When I heard Bomb Bomb was being purchased by Baldino, my husband and I knew we needed to add it to the lineup of Italian restaurants to frequent in Philly. Upon entry, you're immediately greeted by checkered dining tables, folks adorned with a big ol' smiles and plastic crab bibs, a bustling bar and the aroma of delicious Italian food making its way from the kitchen to patrons tables. Bomb Bomb offers uniquely "seafood-centered" southern Italian fare and boy if this is your thing (like it is mine), you're in for a treat! Something to note, the $62/pp price fixe allows you to order a certain amount of dishes from the dining menu, but don't just limit yourself to those options! The bar menu has some great heavy hitters you'll want to give a try! Hands down, some of the show stoppers came directly from the bar menu. You can't go wrong with hot, mouth watering, fried mozzarella thats stringy pull takes you from one end of the dining room to the next. After decimating the mozzarella, the real special bite comes from the steaming roasted pork sandwich served with a side of its very own au jus. Flavorful, juicy just like a warm hug. Some highlights from the dining menu, I just wouldn't pass up on reordering in the future: the whole Dungeness Crab + Lobster Francese. Although requiring some work, the Dungeness Crab hits it out of the park on flavor + natural butteriness. Recently dined here with family. We did the $62 per person dinner. Every course was delicious but the serving sizes for a party of 4 were confusing. How do 4 people get one lobster tail to split, 2 small crab cakes, and 3 shrimp? Other options were reasonably portioned but they offered little description on their website prior to dining and getting in touch with them is difficult. I enjoyed what I ate but left hungry. It's a matter of personal taste. I went to The Bomb Bomb with a party of 6. We go out often together, and all of our families are of Italian Heritage. My 3 star rating is a result of the average from everyone's opinion of our meals. Personally, I didn't care for the red sauce they use with the mussels. It had a strong red wine taste, and it wasn't thick. I prefer Marinara with a strong tomato and garlic taste. The Crab Gravy was "okay." I finished it, but it could have used more crab meat. Others in my party had Ravioli and gnocchi that they found enjoyable. I can definitely understand why this is a favorite place for the people who grew up with The Bomb Bomb in their neighborhood. I'm sure if I had grown up going here, I'd be accustomed to how they prepare their food. To be fair, they boast about how good their BBQ ribs are, but none of us tried them, so maybe they are what most people order. They show a different menu online and hit you with the overpriced prefixed menu after you sit down, saying the other menu is only available at the 10-seat bar, when you ask the server about it, they don't give you a direct answer instead they give you an attitude they think they are being authentic south Phila but what they are is rude and a disgraceful to our Italian heritage. This place is a great happy hour. Honestly, the breaded chicken wing on the menu was something a local supermarket sells at the hot deli section so I would not get. I really wanted to try to pork wings but they were out. We also got the crab spaghetti which was very good. I really want to try their ribs the next time though. The calamari was slightly burnt and the side dipping sauce (not marinara) was in a very small container and was still partially frozen. I have had worse, but it certainly was not good. The linguini and clams was a nice sized portion with plenty of clams (no shells). It was, however, soaking in oil. Soaking. It was strange and ruined the dish. If you're looking for a good place to order delivery from, this place is great! The food is packaged so well and SO SMART, so it arrives at your door mess-free and the exact right temperature! Finally got to check out Bomb Bomb, this place was recommended by my boyfriend's family and we'd never been. Best way I can describe it is if EPCOT had a South Philly attraction, this would be it. This is an Italian bar/restaurant frozen in the 90s with great food and service. We ordered the chicken parm, linguine and clams, and the icebox cake. There was also bread and butter plus olive oil on the house. Everything was delicious, and I love that the cake came in a beer glass with 2 long spoons. Ok, I found this place on Yelp. This was my third choice. Because I was craving ribs. The first rib place wasn't open. Then, second place sold out ribs and everything. At this point, I was upset because I wanted some ribs on a nice day. I just want a ribs sandwich. I drove from Germantown Ave to the first place, was on Erie Ave, and second place was around Snyder Ave. And then I found this place Boom Boom. It was a bar/ restaurant located on the corner of a block. My gps got me their with no problem. I parked my car and walked down the street. When it and there was no one at the front,welcome you in the place had to rooms. The bar area and the back where the restaurant part was plus the kitchen and bathrooms. It was dark and dreary. Don't get me wrong, just a little from the two or four windows. and the front door was open with a little light coming in. So when I walked in, as I stated earlier, no one was at the front. I walked at this open, and it was people eating lunch. They looked at me, and I looked back. I they were wondering why this black lady looking at us. So I went back to the front and had a set at the bar. Waited for about 10 to 15 minutes, so I looked at the appt on Yelp and called the restaurant, and a lady answered and asked, "Can she help me I answered yes I'm in the font and would like to order. She told me that she would be right up here to take my oder she was helping out. Ok, she came out and asked me what I wanted. I told her to place an order this was fust time here. Then she handed me a menu and like she was in a rush so I called my husband to she if he want any thing. So, as I was on the phone and looking over the menu, she said out of nowhere, so what are you ordering. Then she looked up and saw that I was on the phone. I told her to give me a minute. So, while I was waiting, a guy came in he must have been a regular. They started talking about something, and then she asked if he wanted his usual. And all you heard in the was the yard door open and close and the staff must have been smoking. So then another worker came into the restaurant she started talking to her she put her stuff down and made her fresh cup of coffee but she wanted tea but put creamer in her cup. So she had to drink the coffee and it was smelling good. Oh, I forgot they been cooking the ribs outside because of the door. But my food wasn't