The meal began with a bottle of yogurt soju because there's absolutely no other way, and the apps were the kimchi dumplings, kimchi pancake, NY strip tartare, and the shrimp arugula salad. They were all pretty good, but the kimchi pancake was devoured like the kitchen was closing. Our server was dedicated to keeping our cups full and the soju stayed flowing, she made sure we had everything we needed and didn't hesitate to happily answer any questions. At Bori, a perk is the meat being cooked for you, and every piece was just the right temp. We got the ABC Platter, 1 choice from each set/menu for 88 bucks. We had the sirloin flap, soy ginger ribeye roll, and the pork belly. My favorite of the three was the ribeye because it had that deep, savory flavor right off the grill. There's also a battalion of sides, so it's impossible to leave hungry. Especially with a little peach soju on the side. Bori might be considered a higher end place, but the atmosphere is really chill. Everyone was laughing, talking, drinking, just having a good time like happy hour never ends. When my parents drive into town and insist that we come here TWICE in a row, I know it's the real deal for authentic Korean food. BORI has set the bar very high for quality KBBQ in Houston. The restaurant is located close to I-10 and with plenty of parking. They take reservations online which also made it convenient. There is a garden outside the restaurant that provides a traditional vibes while the interior is modern, clean, and spacious with a nice art museum inside. I read online that they use a strong ventilation system to prevent you from leaving the restaurant smelling and PSA - it actually works! I was surprised that my shirt & hair didn't smell like KBBQ when I got home. The meat portions are small and definitely overpriced, but boy they are GOOD and "fine steakhouse" quality as my parents would say. We ordered a large Short Rib Platter (boneless short rib + seasoned short rib + marinated short rib for $120) - the order of these meats is strategic because they get more delicious by the item. The corn cheese and steamed egg on the side are great. Our server also did a great job cooking for us, though this did not fill us up so we ended up ordering 2 additional marinated short ribs ($43 each) for our party of 5. The meats took a while to arrive though, so try to place your meat orders as soon as possible. For appetizers/starters we ordered the japchae (very flavorful and would recommend) and octopus carpaccio. And lastly for dessert, they provided one on the house since we were celebrating a birthday. This was my second visit to Bori, and I was not disappointed in the least! This is definitely one of the best (if not the best) Korean restaurants in Houston! All of the food - the appetizers, the entrees, and the sides - are amazing without exception! My favorite is the marinated short rib. While the prices are certainly not low, you definitely get what you pay for! The quality of the meat is superb, and don't even talk about "all-you-can-eat" places. They're able to do that because they don't server the quality of meat that Bori does! The servers cook the food to its ideal state. While I enjoy cooking my own Korean BBQ just fine, I prefer to leave it to the experts here who are able to converse and cook simultaneously! This has become one of my favorite places to get food! The first time I visited was for a Saturday dinner to celebrate a friend's birthday. While we were seated promptly, we ended up in the outside section without a grill. Surprisingly, we enjoyed it; the atmosphere was quiet, giving us the feeling of having our private room. However, being tucked away meant we weren't checked on as much. For appetizers, we ordered: - Kimchi pancake - Japchae: This dish was truly life-changing! It was so flavorful and looked beautiful. - Small ABC platter (1 choice of meat in each row) In hindsight, we could have skipped the appetizers and still been full due to the abundance of sides - all of them delicious! The second time I visited was for lunch, where we ordered the grilled bulgogi for two and japchae. Let me start this by saying it REALLY could just be me. Went to Bori for dinner with friends and just wasn't impressed. The hostess was nice enough, but seemed a little confused and overwhelmed (the restaurant was not busy at all). The service provided by our server was great and honestly the best part of the night for me. Bori feels over hyped, and overpriced. I didn't get the wow factor I was expecting from other reviews, and for a $300 dinner I would have much preferred a traditional steak house or an AYCE. I felt like the side items fell a little flat with flavor, with the salad being the best thing. Cool for a one time experience, but I probably would not be back. Came for dinner on Wednesday and it was PACKED! Glad we made a reservation cause we had to wait even with a res. They can help cook for you here and it's needed cause their stoves are pretty finicky. For 5 adults, we got the wagyu, marinated short rib and marinated pork belly. We also got some steamed egg, 2 corn cheese and a seafood pancake to share. And also tried the raw marinated crab! I really liked it but it's a bit spicy and comes doused in a lot of red soy bean paste and was hoping it was the soy sauce kind. They also came out with a lot of side dishes of pickled veggies and salad that you can ask to refill, as well as some lettuce and perilla leaves to wrap the meat. Everything was delicious! An upscale Korean barbecue located in Spring with a quaint courtyard. It took a while it