What happened to Bonchon? I love your crunchy soy garlic wings, but recently noticed the wings have drastically shrunk while the prices steadily rose. Bonchon faces stiff competition in the Bayside area. At one time they were the only "game in town" Now there are other Chain and Mom and Pop Korean fried chicken places popping up everywhere giving them competition. The soy garlic wings are still my favorite flavor as they deliver that sweet and savory crunch. What has got me baffled is the size of the wings which have drastically shrunk. It's like that 80's movie "Honey, I shrunk the kids!" In this case, the wings! As a longtime Bonchon fan. I also question whether my fix justifies the cost as generous portion sizes are no longer the norm, but the prices have gone completely off the rails. Bonchon also decided to phase out and limit its chicken promotions. Bonchon's culinary strengths remain intact though. The double fried chicken retains its iconic crunch, and the soy garlic sauce continues to strike a perfect balance of savory and sweet. I'm afraid Bonchon's pivot toward premium pricing and away from generous promotions reflects a challenging balancing act and risks alienating it's fan base. Come on Bonchon! Do the right thing. Bonchon chicken has been one of the original Korean fried chicken spots in this area when the trend first started, and I'm happy to say that they have maintained their quality and standards over time. The chicken has been consistently juicy with a crunchy crust and sweet flavorful soy garlic glaze. I personally prefer this over Mad For Chicken and while it's a small storefront, they do a a good job.The interior is relatively dim and only has a few tables, but take out is just fine as well. I got the combo, three drumsticks and 6 wings for $16.45, drumsticks were soy garlic flavor and the wings were the new Yang yum sauce. I definitely enjoyed the yang yum sauce more because it was sweet and more flavorful, but the soy garlic taste wasn't too bad. I liked how you could choose either radish or Cole slaw for the side, I got Cole slaw and it was really refreshing and paired well with the chicken. We wanted wings and thought we were going to the Bonchon in Flushing but instead the gps lead us to this one. Inside it was much smaller than the one in Flushing. The parking lot is just a few spaces in front of a strip mall. Inside the store there were only two tables in the front. There might have been more in the back but I couldn't see. Luckily, one of the two tables was free. We ordered 10 chicken strips and 10 wings with a side of fries. The fries came out first in about 10 minutes. They were good hot and crispy so we ate those first. The chicken came out another 10 minutes later. The strips were half spicy and half soy garlic wings. The wings were all soy garlic. They are delicious. Usually soy garlic is just salty but you can taste the soy sauce and the slight garlicky taste. They were crispy and unlike the last place all the wings were pretty sizable. I have been getting into Korean Barbecue recently and Bonchon is definitely near the top of the list. It's really more of a takeout place but you could eat there. The staff was friendly and efficient and we received our food pretty quickly. The prices have gone up thanks to this horrible economy. I always get the 20 or 30 piece soy garlic or spicy wings. Their always perfectly fried and seasoned every time. I love eating them with the pickled radish. I recommend ordering over the phone or online in advance since it takes 25+ minutes to prepare. Came here for late dinner...got here an hour before closing time. They do check for vaccination proof before you sit down, so make sure to bring it with you. Parking lot shared with other shops in the same block... The menu is smaller than other locations - was really craving japchae but they don't offer in this location. When it comes to Korean fried chicken in Queens, Bonchon would not be my first choice. However, I still order take out from them from time to time. They're definitely quicker in terms of getting my order ready than most places. Due to COVID, there is no inside dining and they do not have outdoor dining either. When I came to pick up my order, they actually had lots of take out bags so they're definitely still busy. I ordered 20 piece wings, 10 piece strips, and seasoned fries. Everything was hot when I got it and their boxes have holes on top to allow circulation so that it doesn't get soggy. Their wings were kind of uneven in sizes, some having little meat but everything was still very crispy - so the holes in the box definitely worked. The chicken strips are great for people who don't want to deal with bones. Their wings has a thin batter on the outside but the strips kind of have an uneven batter, but it isn't so bad that it's not enjoyable. The sauce coating is a bit uneven though and both the soy garlic and spicy flavors aren't strong. I liked the seasoned fries too. It was crispy, yet not to much that you can't taste the potato inside. Can't really go wrong with Korean fried chicken. If you want to fulfill your cravings, Bonchon is a good spot to check out, especially if you want fast service. read more

When it comes to fried chicken, I'm always down for some bonchon, even if it causes me to get canker sores or breakout, it's well worth it. I'm a big fan of their garlic soy flavor. The crispy double-fried glazed skin with garlic soy.... it's like food sent from the gods. I do have to say though, the wings are definitely more flavorful than the drumstick. The food here is always good for me, my wife and I always order the soy garlic chicken large combo which comes with 15 wings and 8 drumsticks. My wife likes the drumsticks while I enjoy the wings. My wife says the drumstick have a lot of meat and she feels full afterwards, while i like the drumsticks because it gives you a good fried chicken skin to meat ratio. The flavor is always on point and my wings always satisfying. I've been to this location three times now and have always ordered online for pick up. The first 2 times, the food was great, hot, tasty, memorable. The third time however the drumsticks were not fully cooked, the thicker drumsticks could have definitely used a extra minute or two in the frier, the meat was still pink while the leaner drumsticks were okay. First time trying Korean wings, and it was definitely a cool experience. I tried the Korean peach soju, not bad the flavor was alright. The wings were pretty good very lite and crispy, well seasoned. I was surprised that it wasn't drenched in sauce like most wings. Only thing that disappointed me was that there were only two flavors to choose from soy garlic or spicy. I tried both the spicy wasn't as spicy as I thought it would've been but I prefer the soy garlic. Otherwise the vibe was good, we got seated immediately staff were super pleasant and attentive. I ordered online and they had my order prepared a lot earlier than expected. I ordered a set of large wings half and half. The wings seem a little smaller than what I am used to. The flavors were definitely there though. I also ordered the seasoned fries and they were pretty good too. Unfortunately, since it was takeout, they weren't as fresh. I popped them into the airfryer when I got home to heat them back up again. Other than that, it was a good mix between the fries itself and the seasonings they put on top. Very disappointing experience with Bonchon. I used to love it during high school before the other non-chain Korean fried chicken spots opened. Now I remember why I haven't returned for years. The flavors are still good, but only on the wings they actually decide to apply the sauce to. The spicy flavor is not spicy. The batter they use is randomly not crispy, so when you're expecting crunch, you instead bite down onto mushy batter/skin which is the last thing you want when paying $1-2+ per piece of chicken. I understand times are tough, but skimping so much on the sauce/glaze and haphazardly frying the chicken is not the way to bounce back. I'd rather go to literally any other Korean fried chicken spot within a 2-mile radius, even if it is slightly more expensive elsewhere. If this hasn't dissuaded you from going (perhaps you've had a better experience), let me know how their "Sweet Crunch" flavor is. Been meaning to try this place so when O2 was an hour wait, we went here. Nothing fancy inside but decent service with a bell to press at your table when you need service. It's fast food place and I could see slot of orders with all the bags lined up. Kids have seafood allergy so could not have wings as everything go is fried together.
