The samgaejook (samgaetang but jook) - has "medicinal ingredients like ginseng, garlic, and jujube to boost immunity, replenish energy, and fight fatigue." Customer service was excellent!!! The lady who was my server explained me with very detail all I needed about my plate. The restaurant is super clean and ambience was quiet ( Thursday at 4:30pm) I did a spicy Pollack porridge ( they did it mild for me). I heard about this is a comfort food in Korea and I wanted to try. It came with 4 sides and I think, personally, that the porridge and the side dishes complement each other perfectly; resulting in a complete and delicious meal. If you like, you can order more portions of side dishes ( free ) Hot tea was included. The total was $21.28 and the portion is huge (enough for two people). You might think that there are too many carbs in this warm Korean porridge but it is so comforting and worth the carbs! I got the porridge with the seaweed and it is quite unique in my opinion. I really like this place. Came on a Saturday around lunch time. Parking was a little difficult, there were big warning signs in the lot and restaurant door "Don't Park in the Mall", which we almost did, yikes! We ended up parking in one of the metered spots on the street around the corner. Place was quiet and low key. Music playing was very relaxing. Service was very friendly and attentive. Portion sizes were huge and beautifully presented with cute animal faces like bears, rabbits and tigers in the bowls accompanied by colorful condiments and side dishes. Honestly, I thought they looked better than the pictures in the menu. It was my first time having Korean style porrige and our server was kind enough to explain how to eat it. We were told to use the large spoon to transfer the porrige from the larger bowl into the smaller empty bowl and then use the radish water to cool down the hot porrige and add condiments for flavor as needed. DANG. they are expensive for what it is... porridge! But I have to say, the Beef & Mushroom Porridge nourished my soul. #sighitwasgood. Relatively new place, decided to stop by with my family. The place was empty besides one other pair of customers, would suggest going to the korean restaurant next to it; very nice place. My mother is a much bigger critique than I am, what we found out was several of their ingredients were from canned goods such as their tuna. The place is moderately priced and tries to vibe itself as a slightly more upscale Korean restaurant and would be a questionable choice to customers if it was common knowledge. I had the shrimp hot bibimbap. The food itself was actually better than I thought it was going to be. The vegetables were pretty clean/fresh, and the meal itself wasn't that bad. The place is a bit expensive for what you're getting. I hear the Palisades Park Branch closed, and Bonjuk is located next to the two busiest casual korean restaurants, the one directly right of it, and BCD, so I wish it the best of luck. read more

Their porridges/congees are so hearty and perfect for a lot of reasons: when you are sick, about to get sick, feeling sick from a hangover, feeling cold, when you are craving for something soupy, when in the dead of winter, basically all season long. My friend first introduced me to this restaurant by bringing me takeout from there and that's how I fell in love with it. Both dine-in and takeout, the portion is big. We usually end up with leftovers. The congee is thicker than what I have normally and this means the flavors are abundant. It tastes like the broth is cooked with the soften rice for hours.
