I'm actually sad writing this review because I really wanted to love this restaurant. I have heard and read many good things about it, so what happened?! I started off with the raspberry yuzu and it was so bad. It was so watered down from the very start. I had the papaya salad, and it literally tasted like nothing. I am sure that even a cucumber salad with olive oil would've had more flavor than what I ate. The bone marrow was also very bad. There was no flavor in the marrow and the bread was soft as if it were an old toasted piece of bread that got soggy. The blue crab toast was also bad. The flavor was so seafoody crab raw and not in a good way. I got the nasi goreng with garlic hanger steak. For an almost $30 plate of fried rice, this was very very underwhelming. I'd rather get a Panda Express fried rice with orange chicken on the side. The rendang cabornara was also very random. It was a very confused dish being an Asian Italian fusion. Now what they're known for - bone kettle right? So I had to get the bone kettle noodle and broth. I got the prime fatty brisket because it was one of the two most popular ones. There was absolutely nothing special about this. I really don't understand what happened. The Chicken Satay was good with the peanut butter sauce, but for the price? Definitely not worth it for just a few skewers. The chicken wings were decent but how hard can chicken wings be. Came here last night for Dine LA and had a great time. We'll be back. We had a reservation and were sat immediately. They were so busy that it did take 5-10 minutes for someone to come over but that was obviously not par for the course as everyone around us was getting lots of attention and when our server did come over he was extremely apologetic. Service was stellar the rest of the night. To the point that we were looking around the room for the restroom and our waiter sent someone to check on us as he was with another customer. The second we finished, someone was there to sweep away the dish. As other people have noted, service is included in the bill but they do call that out and the service is every bit as good as the 20% they charge. If not more. Food was delicious. We got the oysters, garlic prawns, braised oxtail with broth and noodles and then the bread pudding and the panna cotta. We got a bottle of wine from the dine LA list to drink. (Love that they offer that as an option!) We liked everything. Not sure if the noodles were made in house, but they seemed to be and I enjoyed them very much. For the price of the meal, the oxtail could have been braised a bit longer so it was less difficult to get off the bone and I wished the bread pudding was a little more moist. But definitely being a bit nitpicky in saying that because it was a delicious meal and we're excited to go back. read more

Made reservations same day for brunch on a Saturday as we head towards Pasadena. Definitely worth doing since it was snowing in LA that day. There's no way I was going to stand waiting in line out in the freezing cold. We had the papaya salad but it was missing that burn your mouth spiciness that we are use to. 36 hour cooked Bone Broth Soup was definitely a hit. I have been waiting to try Bone Kettle, and luckily got to try it tonight! We were a group of 7, and we didn't have a reservation, but luckily we were able to get a table. When we sat down, the host told us that we only had 1.5 hr to eat, which we agreed to. We sat down around 5:30. We shared the blue crab toast, oxtail dumplings, and garlic prawns to start. Highly highly highly recommend these all! Especially the blue crab toast, it has the texture of a crab cake but on top of there perfect pieces of toast, and it's a wonderful combination. A few of us all got the bone broth, which is super delicious. As someone who loves soups, I appreciate how tasty it was. Definitely recommend, and it's a solid portion. it was little awkward because 3 of us ordered the noodles, but the manager/chef(?) who brings around the broth, didn't pour it for one of our party members. So our waiter had to go and find more broth for us. My BF got the lobster, and it was absolutely delicious. We really liked our waiter, he checked in on us, and was great. The outdoor patio dining area is so cute! It feels like we're in Europe with the spacious open area and tall ceilings. This place has a great ambiance and service but the foods are overpriced. We ordered an appetizer bone marrow for our group of 6. The meat is so tender and juicy. It's seasoned well but there is little meat for the price. We also ordered the Rendang Carbonara thinking there would be a lot of meat. It is mostly a thick heavy pasta dish with only a few pieces of the braised short rib. The few rib pieces are very tender and melts in your mouth. The thick noodles with their cream sauce really fills you up. We all really enjoyed their cocktail drinks. We got the pork belly hash, loco moco, and the shrimp. The shrimp was cooked till it was very crunchy and came with a dipping sauce. Very