seemed to get started as they were pretty busy on a Thursday night. We made reservations so we're seated immediately. We chose the butcher's variety as there were 5 of us. Ribeye and fingers/ spicy chicken, boneless short ribs etc the meat was all delicious. We also had the kimchi pancake- yum.The kimchi was also good as well as the cold spicy noodles. One epic fail was the kimchi stew. The depth of flavor was not there prob due to not having enough kimchi in it. It had a LOT of onions instead. I prob would not get this again/ maybe an off night. Also, it took forever to checkout as our server(they cook for you) had 2 tables to cook for after us. All in all, we had great food and we will be back. They also had barley tea and rice! I have had Bori on my list for a while but never really got a chance to try it, especially moving further out of the area. My friend finally took me here for my birthday last weekend (7/22) and it was definitely very different from the typical Korean BBQ place. When I pulled up, there was no parking so I had to Valet my car which was complimentary, and of course I gave cash tips when I was leaving! I felt so bad for the guy valeting though because he was by himself and running back and forth, and there was a line 5 cars deep waiting to valet their cars also! Once i went in, there were 2 hostesses at the stand and they greeted me and I let them know I was waiting for my friend but we had a reservation for 2. They politely said to let them know when my friend arrived and I walked around the lobby area. There was a bar and very beautiful seating area for guests to sit or large parties waiting for other people to wait at and there was a gallery just right by the front doors that had beautiful art work also! Once my friend arrived, we were seated and our waitress came by to ask for drinks and any appetizers. We asked to give us just a few minutes to look over the menu before ordering the beef tartare and the raw marinated crab for appetizers. For the meats we ordered the Premium Beef Cuts, Filet Mignon, Marinated Short Rib and Dry Aged NY Strip. The meat also came with a corn cheese, kimchi soup and steamed egg . This was alot of food with the usual sides that we would get and rice as well. I really enjoyed all the meats but the unique thing is the waitress cooked our meet for us. The only problem we had was we had asked for a medium/medium rare cook and because she kept walking away from our table, our meat was over cooked to well-done. she even burned all the vegetables that she put on the grill (pineapple, onions, asparagus) The only meat that she put on last that was cooked to medium rare was the marinated short rib because my friend called another waiter over to flip the meat for us. I don't know if I would come back because the service was not very good, but the food was tasty (other than the beef of course due to being over cooked). The Best Korean BBQ in Houston. The service is top notch. They cook the meats for you, and they always come out perfectly. It isn't awkward to have the server nearby either, they'll engage with you as little or as much as you like. The selection of meat has gotten better since they opened up and the quality has never once disappointed. There's different marinates and seasonings that you can choose from and Butcher's Selections to help you choose. The atmosphere is very upscale. Half of the floor space is devoted to an art gallery and private rooms and there's an elegant feel to the dining experience. Then I had the two meat "Bori" (it's cooked at your table). You MUST have the marinated rib, and then either the spicy pork, or pork belly. The marinated beef rib is OUT OF THIS WORLD good y'all! Don't worry, the sides are about a dozen as you can see and are unlimited refills on sides. As far as potions are concerned, this is too much food for one person. I'm sitting here with the meat sweats as I'm typing this and still have 8-10oz of spicy pork on the plate, however the rib is GONEDY! ASK FOR ALAN if he's here! Service: I was seated by a traditional hostess with traditional nice sweet personality. Then I was gifted with a server who honestly WAY overdid my expectations from my initial expectation (sorry, i people watch and try and guess people in advance). I love this galbisoup, it's one of my go to soup whenever I am at a Korean restaurant. Two reasons one you can't mess up this soup and two it's easy to have. However, Bori stands out as the best because their soup is clear and healthy. Other places you can tell that they use MSG. Bori on the other hand uses the best ingredients to make this soup. It's so good that if the pot wasn't so hot, I would hold it with both hands and slurp it down. The meat is tender and not tough. And falls off the bone just as easily. I wasn't very impressed, sad to say. We started with the kimchi dumpling appetizer, fried. Decent flavor but they had kind of a crumbly outer texture and didn't seem like they were the typical fried dumpling texture. Our table of four split the premium beef cuts--so we had the filet, marinated short rib, and the ribeye. The filet was by far the best. The other two cuts of meat were very average to me. The meat was good when dipped in the sauce, but the oil was bland for dipping. Maybe I was eating it wrong? We also received a plethora of sides...there was kimchi, but also some atypical banchan. Mayo-y pasta salad and some unidentifiable ones. Our waitress didn't even know lol. Service was a bit subpar. I felt like our waitress disappeared for a good while for most of the evening. The place wasn't very