To my fellow millennials: remember the cooking show Two Hot Tamales? This is their restaurant! I've been coming to Border Grill for years, practically since they opened. After a recent mediocre meal, I was hesitant to come back but I'm so glad I did. Everything this time was absolutely delicious! One of my favorites was the tuna tiradito with an amazingly fragrant yuzu and coconut leche de tigre sauce that was out of this world. The Seafood enchiladas had a creamy bisque-like sauce which was a fun twist. It was a busy Friday lunch but my server Adrienne was attentive and helpful and Bree is the coolest and best manager in the industry. We decided to have a late lunch and to our surprise a lot of full service restaurants were closed. We walked a long way to find this place, with a view of the Mandalay pool if eating outside. We ate inside, no waiting. I wanted a salad and there was only one kind available. I figured I could not miss with a Caesar salad, but it sure was different. It had a gritty taste, like eating sand. The server said they could prepare it again but I was full from the guacamole, salsa and chips. The chips were extra salty and a little oily and the guacamole and salsa were quite spicy, more than my usual taste. The dining area was very modern and our server was quite nice. I did enjoy my iced tea which I received a few refills of as the food was salty and spicy. I would try it again but maybe try something else. read more

A good addition to the lineup for foods available right at the Mandalay Bay conventions for some light lunch or a pick me up from some day drinking. It's casual and lax and it was a pretty busy Thursday lunch rush but we were seated timely, and we were a large party, and the staff really took care of our table well. Everything on the menu was fantastic, great choices. The choices of protein are a bit upscale like the short rib enchiladas, which were delicious, and grilled skirt steak. Food- ordered guacamole and salsa appetizer that never came. We ordered the guajillo chicken tacos and chile relleno. Tacos were dry, missing the salsa, side of rice was crunchy dry. I wouldn't really call it a side, it was more of a garnish so whatever. Chile relleno was good, same story with those rice and beans. Food came quickly. Ordered the tropical colada and it was about 4 oz of liquid, mostly ice in a tiny juice glass. Usually drinks are stronger in small glasses, no dice. It was just pina colada mix. Service - the two waiters working the patio were friendly but drinks and refills took a while. Felt like they didn't talk to each other so stuff was missed and we were skipped over. We asked both for our check and still waited 15 minutes after we were done eating. So disappointed, it was my 40th birthday lunch. read more

We had a reservation and we were seated right away. Our server had looked at the reservation before greeting us and asked whose birthday we were celebrating. My husband's birthday is in a few days and I'll be away, so we were celebrating early. Our server brought him a sundae with fresh berries and a salted chocolate chip cookie. Looked like maldon salt and it was delicious. To start, we had guacamole. It was a small portion, compared to what we're used to. It was creamy. The trio of salsas were good too. My husband liked the shrimp tacos and his friend enjoyed the trio of enchiladas. The melted cheese on the shrimp tacos was a nice surprise. Our friend was happy that they were three different enchiladas. I ate so many chips that I was very full and didn't eat all the lamb chops. Rookie move. The lamb chops were very good. They were nice and fatty. We also got a side of brussel sprouts. The sprouts were shaved and roasted with red bell pepper and chorizo. It was very tasty, but felt like a full meal. I would come back and skip the guac, and try not to eat all the chips. I probably ate a full basket. Instead, I'd save room for the entree. Service was nice, except when we were checking out. Even though this buffet is farther down the on one end of the strip at Mandalay Bay, it is a tried a true place to eat for unlimited small plates. Over the years, the quality has remained consistently high and prices reasonable at under $50 per person. Literally almost everything is delicious here but I will just highlight two of my favorite items. The deviled eggs here are so unique. The base of the eggs are pickled and come out a gorgeous hue of pink. The egg center is beautifully piped and smooth to eat. The pepper paste has a nice depth to it. It is only slightly spicy with hints of fruit and chocolate. And the cute little pepper pearls add little pops of interest without overwhelming everything else. The salmon avocado toast is so well balanced. The salmon isn't fishy at all, with a hint of citrus, and is the perfect thickness. The avocado and cream cheese add a little creaminess. The capers, onion, and bread all add a bite and bring balance to the dish. It is just a really nice and bright