yummy, but didn't come with rice which is kinda weird to me. The pork belly hash, the pork belly was crispy to the point of overcooked, while the potatoes had too much lemon for my tastes. Another yummy restaurant in Pasadena! I definitely recommend reservations as this place was pretty busy. Service was excellent. There's both outdoor dining and the indoor dining extends quite deep into the restaurant. The servers were very attentive and had a lot of recommendations. Passion fruit mojito was very refreshing and sweet. Not a very strong drink but it was very enjoyable. The merlot was recommended as a good pairing for all the dishes, but it was a bit light in flavor for me. Blue crab toast - a must try! My favorite item out of what I ordered. It's unique in flavor and delicious. I would definitely get it again. Clams and donut - the Chinese donut isn't greasy like what you'd get at a Chinese breakfast place. But mine was a bit burnt so it was overly crispy and a tad hard. The clams were yummy but it could be cleaned better as it was a little grainy from the sand. The broth is flavorful and almost a bit too salty if you try it alone. I did enjoy soaking the donut in the broth before eating. Nasi goreng with chicken - a bit underwhelming for a fried rice dish at this price point. The chicken was a little dry. It's overall enjoyable in taste but I wouldn't pay this price for it. We loved everything about this place. We came out to Pasadena for a nearby hike and stopped for brunch, finding this place through Yelp reviews. First of all, the food is exceptional. I had the brisket noodles and broth, and my husband had the breakfast steak and eggs. It was like 100 degrees out, and I finished all of my broth, because the flavor was excellent. We also had juices, all exotic fruits and all exceptional. But just as important as the quality of the food was the excellent service. This was the last place I went out to before things went awry with the pandemic. The broth was beautifully done, you can taste the ginger. The chicken was tender, quite a bit of pieces. The noodles were chewy, great texture. The onions were a nice touch, adding an umph in the taste overall. The oxtail hash was great! A bit greasy, but overall good. The oxtail was tender and juicy, very flavorful. The potatoes were crispy yet soft. The eggs gave a good balance with the potatoes and oxtail pieces. It was super easy to make a reservation on the Yelp app, which was nice. The restaurant's interior is dimly lit and modernly furnished. And, they have a lot of fusion options on their menu. I'm assuming they're known for their signature bone broth soups, but we just split a few appetizers. I higly recommend the latter if you're looking to try a variety of flavors. However, I will warn you that this place is pricey. We got the Mapo Tofu Fries, Clams & Donuts and Sisig. The fries were incredible! The meat and fries combo remains unmatched. Plus, it had a hint of sichuan, which was pleasantly surprising. The other two dishes were good, too, but nothing special. The Sisig is pork belly, so it is very fatty. Make sure to balance that out with the other dishes you order. We definitely ordered too much meat, haha. Their cocktails are aesthetically pleasing and not strong at all. Bone Kettle is my go-to spot for a special-ish occasion when I don't want to go all the way out to LA haha. Great for a birthday dinner or Mother's Day brunch. The prices are a bit steep otherwise I'd give it 5 stars and come more often. The food is excellent! They nail the Southeast Asian flavors. My must haves every time are the garlic prawns and ofc bone kettle soup. No words for the garlic prawns! They are crispy and flavorful, and they fry up the prawn skins and heads which is the best part. You really can't go wrong with the bone kettle broth. You choose what kind of meat but I recommend the oxtail or fatty brisket, and add an egg! Other standouts are the bone marrow (which you can eat with the soup) and the Singaporean chili lobster with noodles (a little spicy). Honestly the whole menu is great, definitely get a variety and share! The restaurant itself is super cute, clean, and modern. The peppers were too sweet and the pork did not taste fresh and it was quite dry crab dip- 4/10 I enjoyed the well toasted buttered bread. the crab itself was not fresh and had a very strong fishy smell fried rice- 6.5/10 This was the only dish that had a reasonable portion, but it was very salty. The sauce was delicious and spicy while the steak was melt in your mouth tender and juicy. I loved all components of this dish minus the rice. pandan panna cotta- 1/10 it was incredibly rich and sweet. It looked unappetizing with a neon green cream. This flavor profile, personally, is not for me. My friends enjoyed it, but I would pass on it. Overall 4.5/10. The food is mediocre and small and I do not see myself coming back. Abbreviated review because I only went here for happy hour but the ambiance and drink selection is amazing! I ordered the