I just picked up lunch from Boo Koo. When I opened the box I was really disappointed. This is the first time I have ever taken the time to write a review on Yelp. I live, work and play in Mill Valley and, I try to always support our local businesses. So I looked up Boo Koo up on Yelp and see there are quite a few unsatisfied customers. By writing this I am hoping Boo Koo will wake up and make some changes and, hopefully, stay in Mill Valley. Over the last six months or so I have noticed Boo Koo has started skimping on the protein portions and using more fillers. But today took the cake. I ordered the lime salmon. The piece of fish was thin, as if they filleted 1 piece into 2 and was 3" x 3"...for $12. (I have a pic but do not know how to post it). The rest of the box (standard 8.5"x6") was filler, cabbage and noodle. On top of that, when I ordered my food I had the misfortune of having to deal with miss cranky pants over there. Frankly, unless Miguel is there, the staff is pretty unpleasant. As for all the comments about the taste. It is true, all the flavor is found in the sauces. The food can not stand alone. Though this is true I still had not given up on Boo Koo until now. My boyfriend is a frequent flier but after today I may have to pass the next time he asks if I want to grab a bite at Boo Koo :-( I suggest trying it for yourself but don't go with high expectations. read more

I had dinner here tonight with my dad. It was really nice to see that they had so many vegan options. I got the pad Thai and had their garlic tofu on top of it. They both tasted really great and the portion size was very generous for the price. We didn't have to wait long for the food after we ordered it. The ambiance is nice too. They played what I would call mellow electronic or indie electronic melodies. The lighting was nice and the service was quick. Loved it and will be coming back!!! read more

If you've ever been to Asia then​ you know the delight in stopping at your favorite street food vendor. Boo Koo does that for me. The food is fresh and good and fast and hot. The wait staff is exceptional. So friendly and so attentive. If you're in the mood for Pho or some your favorite Asian sandwich or just want a quick beer. It's well worth the effort. The staff will treat you right. Bravo for a restaurant that knows how to treat their customers. read more

This place is fantastic for what it is... easy, healthy, good & interesting take out food! Friendly service, maybe on the high end of "cheap take out", but it's always been tasty, fresh and such a welcome change from the other overpriced lunch options in the downtown Mill Valley area (other great places would be Avatar's Punjabi Burrito's and Pearl's in my humble opinion). For those who are disgruntled that the food wasn't "authentic" I say this..,If you want authentic Pad Thai or Pho then it's best to go to a Thai or Vietnamese Restaurant. Your first clue that you're about to get something that's more "fusion" or "thai-style/vietnamese-style" and perhaps less traditional, is that this place has several country's cuisine on the menu. Kind of an obvious tip off if you ask me. But, if you're looking for something fresh, fast and tasty to eat while sitting at the square downtown, and you don't mind if it's not a perfect example of traditional cuisine, then this is your place. One of my favorite food places in Marin and esp. Mill Valley. The Green Curry Noodles with Chicken ('CGN' on the menu...) is spectacular. The short Asian guy Miguel is the boss there and and takes good care of his guests. It has a modern setting without all that white table cloth decadence common for Mill Valley. Place is tiny but you always find place outside. Lots of sun in summertime and heating lamps for cool nights. I go there at least every other week. read more

I have eaten here several times and every time the place just isn't clean. They do not wipe the tables down after clearing, or don't clear tables fast enough to keep the atmosphere clean and appetizing. It is restaurant 101 to do this: table where people eat need to cleaned! They need to either hire one more person during rush hours, or learn this lesson. And, the food just isn't that good once you get passed the cleanliness issue. Sometimes you can look past certain things because the food is so good and it is so busy all the time. Pad Thai was watery and very little taste. I have had several different dishes and they all have the same problem. This place doesn't cut it on either point. Won't return. Ever. read more

I was very disappointed with the lunch and ambiance of this restaurant. Asian food is my favorite ethnic food, and this was the worst I have had. My dining partner and I were not able to finish our food because it was so overly sauced. I had a noodle bowl with the peanut sauce and Hoisin Pork. The pork was dry and chewy while the sauce was overwhelming the rest of the ingredients in the bowl. My friend's green curry chicken on noodles tasted as unappetizing as it looked. I can only speak for two dishes that I tried. One was the gado gado which was the absolute worst I've ever tasted (well over 100) and was nearly inedible. The same could be said about the chicken noodle soup which I actually felt was a rip-off as the ingredients were hardly present. After 7 years living in Asia and too many years to mention in the bay area scrounging around Asian restaurants, I can honestly say that if this was served as street food in appropriate locations, they would not survive. read more

