Overhyped. The one word I can come up with to describe the 80-90% of the 1,000 reviews here that gave it 4+ stars. My guess it that people never really tried real good Korean chicken wings before (since there isn't anything in the Southbay - and no 99 Chicken is not good either) or Southbay folks really want to think that they have something better than San Tung in SF (which is pretty much a culinary blasphemy). I had the medium size meal with 2 drums + 6 wings both spicy and soy garlic. I also had sweet potato fries and a side of kimchi. Well, lets just start with the chicken. Talk about a let down. It literally tasted like KFC and the meat was dry. The sauce on the outside was no sauce at all. Don't get me wrong, doesn't have to be saucy anyhow, but overall, it was severely lacking in flavor. Worse yet, they did even coat the sauce or flavoring around the chicken evenly. it was like they just fired the darn thing and added the sauce in a bowl and toss it a couple time. Overall, the flavor was super bland. Although the batter was a bit thick for me, it was still crispy, so that's good - hence the 2 stars. The fries were good, but the kimchi was a throwaway. People if you really want to have good Korean wings go to San Tung in SF. The fried chicken skin on their fried chicken is the best I have ever eaten period. Better than 99 Chicken's chicken skin. But the only thing that I bothers me about their chicken is that when you bite into it, there really isn't any flavor. All the flavor is on the skin of the chicken. There is no taste when you get to the meat. This is my personal opinion. I still think that Bon Chon is delicious, don't get me wrong. I love coming to eat here when I have the chance but the fact that there is no flavor kinda bugs me. Service is great. Spicy strips are awesome! Got half and half with the other type as well, garlic mild things. The non spicy was ok but wouldn't bother with that again. Now it is legit spicy so beware, but if that's is your thing, do it! I got the large and it came with three sides. They can keep everything but the white rice as far as I am concerned as I just don't like coleslaw or pickled radishes. Have no idea if they are good or bad so try it out on your own. Whoa. I recently went to Ad Hoc for fried chicken, and it wasn't nearly as good as the wings at Bon Chon. Had the regular and spicy wings. Both were amazing. I think it's safe to say that Bon Chon is currently my go-to place for chicken wings. It's just so good! The wings are on point, not gonna lie. I didn't really like the large drumsticks, they were a bit dry for my liking (although when you select the 'wings' option, there seems to be a variety of wings and drumsticks albeit smaller. The smaller ones are good though) The chicken is crispy yet juicy and the flavors are pretty good. It reminds me of KFC, except 1/4th of the greasiness and definitely a more unique flavor. I think both the spicy garlic and the soy garlic are quite tasty, but the soy garlic has a bit of an edge since I have virtually no tolerance for anything spicy. You should just get both :D Also, I quite enjoy the biscuits. Yummy! And their strawberry yogurt soju, as well as the peach, is delicious. I'd go there just for that ;) Service can be a bit iffy at times, but the employees are nice so it's cool. Always the #1 go to place for Korean Chicken in the South Bay. It can get packed during peak hours, but unless you order to go for large groups or eating for a table of two, this place is worth the trip. Service: The service is fast, especially if you know what you're getting and your main priority is chicken. I mean it is a chicken wings place for a reason. If you order quickly, you can expect your food to come out fairly quickly. But if you do take your time, I notice people get their food a little later than some. Small location with limited seats so wait time can go over an hour even for weeknights. Service is decent , but chicken quality has gone down the hill since a few years ago. There weren't much to compare to back then , but now with many other branches opening up the quality here really doesn't live up to the original hype. Definitely prefer vons over this and if I'm craving bonchon I tend to wait until theres a need to go to South San Jose. We showed up around 11:30ish on a Saturday and there was plenty of seats. I assume the crowds and lines are mostly during dinner time. I personally didn't think Korean fried chicken is a lunch item since I usually enjoy it with beer and associate with a late night thing. We had five people so we ordered a combo and a medium order of fried chicken. However, we ended up adding a small order at the end. The combo had a choice of appetizer (we chose curly fries), 2 sides (we did double order of kimchi coleslaw), large order of fried chicken (we chose all wing - 20 pieces), and a pitcher of beer. The chicken orders itself comes with some pickled radish/daikon (the reason for the indecisiveness is because I think its daikon but I heard the waitress say radish). They have soy garlic and spicy soy garlic for the flavors of fried chicken. We got a mix and I love their soy garlic. The wings were juicy on the inside and crunchy and