For all those people that say that the other place (Maharaja) is better than Mayura/Bollywood Grill, they have clearly not had real Indian food. Coming from someone who grew up eating Indian food at home, Bollywood Grill is the some of the best in the city of Milwaukee. Since they relocated from the east side to downtown, I've never seen this restaurant not have at least half a dozen occupied tables at any time. Is that a coincidence, I would say no. They have also expanded their menu to include a large array of north and south indian dishes all under one roof. The new location also had better lighting, food presentation and service. As far as the food goes, they have by far been the superior choice for Indian food in Milwaukee. Trust the guy who knows his Indian food and go here, you will not regret it. read more

Just stopped in for a quick meal and was blown away by quality, flavor, and very reasonable price. We had chettinad chicken and shrimp tikka masala, which were both amazing. The food here is really good. I'd love to come after a workout and eat all the buffet. We went in for the lunch buffet. One or two of my friends have spent some time in India so like a good Indian restaurant. They all agreed the food was great. I loved it too. The interior was a little hokey (in my opinion). It was themey in that it had what I assume were Bollywood movie posters all over. There was a TV playing Bollywood movies. It just felt weird (I guess I just prefer a painting to a movie poster). I love that this place is so close to our apartment. I could eat lunch there every day. Fantastic selection of fresh and tasty Indian dishes. Lots of vegetarian choices, too. I liked the parsley and mint spicy sauce the best and the mango ice cream the least (too sweet for me--an ice would be better). Service was sweet and attentive. read more

I went here because it was within walking distance of my hotel. What's saving it from 1 star? I'm not sure. They are very nice there. And to be fair, I only had 1 thing. But chicken vindaloo should be a no-brainier. First, I don't want to be asked how spicy I want it. The chef should make it how they make it. Warn the customer it's spicy and move on. Also, so loud! I had to ask them to turn down the music, which they did, but not much. Even the rice was just so-so. read more

Ok, this place is real deal! Great Indian food, fair prices and the service is impeccable! It is wonderful to find a restaurant that is about the whole food experience, the staff here genuinely cares about your Indian dining experience. I've eaten here several times since they have opened, and every time was better then the last. By contrast, it is nothing like the Mahavaja which is a poor Mexican interpretation of Indian cuisine. read more

I wish there is a Zero star option. We went to this place twice before and thought was ok . But this time there appears to be a new person who calls herself the manager. We sat down and got the buffet option. Few minutes after we started eating, we noticed that this lady manager was looking us up especially my two year old who was eating rice and dropped few on the floor. A minute later she came up to us and very rudely said that we have to watch our daughter eating and that this is " too missy" . I couldn't believe what I heard as we never had any one anywhere come up to us and say this. I told her she is just a kid, but she repeated the same thing again and then went away snd disappeared . Me and my husband were very shocked and unhappy. We felt that our child was not welcomed in this place. I was planning to clean after her anyway as I always do. We then ask the waiter if there is any supervisor or someone we can talk to. He came back and said the manager is busy but will come. 15 min went by , no one showed up, we asked again that we need to speak to someone but our request was ignored in the same way with the waiter lying and saying she will come out and talk to us, but she didn't. At the end we asked other waitresses to relay the message that we were very unhappy and we are never coming back. She had no idea and didn't comment, came back with our check , then we paid and left without any one apologizing for this unprofessional behavior or caring about our satisfaction as customers. While the food is very good at Bollywood, it's not quite as good as the Singh's other location (The Taste of India in Brookfield). We like the downtown location and convenient parking. In the three or so times that we've visited, the service has been attentive and they even listen to us when we implore for Level 5 spiciness. I've only visited during dinner hours so unfortunately I can't provide any comments on the lunch buffet. Anyway, the place seems busy with both routine dinners and also banquets so it seems like they'll be around for awhile. Our go-to dishes are Aloo Gobi and Chicken Tikka Masala coupled with Peshwari naan and Samosas. All items are good bordering on very good. read more

