NO WAY BOMBAY! DO NOT GO HERE! GO ANYWHERE ELSE. If you ignore this warning and go anyway MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR CHECK! We had some friends in town. They love Indian food. We usually go to Flavor Of India on Sunset Blvd but we thought let's try somewhere new. We'll call this first mistake. When we arrived the place was almost empty. Not a good sign, but hey we're here, so let's do this. That was mistake #2. I don't mind paying high prices for good food... but I DO MIND BEING OVER CHARGED, being CHARGED TWICE for some dishes and having a 20% SERVICE CHARGE added to my bill. WHICH BY THE WAY - IS AGAINST THE LAW! -- Restaurants will no longer be able to charge service fees and will instead have to fold the charges into its menu prices. Starting July 1, 2024 restaurants in California will no longer be able to add service charges or other surcharges to your check. -- (don't believe me? Google it) Hey if you have $24 dollars to spend on 2 bottles of Ginger Beer then knock yourself out. Did you catch that? 2 bottles of ginger beer. 24 dollars. That's 12 dollars each. I could get a great bottle of wine for $24 bucks -- and then get drunk enough not to see I'm being OVER CHARGED by the fine folks at BOMBAY PALACE. - You may be asking "But hey, how was the food?" Answer: It was OK, it was good but far from great and even further from anything special. Also be aware THEY USE MSG. - Yes you do. Ok so the bill comes and it's like $260 dollars. Yep - 4 people - two hundred and sixty dollars. And that's before the tip. So as I'm getting ready to add a tip - which would bring it to around $312.00 - my son says "Wow that seems like a lot. Can I see the bill?" - And that's when it all came tumbling down. Needless to say, after seeing the service charge, i did not add an additional tip. So what have we learned? We should have just gone to Flavor Of India. They're the best. If you're still reading this - I'm begging you to not go to BOMBAY PALCE. You will regret it if you do. And check out the other reviews on here as well. I'm not the only one that feels this way. Also when we brought our concerns to the owner, you could tell he was a bit put off when we asked about the additional charges on our bill. Oh, by the way... ambiance? Pretty nice.

I love this place. The ambiance is really beautiful. The food was so tasty and the service was friendly and prompt. We came before the dinner rush since we had a movie to see at the Academy at 6. I wish we could have stayed til it was dark and had seen the walls all lit up. Next time for sure! I had the channa masala and vegetable samosas and it was all so flavorful and delicious! The portions are perfect!

    Beautiful ambiance

Though I've been here just once (for lunch), I am already plotting my return. I arrived a bit earlier than my friends and in so doing, accidentally avoided the start of the lunch rush. As there are not many tables here, I feel I lucked out snagging a table for us. As I took at the cozy, classy splendor of a still very new establishment, the relaxed but polished decor was both inspiring and low-key. I had an excellent espresso while I got my wish: extended time to take in the menus. The drink menu, and the food menu. It's my favorite when that part of the cafe/restaurant experience delivers tons of time to get really acquainted with a place. Our friendly, helpful server asked the questions I had about the menu, and the time he didn't know he went and found out. Breakfast is served all day, by the way. My friend started with the sausage rolls (accompanied by the freshly made ketchup). Delicious and great for a table starter or a fairly light entree. Good crunch, and moist inside with plenty of seasoning. My entree was the black forest ham quiche. It was indicative of everything else here: the right size, the right mix of produce, protein, fluffy, cheesy egg inside, and anchored by a subtle but first-rate crust. It's served with a fennel based salad, a crisp and a great complement. We were happy and satisfied sooner than expected (alas, Le Moules must wait). Still, I could not resist a little dessert and ordered the Pain Aux Apricot. It was fantastic, something out of a cafe in Paris. Crisp and light and just sweet enough. Appreciated the friendly service. A steady diet of 70's soft-rock quietly served as the soundtrack at this one lunch. There is easily accessible parking on the street or mostly-free city lot.

They are located upstairs but they had a popup stand downstairs near the big TV screen. I got their popular Hokey Pokey flavor which is a vanilla soft serve with toffee blended into it on topped on top. You can get their soft serve dairy or for a little more non dairy. I got it in their waffle cone which was pretty large. The toffee bits on top were good and melts in your mouth. It went well with the toffee blended ice cream. My only complaint was it was too sweet and on the melted side. I had to eat it quickly and it was runny and messy. They made my cone pretty quickly and I didn't have to wait long. Besides their most popular Hokey Pokey flavor their second most popular is their strawberry and cream one that comes with strawberry bits and whipped cream. But they have many other flavors including seasonal ones. They usually have about 10 different creations. I want to come back and try their hazelnut one.