passion orange guava with soju and it was an excellent concoction. The passion fruit guava isn't on the online menu but is listed under refreshments in their happy menu when you arrive in person. If you don't order soju, then it will be around $7. Adding on soju will cost $2. I would come again to eat if I had another chance. The only thing that is difficult is finding parking. Pasadena street parking is notoriously challenging but luckily there is one parking structure nearby that charges $1 every 20 mins. The cost isn't too high but it can get very crowded if you go later in the evening. That being said, Bone Kettle was a very fun place to visit and they offer outside seating which is a plus. I was in the area and came tonight as a solo diner. I had no reservations, but fortunately there was one spot left at the bar. I asked the hostess what was most popular since it was my first time. She recommended the prime top sirloin and ox tail Bone Broth Noodles. And the brussel sprouts as an appetizer. When she asked where else could you get oxtail soup, I quipped back Chinese grandmas. The woman next to me said touché! I ordered the prime top sirloin bone broth noodles and soup along with the bone marrow for an extra $12. I also asked if I could have a taste of the Orion Rice lager beer. Then I left to go to the restroom downstairs. It was very clean with motion activated water and fan built into one. They also had one of those steps on the door to let you open it without touching. After getting back to the bar, my taste of beer was there. It was kinda hollow and not that flavorful, so I didn't order it. I had just had some good whiskey at my haircut anyway. After waiting a while, my noodles and bone marrow came. It was a dry bowl without broth and it kinda took a while for someone to come and add broth. I started on the bone marrow and it was delicious! I haven't eaten any bone marrow in a long time, so towards the end I was just licking it deep and clean like a beautiful woman. The bone broth noodle was not bad. Nothing mind blowing, but it had a decent amount of meat. I drank every drop of the broth as well. At the end I had to wait quite a while to close out. The restaurant was totally full and slammed, so one server was apologizing to the couple next to me. There were two middle aged white women who may even have dined and dashed. When my server was finally ready, I walked up to her POS to pay with Apple Pay. There was an automatic 20% service charge, but oh well. Beautiful space, easy parking nearby for $1 the first 2 hours, and not bad food. The service was just slammed. I would want to sit in the interior patio area next time. It looked gorgeous. We asked for them to come out with our main dishes so that we could switch from savory to sweet then back to savory. The workers were really helpful and even offered us their favorite choices to try since it was our first time without us even asking. Shrimp Balls (4 pieces): Think of it as a deep fried wonton but the inside reminded me of a siu mai. Really juicy, even more delicious with the mayo dipping sauce. Highly recommend as a dish to share! St. Helen's Braised Oxtails Bone Broth: This is what they're known for so of course we had to get one for ourselves. I was a little surprised that the oxtail wasn't in the soup and came out on a bed of fries. It felt like it wasn't integral to the meal and I would've been okay with just ordering only the noodles and soup if that could save some money. Ube Jam Toasted Coconut French Toast: If you're an ube lover, then this is the dish for you. The jam itself wasn't too sweet so if you need more sugar, they have maple syrup. Comes with four fluffy, thick slices. Crab w/ Squid Ink Waffle: This dish was just alright. The waffle sat under a bed of salad and was kind of soggy by the time we started eating it. Squid ink itself has no flavor to me so it tasted like regular waffles. But the deep fried soft shell crab was a unique twist to the typical chicken and waffles. Dragonfruit Lychee Lemonade: As the menu states, it's their most popular drink and the best part is that you can make it alcoholic. We arrived right before happy hour ended (6PM on weekdays) and put in a quick order for 4 food snacks and some beer. The food plates were around $7 each and had select beers and cocktails on discount as well! I enjoyed the lumpia and chicken satay! The lumpia was larger than traditional filipino lumpia and was more meat filled, I enjoyed them a lot still. The satay came with a great sauce and even had some pomegranate seeds that added a fresh pop of flavor to the dish. The longonisa was the non-sweet type, which I don't prefer as much and I was very excited about the wings but they lacked a flavor in my opinion. The true star of the show is the ramen. I got it with steak. The noodles were cooked to perfect and the broth was to die for! The cook the broth for almost 3 days in order to get it to that level of perfection. The fiancé and I tried out this place a few weeks back on a