we got a chance to try bonchon the first week it opened and recently went back a month later and there was no wait! our cashier was really nice and answered any of the questions we had. the place is still very cleanly kept. we ordered the to go combo with soy garlic and the new yangyum sauce. for our sides, we got the seasoned fries and Korean Street corn. everything was so delicious and I loved both flavors the seasoned fries and corn cheese was also so good. their wings are some of the crunchiest I've ever tried. this was enough to feed me and 3 other people. if you are in the mood for a Korean fried chicken meal bonchon is a must try read more

I went here for the first time yesterday with some friends who live in Petaluma. For a sort of fast food place. It was actually very tasty. I like that they had a lot of Korean dishes because there's not a lot of good Korean up here. I'm used to it being more prevalent in San Francisco where I grew up. You will not be disappointed if you go here and give it a go. The food didn't make it to the photo shoot/ Music video!!! Thats how incredibly delicious the food was. The Korean BBQ wings had a beautiful crunch that one would hear in an ASMR video. Having been to multiple Bonchon locations in the Bay Area, I was super excited upon hearing that one was opening up in Petaluma. There were several delays to the store opening date, but once it was open I headed on over to try it out. Since I went during the first few weeks of opening, the online ordering was closed and I went to order in person. There was a long line and it took roughly a 30 minute wait to order. I usually go for a combination of the soy garlic and yangnyeom flavors but was informed that they did not have the yangnyeom sauce option. I could totally understand since they were working out the kinks. I ended up ordering soy garlic chicken and a tteokbokki. While in line, the owner/manager called out my name and informed me that they were out of fishcakes for the tteokbokki dish. They asked if it was okay to add more rice cake to make up for it and I said sure! However after receiving the takeout and opening the dishes at home, I realized that it was all fishcakes and no rice cake! They had mistakenly reversed what was missing. I was extremely disappointed, since I would not have followed through with wanting this dish if I knew it would be all fishcakes. Overall, I think my experience at this particular location was very mid. The chicken was too crispy and a tad dry, and the fishcake dish only added to the disappointment. I'll give the restaurant a little bit to work out the issues and will give it another chance in the future! read more

The service at Bonchon Petaluma was slow due to understaffing, taking 30 minutes to order despite being third in line at the 11:00 am opening. The employee taking orders was friendly. I ordered Bulgogi fries and a combo of 8 wings and 4 drums--half spicy, half garlic--with coleslaw and a drink, totaling $55. The Bulgogi fries were average, and the chicken was not hot, indicating potential reheating issues. Despite these problems, I may give them another try in the future. Went there for the very first time Sunday afternoon . Let me tell you it was busy there was 2 people at the counter and from what I could see 2 in kitchen. Nice decor in the restaurant.i ordered the 6 pc wings with soy garlic sauce and the 5 pc drumsticks with the same sauce and had Korean corn. The wings were crispy after taking them home and the drumsticks they were both huge and crispy. The corn had green onions and those crispy onions.I will definitely go back there. read more

I've been back several times since my first visit in February, and I still think it's worth the 5 stars. They've improved everything I pointed out in my first review, and the food has been consistently delicious! The wait time is totally reasonable now, usually just 10-15 minutes, and no more 45-minute grand opening lines (hooray!). As another reviewer mentioned, it does seem like prices went up and it is a bigger hit to the wallet to eat here now. I think, for better or worse, because Bonchon is such a large chain, the new California fast food minimum wage law likely had a heavy influence on those price changes. Despite that, I'll definitely keep coming to Bonchon, and I'm happy that they've made a home here in Petaluma! read more

We like the taste of the food here, but our last order, first they forgot the coleslaw. Second, we ordered 8 pieces of chicken strips. Honestly 3 of them were no bigger than a single bite, barely the size of a chicken nugget. And we ordered an order if seasoned fries. If there were 10 fries in that bag I'd be shocked. I don't need massive portions but I sure expect to get what I paid for, which wasn't cheap either. Like $7 or $8 for an order a fries, that turn out to be $.80 per French fry? nice people so I feel bad leaving a bad review, but I think it's the last time we'll try it. read more

