I visited Cañonita, located inside The Venetian Resort Las Vegas, and had a very pleasant experience. It's a cozy, charming spot with an atmosphere that transports you and reminds you of Venice. It's truly impressive what Las Vegas can recreate, beautiful corners of the world with incredible attention to detail that make you feel like you're somewhere else. The service was excellent from the moment we arrived. I had a reservation, and everything flowed smoothly and efficiently, which is always appreciated. The food was very good overall. I tried several dishes, and while some were a bit too spicy for my taste, the flavors were great. I did try to request some items without spice, but that wasn't always possible. The margaritas were just okay--not bad, but not particularly memorable either. I wouldn't say they're among the best I've had. The tacos were definitely the highlight, especially the pork carnitas, absolutely delicious and highly recommended! Located on the canal in the Venetian Grand Canal shops, this little restaurant has amazing ambiance, but there is a spacing issue with the tables. They have too many tables for the real estate of the restaurant and it feels less quaint and special, and more feed bag. The menu is ok - a bit eclectic. My husband ordered flautas and I got a crab cake and chips and salsa. The chips and salsa are awesome. Super yum. The flautas were ok, a little overcooked in the edges. The crab cake smelled and looked like cat food. It wasn't good. They also only have Pepsi, Diet Pepsi & Starry. That's it. The busser cleaned a table with a rag/towel and then reset the silverware without washing hands or anything. It was disturbing. The staff is nice, and the view is lovely. Great spot that was easy to get into in a bust Super Bowl weekend. It's located in the center of all the shopping action and you can watch the gondolas go by if you sit in they'd " patio" area. They had a nice brunch menu and the regular menu had a few things I could easily modify to make vegan. Our server was super conscientious about food allergies and restrictions. Just wanted a nice but reasonable sit down restaurant to eat and res our legs from a long day of walking. Got the ships and salsa and added guacamole. Which came out to $18 which is pretty expensive if you ask me. But this delicious cup of pozole was only $9. Came to Cañonita (Spanish for small canon), for an after-show treat, and became a HUGE FAN. The eatery is adjacent to the Venetian indoor Gandola ride, has a beautiful terrace, plenty of televisions, and a very cordial Bartending team. I started with a drink that I've never had presented in this fashion. I ordered their Coco Piña and it was served in a coconut shell with a nice leaf accent. Watching the Bartender crack open the coconut was a treat, as well. This drink was exceptional and is highly recommended. I had the Cancun Ahi Tuna Ceviche (mango agua-chile, watermelon, almonds, sesame). This dish was well presented and all of the textures and flavors came together very nicely. For dessert, I had the Ancho-Chocolate Brownie (vanilla ice cream, candied pecans). I've never eaten a dessert more slowly than this one. I never wanted it to end and, once again, the presentation was artistic. Don't leave without enjoying this treat. read more

This was the first time I ever had pazole, and I loved it. It was so flavorful and filling and had just enough kick (of spice). Their quesadilla was made with blue corn tortillas and it looked more like an empanada. It was tasty but it can certainly fill you up. I was looking forward to the tacos but was disappointed. The grilled tilapia was good but the steak didn't have much flavor even with the salsa. The service was excellent! Our server was very friendly and attentive. She was always smiling and she was very helpful. The restaurant was very clean and modern looking and we were lucky that we were seated next the canal with the gondolas passing by. Let's start with servers ask for Laura she's hot great descriptions of anything on the menu to help you decide. Food item names seem like any other Mexican restaurant but the ingredients can be quite interesting and the flavors are incredible. We had chips and salsa ( a nice roasted pepper flavor with just the right amount of heat and other flavors), the chili rellano disappeared from my wife's plate quickly and I had the chicken enchiladas with the creamy sauce Laura recommended and was in gastronomical heaven. Even though we were full we had to try the churros and ice cream. Luckily we didn't eat that before taking a picture like we did all the rest of our food. The restaurant is located just above the theater so if you're going to a concert perfect location and it's right on the canal if you like to watch the gondolas. It is a bit cacophonous with the gondoliers competing with the Spanish music but totally good time. read more