full either. It has a strange vibe to it. The outside almost makes it seem like some sort of scandalous venue. Came here for dinner on a weeknight. We arrived 20min early, so we first headed to the bar in the back, but there was no one there. After a few moments, a lady came by to drop off menus, and then she left. A few moments later, a gentleman came by to take our orders. I went with the Seoul Fashioned, which was ok - the Asian flavors were very subtle. I also didn't like how it was made with many small ice cubes rather than one single large one. Felt pressured to drink it fast so it wouldn't be diluted. We strolled around the zen garden and their art gallery before being seated. These 2 are lovely touches! We opted to start with the salmon muchim (sashimi on salad) and spicy shrimp gambas (shrimp with scallops, garlic, cherry tomatos, parsley). The salmon was very good, and it was a lot of salad, especially since you already get lots of raw greens with the steaks. The gambas came with soft white bread, which was very good. I didn't expect it to come with cheese though. The meats are cooked in front of you by your server. We wanted the dry aged ribeye, but they were out, so we went with the ribeye roll (leaner than the cap) and spicy pork. I thought these were both excellent. With these 4 dishes, we were quite full. Solid Korean food. I went recently with my mom (she's Korean and has good taste) for lunch. I got the kalbitang lunch special and my mom got the yookejang lunch special. Both were great, and we left full plus some leftovers to-go. One small note: there was very little banchan options offered (the free side dishes) but they did refill a few of them as we ate along the way. The service was fine. We were seated after waiting only about a minute, and the food came out relatively quickly. The owner also stopped by our table and greeted us. It was a nice gesture! The ambiance of the restaurant is quite special. They have a large outdoor area for when the weather is cooperative, and a fancy art gallery too (kind of random, but I'm not complaining). I've also experienced dinner here many times, and it's one of the best Korean BBQ restaurants in Houston. It can be a bit pricey if you grill meat at the table; my experience has been ~$50-$75 per person, depending on how much you wanna eat. Lastly a quick warning: their lunch service closes at 1:30 pm. So when I mapped it to Bori for lunch, my Tesla GPS gave me a warning saying "this establishment is closing soon". Then I checked Yelp and saw that they close at 1:30 pm and reopen at 5 pm. For our food, we ordered spicy naengmyeon and I believe the first combo (the one that comes with beef belly.) To go with it, we chose the marinated short rib and New York strip ( I think) steak. Really tasty and tender meat, but on the smaller portion side for the price (I was surprised since we chose the large option.) It came with salad and small sides. It also came with cheese corn and soybean soup. The sides were tasty, but we never were offered refills of the banchan unfortunately. The spicy naengmyeon was pretty good, but I have had better. Why 4 stars? Because it was a fun experience, but I have had better (and less expensive) Korean BBQ. --- --- --- To-date, I've never been to a Korean BBQ that was in a place you'd call "trendy". There was a place in LA I visited one time that was maybe a bit on the hip side, but it also mirrored my usual experience. At BORI, they have craft cocktails - something certainly absent from every other place I've gone. But don't get me wrong, these cocktails are a-w-e-s-o-m-e, it's just not something I expected to be available at a K-BBQ. By the way, I am specifically talking about the mule and the lychee martini. An easy 5-stars for both. One non-tasting related complaint, we sat at a 4-top table as a group of 3, and there was not one square inch of unused table space. It definitely did not make it easy to reach and grab certain things that you wanted to try because sometimes things would be all the way across the table, and you'd have to reach over the fire to do so. I can't even imagine how we would have fit a fourth person here. We started off by ordering the japchae and seafood pancake. Both were great, but the japchae was especially unbelievable. Do not come here without ordering this. In terms of the meat, the seasoned short rib was easily the highlight. Everything else was fine, and much better once dumped into the various concoctions of dips and salt. We ordered the Butcher's Feast and added on the Ribeye Cap, but didn't think it was worth it as a premium option. It honestly tasted comparably to everything else (other than the short rib, which rocked our faces). Next time I am in the mood for K-BBQ, I will probably return to Bellaire where the old school gritty places are, but we did enjoy our experience overall here, even if the bill came to $400 after tip. read more

