This place never fails. They really do have the best borekas. On their own they are delicious, but with the tomato pulp it is the perfect balance. I love their homemade pickles, though I would love them even more if they were crunchy. We tried the chocolate borekas for the first time and it was such a nice sweet treat. I also love that whenever my family visits, this is what I order for early morning breakfast delivery. It always hits the spot.
Braving the parking lot around lunch time was worth it! The strip mall where Bo*re*kas is located is jammed full of shops and restaurants, and it could be easy to miss this little spot if you're heading east on Ventura and not looking carefully. Parking is free, but it might take you a while to find a spot. My BF and I came here the other day before it got really busy and I was so happy to finally be able to introduce him to a kosher restaurant that he'd never tried before. My BF got 2 of the spinach with cheese and I got one with fungi, onion, and truffle. Don't tell him I said so, but at first I think my BF was thrown off by the word "fungi," but when he saw it was just mushrooms, he looked a bit relieved. He's not a big fan of pickles, but I am, so I got to eat all the pickles!! Yummm. We were pleased with our selections. My BF is more of a purist and ate his borekas plain, but I dove straight into the schug and tomato pulp, which is excellent. I can't handle really spicy foods, but the schug is not too spicy. The hard boiled eggs were cooked just right. I made a mess while I was eating, but I was okay with it. A little dab of schug, a spoonful of tomato pulp, with a bite of hard boiled egg made each bite of boreka like a symphony of flavors of textures that danced across my tastebuds. We didn't even mind that it was sprinkling while we ate since the roof has a little bit of an overhang that provides some shelter. It was really nice actually to be eating hot, freshly made borekas while it was raining a bit. The only thing that could have made this more perfect was if Sonny's Ice Cream was open, but we came on a weekday and Sonny's doesn't open until 2pm during the week.
Had the Fungi, Onion and Truffle boreka which was crazy good. I usually only like dill pickles but I went to town with their sour ones. I haven't been here in a long time, but now they have more tables and chairs, more so than crates for sitting. Parking- hopefully you'll luck out getting a spot in the lot but there are many other places to eat here. Much appreciation to the very kind employee who added oat milk to my Turkish coffee. Took a risk as I didn't know what cardamom tastes like. It was too strong without milk and sugar. Still need to try the margherita and spinach & cheese borekas. $14 each may seem pricey, but believe me, the quality and divine taste is so worth it!
I am not familiar with the Sherman Oaks area so when I looked up a spot to eat, I was so intrigued by what a Boreka is - I had never heard of it before. And omg do I wish I lived closer to Sherman oaks now just so I could eat these every week! This is my favorite pastry I've ever had. I am a savory person, but I love a flaky crust, so this was right up my alley. Let me say this - the person on Yelp who said you need to order two - they lied, these come with SO much food! You really only need one order per person. But if you'd like to try different flavors, you'll have great leftovers! I tried the fungi, onion, and truffle boreka and the cultured cheese and Za'atar boreka and they were both amazing. At first I liked the Za'atar boreka more, and then I loved the mushroom one more. I kept going back and forth because they are so good. The Za'atar boreka is more unique, but they're both excellent flavors, especially with their hot sauce and tomato pulp. There are a few tables outside, but it is just a window you order from. But the women who helped me with my order were both very kind, and patient and helpful since it was my first time trying a boreka. There is parking - it's in an area with lots of casual restaurants around it. I went at a busier time, around 3 pm (not recommended - the Borekas sell out and I came right before they did. They are normally sold out before that) so I did have to do a loop around the parking lot before I found a spot, but it's pretty easy. I will keep recommending this spot over and over. It's so good!
We have been wanting to come here for some time and wow, how could we have put this off? We got the special box that seemed like "the thing" to get, and wow. Every bite I was in absolute shock at how flavorful and interesting these pastries were. They come with pickles, sauces, and hard boiled eggs and wow--I was drooling between bites, getting territorial over the different options, and even though I had thought of bringing these for an event to share, we ended up getting something else for the event and just enjoying this all to ourselves! Definitely a top spot in LA!
Borekas! $14. Never had it before but was dying to try it. They definitely are a tasty treat. It was super flaky and crisp. I thoroughly enjoyed the potato and brown butter as well as the spinach. The tomato sauce was a nice compliment. I enjoyed the pickles and the egg on the side.
I seriously think I have tried all the borekas here and each one has been amazing. This includes the potato and brown butter, the fungi, onion and truffle, the spinach and cheese, and the cultured cheese and za'atar. I love how each bite matches or exceeds my expectations and I really like the mixture of what is in each box! The hours at this location are early, so get there before or after the rush. This is definitely a great breakfast and brunch spot! I have never seen it empty during business hours since there is usually more than one person in line or waiting for their order. There really are a lot of Mediterranean flavors within these warm and flaky pastries!

