The hood isn't the prettiest but this is a very cool coffee house in many ways. First the menu is very nice and dares to be different in a very good way. We just ran in for some coffee and snacks to go but all of the good looked terrific. Breakfast sandwich, breakfast taco (!), breakfast burrito, chilaquiles, baked goods, etc. We did try the avocado toast which was terrific. The bread was delicious and it came with a HUGE chunk of fresh avocado on it, with red pepper flakes on top. It was great. We also tried a cheddar biscuit and it was fresh and flavorful. No complaints on the iced coffee drinks. The interior decor is super cool. Someone put some serious thought and effort into this place from the tables to the barstools. They also have an absolutely charming patio out back. Metered street parking. Watch those signs so you don't get a ticket. read more

Apparently I chose wisely, the Breakfast Sandwich with Sausage was quite delicious, but I learned coming here after 2pm only leads to disappointment if you want eggs benedict, pancakes, or most other breakfast items. Foreshadowing, my homies mostly chose unwisely, lol. We probably should have come before noon but oh well, I had over an hour drive, on a Sunday, so there's that. Parked on a side street behind the restaurant and boom, there we were, four of us altogether, Bolt first-timers. I needed more coffee and when I got a glimpse of the house-made Nutter Butter I had to get one. The approving nod of the guy taking the orders was reassuring. It's a rich concoction of fresh peanut butter cookies and creamy, doctored peanut butter filling. Pretty rich and filling by itself. Online I liked the looks of the eggs benedict but they were out for the day, which forced me to select a Breakfast Sammie on a house-made English Muffin. Chose sausage and a drip pour coffee. The gf chose Corned Beef Hash, not her original plan, Dora H. went with the Breakfast Pasta and Arthur decided on the daily special: Chiquillas. Coffee is good, fruity medium roast style and the latte was well made too. We all loved the setting inside. The food came up and while the Chiquillas looked impressive, Arthur soon discovered that the chips were very stale. He's a picky eater but that's a decisive criticism. Dora liked her pasta dish, so 50-50 for them. The gf's Corned Beef was on the dry side, I sampled a bit. Her eggs were cooked perfectly to order, but the Brussel Sprouts were a bit bland. Conversely, I thoroughly enjoyed the English Muffin, very fresh and perfect for the melted cheese and sausage. Put some Chulula hotsauce on there and voila! It was very hot so I proceeded with caution. Verdict: the 50-50 ratio of success to disappointment doesn't bode well for another visit. While other tables' food, especially sandwiches, looked pretty good from a distance, I doubt that we venture here as a destination again. If I lived close by I'd probably get periodic breakfast or lunch sandwiches. Overall, 3.55/5, enough to round up to 4-stars, but just barely. read more

On the outskirts of Thai town, and south of Franklin Blvd. You'll see a little street sprinkled with small eateries and store fronts. Amongst them you will find Bolt. It's a handsome building, with beautiful marquee letters that display the cafes name. The interior is just as nice. The rustic industrial feel, with tall ceilings gives it a wide open space feel. Loved the interior design and appreciated the cute little outdoor patio in the back. They had a variety of breakfast foods and lunch options on their menu. I ordered the breakfast pasta, and my husband ordered the chilaquiles. Both looked promising and we were very excited to try the food. My breakfast pasta was pretty good. Reminded me of an omelette with bits of pasta mixed in. The bits of bacon and sausage were delicious. Though it didn't look it, it was actually quite filling. The chilaquiles (which were on the special menu) on the other hand were absolutely horrible. Not at all what a chilaquiles is supposed to be. Horrible chips that rivaled those from a gas station. It lacked the beans, the flavor, and everything about it tasted like it came out of a can. Seems the dishes here are a bit of a gamble, so pick wisely. It's a beautiful place to spread out, study or meet up for some pastries or coffee. But not quite sure the food is up to par just yet. read more

Cold Brew: 5 stars great cold brew coffee. What more can I say? Service is 5 stars, and I felt a very warm and welcoming vibe before I even stepped foot in this place. The folks at Bolt sell more than just coffee. Breakfast, wine and pastries are also available for those who like. I would come back for the coffee alone, but I am intrigued to try some of their food items as well. We were staying nearby Bolt and were extremely lucky to find this place for breakfast. What a fantastic place. It is very casual. You place your order at the door and then grab a table. Make sure to check out the baked goods. There is a wide selection. I just had tea, but the people I was with had coffee and really liked it. For food, I started with the EAHO breakfast (three eggs--which I had over easy, sausage patty, hashbrowns, and toast. It was outstanding. I loved the potatoes and the sourdough toast. My partner had the avocado toast and loved that also. Fortunately, I saved room for a chocolate cookie to eat later. This was really good also. This is in my hood. I've passed it many times and today decided to do some work from there for a bit. I had a drip coffee and a banana chocolate chip muffin. Both were pretty good. The gentleman and lady working front of house are very nice. I like that it's a quiet place (there is music but it's very low). Definitely great if you need to concentrate. Bread/biscuit on the sandwich was great, but overall sandwich was lacking some flavor. Didn't even taste salt and pepper - felt like a little seasoning or aioli on this would go a long way. Threw some hot sauce on it and it was better, not