Fresh healthy new spot in San Jose that's somewhere between sweetgreen and chipotle but better quality than both! Such yummy ingredients for a fun build your own bowl experience with a good space to sit and chat. I got a chicken teriyaki bowl with a base of kale salad and sweet potato noodles. Though the portions were generous, the amount of noodles was a little overpowering, so next time I will probably go for either a green base or just rice. The vegetables were extremely well cooked, and next time I will probably opt to get more than just one.the sauces were also great. We were looking for a healthy quick lunch to grab before heading to an A's game from SJ to Oakland and found this place on yelp. I am so glad more places like this are popping up with fresh and wholesome options in a quick dining setting. Did I also mention it is in the same shopping center as Home Goods? Talk about power fuel for shopping! We each got a large bowl and it was enough for two adults and one toddler. I ordered the lemon chicken bowl after trying the teriyaki and my toddler preferred the former. I had it with noodles & rice, potatoes, and paid extra for the tuscan zucchini. I absolutely loved the noodles and how light but flavorful they were. My son loved the chicken, rice and potatoes. I am obsessed with the tuscan zucchini (one of my fave veggies) and now want to recreate them at home. I got the spicy mayo on the side but I honestly didn't even need it. The food help up well a few hours later. My only feedback is that I wish they had brown rice as an option instead of black rice. That would be a much healthier option. In a feat of being spaced out, I managed to leave my card in the register at checkout and only discovered its absence when I was at the grocery store also at checkout. Little did I know that Jason, the friendly human who had made my Lunch Bowl, upon discovering my card had yelped a message to me which entailed creating a new account, and when I walked into the shop it was in the register all wrapped up in a like the receipt with the date and time I had abandoned it. Came here for lunch with a friend and so thankful it wasn't super-packed. As some others have said in their reviews, it's like a Chipotle-style setup where you can build your own bowl (w/ limits) or get one of their signature bowls. The food is here more Asian-skewing, but I can't say full Asian or even Asian fusion, really. They have things like Spicy Thai shrimp and Miso tofu which are Asian origins but then Barbacoa Beef, Mediterreanean tomatoes, and pesto which are not. I ordered a regular-sized Spicy Thai Shrimp bowl which came with a recommended creamy garlic sauce. With a regular bowl, you get 1 protein, 2 bases, and 2 veg sides. At first, I was kind of bummed at the idea of the limit on the veggie sides since I had Chipotle in my head from reading other reviews, and they load the sides and toppings on with as much as you want but ultimately, it made sense for this place because it's a decent amount of food and really, the two gives balance to the bowl flavor. All of the ingredients in my Spicy Shrimp bowl were very fresh. I got a very generous portion of shrimp which was great because it's easy for a food business to skimp on protein and load up on bases. The sweet potato noodles are more or less like japchae Korean noodles, which I happen to love. The spinach and almond salad was a nice, crisp, fresh element to the texture of the bowl, but I only found one sliver of almond in my bowl, so it was more like just a base of spinach. There was the option to get sauce on the bowl or on the side - I didn't want to create extra waste so I just got it topped on my bowl. It was nice and garlicky, VERY creamy, and a good compliment to the flavor of the dish. I had the taste of garlic in my mouth for hours after the meal I do, however, wish I had asked for a little less sauce as it was much thicker and creamier than I expected. Note to self for next time. The spice of the Spicy Thai shrimp portion of the bowl was pretty mild. I may just try topping the bowl with the spicy Thai sauce next time to see if it kicks things up a notch. All in all, it was clean, fresh, with great options to get a healthy meal. I would totally come back and hope this business stays open long enough for me to make another visit. Some of these spots seem to be a revolving door for restaurants, but I'm crossing my fingers that this one does well and finds a nice long-term home here. read more