A Mexican restaurant smack dab in the middle of the Grand Canal Shops? My San Diego-born Mexican food snob radar was screaming, "Absolutely not." Well, consider me humbled. Against all odds, this place is the real deal. The food is spot-on, the flavors are legit, and somehow they've managed to serve great Mexican food in a location that seems like it should only sell overpriced gelato and souvenir gondolas. We love the food truck that's parked in front of the restaurant so we thought we would try the restaurant. The menu was completely different. We wanted the nachos and the truck had nachos. We asked if we can purchase the nachos from the truck to eat and it was not allowed. We were so disappointed since the restaurant menu didn't have nachos. We also didn't see that the chile rellano had nuts. The menu did say it but the font was small and we missed it. My sister is allergic so once the food came out we had to return it. The server was extremely nice about it but the manager came and she was so unfriendly. The manager was actually very intimidating and rude that we all lost our appetite. The server felt so bad for us. We loved our server but the manager really made us feel uncomfortable. We definitely won't be coming back as we had a very unpleasant family dinner. read more

I had the carne asada and the mushroom tacos. The carne asada was quite good. The mushroom taco was too slimy - even with the expectation that mushrooms can inherently be a bit slimy. I would definitely pass on that one. Sadly, the chips didn't taste fresh... hard and almost tasteless. Disappointing. After decades of visiting Las Vegas, there is one restaurant on the Strip we return to with the loyalty of homing pigeons: Canonita at the Venetian. Now that we happily reside here, the luxury of dropping in whenever we wish makes the experience even sweeter. At first glance, it may seem improbable to find genuinely good Mexican cuisine tucked beside the Venetian's faux-romantic canal. Yet from our very first visit, La Canonita proved us wrong, and promptly hooked us. The menu draws inspiration from the cuisine of the Yucatán Peninsula, and our perennial favorite is their take on cochinita pibil, known here as Santa Rosa Barbacoa. Guajillo-chile-rubbed pork arrives wrapped in a banana leaf, accompanied by chipotle BBQ sauce, cilantro rice, black beans, and corn tortillas. It's deeply flavorful, comforting, and so satisfying that our biggest complaint is how rarely we order anything else. Determined to broaden our horizons, we recently arrived early enough to explore the brunch menu, and were glad we did. We began by sharing the Braised Short Rib Chilaquiles, a generous composition of corn tortilla chips layered with tender short ribs, asadero cheese, eggs over easy, salsa roja, crema, and pico de gallo. The short ribs were plentiful and well-distributed, the chips retained just enough crunch, and the flavors came together harmoniously. While I personally would have welcomed a bit more heat from the salsa, it's understandable that the kitchen aims for broader appeal. Next came a classic Huevos Rancheros, featuring two eggs over easy, Monterey Jack, corn quesadillas, potatoes, black beans, and ranchero sauce. Here, the sauce and potatoes stole the show, rich, well-seasoned, and grounding the dish. Combined with the eggs and accompaniments, the plate offered a pleasing variety of textures and flavors in every bite. Though it was too early for cocktails on this visit, past experiences with their margaritas and Mexican beers have been consistently excellent. With its picturesque canal-side setting and reliably strong execution, Canonita remains a standout on the Strip. Whether for brunch or dinner, it's an ideal choice for a relaxed, romantic meal, and a reminder that good food can still surprise you, even in the most unlikely of places. Cañonita was an oasis for us. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly and prompt. We didn't feel rushed and were able to enjoy our delicious cocktails and shrimp and mussels appetizer in a leisurely manner. For mains I was torn between the chile rellano which included nuts and dried fruit, a first for me, and the mushroom enchiladas. Our outstanding server said the enchiladas were his favorite thing on the menu so I went with his recommendation. WOW! I was blown away. My honey's fajitas were excellent and generously portioned as well. We were seated right next to the canal so the gondola watching was quite convenient. Canonita is an attractive and nicely appointed restaurant and was our favorite meal during our ten day (yikes!) stay. It was not our most expensive meal. read more