flavorful on the outside. The spicy was a bit too spicy for me, but I bet it is delicious to those who can tolerate it. The chicken goes perfectly well with the pickled radish/daikon. Oh boy do I love me some korean fried chicken! Definitely an experience to dine in and eat the wings fresh and crispy from the kitchen than ordering togo. This place can get busy during dinner time on the weekends. I've waited 30-45 minutes before on a thursday night! The establishment itself is pretty small, if I had to compare it, it's like your average wingstop chain sized. If you're dining in with a party of 3-4, depending on your appetite one of the combo's should suffice. I usually go for Combo A which includes an appetizer, large order of chicken, 2 sides, and an alcohol of your choice. I'd usually get the kimchi coleslaw and rice for sides. The kimchi coleslaw is actually kind of refreshing. Not really spicy or pickl-y like kimchi, but it's kimchi coleslaw? Then the spicy soy garlic potstickers for the appetizer and top it off with the peach or yogurt cocktail soju. I'd also recommend ordering the chicken with extra glaze. :3 If you're eating spicy soy garlic wings and the spicy potstickers.. you better ask for extra napkins because it got my nose running! It has been several years since I've been to the South Bay to have fried chicken. But the scent of Korean fried chicken has never escaped my brain. Thinking that 99 Chicken was much further away (only down the street, who knew?), this place presented itself. The photos looked delicious. I think CB2 started the right trend with square plates and square bowls. Everything served on square flatware suddenly feels fresh, tastier, creative, and different. Round is so 2010. The troops gathered at Bon Chon Chicken around 7:30pm. A group of 6 young Asian males beat us to the last large table by 5 minutes. And for some freak reason, the other groups were comically large (group of 15? group of 8? group of 5-7 that ate slower than senior retirement homes?). Thus, there were about 6 tables, all with over 6 people at each. But at least it wasn't crowded. So we waited at the bar. And waited at the bar. And waited. Strangely enough, I wasn't hungry quite yet so I didn't mind the wait. We chatted with our friends (yes, we were a group of 6) whom we have not seen for about 3 years (law school = life suck). And finally, we were seated. We ordered the combo A and added on a small strawberry soju, ginger sesame tofu salad, french fries, small white meat, 2 ice creams and another pitcher of beer. The fried zuccini and french fries came out very quickly. It was soon followed by the tray of fried chicken! Oh yes. I permitted the entire platter to be placed in front of me. Kimchi cole slaw: creative in theory, poor execution. It had a funny aftertaste. Like saccharine or aspartame. The sweetness was unnatural and disturbing. Daikon: not tart enough. I like pickled things to be pickled. Make me pucker. Didn't get to taste the zucchini fries. Regular fries were good. Didn't get to taste the white meat chicken. The mixed chicken was very very tasty. I agree that this place managed to get some kind of magical crust all around the outside of the chicken. Biting into the crust released a plethora of flavor and steam. The sauce was not drippy or overwhelming but thinly coated to moisten the outside. The BF and Matty each picked up a large drumstick and sucked the meat off the bone. I was a little more conservative since I'd had part of a footlong hot dog, garlic fries, hot pastrami and a scone earlier for lunch. Piggy piggy piggy! The salad was good. It could have used less dressing for my taste but it was perfectly coated/tossed and everyone at the table enjoyed it. The tofu was fried into cubic pieces that resembled particle board but still the BF refused to try it. I think he has control issues. We will be back. It was a different experience than 99 chicken. Their menu's pretty simplistic in regards to fried chicken with only a few options but they have an assortment of other things. Oh, a word of warning, their sides (which you get one with a small order, two with a large or medium order) are small..like personal size small. NOW for the important stuff..the chicken!! My friends and I came here on a Thursday night and surprisingly, we had to wait approximately an hour around 7:30PM. Crazy!!! It was nice to have a change from eating the chicken and keeping my mouth cool from the spicy soy garlic. For the chicken, we ordered half soy garlic and half spicy hot garlic. Definitely, stick with the soy garlic sauce. The spicy hot garlic sauce became a bit overwhelming as it was burning in my mouth more than I had expected. It had a really spicy kick though. Nonetheless, I really liked their original soy garlic chicken! It was very crispy and the soy garlic had great flavor. The chicken wasn't too drenched into the sauce. It was also really moist on the inside too! PLUS, it's also great how I didn't really feel too gross after eating the chicken. :) Overall, service was just OK that night as they were quite busy. There's plenty of parking since it's located in the plaza. Just expect a wait if you do come at peak times. Really hyped up.... got