I'm sorry, horrible service. My noodles came without the salmon, and the waitress forgot to include my chicken rice bowl in our togo food claiming, "you didn't pay for that." I confronted her and she finally said, "oh, yea, that's right. Sorry!" - what a bunch of bozos...really poor service here...horrible. read more

Oh my. Here is the thing. If an establishment that serves food is not clean, that's a BIG warning sign that all is not well. I'm talking about the dirt. Walls covered in dirt. Paint on the walls completely failing. Base boards gone. Doors in the dining room askew and faded with a used Kelly Moore gallon of paint visible. Silverware and napkin caddies empty on all the tables. The bathroom was filthy. You don't want visuals believe me. I'm in bed sick and can't move. My dish was a salad with noodles that had what seemed to be luke-warm broth from a mop bucket as a base. I've worked in restaurants for years. You have got to keep it clean, or charge accordingly. Now...the chaos. Who is the owner? Where is the "face" of the establishment? What I saw was a sweet well meaning very young employee who had the impossible task of manning the always ringing phone for to go orders AND serving the in-house diners. The two line cooks were pissed and rushing, serving food actually. There was a mob scene. Patrons were lining up receiving incorrect orders and a few verbally berating the employee and others speaking to the line cooks directly. Whoever the owner is? Shame on you. Take a few nights and get your house in order. Clean every inch. Re-paint. Hire people to make things run smoothly then pay them. Ridiculous scene. read more

Terrible. Over priced for food that wasn't even very good. The pho was a sad excuse for flavorless chicken soup. The noodles were salty as could be and so was the coconut soup. The best thing on the menu was their kombucha on tap. The food gave us bad gas. Don't waste your money here. read more

When Charlie Hong Kong announced they would come to Mill Valley, I was thrilled. I've been going to CHK in Santa Cruz since it opened in the late 90's. We ate at the smallish MV location a few times and was so happy to have the Spicy Dan in my neck of the woods. However, when I returned later in 2011, the name changed to Boo Koo and this is where things took a wrong turn. I ordered the Spicy Dan and was told it was called something else now by the cashier. Great, I'll have the Spicy Dan thank you. Then I was told that they were out of vegetables since they served food at a festival that day....ummm, as a vegetarian I was stumped as to what they would actually serve me since the meal is vegetables and noodles. I left totally mystified and disappointed, never to return. If you want the real goods, before the name/ownership change, head to Charlie Hong Kong in Santa Cruz. After a poor first try I figured I would give Boo Koo a second chance, but I found it as disappointing as the first, the service is indifferent if not out right rude, the food is bland, bland, bland, and having travelled extensively in Asia I can say that it is nothing like authentic street food! Food was good and reasonably priced, but the service - terrible! My wife, 8-year old daughter and I arrived around 8:15. At the register was a young woman who gave her name as "Adrianna", who took our order. As it turns out, the food was ready a few minutes later, but "Adrianna" didn't bother to inform us of this, so while my wife and daughter waited outside, I sat for another 25 minutes before asking "Adrianna" how much longer it would be. She asked my name, and then picked up a bag that had been sitting on the counter almost the entire time I had been there. After I had initially placed the order, I had then sat down, almost directly in front of the cash register, and never left. I was rather upset, as it was now close to my daughter's bedtime and she would not have time to eat and get to bed on time. "Adrianna" didn't come remotely close to apologizing, and on top of that lied by claiming she had gone outside to look for me. I had watched the entire time and never once had she gone anywhere to try to look for me. Unless this establishment hires some more competent staff with a better attitude, I will never return. read more

I've had a couple people recommend this place to me so I gave it a try...I ordered the Rice Bowl from the stir-fry section of the menu and chose the green curry chicken to go on it (as recommended on the menu). I got it to go. I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED!!! The container had: jasmine rice on the bottom, shredded chicken (supposedly green curry) on top, stir fried veggies on top of the chicken, and then raw carrots, sprouts, onions on top. Sounds yummy, right?! NOT. It had NO SAUCE to marry all the ingredients together. Therefore, it had NO FLAVOR. A waste of 11 bucks, that's for sure. Why 2 stars instead of 1? The staff were nice and the ambience of the place was cool. The food - not so much. read more

Called half an hour after ordering for delivery because the E-Mail said Takeout instead of Delivery. Come to find out that they have no driver until 5, and that they have a $25 delivery fee, which wasn't on the website. All very amateur. read more