the best bfast sandwich I've ever had but I swear w some seasoning or aioli it could rival. OMG I'm so behind on my coffee reviews. But not to worry. I very distinctly remember Bolt Coffee coz this was the first in store purchase I made this year, after almost a year of eating my own cooking and drinking my own brews. Of course I'll need to revisit this place later to see if it's as good as I remembered but I'm pretty confident saying this place has good coffee and food. I mean. That bacon cheese Biscuit is fluffy but doesn't crumble. That shows freshness right there. The OJ is Fresh squeezed. The Iced tea was brewed first. So good. Ordered their Hot Latte and it was awesome! Ordered their Cortado and it was even better! Their Avocado Toast was kinda pricey but there were two of them and they weren't stingy with the avocado. Friendly service right when I walked in the door. The special smoked brisket breakfast tacos with hatch green chili was fantastic and not overfilling. They also had strong dark roast coffee on drip, which was delicious. The vibe is a coffee shop filled with people on laptops and light table chatter. Been coming to Bolt for coffee and breakfast the better part of a couple weeks now and really enjoy it. It's a beautiful space w high ceilings and the ability to feel safe inside as folks are pretty spread out. There is a beautiful outdoor garden I plan on using more after the cold and rains abate... To start, I'm fussy about coffee and Bolt's is a good one, medium brewed and always piping hot, which I really appreciate. At $3 for a large, it's fair and always does the job. The food here is both familiar and rather curated simultaneously. They do splendid Mexican staples with a generous brisket breakfast taco made with their homemade hatch chilis salsa hot sauce. I like this better than the breakfast burrito I had which, while fine, felt rather poorly assembled. Also, LA's very best is just down the road at Cafe Los Feliz, so there is always that memory nipping at the neocortex when I try breakfast burritos... I recently had two of the better dishes here: the "Bolt Bowl," and the avocado toast. Loved the bowl, a low carb creation of sautéed veggies (broccolini, onions, grape tomatoes etc), two types of ground Italian sausage - spicy and sweet - with a nice duvet covering of a pair of perfectly over easy eggs-- Yummm! I hit it w pepper and Cholula Hot Sauce and it's excellent. Would be even better with red or green Tabasco but they don't carry those despite my daily grumbling for them. The avocado toast is excellent here too, well assembled on toasted sourdough bread, sprinkled over with quality salt, chili flakes, and a touch of olive oil. For an extra couple bucks I added on the over easy egg which really added something. That all said, it's avo toast w egg and at $16 before tax and tip? It's overpriced. Should be the same cost as their venerable breakfast sandwich, a play on the egg McMuffin with what one must assume are healthier ingredients at $10.65. As good as the coffee and grub are (and don't let my advice to Bolt here dissuade you off the otherwise high recommendation!), I can honestly say Bolt's staff may be the main reason to come by here. Either they hire only the coolest and happiest of players for behind the register and counter, or I want whomever trains them all to guest-educate at every coffee shop in LA-- this is a fun group of good looking and smart young people. I've gotten to know one a little - Joy - a comedian I'm betting is great just off our interactions. Winding this down with recommendation for the house made cookies. They make some truly incredible cookies. I like the sea salt covered chocolate chip and the chocolate with peanut butter center but I friggin' dream about their almond cookie with a dollop of jelly in the center: it's not that cloying marzipan biscuit you might be conjuring up in your head but rather a crumbly revelation made of almond flour, I suspect. Seriously, dreamt about it already... As this is a "review" I'll offer one real bit of advice that I feel would help Bolt out: They have the most lovely outdoor garden space. Covid safe and beautiful, like a gem culled from similar coffee houses in Brooklyn and elsewhere. They should let it be QUIET. Free of music, which can be as alienating to as many customers as it is enjoyable for others. The inside plays the same music as outdoors for the majority of patrons but I would love the beautiful silence out there to read and write and work. I know others would too... Oh, and get a "slow-door-closer" to silence that back door from slamming all day long. It's soooo disruptive to everyone working inside! So get to Bolt. It's a wonderful EaHo coffee shop that brings up the 'hood some. *** PS if you are blessed by your higher power, you may get the rare sighting of the pet rat, "Ratsputin," a healthy boy that flashes about in the rafters on occasion. I've wanted to find a local coffee shop I can read at and have breakfast at since I moved to Hollywood. Last month I walked by and decided to stop in and I've been coming every week since. Bolt is located on Hollywood Blvd and has plenty of tables and booths to work and hang out in. They also have a cute back patio with a plant canopy for those who want a taste of nature in the city. On Saturday you can be sure to have some great music playing (don't worry not at a super loud level) and maybe even a dog or two out front. It has a cozy casual vibe with the energy of a place that's here for locals and the lucky tourists who find it. Now to the food since that's what's really important. I get a breakfast sandwich on their english muffin with bacon. Fucking phenomenal. The best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. First off the English muffin is made IN HOUSE. so if that doesn't make you order it I don't know what will. Second the egg is perfectly cooked with the yolk and bit runny. The bacon is thick and crispy and they use sharp white