I love this place! From the moment you walk in, you feel like you're in the old Texas Wild West with the authentic period tin ceiling and the long bar. You can actually enter through the next door Stockyards Hotel lobby; just walk into the lobby and go to the left, walk towards the back and enter through the double doors. I really enjoyed my lunch sitting on a tooled leather stool at the bar by myself, and they even have real saddles if you want to sit on one of those. The server/bartender was so nice and she was very patient with me as it was my first time ordering here. I had the ribs plate which was fantastic with a corn cob and french fries. They feature a local craft beer called "Buffalo Butt Beer" which is why behind the bar there's a giant stuffed rear end of a buffalo. The server explained this to me. I think it must get crowded in here, but I didn't have a problem getting a spot to eat at the bar on a busy Sunday right after the rodeo. But you probably should make a reservation if you want a table. Don't miss the special metal sink near the restrooms at the back that is just for washing your hands after eating ribs! I highly recommend this place as the Stockyards Hotel itself where the restaurant and bar is located is a historic building and is actually the hotel where the outlaws Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow stayed in 1934. And as it looks like this saloon has been around for around 100 years, maybe Bonnie and Clyde had a drink at this bar as well. read more

Really cool bar in the stockyards. Lots to look at and I enjoyed my beer. So why the three stars? First of all I work behind a bar. I have no problem having fun behind the bar and even trying to get as big of a tip as I can. When we were there our bartender was working really hard to get these business men to tip her and her fellow bartender really big. Being in the business I listened. She suggested to them that they tip her 100%, I believe their bill was $435. I saw they laid out $100 cash for the tip. In my world a pretty decent tip. The bartender went on and on that they should give her a bigger tip. She reduced her demands to $200 for herself and $100 for the other bartender. I believe she ended up with $100 cash. Like I said I don't mind a little bit of fun, however after 30 plus minutes it just became obnoxious. I don't want to feel like I'm in a strip club with girls trying to hustle tips! read more

At the Ft Worth Stockyards in Texas. Stopped in at Booger Reds Saloon. We sat at the bar for lunch. They have some saddles for seats. Great Saloon atmosphere. Just a good old place to eat, drink and get that Cowboy feeling. Jeanette was our bartender.... what a pleasant young lady. Full of smiles with that Texan accent!! Great service. Alright so, Booger Red's is "named in honor of the legendary Texas bronc-busting champion Samuel Thomas Privett (1858-1926)." But I still don't know WHY it's called "Booger Red's" specifically.. I guess that was Samuel TP's nickname? But why? Let me go google... Okay I'm back and I sort of regret looking further into this. The story of Booger Red is tragic! What the heck... So Sammy TP was called Red since he was a child because he had red hair. Got that half of his nickname out of the way. He was the greatest "bronco breaker" (poor wild horses) of all time and he's credited with originating the modern day rodeo (ugh not a fan) -- anyway, he advertised himself thusly: "Come and see him ride, the ugliest man dead or alive, Booger Red!" Why was he so ugly, you ask? Because as children of confederate soldiers often did, 12 year old Sammy and his bff were playing with gunpowder on Christmas Day, stuffing a dead tree with it to make fireworks. Sadly the gunpowder exploded early, throwing Sammy 20 feet through the air and killing his poor friend! Sammy lived, but he was gravely injured in the explosion. Legend has it (honestly I've no idea how accurate this story is, so legend has it) that a neighbor kid saw Sammy being carried to the hospital, took one look at his mutilated little face and cried out, "gee, but Red sure is boogered up now!" And apparently "boogered" is an adjective meaning crippled, maimed, or disfigured. Who knew? So poor Sammy was blind in the hospital for six months and while he fully recovered, he was very very disfigured. He basically had no more eyes, nose, or mouth, just little holes.... He was described as looking like "a pumpkin with bullet holes for eyes." So sad! Why did this have to happen?! Anyway, Sammy's family would tease him and call him "Booger Red" after that one rude neighbor kid started it.. I guess the nickname made Sammy laugh, so there you have it. This saloon is named after him! He never stopped breaking broncos and went on to become super famous for it. Booger Red's is right between H3 Ranch and The Stockyards Hotel. It's a long and narrow saloon lined with an enormous bar and giant stools, and some of the stools are saddles. Fun. This saloon is probably the most classic looking and feeling "Wild West saloon" in the stockyards district. It's thoroughly decked out in all things cowboy from the floors to the wall-mounted animals to the paintings of dance hall girls to the vintage pulley fan system lazily circulating air far above your hat hook. Behind the bar is an enormous mounted buffalo butt... lucky for you I'll give you the short story this time: the Hunter brothers (restaurant next door) hunted buffalo and said the only thing that got them through those long hot days of looking at buffalo butts was an ice cold beer. And that's that! Booger Red's is famous for its Buffalo Butt Beer which is crafted in small batches and always served in a bottle, in an ice bucket. You gotta try it at least once. And of course you can order food from H3 Ranch's menu; ribs, steaks, nachos, spit-roasted pig, fried catfish, lots more. It's fun here. It feels like you're on a the set of a western, so just lean into it and spend some time bar-side with your boots up. read more