Sunday. We actually were going to go to Chado Tea next door and we're intrigued by the foods being served by this restaurant, so we decided to give this place a try. We were seated indoors by the bar area and asked one of the waiters about one of the dishes we saw when entering the restaurant. It turned out to be the Loco Moco, so I ordered that with a Soursop juice. The fiancé got us lumpia to split and he decided to go with the Ox Tail with his soup for his main dish. The restaurant was pretty full, so I understood the service would be a little slacking due to having to keep up with so many customers. It took a bit for all the food to come out, but everything tasted good. The lumpia was my least favorite out of the bunch since it wasn't the kind I'm use to that my mom would get from other Filipino restaurants. I really liked the Loco Moco's presentation and the that the gravy was the right consistency. The little bits of crispy onions and the quality of meat they used definitely made it a step higher than when I would get it at a Hawaiian restaurant. The ox tail was very soft and had a great flavor to it next to the broth, which was very little light. The Soursop juice complimented the meal, but wished that I was given a straw before our server disappeared because it was packed with crushed ice making it difficult to sip. We are ended up ordering Ube and Pandan cookies to go as well when we asked for the check. When it came to asking for the bill, paying for it, and waiting for our card back, we sat there for awhile and it got awkward because we wanted to leave at that point, but couldn't because they still had my fiancé's card. The table next to us also wanted to leave and it was just a lady that had ordered soup, but it took forever for a server to get to her too with her check and her change. I made a reservation for 3 people on a Friday evening and was seated right away. I requested indoor dining which they accommodated. The interior decoration and furniture here feels fancy (the middle room). Perhaps the dim light helped set the mood. I feel comfortable here. Here's what I ordered: Mandarin Sour (alcoholic drink) Calamansi Margarita (alcoholic drink) Gado Gado Fried Cauliflowers Sisig Kaffir Lime Crispy Chicken Rendang Carbonara Garlic Prawns (monthly special) Trio Creme Brule Turon Ube Cookie Overall most of the food here tasted light and airy. No strong flavor except Sisig has a kick of lime juice. If you're looking for authentic flavor or not a fan of Asian Fusion, this is probably not the place for you. It is a place for me though! The ambience is really nice in the middle dining room and the one in the back (outdoor). The first dining room when you first entered seem more casual with natural lighting. They also have seating in front of the restaurant on the street. The staffs here are friendly and made me feel welcome. Food came out quickly and I was able to enjoy it all at once. I prefer Mandarin Sour over Calamansi Margarita. The margarita is much stronger. I almost fell down the stairs on my way to the restroom. I didn't know and did not look down when I made a turn. In my opinion, small plates and desserts stole the show. I have not tried all the entrees yet so I look forward to coming back here again. I parked in the parking structure across and walked over ($12). You might find a cheaper parking structure but I wanted the closest one. read more

05.11.2024. I definitely have mixed opinions about this place. First, my family made a reservation in advance for a saturday to celebrate Mother's Day with brunch. We had a large party and somewhere there was a miscommunication which resulted in us sat in the front parklet instead of the inside terrace (just fyi, a parklet is on the street turned seating and is not equivalent to the patio or terrace). We eventually were relocated to the back but the first server who came to speak with us was a bit rude, saying that it was impossible to change. Another server (Annabelle) assisted us in moving to the inside terrace. She was super nice and friendly which helped soothe some of the feathers that were ruffled by the previous server. We had arranged for a tasting menu for $70pp. This included 3 tableside mimosas, 5 java martinis, 4 papaya salad, 4 crispy shrimp, 4 lumpia, 4 chilaquiles, 3 steak and eggs, 3 fried chicken and donuts, 4 loco moco, 4 salmon benedict, 4 sirloin pho, 4 passion fruit orange guava french toast, and 4 ube pandan waffle stacks. The $70pp included a 20% service charge. Overall, we had 19 people, so this was more than enough food and would have left us stuffed if we forced ourselves to finish everything. The food for the most part was okay for me. If I had to do it again, I would stick to one "dessert" (either waffles or french toast) and add more savory because it was wayyy too much dessert after we were already full. The papaya salad was meh. I think it was decent but not particularly punchy or memorable. The crispy shrimp was indeed crispy but a little overcooked and rubbery