the wings in the spicy flavor and idk, the fried batter surrounding the chicken was really thick and tasted a bit like sriracha heat, which there's nothing wrong with that but I mean, I could slather some sriracha on a chicken wing and have it taste the same! The meat inside was really yummy and juicy but the skin I could do without. The biscuits as the side dish was really delicious!! But yeah, maybe I should try the soy garlic flavor next time. I liked this a lot! I couldn't really tell the difference between the two types of chickens, but the flavors were both good! Very crispy exterior that reminds me of KFC but it def tastes very tangy and delicious somehow!! Not sure how they got that flavor there without sticky wings! I also really enjoyed that kimchi salad. I find it odd, appalling even, that this place isn't rated higher. But at the same time, 99Chicken is a better place to get wasted at. Maybe that's the reason... I've never been a fan of 99Chicken, and my dining experience here solidified that sentiment. The customer service, attention to detail, and the food itself is vastly better than 99. I really don't want to get into a big comparison between the two restaurants, so if you want to know how I feel about 99Chicken, read my review. Everything Bon Chon does shouts quality, and it starts from being greeted as soon as you walk in. Then upon seating, you're asked if you'd like some water. Sure, other places do the same, but it's actually kind of rare amongst Asian joints in the area. You're also given ample time to go over the menu. So I ordered the zucchini fries, ten piece white meat (breast tenders) meal, and the bulgogi bowl. It took about 20 minutes to arrive, on a slow day, but it was well worth it. The fries were prefect. I have to admit that I abhor zucchini, but this was done right. The breading on the outside reminded me of fried mozzarella sticks, and the insides were beautifully cooked. The fries were served with a spicy sauce and some ranch. The spicy sauce was good and I don't remember too much about the ranch. The bulgogi was so much better than expected. Knowing that BC is known for their chicken, I had low expectations for the bulgogi, but boy was I proven wrong. The meat was prefectly cooked, and the flavors were bold without overpowering any of the individual ingredients. And the way the rice is cooked just added to the overall enjoyment of the dish. Now, the main event was the chicken. Lightly breaded, perfectly sauced, and the crunch was impeccable. I ordered the hot sauce and it was the ideal balance of heat, garlic, sweet, and soy. I have to say that near the end of the meal, the chicken got a tiny bit tough, but it was too damned good to let that be a hinderance. This is one of the places I will miss most when we fully move out of Sunnyvale. Luckily, we have reasons to come back (other than food), and I'll be sure to use those reasons to get my Bon Chon fix. I can't believe I only gave Bon Chon 4 stars. First, the chicken is awesome. Second, the bulgogi wraps are awesome. I think that only getting either rice or coleslaw is a bummer. And, I wish they gave more sides with their food. This is Korean-owned right? What happened to Ban Chan? But, even though I can quibble about the lack of sides, I actually crave this food. It is also a great place for drinks. They serve beer by the pitcher. And, all the soju that you can handle. The price is very reasonable when you order the large. It is a very reasonable portion if you are in a group or you take a cab. I appreciate the whole sports bar atmosphere. But, it is a small location, which makes the three giant flat screen TVs seem out of place. And partying in a strip mall is still strange to me. California, you so crazy. Good portions, chicken is crispy and delicious. I like how there's only two choices for chicken - no decision fatigue! Ordered the medium for 3 people and it was a good size. Got the kimchi coleslaw and coleslaw as sides (pickled radish comes with the order), and was a big fan of the kimchi coleslaw. Would recommend! read more

So apparently I don't know the difference between wings and drumsticks? I came here with a friend and got there around 8:20 and we tried to order the drumsticks and they said they were all out. So we ended up getting half/half of the flavored wings and they were definitely good. Pretty sure though that drumsticks are the ones that i hold with one hand and only one bone comes out afterwards and there was a mix of all in there. Besides that the chicken was delicious I definitely like the spicy flavor more due to the fact that I like spicy food and the first bite has a good kick. We also got the zucchini fries and I was so happy that it wasn't just all batter and a soggy piece of zucchini. It was battered but the zucchini tasted fresh and warmed up to the point of burning my tongue a bit. Only reason I docked off a star was because only one guy actually did work. He could practically be the only one working because he took everyone's orders, served everyone, got them water and utensils, gave them boxes and checks while I saw another 3 workers literally standing behind the bar doing nothing whatsoever besides talking to each other.
