First time this past weekend and went for lunch. On way in, we heard someone say it was the best burger they'd ever had, so we were really optimistic. The pimento cheese and chip appetizer was pretty good, but no one in our party of 4 was impressed with their burgers--not a single person even finished it. The sides are extra charge, but three of us went for it--one truffle fries, one sweet potato fries, and one onion rings. Again, not good and none of us barely even touched them after a bite or two--the fries were cold and soggy when they were served! Then when the server came to take payment, she *very* quickly showed me the bill on the device and immediately swiped to go to the total and tip pages. She had been friendly, so I added a 20% tip. She asked if I wanted a receipt and I did, bc now that I was thinking about it the total seemed high. She went away to get it and when she brought it back, she had charged us for 3 milkshakes we didn't order or get. When I brought it to her attention she credited me the price of the milkshakes and tax, ~$27. When I asked about credit for the 20% tip on the milkshakes, she balked!! I should have pushed but at this point I was so annoyed I walked away. Not sure if this was some scam to get better tips, but talk about leaving a bad taste in my mouth!! This is definitely the best restaurant in the downtown area (in my humble opinion). Superb service, pleasant hosts and waiter[tresses], and EXCELLENT food. I have a gluten allergy and was unsure if there be much of an option. They do not have a gluten free bun but they do offer your burger option on top a salad. What a yummy option to my delicious burger. The burger was perfectly cooked by my request to have it with pink. My only regret was that I didn't have room for a Bailey's milkshake. read more

Let me start by saying the food was very good. What was not good was our waitress, or the fact that food clearly labeled "spicy" on the menu was not at all spicy. Both my boyfriend and I ordered different burgers that were supposed to be spicy, and they weren't at all. They were very tasty though. The waitress however was kind of rude, and took literally 30 minutes to get us our check as we were done. She also never checked on us after our food was delivered, and she wasn't even the one to deliver it. All in all, try at your own risk but do not expect good service or spicy burgers. read more

Fantastic burger, it was juciy, cooked perfectly, tasted amazing. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars was because of the service I received while there. The waitress was great, but she had way too many tables, and she was running the bar. She needed help bad, and there were plenty of wait staff just standing around doing nothing while that poor girl was running around like crazy. The reason this joint got rated a four star was because their address is something f-ed up. If you use your navigation devices to find it; then they'll put you in the middle of 13th street-which is NOT where Bootleggers is. They are downtown on Commerce St.! Seriously, how do you f*** that one up? Thirteenth and Commerce aren't even in the same ballpark. I went their with family and ordered a couple burgers. The burgers were better than Red Robins (for far cheaper) and just as good as Applebee's. Their menu needs some work. It lacks a lot of burger options, so we had to build our burgers. For the food amount and the quality the price is just a little too high but it'll beat $60 any day! It's got good atmosphere and people tend to go from there to water dog afterwards for their poison fix. read more

My girl friend and I go here every other weekend almost. We've had pleasant experiences till tonight. The waiter didn't even touch our table except to take the order and give us our food. Awesome restaurant. I have sampled from the menu a few things & everything was absolutely delicious. Our large table shared the Hot Lump Crab & Artichoke Dip & the Truffle & Parmesan Fries. We all took turns sharing our dinner & I can testify to how good the Port Wine Blue Cheese burger, Truffle Love burger, Retro-Style Grilled Chicken Club & Battered Cod sandwiches are. I wouldn't really think to order a chicken club or cod sandwich but I would love to have a full sandwich of each of those they were so good. Looking forward to coming back. read more

Cool place! We started with the Artichoke dip, enjoyed that! We love a good burger, so that's what we ordered. I ordered just a plain jane burger, no fixings, and med rare. Came out pretty well done. The flavor was good though and I don't like to send food back, so I just ate it. My husband got one with bacon and cheese and some other toppings, ordered med rare and his was also almost well done. He enjoyed the flavor, but we both agreed we'd had better burgers before. The service was excellent and the location and views are awesome. Not sure we'll go back, but we wouldn't be opposed if others wanted to meet up there, we could then give it another try. read more

What a great setup. Lynchburg needs more places like this - new and nice. The concept is awesome. The food is amazing. But the service is horrific. We got our apps before our drinks. It took over 15 minutes - and we were in the bar area. Then we got seated at our table and ordered a second round of drinks I had to go remind her that we ordered drinks 15 minutes ago. Pros: Not an Outback. Not a chilis. It's hard to find a unique place to eat in Lynchburg and this is one. They have a large selection of bourbon, whiskey, etc. and a decent selection of beer. Burgers are good. Cons: Way too bright. The decor is really nice, but with the lights on so bright it feels awkward like its last call and they're trying to close. If it was a little dimmer it would be a much more comfortable atmosphere. read more

So I ate here with a friend last week to give it a chance and see what all the hype was over. The server took quite some time greeting us and forgot both of our drink orders (hot tea and a beer). We ordered the grilled cheese with bacon and caramelized onions and added fries. For a slow week night, our food took forever. When we received our food, I had less than half of the fries my friend had (less than a handful) and the grilled cheese was definitely lacking flavor (heavy on the hard toast and light on the ingredients). I hate to say it, but if their burgers are the only thing happening for them - you'd be better off at Beer 88 and save your money. I'm not one to leave reviews but for all the time and money invested in putting together this new restaurant, they need some honest feedback. read more

Ate there this past week with 2 colleagues. Not sure how they found it, but so glad they did. We shared an order of onion rings - very crisp, homemade, with yummy dipping sauce. I also ordered a beer, colleague 1 had a mixed drink and other colleague had a different type of beer. Beer selection was good and mixed drink selextion was great. I ordered the French Onion burger with tater tots. One of the best burgers I have ever had. Really good quality beef, nice bun, not too many things to get in the way of the beef flavor. Went in the afternoon of Father's Day. Service was a slow seeing by the time we got there it was clearing out. Didn't get our appetizer and the fries were very greasy. Read all the revues and gave it a try. Parking is an issue, very limited even if you park down the hill from the bluff. If you park down below there are many steps to climb to get to the door. Handicapped folks need to be dropped off up top. Restaurant and bar area were very crowded early Saturday evening. We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table, wait time increased to over an hour for folks who came in after us. No room at the bar either. The bar area and the restaurant area are quite small thus neither side works well for large crowds. Burgers were good, not great. Onion rings were overcooked, not much flavor. Beer selection was good. Sever was inexperienced but very nice and tried her best. Kitchen appeared overwhelmed so the meal was slow coming out. All in all not bad, but not great. Not worth an hour wait for a burger and be crammed into small tables that are very close together. Atmosphere is very loud. read more

Came in expecting unique burger options, choice of select bourbons and delicious beer. What we got: burgers that sounded good but were lacking on execution and centered around the most basic of ground beef burger lacking any flavor. Bourbon choice was ok at best with only one truly specialty bottle available. Beer had probably the best selection from their "staple items". Service was also very poor for a 2pm lunch, however I believe it was due to lack of staff. It appeared that there was only one waitress covering the restaurant, while we had five food runners. This place was amazing! Went yesterday and was pleased with everything from the beer choice that the waiter suggested to the fried Oreos for dessert. I got the burger with pimento cheese can't remember the name and onion rings. Burger cooked perfect (medium as i asked for) and onion rings were great I couldn't even finish them all. Then my friend got the fried Oreos they are the devil lol so damn good. I might take away half s star we got there around 6 still had a 45 min wait to be prepared for that but after eating that yummy food I decided it was worth it.