cheddar to pull it all in. It's so balanced and makes me say "oh yum" every time. It's also pipping hot which I don't usually find in breakfast sandwiches what are made to order. I've also tried it with turkey bacon and it's just as good. If you're in the mood for a little treat you can't go wrong with their cookies or scones. I love the chocolate chip cookie or the oatmeal cookie. They also do cream pies which are the perfect dessert. Lastly the coffee is excellent and my iced or hot vanilla latte never fails. Some fun extras is they have compostable straws(not paper), bathroom, free water, WiFi, a beverage fridge with fun bevvys, and the staff is really stellar. Makes me feel at home every time I come. When walking in your greeted with a nice atmosphere, loved the industrial look here. You have options of indoor and outdoor seating. I recommend the back patio as it's pretty nice and relaxing back there. Now to the food. We ordered the breakfast sandwich with their homemade English muffin and the breakfast burrito. The breakfast sandwich was good it had nice flavor but the bacon was not crispy like I usually would go for. The sandwich also came out pipping hot, probably the hottest temp wise I've had but better than getting it cold. The breakfast burrito was nice however fell apart pretty easy, nice spicy flavor. Overall food was good, I would try some of the other items when we come back. The wait was a tad long to get the food (25 to 30 mins) after we ordered, we weren't in a hurry. After a night out with a massive hangover I rolled over in my bed and all I could think was breakfast burrito.. I was looking through Yelp and found Bolt.. the pictures sold me. Upon arrival I was thoroughly impressed with the vibe. It felt very downtown Seattle warehouse. If that makes sense. It kinda felt like a garage turned coffee shop. I was into it. I ordered a breakfast burrito with sausage. I am now writing this holding my second breakfast burrito. This time I added brisket. (Yes you should try it) The pastries look amazing and I honestly haven't had the coffee yet but I have no doubt it's just as good. Used to be a fan of this cafe. The food was pretty good and the staff was always nice. And then Sunday happened...my friend and I were eating here and something fell from the second floor onto the empty booth across from us. It scared the crap out of me. To my horror, I realized it was a scraggly, grey rat. I watched in shock as it scurried around the table a few feet from us. I was already halfway through my meatloaf sandwich. The table that rat was dancing around on was the one we'd previously been sitting at until my friend suggested we sit somewhere sunnier. A twist of fate kept that rat from landing right on our food. The rat may be a bit difficult to see in this photo since it is the same color as the decor, but I assure you, it is there. This is Hubbys favorite breakfast spot he loves the Bolt Benedict it's cooked perfectly and the potatoes that come with it is full of flavor I ordered the Bolt breakfast burrito I had it with salsa it was really good and filing. We had the food to go I'm sure it would be even tastier if we dined in. The lemonade was thirsty quenching I recommend getting that while you wait for your food to arrive. I'm updating my review from the last time I was here. This place smacks! The Turkey Rubian is so flavorful. Turkey is never dry and is juicy. The rye bread it comes in is toasted perfectly, and the sauce is homemade. The BLTA is bomb too! They also make a great Arnold Palmer. The best thing here though is their baked goods. The Nutter Butter is the best and truly a MUST HAVE! Another thing I love about this place is they literally sit and stamp every coffee cup by hand you drink from; which is their signature Bolt symbol. Just gives it a personal touch. The service is always lovely. They have a great staff here and great vibes. The staff members are always smiling and have great energy. This is also a great place to come with your laptop. I've been here a few times because it's a nice spot to meet up with folks over a cup of whatever, they have a lot of options, which is great for someone who is not a fan of coffee. They carry a couple of different varieties of Kombucha and their iced tea is pretty good. Service on the whole is ok. My first visit the person behind the counter seemed kind of indifferent but not unfriendly. The other times it was fine, friendly, got into a conversation about their amazing cheddar bacon biscuits (they go fast, so if you see them there get them.) I had their breakfast burrito with bacon and for 8 bucks it's not bad. There are definitely some places that could charge you more for a similar sized burrito but it was just ok. The potatoes really just overpowered everything-there were big chunks but were kind of plain. I still want to try their other menu items because they looked really good but the burrito was just kind of ok. Don't slack on the baked goods though. read more

I stopped in while having a car washed. I am so thrilled that I did. The vanilla latte I ordered was perfectly made. The roast they use is a nice chocolatey blend. They also have half orders of the avocado toast! This was perfect for me as I would not have been able to eat a full order and didn't want to take food to go. This is one of my fav coffee shops around the hood. Employees are nice and friendly. Coffees are not the best but okay. They have great cookies and rosemary chicken sandwiches are so good. But some of the item prices are so high. I paid almost $14 for a 2 piece of avocado toast. I'm not expecting to be $5 but $14 is wild for an avocado toast. Inside of the place is mellow and music is not too loud. Back padio is super cute but employees are not good at keeping it clean. Tables are full of dust for most of the time. Because there are some trees etc. Owner and managers should be aware they have to make sure tables and chairs are clean enough to sit. read more