Vegans beware! Even though Boo Koo has several items specifically labeled as vegan, they can't be trusted. A few days ago my husband and I ordered some food to go. I got the coconut soup and the vegan version of the Chinese chicken salad, specifying that I wanted both vegan. After picking the food up and driving home, we were concerned that the meal perhaps had a fish sauce odor. My husband actually called the restaurant to express his concern and was reassured that they remembered our order and it was indeed vegan. Well, I'm not sure about the fish sauce, but when I went to eat my meal, I discovered chunks of chicken in both the salad and the soup! This is completely disgusting and unacceptable for a meal that has specifically been ordered as "vegan". I'm not sure if they're just totally careless about cross-contamination, uneducated about what vegan means, or just don't care about what their customers request. Whatever the reason, I will certainly never be coming back here! I wish I could give them zero stars. read more

I went to Boo Koo knowing there were many negative reviews but I hoped it would be a good Asian since I live nearby and love Asian food. I got a "fresh roll" and I am sorry to say, it was almost ineatable. This is something I have eaten everywhere in the world you can get these usually delicious Vietnamese rolls. The key with these rolls is the rice paper has to be soft and supple. The ones from Boo Koo had the consistency of shoe leather. It isnt that hard to get this right. Do the owners not eat their own food? Are they satisfied with poor quality food? Do they not know any better? Do they assume their customers dont know any better? I suspect they think we dont know and dont care.Too bad. This could be a great place. read more

Several years ago, I came upon this great little restaurant. The flavors were distinct,light, interesting.. One of the best Asian Fusion meals I've ever had. I live an hour away and whenever I was in town,it was my treat to come here. I haven't been in over a year, so I was really happy to be coming back. I don't know if it was a new ownership or a new chef, but the quality was nowhere near the level it was in the past. My green curry dish with chicken had no flavor. It was more like coconut milk with kafir lime flakes. The chicken was like tuna fish cat food.. Maybe it was boiled? Somehow soggy and overcooked to lose all texture.The other two dishes we got were ok. In all, it was not anything I would return to. The waitress was really nice and the place has expanded. I really hope they get back what they have lost because it was really great in the past. read more

We stopped by Charlie Hong Kong last Friday. This was my second time there. Had been there right after they opened. My only complaint after my initial visit was that the drink I had was a little off. Apparently they've gotten the formula right since then because the drinks were outstanding this time, as was the food. Good value for money, and fun atmosphere. greasy, tasteless, and overpriced. we couldn't even finish the rooted red curry: it was mush and not well flavored mush at that. the accompanying rice was totally without flavor. The vegetables might have been boiled. the pad thai noodles were singed and the salmon was not fresh. the summer roll was hardened on the outside from being made several hours before and the sauce was worse than most I have bought at Safeway or Costco. yick! 3 hours later my throat is coated with a greasy slime. stay away! read more

The name change did not do anything for this place - Boo Koo was formerly Charlie Hong Kong. I am a UCSC graduate so I have been to the Santa Cruz Charlie Hong Kong, which I believe is the original. The menus are exactly the same and the execution of the dishes are just as bad here as in Santa Cruz. I have never had any desire to give Charlie Hong Kong another try after my terrible first visit where their popular Green Curry Noodles were actually greasy greasy noodles. However, my mom was looking for a quick lunch and her coworker had recently said the food here was pretty good. I rarely give 1 star ratings but I really cannot think of another eatery I would stray away more from than here!!! We noticed articles outside the eatery naming some of their popular dishes; the pork "Vietnamese" sandwich and the chicken pho. Although they are suppose to be the most popular, they were HORRIBLE! The dishes are not worth the prices at all! You could probably get authentic dishes that are 10 times better for a fraction of the price elsewhere (aka real Vietnamese restaurants where a sandwich only costs $3). The pork "bahn mi" was more like a BBQ sandwich. The pork is covered in hoison sauce but was still completely dry! On the side they give you a skimpy bean sprout and carrot shred salad which is drizzled in spicy mayo. Ew, I could make a better "Asian inspired' salad than this one! So cheap and gross! The only good thing about it was the bread. The chicken pho was even worse!! My mom described it as being like foggy, warm dish water with tons of dry, overcooked chicken......'nuff said, gross!! I don't understand how this place gets so packed during lunch hours. The food is not good, at all! It may possibly be because young adults are prepping the dishes which is a huge turn off too!