Having been eagerly awaiting this restaurants opening for months and months, I am delighted to say that the flavors of the chicken did not disappoint! Crunchy hardly even describes it. I think, depending on your personal taste, it could be too crunchy, but that seems to be the style they're going for with their dishes, being Korean-styled eats. Wait times were... pretty rough. Over half an hour in line, 45 minutes more for a single order of 5 chicken strips and Korean street corn. Out of most of their sauces by 2 PM, and the drink fountain was down. All these things are to be expected, though, given they're a brand new restaurant. Issues happen; so I don't fault them for that. Portions for some of the items are a bit skimpy though, most particularly the sides. The street corn was good, but a tad overpriced in my opinion. The chicken, however, was surprisingly cost effective. The pieces I had were nice and big, though one of the five was a shrimpy little thing. I imagine on a bad day you could get unlucky and have 2, maybe 3 of those tinier pieces and come out with a much less satisfying meal. All in all, it's a treat to have this delightful food in the area. I hope with time and experience they'll be able to solve their time-table issues, because the flavors are top notch! read more

First time trying this place and it did not disappoint! We got there around 3pm for a late lunch so it was empty but several to-go orders were picked up while we were there. The staff were super friendly and took their time explaining some of the dishes to us. They highly recommended the wings so we got an order of eight wings with two different sauces "soy garlic and the Korean BBQ. I loved the super crispy and large wings!! We each ordered the chicken sandwich and some delicious seasoned fries that were perfectly crispy! The chicken sandwich was delicious and had a generous sized chicken breast on a brioche bun with coleslaw. We were asked what type of spice we wanted and we said "medium" but we both didn't feel it was spicy enough. I went up and asked for some of the spicy sauce to add to our sandwich and was a little disappointed that we were charged extra for it (spicy mayo) While we were eating, the super friendly owner Loc came over and introduced himself to us and thanked us for coming in and trying it out. I was in the mood for soup tonight so got a beef udon soup to go. They packaged it perfectly (beef and noodles separate from the broth so the noodles keep their consistency). When I got it home I inhaled it - so delicious - mildly spiced and left me grinning from ear to ear. We picked up takeout. We got the spicey mixed chicken with pickled radish, Cole slaw, kimchi, and bulgagi fried rice. The chicken was hot, juicy, and super crispy even after the drive home. The spicy sauce was just right, sweet and tangy with pleasant heat. The fried rice was a bit disappointing. The rice was just ok and didn't have enough bulgagi to justify the extra price. The radish and kimchi were both tasty, but the Cole slaw was kind of mediocre. Not bad, but not great, either. The chicken is definitely the star of the shower. read more

I am giving Bonchon a five star rating for excellent customer service. I placed a take-out order and, when I got home, I noticed that I was missing a pickled radish (which was one of the reasons I went to Bonchon). I called and spoke with the owner, Lock, who remembered me. When I told him what had happened, Lock immediately apologized and wanted to make it right by offering to drive to my house and deliver the pickled radish. I advised him it wasn't necessary since it was partly my fault for not checking my order before I left the restaurant. Lock was insistent in dropping off the radish, which he ended up doing. I have had similar situations with other Petaluma restaurants, and all I got from these restaurants were the "I'm sorry that happened" comment. None of them offered to rectify the situation. So, Lock, thank you and I am definitely going back to Bonchon and will bring friends and family. As for food, I've only had the wings with soy and garlic sauce so far, and I'm giving the quality and the taste of the food five stars as well. I can't wait to return to Bonchon and try their other dishes. read more

I have eaten here twice. First try, it took over an hour standing in line and waiting for our food. Second time it took about 45 minutes. Each visit they stopped taking orders for a time to get caught up. I was really looking forward to eating here. I love fried chicken! I'm also a pro chef so I'm very food oriented. The second time I ate here I ordered my chicken wings plain with no sauce because the first visit, I was disappointed with the lack of crispness. Well, unfortunately the plain wings were not much better texture wise. They reminded me of bad fish-n-chips. The batter stays on but, in no way was it crunchy or crispy. Somehow the chicken its self was overcooked and the batter was undercooked. How disappointing. I mean, how do you even do that? I was so looking forward to a tasty fried chicken treat! This place is new to this area and I'm sure that they'll get it together service wise and I can only hope that the food will improve. Alas, my search for really good fried chicken (that I haven't cooked myself) in Petaluma continues. read more
