I preferred the soy garlic, the spicy reallllyyy got to me! Next time I want to try their bone in options - my husband prefers boneless. Yesterday we had the pleasure of going to Bonchkn for lunch and were delighted by the service, quality of food and especially the hospitality! The owner Sunny Trehan came and spoke with us about the food quality and hard work he's been putting into his restaurants. He even asked us to try the wings and they were phenomenal. Bonchon is great. The chicken is crispy and airy at the same time. My favorite is their katsu. 10/10. I've been to the Norfolk location and their Va. Beach location and my preference is the Va beach one. The manger at that one is friendly and very approachable. They share the same atmosphere but with different vibes. At the Va Beach one, they playing the music but people are eating and talking. At the Norfolk one you may very well see people up dancing to the music. The food was amazing at Bon Chon, as always. The wings were perfectly crispy and the flavor was perfect! The fries were also very delicious and my drink was how I like it! As for the service, our waitress was an absolute doll. She was so helpful when ordering, she always kept our drinks filled, and when our orders of fries got lost in the kitchen, she brought us out two extra. The overall vibe of Bon Chon is always fun. It was a Saturday evening and everyone was coming in for dinner. Luckily, we came at a good time (6:30 ish) and didn't have to wait for seating. Always amazing crispy chicken every time I have visited. Great lunch spot! The soy garlic is my favorite and the potstickers are so amazing and crispy yet has that soy garlic sauce built in so you don't even need to dip! The way they're dedicated to not caring is very frustrating to me. I place an online order, and before you say "oh it's the third party", it wasn't them. I CALLED them because as usual I know if I don't call and ask after them I won't receive the proper things. Maybe VA bonchon isn't the same as MD bonchon. But this place was just horrible. We ordered wings with extra sauce we got what I can only imagine was day old wings that had almost no sauce at all on them. Had to drive 22 minutes there again! Called them 10 times on the way so they could have it ready and we didn't have to wait again. Finally someone answered and when we got there it wasn't even being prepared. Then again they had no sauce on them. Had to go back in and then they finally added sauce right in front of us. It was a clear difference in color. Even after all of this it tasted horrible. never had any issues in bonchon in MD. This is my 3rd time going to Bonchon. 1st time was in DC, 2nd time was near Richmond, and now here in Norfolk. Last time I went I had the chicken wings, which were bomb[dot]com. I've had similar fries from Smash Burger and these were so much better compared to those, but I like thicker fries and these were also super crunchy. Finished all the fries. Should've bought more. Pork Buns: Filipinos have a similar bread that they use to make siopao and because of that, I already liked it. Honestly, if I just had these 3 pork buns with the fries I would've been full. Bulgogi Tacos: You get 3 tacos with this meal and they are pretty big and FILLED. They are super, super good. I could only eat 2 of them and one pork bun! HAPPY HOUR: Don't hate me, I forgot the happy hour times, but it's before 5pm. They had their chicken tenders and seasoned fries for $5. They also had alcohol on there, but I didn't drink any so I didn't really pay attention to it. The restaurant itself was 2 stories with seating on the second floor. Almost representative of a loft. For the past 12 years, I've personally been to at least 10+ different Bonchon locations across the East coast and sadly this spot here probably rank at the bottom when it comes to the chicken quality. First and foremost this place has THE BEST customer service I have ever had experience with. There was a confusion, mostly on my part, with my wings. I ordered half and half and was only tasting extreme spice and was pretty certain I was only given the spicy one. I neverrrrr complain, like it gives me terrible anxiety, and im 9 months pregnant so i'm already emotional lol. I spoke with the manager, Tim, and he was quick to accommodate me and was super polite. He swapped me 10 wings with a different flavor and yallll it was SO GOOD. Every single item we got off the menu was *chef's kiss* superb. We spent around $100 (not including the $20 tip) for everything we ordered. Is it pricey? Yes. Is it nice inside? Yes. Is the food good? YES. I have zero issues paying a bit more for some bomb food, especially with great customer service.. We will, without a doubt, be back again very soon. 10000% recommend this place. Staff is always attentive and friendly as soon as you walk in. This establishment has both seating downstairs and upstairs. I am usually seated upstairs which I like for some reason. It just seems cozier to me. It's an all white and bright place so it's pretty clear to see if it's clean and tidy or not. I typically find it clean and tidy and seats orderly. Food is always piping hot as it is made to order. The wings, chicken and drumsticks are large and delicious. Soy garlic is our go to! I've been to several Bonchons and this is the first where I've walked in there was absolutely no acknowledgment of our presence. A couple other people were waiting before us, and same for them. After walking around all day and driving in circles for parking, we were looking forward to sitting down to a good meal. Waited several minutes (which felt like agony considering how hot and tired we were) with one person there who was wiping tables but no other help to be seen. Considering that this type of disinterested, absent, and slow service would just continue even if someone came and sat us, we decided to cut our losses and leave. I get it's hard to find help but unfortunately, it kind of soured my interest in returning. There are other excellent Korean restaurants that may not have fried chicken, but is attentive and quick to seat you.