addition to what can be traditionally heavy brunch items. Service was great. The server refilled drinks without needing prompting. And he checked on us often to put in additional orders and clean the table. It was a little hot in the corner of the outside seating since the sun was fully out. But not much can be done about that. Overall, we had over a dozen people eating but he did a wonderful job of balancing our needs. If I were to only stay on the strip, Border Grill would always be worth a visit. Again the food is delicious, the pricing reasonable, and I like the seating layout. You never feel like you are forgotten in a sea of dirty plates and tables often found at other buffets. Everything pictured is gluten free! I have never gone into a Mexican restaurant and felt completely at ease about my celiac disease. This restaurant had so many gluten free options and knows where the tortillas are made but wanted to make sure they can never guarantee on vendors end. I must say all of the food was incredibly delicious and I was in heaven eating the taquitos and the flourless chocolate cake with almond ice cream! Went here after an Aces game at the Michelob Arena. They took our party in since we RSVP for 9:30pm, but just know that orders must be placed by 10pm for the kitchen! Our table got their own dishes so I can only speak to me and my partners dishes. I had the brisket taquitos wc came with some consome as typical, and it did the job. Nothing too crazy but it was reasonably priced for Vegas strip standards. My partner had the ceviche and it was served on a pretty substantial tostada and was super refreshing. The pork belly in the pozole paired nicely with the fundito when wrapped in the perfectly executed flour tortilla. Delish! Birria taquitos were tender, flavorful, and filling. The standout salsa of the trio was the smoky chipotle. The others were good, but a bit tart for my taste. The chips were piping hot, perfectly crispy not greasy. Definitely didn't expect to be as impressed as we were with this place! We got to sit on the cutest outdoor patio overlooking Mandalay Bay's pools. It was shaded and not too crowded. Food-wise, to start, the classic guacamole was incredible and their chips are so so good. Then the al pastor tacos were sensational (pineapple salsa and pineapple-infused tortillas: yum!) and the wagyu beef barbacoa tacos were also so good (the purple cauliflower and the tender meat!). The "delicioso arándano" mocktail was fresh and light. The blood orange lemonade was tangy and bright and definitely lived up to its name as well. We had the blackberry mazapan cobbler for dessert, which was also so so good. Our server's name was John, and he was personable, knew the menu well, and very attentive to details. The ladies are always open to try something new with me--or in this case, somewhere new! Pool day at Mandalay Bay led us to a spontaneous Mexican lunch, and it did not disappoint. The inside of the restaurant was dim and lovely, but we couldn't resist the sunshine and opted for the patio with a great view of the pool area. Our server was amazing--friendly, attentive, and made sure everything about our visit was delightful. It was a windy day, and he kept checking on us, but we decided to stick it out and enjoy the breeze. We each ordered tacos: I went for a mix (everything but the steak), and my friend had the steak trio. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth delicious, and those fresh tortilla shells were everything. The guacamole of the month was to die for--sweet from the pineapple, with a perfect kick from the pepper flakes. We had such a great time, and everything was absolutely delicious. So i have only had the brunch menu here. Its become an ongoing event every few months. This is "up scale" ish mexican food and their brunch menu is "mini plates" of a variety of items you can order. This includes tacos, steak and eggs, tamales, fried chicken, chilaquiles, and the list goes on. Its not the biggest menu on the planet but they have a bit of everything. The service is always friendly and efficient and if you come with big groups you can ask for "family style" portions where they will just bring a big plate of the food. The cocktails are always solid here and its just a casual eating feel with good quality food.  Definitely give it a shot! read more