I ordered one potato & brown butter and one spinach & cheese. Both were soo delicious. The texture of the pastry was perfect, and the fillings were well seasoned and flavorful. I loved the variety of sides and sauces they provided too. I recommend ordering online to skip the line!

Omg, this place is awesome. Everything I love made so well. Here are a few things to note: It's a walk up counter with some outdoor seating. The service is very quick and friendly. If you like zaghtar you will love this zaghtar with cheese. They also have Nutella boreks. Everything was amazing and my clients loved it.
Excellent borekas. I love the flaky crust this place uses over the pita-style dough you get from other locations. The mushroom and the spinach are my favorite flavors.

I have been wanting to try this place for awhile but I'm not in this side of town too often. Well today was the day! Only problem was I wished I ordered more. I got the spinach cheese Borekas and it was honestly delicious. I liked it by itself best but enjoyed with the chili too I also got a mint iced tea barely sweetened and it was great! Really lovely service, ordered ahead for pick up. The only thing that was stressful was the parking lot, it was lunch time crowded so a little congested and stressful but that had nothing to do with my views here. Go!! It's worth it Honestly, sitting here wishing I had more. read more

First time having a Boreka and wow this has to be one of the best breakfasts I have ever had in a long time. We got the spinach and cheese and potato one, both were amazing but I really loved the spinach and cheese. The crust was so flakey and the fillings inside were creamy and delicious. It reminded me a lot of a stuffed croissant. Pickles on the side were so crunchy and salty and the soft boiled egg was PERFECTION. I would highly recommend this place to everyone and I will definitely be returning! read more

Amazing savory pastry. Had this spot on my must try list for a very long time. I thought it was a bit pricey for one pastry at $14 BUT they are - as expected - quite incredible. The flake, texture and flavor are all supreme. The compact parking lot for this small strip mall is not fun but def worth the effort. I had a spinach cheese (delicious) and now I need to try all the rest. Such a unique treat. read more

Borekas makes wonderful flaky bourekas filled with za'atar, spinach, mushrooms, potatoes, and cheese. Bourekas are savory pastries made of filo dough and normally oil. Here, they apply ghee in between the folds, which produces really flaky layers and soft and chewy interiors. The pastry is crispy, buttery, and warm. You can choose between various savory and sweet fillings. The box of Fungi, Onion & Truffle bourekas have a gooey umami blend of mushrooms, truffles, cheese, and onions. Dunk the crispy bites in the delicious chili sauce and refreshing tomato pulp sauce. And enjoy with the pickles and jammy boiled eggs to vary the flavors. Ordering: Place your order at the window. I've been wanting to try Borekas for awhile now so stopped by on the drive from Santa Barbara to San Diego. The parking lot is very tricky. It's cramped and busy! My husband dropped me off but there were no available spots to park. I waited in line for about ten minutes to order and they said it would be another 15 minutes before my order was ready. I wish I had ordered ahead. In fact, while I was waiting they closed the order window and stopped taking new orders. So definitely order ahead! I tried the mushroom onion truffle as well as the zaatar and cheese. I didn't like the mushroom boreka but the zaatar one was really good! The condiments are really nice too especially the boiled egg! I'm not sure I'll go out of my way to go back but am happy I tried it. read more