Amazing! My friend and I came here for dinner to try a new type of cuisine and we have now found our new favorite spot. The chicken tikka masala and naan bread was great, I especially liked that I was able to select the level of spiciness for my meal. Just what I've been looking for!! Ordered some delivery for lunch and I was happily surprised. We just moved here from the east coast and have been searching Milwaukee for a good Indian spot and we finally found it!! The food was absolutely delicious. Ordered Egg Biryani a while ago. It was GREAT!! Spicy (to taste) as ordered. Put offs: 1) Biryani was packed in Chinese takeout box (large). Never seen another Indian restaurant do this! 2) qty was very low. For $15 (incl of taxes and tip), I'd expect more food. Other than that, totally loved the Biryani and am left with wanting for more! I know children in Africa could've had that extra Biryani but so could I! :( read more

I give this a high rating because the delivery is always prompt and excellent customer service. Wish the main dish portions were a little bigger but this place does an excellent job with the portion for the rice. I do appreciate that everything is labeled gluten free. The chicken tikka Masala has too small chicken pieces and the sauce seems a bit thick from what I'm use too. However, the chicken vindaloo is absolutely yummy! So many times a restaurant will say "really hot" but the food isn't. This dish really IS hot and the chicken and potato pieces are huge and perfectly cooked. Again, I wish take out containers were a little bigger. I haven't eaten dine im at this restaurant so not sure if the plate of food is bigger. The price isn't bad though and more flavor food from some other places I have ordered from. The roti bread is disappointing. Very small, flat and greasy. I'm going to try it again though bc the last few times I've ordered naan it has been extraordinary. All and all my fav place in Milwaukee. I will check out other places but will certainly come back for the huge portion of rice and the amazing chicken vindaloo and will try out some other dishes as well! read more

My husband and I have gone to many Indian restaurants in the San Francisco bay area, so we were excited to discover one that we liked in downtown Milwaukee. I saw some reviews complaining about over-spicing, but we felt otherwise - we love hot and spicy dishes. If you don't like spices, then Indian cuisine may not be right for you. Next time we're going to get it hot instead of medium :) We ordered the roti (whole wheat naan) with our entrees. It was good enough, but it was too much oil on it, and we had to blot the excessive amount of oil with our napkins. Other than that, everything else was excellent - the food, service, and ambiance. The bollywood theme/style is common in Indian restaurants and doesn't bother me one bit. The setting is upscale with cloth napkins and nice dishes. We'll be back to try the lunch buffet and the spicier items. read more

I have to admit that I am fairly new to Indian food. So, that being said I'm not an expert on the most authentic dishes or types of regional Indian cuisine. However, I have been here with those who grew up in India and they say it's some of the best. I usually only go for the lunch buffet, although I've had a good experience for dinner too. The buffet is always well-stocked with different types of dishes...of course keeping the standard ones around. My only small complaint. I went yesterday with a couple friends and there appeared to be quite a large party, as Bollywood does have a couple bigger banquet rooms. There was just only ONE very long line for not only the restaurant, but the banquet rooms to get food from. It was a bit annoying but we committed to staying in line, as opposed to finding another place to eat. The staff did a great job of keeping most of the food stocked due to the sheer volume of people. May I suggest Bollywood open a separate buffet line in the actual rooms themselves as to not dissuade regular patrons from coming in and having to wait so long because of an event? read more

I tried Indian food for the first time, at Bollywood. The lunch buffet was excellent and bountifuI. I really enjoyed the many flavorful dishes, especially, the curry goat, naan, lentils, lemon rice and the mango ice cream! There were three carts of food and I sampled everything. Everything was delicious. The staff was very courteous and we felt very welcomed. The scent of spices and the upscale decor was an added treat. I will definitely dine at Bollywood again. Bollywood Grill is the best Indian restaurant in Milwaukee. The owners and staff are friendly and accommodating. This is now my regular hangout, if you want to experience true Indian delicacies, this place is your answer. I have food restrictions (being a Jain) but the staff here is always ready to cook and customise the dishes as per my requirements with a smile on their face. The place is great, with Bollywood songs being played in the background, you would be transported to India. I am grateful for this restaurant right opposite my apartment. Nice selection and the bread they brought to the table was delicious. The service was good - friendly and professional and not overbearing. Lunch buffet with tax was about $11.60.
