Therefore, it's a good place to refuel after a hike or to stop by if you're in the area but not worth a trip given that you could recreate these dishes at home. They offer a solid meal, but in the grand scheme of things, there are better healthy bowl joints to eat at that offer more unique options for a fairer price.

The inside vibe was great, with tons of people drinking/eating and having a good time. When we got seated, we ended up ordering just a few oysters and a 3pc fish and chips. The oysters were pretty good and fresh, with a great vinaigrette on the side to pair with them. The fish and chips, however, were the obvious stars of the show. The fish were nice and golden, with a very crisp texture, and more importantly large and generous. The fries were nicely seasoned and plentiful. The fish was really tasty (you can choose the type of fish depending on what they have on hand, and some cost extra between $2-$10. We chose the standard option for the day: Rockfish), easily one of the better fish and chips I have had - just an incredibly simple, but well executed dish. While the tartar sauce was a good pairing, the real standout pairing was Hook Fish's own carrot habanero hot sauce with the tartar sauce and the oyster vinaigrette. I have never had something like a carrot based hot sauce, but it really works by contrasting the spiciness of the habanero with a slightly sweet carrot undertone. Strange, but it gave the classic fish and chips a unique twist that sets it apart from the competition. While eating we saw tons of different dishes fly out the kitchen as well, such as poke burritos, large portions of chips and salsa/guacamole, and fish tacos. After the experience we had that day, we will be forsure making another round back to Hook Fish to try some of their other options. Their fish and chips are a must.

Also, the World Cup was on and patrons were enjoying watching the game(s) inside too. If we were to come back, I would def sit outside with a group on a nice day. Outside there was corn hole and lotsa tables to enjoy a casual meal and vibes. Our party ordered a round of margaritas, and menu standouts included the burger, fried chicken sandwich (the paprika aioli is stellar), the kale salad (topped with chickpeas, quinoa, walnuts, and more), grilled cheeses for the kiddos, and the "Burning Love" pizza. There's a little bit of something for everyone on the menu here, and everything was so fresh, comforting, and just elevated. The meat in the burger was something to highlight, and I loved the thick cut fries. I would try a pizza on the next trip like the "Swim Club" served with Calabrian chile honey, or the "Peach Pie" because why not, it's summer! They were nice and crispy on the outside but super soft on the inside, almost like mashed potatoes. The Mad River Pizza was decent but not the best. Crust was nice and crispy, but the sauce was too wet, so all of the toppings slid right off and the mushroom almost tasted dirty. Luckily everything else on the pizza tasted great to help mask that. We also ordered a few drinks. We got the Paloma and the Aperol Spritz. Both were pretty delicious and perfect for the summer day.

While the chips & dip were good, they're something you can find elsewhere, so not necessarily a standout. Everything else, though? OUTSTANDING! The CN burger sliders were also a hit--we had one each and they were so yummy that next time my husband is already planning on getting two. The drinks were on point. The espresso martinis absolutely fueled our afternoon in the best way, and we also tried the creamsicle cocktail and the shrimp Za'atar from the regular menu--both were super delicious in their own way. Chicken was marinated very nicely and wasn't too dry. - Bistec encebollado: ordered the Large plate also which came with the same as above. The $14.99 sandwich was pre-cut and full of thick pieces of steak. There was a ton of arugula and pickled red onion. This was a very good homemade tasting sandwich of great quality. The market itself is pretty low key, very dense and small. It has everything you need but it doesn't have the produce that I would normally get at a Whole Foods or Good Earth. The service was good and it was very convenient to go to. We will definitely come back to get sandwiches here whenever we have a picnic nearby. It was convenient. The redwood park nearby did not disappoint.