We stopped by on a Friday afternoon before closing, and to our surprise, there was no line--always a plus! We tried two variations: The Spinach & Cheese and the Cultured Cheese & Za'atar. The crust lived up to the hype--buttery, flaky, and perfectly baked. However, the fillings didn't quite hit the mark for us. They weren't bad, but they felt a bit one-dimensional and could have used more depth in flavor. Still, we're glad we tried it while passing through Sherman Oaks. Worth a visit for the crust alone, but we'd probably try a different filling next time! read more

What a treat! Drove an hour with a friend just to try these and it was well worth it. We called to place an order just before noon, and they were almost out of borekas except for their fungi, onion & truffle as well as their off-menu margherita. If you're not able to stop by earlier in the morning, I highly recommend calling ahead to ensure you don't leave empty-handed. The parking lot is tiny but luckily we were able to snag a spot. It's a grab-and-go situation with barely any seating outside, so we just ate in our car. The borekas were absolutely delicious -- crispy and flaky yet simultaneously fluffy! Loved the eggs and pickles on the side too. Can't wait to return and try all the borekas :) read more

I was so intrigued by the hype this place created. It's all over my timeline with people saying how worthy the long line and the wait were. Besides, it's also a long drive for me so double the effort. It opened early yet got busy instantly. Great thing was they accepted pre-order via call so you could assure you didn't come and go home empty-handed. It was a bit uncomfortable for me when I needed to give my credit card info on the phone, but I eventually did it LOL. They did have some simple sitting area for people who wanna enjoy their borekas on the spot, but I wouldn't say it's the most convenient so trade-off between patience to wait till you're home to eat it or forget comfort and ambiance HA! Nonetheless, their Borekas - which were basically Sephardic Jewish and Israeli pastries, were mind-blowing! I didn't wanna waste the opportunity coming all the way hence having all except the potato one. My #1 was doubtlessly the cultured cheese and zaatar, which sounded simple yet super flavorful. Strong cheese well complemented by zaatar and further elevated by the wonderfully crispy and yummy pastry. That pastry being so good, honestly could easily be paired with any stuffing and turned out outstanding. I couldn't decide between spinach cheese or fungi truffle being 2 or 3. I even got the chocolate one, which was also super good but I would recommend not skipping the savory ones! read more

I have been wanting to try this for a a few weeks. I was in the area so I decided to go. The parking lot is very congested and crowded but I got lucky and got a spot right away.I ordered the mushroom boreka with hot chocolate with coffee inside I forgot the name but it was good . The young lady who helped me was very friendly and nice. I didn't have to wait long I got the food within 5 minutes. They do have a table outside but it's small . The food is good the boreka is very flaky and the two sauces they gave made it come together very well. I am not into pickles but somehow it works with this. The eggs are good but the star of the show is the boreka. Overall I give it a 9/10. I will try to come back with my dad and try a different flavor. read more

I am so excited we finally tried Borekas!! I've been eyeing it on social media and finally stopped by on New Years Eve. It's a humble spot where you can just walk up and order, there is plenty of parking and a few tables and chairs but most people definitely take it to go. We ordered the fungi, potato and cheese Borekas and they were all sooooo good. They come out warm and soft filled with flavor and a nice flaky bread. By the way - when you order a Boreka it comes in the box with the eggs and other things! I was searching the menu for the combo when I realized it's all included. It's super affordable and the staff is really friendly and happy to help. It takes about 15 minutes to get your borekas but they come out fresh so it's absolutely worth it. We will definitely be back!!! read more

What are your pre-ordering hours?
We have called for an order 10-15 minutes before they opened on a Sunday and they took our order
Are there any flavors without dairy?
Not yet. They currently all contain clarified butter.
Is there egg in the borekas itself--in the dough or any of the fillings? We have an egg allergy in our family, but if the only egg is the hard-boiled ones served on the side, I'd love to try the borekas. Thank you!