Came here not expecting much since CA has amazing mexican food. Well the green sauce here is so flavorful- like no other and it was absolutely amazing!! It smelled good and tasted even better! I was pleasantly surprised Got the skirt steak as it came with a side of cucumber salad (was trying to be healthy). Well the meal also came with a home made tortilla that I had to try and wow it was warm and freshly made- also absolutely delicious!! The steak was a tad chewy but the green sauce made everything amazing! Also tried the mezcal drink with a rim of full of tajin and that was good! They make great drinks here! DO NOT order their so-called Ribeye steak! I'm warning you now--this place tried to pass off a chewy, tendon-laced chuck cut as a premium ribeye. I took one bite and nearly choked! It was like chewing bubble gum made of sinew. Disgusting. You don't expect to wrestle with your food like it's a leather belt when you're ordering ribeye, the king of cuts. And the nerve--the manager, Herly, had the audacity to stand there and tell me that chewy mess was ribeye. Absolutely ridiculous. Either they don't know what they're serving, or they think their customers are clueless enough to swallow anything they plate up. It looked good but not tasty at all. I couldn't taste and seasonings other than it was pretty salty. My friend ordered the enchiladas and wasn't a fan. The portions were tiny for what you pay for. When you consider all the choices there are to eat inside a hotel like this, this one falls on the slightly better side of dining options. It's all about the Mexican food experience here. Let's begin with some chips and guacamole. The guacamole is an add-on to this starter otherwise you get three salsas to dip into - a mild, medium, and tangy. All four were decent. The guacamole is a bit spicier and saltier than you might expect. The other three were ok. For the entree I chose the enchiladas. You can mix and match from a list of five. I picked the short ribs, seafood, and chicken. The seafood was the best. A few shrimp accompanied by lettuce and cheese. The chicken and rib ones don't give you much protein. There's enough here to fill you up. The other entree was tacos. Again you get three choices to mix and match out of five. The cauliflower is the best here. Drinks were the best part here. Located in the Mandalay Bay resort, steps away if you're checking out The Bob Marley Tribute show or Michael Jackson's One. CONS: A bit more expensive than I expected, but worth it. Located in Mandalay Bay Resort, we ate here because I had seen the owners/chef's on Top Chef. We made a reservation for Saturday morning brunch. We had a slight wait to be seated but was less than 10 minutes. This brunch is all you can eat for around $48 and you select your items from the brunch menu - 3 or 4 at a time recommended - and the waitress/food runners bring the items to you. There is a variety of options and I loved 90% of them. So delicious!! Too many to describe so I will highlight our favorites. The salmon toast - absolutely my favorite. If you think you won't like it - which I was sceptical because I don't like lox - please try this. I had several, in fact, I had more of these than anything else. They are small bite size toasts but pack a punch of flavor. Steak and eggs - wonderful. Churro donut holes - cinnamon sugar goodness. Breakfast taco's - yes please. Service was friendly and attentive as they could be with a full house. The pacing between orders varied from a long wait to perfect timing. They took our drink order and promptly delivered drinks, but after waiting for food, which took approximately 30 minutes, they did not refill our drinks (soda, draft beer, and water) and forgot to bring a dessert menu after we asked. In fact, the waitress only checked on our table 3 times in over an hour. The most disappointing part of the meal was the $29 Chicken Poblano Enchiladas were actually small chicken taquitos! They were exactly the same size as the $15 taquito appetizer. The kid's menu $12 tomato soup with a $5 side grilled cheese sandwich, beans, and rice and beans was enough food for a full grown adult. Overall just an underwhelming and terrible experience and disappointing given it was a Birthday celebration . The location was far away from the action and the lobby and towards the convention center area at the Mandalay. The appetizer queso fundido and chips and salsas was quite delicious and perhaps the only things worth eating there. The plantain empanadas were too sweet and tasteless like baby food or some purée that came out of a gerber jar. The guac was average nothing special. Street corn a below average hash and again tasteless mish mash pile of chopped up corn n excessive crema. ( How you can screw up sweet corn is beyond as its delish with minimal intervention - a simple lime juice sprinkle n chile powder cilantro, or butter and salt.) Service wasn't great either with one guy who talked a lot running between tables who was trying to be helpful. It was after 9 pm weekday and wasn't packed just a few diners. The complementary dessert was again a pile of some supposedly home made soggy cookie that crumbled beyond recognition and ice cream all piled in a messy layer or like it was scooped up off the floor. (your middle schooler would serve better dessert ) not what you expect in a restaurant! Something didn't feel right about this restaurant maybe that day or they have a knack for piling up assorted food on a plate n decorating with useless crema A disappointing meal overall when we literally have hundreds of choices in sin city. We booked it as it was in house for