that hot. The coffee had a smell but you couldn't smell the food. Then three people came in to eat, and the lady asked, "Do you have reservation. and the lady behind the bar said you can seat yourself. I'm still drinking my drink and looking around and waiting on our food. Then, a couple came in and sat at the bar. What really to the cake was when the lady behind told them it was Happy Hour and told them a list of items that what was for happy hour. Know that was something and rude. So our food finally came and she gave me the bill and it was $40.00 or more so I opened the food to check it my rib platter looked ok and my husband sandwich had a tomato on it I told her I said no tomatoes and told no I didn't . So guesset what I won't be going back to the Boom Boom Restaurant. Believe this was the spot, and I was tried and hungry. When you come into the restaurant, everyone should be treated the same. I didn't have a happy hour drink. I pay eight dollars. So let me finish telling you all my long story finally got ed my hands. Putting up my item that was purchased from the reading terminal. Proceeded to open the food, and it was cold, so I had to warm it up. First, for my husband, then mine. So the ribs were not good at all. I was so made that if you look at the Yelp page, the ribs look good. But taste was not their for me. You know whe you what so bad and then it doesn't turn out right well that was these ribs and the coleslaw tasted like it had a lot of vinegar in it no thank you and fries was ok. As soon as you walk inside this palace looks like a gem. They're playing 80's pop. Little dive bar feels. I instantly felt in my heart this was a win. We sat down and the bar tender Lisa was very sweet. Not to mention she made some great drinks. Little did we know this would be the only great think about this place. We decided to stop in and try this place out before a show at the Wells Fargo center. Reservations were easy and the place was close enough for a quick cab ride. The restaurant is small and cozy. We ordered bruschetta as an appetizer and it was very tasty. Loved it. My friend ordered the spaghetti and crabcake. It's not a usual combination but she said it was very good. I ordered the BBQ chicken and rib special. I was expecting chicken breast and ribs... It was dark meat. I was disappointed but when I read the menu it never said breast so my fault. I just never had dark meat and ribs. I will need to read closer and ask next time. We had chocolate cake. It was huge and tasty. Will I be back? probably. read more

Stopped in here after reading rib reviews and I gotta tell you I was skeptical, but I left with an appreciation for this place! Small bar area, at first I thought I walked into someone's living room. Definitely South Philly through and through inside from the convo's the customers and the bartender. All very nice people! Now to the important part, the half rack of ribs were fall off the bone, great meat to bone ratio, charred just right and the house BBQ sauce was perfect with the meat. Friendliest place on Earth! The food was good and reasonably priced but the locals are fantastic! We had the mussels and they were delicious along with fall off the bone BBQ baby back ribs and chicken parmigiana. Simple, good and satisfying. I had prize-winning ribs, which were indeed very tasty, falling-off-the-bone tender, and very nicely flavored - neither too spicy nor too bland, neither too sweet nor too acid. The crowd was very compatible with us - we did not feel like the oldest people in the room (nor the youngest), the waitress was homey and cute in her own way, and even the specially brewed beer was quite to our taste. The Eggplant Bruschetta starter was toasted crisply and flavored fully, Linda enjoyed her somewhat spicy crab cakes, and we saved enough for lunch (or possibly dinner) today, leaving room for dessert, which turned out to be a blueberry cobbler that tasted a little like bread pudding. Came here for dinner with my best friend before heading out for a comedy show. Original plan was for a place we usually go to, but he said he had heard some great things about Bomb Bomb and when I called from the road, staff said come on in! I wasn't feeling for BBQ, but they also have some bangin' seafood and Italian dishes. We started off with some roasted red peppers, sharp provolone and prosciutto. This was gone very quickly because it was so good. For entrees, my friend had the crab gravy with spaghetti, and I went with the Chioppino - Scallops, shrimp, mussels, and clams. I made a switch on the gravy asking for the Fra Diavolo sauce. WOW! I think for the first time ever a Fra Diavolo gravy was actually spicy to bring some real sweat down my forehead and clear out my sinuses. This, my Yelp friends, is actually a good thing. Lots of seafood, and super tasty. My only small complaint would be how the gravy was not thick at all. My friend's meal was also gone quickly as it tasted so good. We had a couple of beers and wine, and an awesome time. I also have to give props to whomever the hostess was. She was just like everyone's mom in the place and you could tell that she really enjoyed her job interacting with the customers. After watching me try to eat the pasta, she ended up bring me a seafood plastic bib and insisting I put it on. Actually, she put it on for me and sweet talked her way through it. This place is kind of a hoot. It is a classic South Philly neighborhood bar/restaurant. Right out of central casting! Interesting mish mash of menu items; ribs, muscles, chicken parm., etc. That keeps it interesting. Had the chicken parm for take out. It was solidly good. My boyfriend told me about Bomb Bomb in late February and we've already been back 3 times. I'm not really one to go back to the same place multiple times, especially within the same month. Every time we've gone has been better and better. We've only gotten the same two things. I get the full rack of ribs and he gets the chicken parm. We share. The ribs slide off the bone and melt in your mouth. The sauce (both the gravy and the bbq) is incredible. I wish I had pictures but without fail, I forget all about digital technology when that rack comes out ;) The ribs come with thicc fries which are perfect for soaking up any remaining sauce because you don't want that to go to waste. And you shouldn't. Janet is so kind, warm and inviting. I want to give her a hug every time I see her. She's the Italian auntie I never had. She also expresses so much concern for me when I order the full rack of ribs. I'm 4'11 and the rack is longer than my torso, I understand. It's nice to have someone who cares. We go on weeknights so it's never really crowded. We've never had to wait for a table. I hear that weekends get pretty crowded so definitely make a reservation.