The staff were so nice and the dining area is really clean and modern. Great location and huge parking lot. We got large bowls which consisted of 2 bases, 2 veggies, 2 proteins, and 2 sauces per bowl. I love that we're able to customize our whole bowls! Everything was good and tasted clean without being flavorless. Two things that I would have liked better: - If the rosemary leaves weren't on the potatoes. When eating potatoes, I expect a soft experience. The rosemary leaves were kinda hard and got stuck in my teeth. I think cooking the potatoes with sprigs of rosemary instead of the leaves themselves would help a lot. - Less sauce. The sauces overpowered the already flavorful foods and made the bowls too salty. I did ask for less sauce but I think the staff didn't hear. Even my partner who LOVES saucy foods said it was a bit much. The portion size was very generous today (with my bowl getting full scoops of the protein and veggies today), and I found the price to be more fair when I brought my own drink. Tried this place out with a friend for the first time today and while the food was good, the service made the experience somewhat distasteful. We arrived a little before 12pm and were the first ones in - the ambiance was empty and not busy. As I looked at the menu, I was disappointed at the lack of detailed ingredients for each menu item. I'm dairy-free - so I ultimately wanted to know if their proteins, veggies and sauces were made with butter. When I asked the employee assisting with my bowl, they responded with uncertainty when it came to knowing if the salmon was made with dairy/butter (tbh, it concerned me that this wasn't clarified). I felt rushed and almost as if I was inconveniencing the employee with my questions around each item and the ingredients, but if I'm paying for it, I have to make sure I can eat it. When it came down to the sauces, another employee was assisting me and I asked for further clarification on if the sauces had dairy; the initial employee assisting me interjected and said "all the sauces are dairy free" - I found that incredibly hard to believe considering one of the sauces was labeled as "creamy garlic" & decided to go with the pesto.. unsure if there was cheese in it. *edit: just noticed the owner confirmed on this page that all the sauces are dairy free* What I ended up ordering was okay - Not sure if I'd return but if I do, I'd probably opt to have the sauce on the side because drenching it over the bowl was too much. Just my second time around to trying this place but still very impressed with my experience here. From ordering, to the service and taste - this place is a solid place to eat at. Walking in the space is well lit, super clean and pretty well spaced out with the amount of seating they have going on. The space is bright and not stuffy at all like other lit places I've been to and I enjoy that very much. Service is quick! It's pretty similar to ordering at a poké place or chipotle so nothing really crazy going on. The workers seem really chill and they are great at making recommendations if you're not sure of what to try. Even when it was busy with lunch rush I've observed their team swiftly serve without any kind of hold up. The flavors are flavoring. Everything I've tried so far from this place was seasoned and cooked very well. Like every protein option didn't seem to let me down in anyway. I would say that my favorites so far has to be the Spicy Thai shrimp - bursting with flavor and the right texture for shrimp. They also give a good amount to you! Me and my friends felt satisfied and filled with our bowls and didn't leave us feeling hefty and lethargic. Anyways I'll stop before this becomes too long of a review. I've been recommending this place to my family for awhile now. It has a nice selection of options and customization. The environment and food itself is very clean and I always leave feeling healthy and fulfilled. It was my sister's first time today and the service we received from the moment we walked through the door was more than welcoming. Jason had incredible patience as he tended to our indecisiveness, specifically my sister's, who usually doesn't like to speak up, but felt comfortable enough to express her preferences. He made a great first impression from beginning to end, offering recommendations and giving us samples so we felt confident in our choices. Boltiful is an awesome choice for a healthy & filling lunch! I've been here a few times with my partner and we always enjoy how fresh and flavorful the food is here. I love their wild/purple rice, salad blends, lemon chicken, chimichurri tomatoes, and roasted broccoli! All their sauces are also to die for. Their brussel sprouts are a bit too salty for me, but I love their other veggie options. I always have leftovers when I eat at Boltiful because they give you so much food and it makes for a perfect dinner or midday munch. The service here is quick and friendly. There is some indoor & outdoor seating here, but we typically pick this up and bring it back to the office to eat. The store is clean, welcoming, and located in a pretty popular plaza - it's one of the better lunch spots in the area. Pro tip: they have stamp cards, so make sure to get one and get yourself a free meal! More lunch spots need to follow Boltiful's steps. read more

When I chose Barbacoa as one of my options, it was almost out so he advised me that a fresh batch would be ready shortly. He was super patient and friendly during my whole experience. Since I took the food to-go, I was so hungry and couldn't wait to dig in. I loved the mixing a few of the different sauces together, specifically the creamy garlic, herb pesto, and sweet chili mayo. I got the large bowl with chopped kale salad, Asian sweet potato noodles, balsamic glazed mushrooms, harvest brussel sprouts, the chicken teriyaki & barbacoa pickled red onions, & chimichurri tomatoes. My partner got the large bowl with jasmine rice, chopped kale salad, harvest brussel sprouts, garlic broccoli, red pickled onion, chimichurri tomatoes, the barbacoa & spicy Thai shrimp. I've been going here occasionally since the grand opening months ago, and would say my review would go from a 5 to 3 star now. While I appreciate the healthier / Asian Chipotle vibe and clean ambiance, I feel like their kindness and portions to price ratio has gone down a lot. Each visit lately in recent weeks there is something that turns me off a bit such as the workers lack of friendliness compared to the beginning of the grand opening. I wish for the price that more proteins and options to mix/match were available such as the veggies and toppings, such as perhaps half a scoop of two different veggie options for the regular size and that more of the toppings could be free and included or just at least a small scoop. It can be hard deciding between a normal veggie, potato, or mushroom when it all looks good. Many things just add up easily here that you want to have. I'd say my latest irk is the sauces, previously staff were very nice letting me have 2-3 and often on the side but today someone helping me said 1 only. While I understand food and everything costs, just hearing that was upsetting compared to the times I was able to get more before and maybe can at least offer a smaller pour of various sauces if a customer wants more. I likely won't be coming here as often anymore due to all of the above. read more

My husband looked up a yummy new lunch spot near our church and we settled on Boltiful! What a great find!!!! The food was super delicious and their drinks are yummy too! My husband and I weren't sure which protein to choose for our daughter's bowl and they offered to let us sample some. In the end, we got the tofu because she had a giant smile after eating it! The rice, the sweet potato noodles, chicken, tofu, potatoes, broccoli... everything was so good!!! I had no expectations of Boltiful Fresh Kitchen. I saw it pop up recently at one of the local strip mall where I get my nails done. While wrapping up a long nail appointment that went well into my lunch time, I placed an online order with Boltiful Fresh Kitchen. I picked up my bowl but decided to eat inside. A Staff member greeted me and helped grab my order. I got a regular-sized build-your-own bowl of creamy garlic sauce over lemon pepper chicken with sides of harvest brussels sprouts, spinach almond salad, and Asian sweet potato noodles. Although the flavors of each component were very unique (i.e. the creamy garlic against the ginger of the Asian sweet potato noodles against the balsamic flavor of the brussels sprouts), they all somehow tasted fine together. The sweet potato noodles, which tasted like Korean japchae, were especially amazing, so I look forward to repeating that side in future orders. I was highly satisfied with my bowl, and I thought it was such a good value ($13.99) for fresh, quality ingredients. I didn't have to break the bank unlike other health-food conscious restaurants. read more