a post show dinner and the menu seemed interesting. There wasn't much of an ambiance to the place perhaps it looked and felt like one of your airport or mall restaurants that you walk by and then come back to sit down at coz they have table service. My friends and I needed a place to have drinks and some food before our concert and this seemed like a good place to start our evening. We made reservations to make sure we could get a table and good thing we did because it was starting to get busy. Mike was our waiter and quick to get our drink order in. Food was ordered after our first round and our plate of tortillas chips and salsa arrived shortly after. Enchiladas, rice, beans and tacos came out and we were ready to dig in. My favorite was the Al Pastor, nicely seasoned and tasted so good. This restaurant is definitely a place where people can get together and enjoy some conversation and enjoy some good food. Amazing waiter!! Forgot his name (sorry) but had a distinct mustache you could not forget! First and foremost, go for bottomless drinks! Micheladas, Bloody Mary's, and/or Mimosas with quite a few fruit options. Our waiter kept tabs on our Mimosa flavors and made sure we sampled each!! Why pick one entree when you can have the entire menu! Long list of brunch specialties served tapas style if you opt for the all you can eat option. We made sure to sample every dish. I wanted to take a moment to highlight our incredible experience with Borders. They truly went above and beyond in taking care of my team. After running into issues with our reservation at another restaurant--where we were unfortunately met with little flexibility--I called Borders in a bit of a scramble, hoping they could accommodate a party of 12 during peak service hours. Without hesitation, their team jumped into action and found a way to make it work on the fly. The hosts working on Tuesday evening were incredibly quick, organized, and genuinely embodied what true hospitality should look like. From the moment we arrived, everything was seamless. The service was impeccable--our drinks were consistently refilled without delay, the food came out promptly, and every dish was absolutely delicious. What could have easily turned into a stressful and disappointing evening was completely turned around thanks to this amazing team. Great contemporary Mexican cuisine tucked inside the Mandalay Bay near the Convention Center. Fast service with good food options so a good choice when you are in a hurry, or not - their drink menus are also great for spending more time relaxing here, if you have time. Our waitress told us their cuisine is modern Mexican with a fusion twist - we agree and like the slightly different flavors from the more traditional Mexican restaurants. I find it interesting and refreshing. Love their location far away from the casinos. My friend and I (both longtime locals) have been coming here since we accidentally discovered it in 2019. We genuinely love the Border Brunch, even though the selections have been shrinking in the last year or so. Nevertheless, we've still been going back, even occasionally enduring $30-$40 parking fees during special events. We love the balcony seating but on the last visit we were told it wasn't available, which was fine, we sat in the lower restaurant area instead. The balcony again wasn't available on our recent visit so we followed the hostess downstairs to the lower level. She led us to a second hostess who again confirmed our reservation and passed us off to yet a third hostess who ushered us to a crowded, noisy, windowless room with about a dozen tables. We asked if we could be seated at one of a handful of vacant tables near the windows but were told they were reserved for a large party and were told we could wait ("It'll be a minute") for other window seating when it becomes available. One became available rather quickly and hostess #3 brought to a table adjacent to a party of eight and a young family with two small children. My friend was unsure on which side of the table she wanted to sit and hostess #3 made a silent gesture behind her back implying "Make up your mind, I'm busy here." We sat down and the server came over promptly and took our orders (he was honestly the best part of the visit). As we waited for the food, the children at the adjacent table became increasingly unruly - screaming, fighting, even brandishing knives and forks at each other like toy weapons. The adults disregarded them apart from mild warnings, they were more intent on watching their phones. As we waited for the first brunch course, the children became louder and more distracting, and their food hadn't even arrived yet. When it became obvious that this wasn't going to be a pleasant experience, we decided to leave, a first for us at BG. We explained everything to the really nice server, who offered to move us, but by then we had had enough. We were sad to miss the Avocado Salmon Toast, Chilaquiles and Brandon's awesome lattes.