This was our first time at the Stockyards in over ten years and we were very excited about having lunch at Booger Red's. Unfortunately, we were met with terrible service. We sat at the bar while waiting for a table. We noticed after ordering drinks that and my mother's barstool was falling apart. So much so that a strip of leather was hanging off with sharp tacks sticking out. It was dangerous. When we told the bartender he bluntly said he didn't have anything else to sit on and he could take it away or she could sit and risk it. No apologies and no worries about her safety. The female bartender was very sweet and although she was busy, she was attentive and suggested some specialty drinks. They were yummy! The hosts were some of the most rude young ladies I have ever come in contact with. I was really surprised at how inhospitable and rude they were for such an iconic location in Texas. No Texas hospitality at this host stand! WOOF. Luckily our experience was somewhat saved by the quality of food. My boyfriend ordered the chicken fried steak and I got a brisket barbecue sandwich. Both were delicious! I hope they have friendlier staff working the next time we go in for a meal. It's an awesome environment with a lot of things to look at in the heart of the stockyards. An entertaining, casual spot in the Stockyards with a little store where you can purchase slngshots, sit at a bull seat at the bar, and imbibe huge drinks. Regrettably the food leaves much to be desired. The corn on the cob was overcooked and bland, the side of spinach was more like a side of ranch, and the fish was tough from overcooking. I can't get over the giant portion sizes. This is not a place to go for healthy eats. But the food is cheap here. Good for a group. Our table of seven with six ordering steak dishes, a few appetizers and drinks came out to only $280. Yay Texas prices! read more

Every third bar stool is a saddle- not much for comfort but they do make a good photo op. They have a couple fruit infused tequilas- which I highly recommend! I got a margarita with the mango infused tequila and it was delicious- not too sweet, not too tart. And no burning tequila. I got the pulled pork sandwich and my friend the burger- both were delicious- and the fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned. They have saddles for bar stools, animals all over the walls, really cool ceiling fans, and lots of neat wall decor. They are known for their margaritas but they also have some local micros. Best meal of our trip to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. My husband noticed the roaring fire as we turned down Exchange Street to find parking for our visit to the Stockyards. When we decided it was time to grab a bite to eat, he suggested we check it out. Glad we did! We decided to go a little on the light side instead of full entrees. I had the burnt ends with a side of sauteed spinach. He, of course, went with the ribs, but from the appetizers section of the menu. And I think he may have gotten a side of fries. The burnt ends practically melted in my mouth. They had just the right amount of bbq sauce so it enhanced the flavor instead of burying it. The spinach, which was covered (not smothered) inthe some type of cheese sauceand and a sprinkling of pine nuts, was excellent. Hubby loved his ribs and sucked the bones clean, which didn't seem hard to do as the meat fell right off. I had asked if they had cornbread, but was told no, only regular bread, which our server did bring to us. I couldn't stop eating it. Crusty outside and warm soft inside. Even now I want some. I don't have usually review beverages because wewere don't really drink and non-alcoholic options are usually pretty limited. But our server mentioned strawberry lemonade, so I decided to try it. BEST STRAWBERRY LEMONADE EVER! I ordered a 2nd and she told me it wasn't free refills, and I said that was fine because it was well worth the price. We went here on accident and it was amazing! THIS IS THE PLACE TO DRINK IN TEXAS! We go to the Dallas Cowboys Stadium every year to see a game and it is now a tradition to stop here to drink. We are fans of tequila and their selection of tequila is HUGE! They make their own pepper margarita (Anita Rita) that is sooooooo good! The bartenders are always well educated and extremely helpful. The person who sat us down was one of the rudest people I have ever met, they wanted to sit us down in the back of the restaurant and when we asked to be changed to the front the lady got angry and reluctantly gave us another table in the middle of the hall. When we asked her if she could give us one that was not in the hallway she became more angry, she refused to give us her name or another table and was very rude when we talked to her. We just left, it was a disgusting place because of the way we were treated. I recommend it 100% if you are looking to be treated rudely. read more

Had a friend from out of town come in and went to Stock exchange. Boogers was a place I have not yet ever been to so we decided to Check it out for lunch. We stood at host stand for probably over a min and was ignored by a few staff. Finally we get sat. Our server was also the bartender. She was very short with her words and not friendly at all. She made the experience not good. She wasn't busy by any means. When the food came it was less than mediocre. I advise don't get the chicken BLT wrap. Its very dry and tasteless. This is really a fun place to sit and have a drink when in the Stockyard District. You have the campy, but cool cowboy motif including saddle barstools every third seat at the bar. The bartenders are super friendly. The traditional margarita is an in-depth fresh concoction. Although some might find it expensive $9, it is large and might be the best margarita we have had from Mexico to these 48 contiguous United States. read more