for my personal taste. Lumpia was yummy. It was unusual in a way that I haven't tried before. Hard to describe exactly. Chilaquiles were also yummy. I liked the combo of the sauce with the freshness of the avocado and the onions. Steak and eggs. This was truly delish. The steak was nicely flavored and tender. A bit greasy but still yummy overall. Fried chicken and donuts. This was a bit meh. They used chinese donuts which was an interesting spin. But I didn't really feel like it went well with the crispy chicken. It was two crispy textures together (with chicken and doughnuts, you normally think one crispy and one soft). Because they were both crispy, it was hard to eat together. Loco moco. This was truly massive. The burger patty itself I felt like was dry and overcooked. But the gravy was nice with the rice. Salmon benedict tasted normal. Nothing standout. Sirloin pho was fine. I thought that the sourdough bread and bone marrow butter that accompanied the pho was a lot more interesting. The salty butter was nice with the sour bread. POG french toast. This was meh for me. You don't really taste any of those flavors except for perhaps passion fruit? The bread was indeed fluffy but you needed to dip in syrup which was more like maple syrup. I think if the syrup was POG flavored it would be a lot yummier. The ube pandan waffle stacks were good. I think it was a nice touch to have ube ice cream. All of the food together was fine. I didn't have any superstars but there are some that I would recommend if someone just HAD to come here. I don't know if I would return but nice to try it at least once. read more

came here for mother's day dinner w/ a reservation so there was no wait but it was PACKED. i like the variety of food/cuisine combinations they have but some things are a hit or miss. for the price, would expect much better. this tastes like an americanized version of asian dishes but not as tasty and 3x the price as a small 626 shop. -blue crab toast (4.5/5) - the toast that it comes with is perfectly toasty and soft but with a slight crunch. crab cake is flavorful, worth a try. -oxtail dumplings (3.5/5) - a little overly salty and the dumpling wrap seemed undercooked, but flavor was pretty good -steak tartare + sisig + papaya salad (4/5) - average/not bad but nothing to rave over -chicken satay (2/5) - tasted like basic unflavorful grilled chicken breast. it has no texture/chew to it like it does at thai restaurants. -chicken wings (5/5) - comes out super hot and crispy. good flavor, reminds me of taiwanese popcorn chicken -nasi goreng w/ wagyu (4/5) - wagyu is pretty tender and cooked well, rice tastes like your usual fried rice -rendang carbonara (1/5) - was wayyy too salty and the flavor really turned me off. -ube brownie w/ ube ice cream (5/5) - can't go wrong w brownies and ice cream!! read more

I came for dinner with my family, a group of 6, on a Tuesday evening. I had made a reservation for 7:15 and we were seated about 10min after the reservation time in the patio in the back - a beautiful space! 1. Garlic Prawns - Great flavor but I wished they were crispier. 2. Steak Tartare - This wasn't the best tartare I've had but the salted egg zest was interesting. The presentation was pretty though. 3. Bone Marrow - We got huge bones with lots of bone marrow! It can get heavy just eating the bone marrow on bread but the salad helps cut it. I love salad with fruits! 4. Oxtail Dumplings - Rich oxtail and mushroom flavor but unfortunately was salty. The dumpling wrapper was a bit thick too. 5. Singaporean Chili Lobster - This was an interesting noodle dish inspired by the popular Singaporean Chili Crab dish. The flavors were there but the noodles weren't my favorite. 6. Bone Kettle Noodles w/ Ginger Seared Chicken and Bone Kettle Noodles w/ Wagyu 'Bakwan' Meatballs - A simple noodle and broth dish but I really enjoyed it! I especially enjoyed the chicken - it was tender and juicy. I don't usually like ginger but the flavor was subtle yet noticeable. The noodles don't get soggy since the servers pour the broth when the dish is served! For dessert, we ordered the Vanilla Passionfruit Panna Cotta, Mango Sticky Rice, and Turon. All were on the sweeter side but the Vanilla Passionfruit Panna Cotta was more tangy, which was refreshing. Since we were celebrating birthdays, they treated us to a Pandan Creme Brulee which turned out to be the table's favorite dessert! I'd love to visit again to try other dishes! read more

Been here plenty of times and tried different dishes on this visit. The Nasi goreng is basically fried rice, kind of bland. Oxtail dumplings is good but the dumpling wrapper itself kept falling apart and super soft (maybe their version is supposed to be like this), I'm more used to the ones where it's chewy and stays together. It seemed pretty over cooked hence causing the wrapper to fall apart. The broth was the best dish. The noodle were super chewy and the broth is amazing. Get it with their fatty brisket because it's super tender. read more