Decor was elegant and artistic. Service was fine. For food we ordered two platters of steak plus 8 oz of Japanese Wagyu (8oz is the minimum order), along with a number of appetizers. Steaks were yummy. Complementary side dishes were so so - all tiny pickle dishes. Steam egg was good. We were the last table seated Sunday night. The place is quiet with nice decoration. My gf and I ordered a small seafood pancake and the ABC platter. The waiter was a bit slow to take our order but seeing as how we were the last ones in, it's understandable. The food came out pretty quickly. First were the sides like kimchi and salads, then the seafood pancake, finally the meat. The salads were both really nice, fresh, and zesty. The seafood pancake was really delicious. It's a thicker style but didn't feel overly starchy, big chunks of seafood, and really crispy. I'd come back just for the pancake honestly. The meat was solid, the short ribs were our favorite. The kimchi stew was also quite good, good amount of spice. The steamed eggs were also really tasty, light, and fluffy. BORI BORI BORI, what an interesting and amazing restaurant! For those not familiar with Houston, this is located in Blalock / K-town part of town so there are plenty of Korean restaurants around along with an H-mart (korean grocer). We have not lived in Houstin in a while but this is a relatively new place that has the echelons of becoming a very strong Austin staple. There is ample parking on-site on both sides of the building (front and back) and the buildout is simply gorgeous. It's a bit of a deviation from your standard Houston hole-in-the-wall construction that reflects its "newness" and the restaurant also has a gallery attached to it that seems to make it more of a unique event space than just a restaurant. The entryway feels more like an upscale boutique hotel check-in which is also not very Houston-esque but overall nice things to have. Service was really helpful, our waiter went through their setup (a-la-carte ordering + how the different meat combos are structured) and as we were only there for lunch, opted for some entrees instead of KBBQ. They did have lunch hour and happy hour pricing available which was often $1 - 3 off select entrees and items ($12 - 15 pricing per entree during HH). Not cheap for Houston but also not out there especially for how good the food is. THE FOOD - it's good. It's really good, and that's always a relative mark given how good a lot of Houston food is. The soups we ordered (budae jjgae and sundubu) were all very flavorful yet balanced, the type that makes you find yourself continuing to eat even after you're full just because you love the taste. The amount of banchan was satisfactory (5) although ideally they could have added a candied potato since most of them were all salty or pickled and could have benefited from a starchier or sweeter contrasting dish. The restaurant was pretty busy even for a late lunch (~1pm) and based on how happy and engaged the other patrons were, I imagine this place fills out quite well at night. They even have a freaking mini art gallery and lobbt area. The kim chi here is perfection as are staples like mashed potatoes, steamed egg, & kim chi soup. Def make a reservation for weekends because wait can easily be 1hr+. Servers really know what they're doing here and cook the meat perfectly. We usually cook meat ourselves at other places but here we wholeheartedly trust the servers to cook for us. We usually get the abc combo. Get your meat on at BORI. Me and 7 friends went this last weekend. We got there a little early so there was plenty of parking; a good chunk of parking is for compacts, so you'll have to know how to parallel park if you have a larger vehicle. The building and interiors are very nice, there's even an art gallery inside (what?). There's a lot of things to order, note: this is an upscale KBBQ place with no AYCE, so be prepared to pay for quality. The meat quality is one of the best in Houston. Personally, I wish the menu listed how many oz of meat you're getting. I think my friend ordered a set or at least ordered enough that we got several salads and soups to be included. Everything was great, nothing stood out negatively. I love that the ventilation are positioned right over the grills, I couldn't even smell the usual 'Acqua di KBBQ' on my clothes. The staff will cook up the meat for you as well. Service was good, they were pretty timely with refilling water. Everything from the food, service and ambiance are perfect. I have never left BORI dissatisfied, and I doubt I ever will. The servers cook your meat for you, so each piece is cooked to perfection. The side dishes are exquisite. But, my coworkers always order a few appetizers and things on the side (kimchi stew, for example) which is perfect alongside such a heavy meal. One of my favorite places for Korean BBQ. Love that they cook tableside for you and ghe staff is very attentive. But the FOOD is where it's at. Highly recommend the NY steak, ribeye, and bulgogi as well as the seafood pancake, japnea, and shrimp arugula salad. A half a star off because their white rice had a Japanese rice consistency (I prefer a drier rice) and another half star off because the shrimp fried rice is always a hit or miss for me. Make a reso especially if going in the weekend! They do have a heated patio, but no grills outside, so you won't get the table side cooking. PRO PARENT TIP: I don't believe they jave a kid's menu, but nothing some bulgogi can't fix! My 5 yo even asked for a to-go order! BORI is Good. Everything is actually beyond good except for the prices that are a little steep. But hey, you get what you pay for, dont you? LOL. The art gallery inside BORI looks super duper nice, and this place is definitely not one of those typical Korean restaurants along Gessner/ Longpoint. It is absolutely an upscale high-end restaurant that the fancy restaurant-goers would love! We ordered various cuts. It was awesome to have someone table-side to cook and serve the meat. IMO the pork belly was the best! Seafood pancake was crispy, not doughy, and delicious, and the cold noodle soup was pretty refreshing. The Gyeranjjim (steamed eggs) in a cast iron bowl was not as silky as the Chinese or Japanese steamed eggs, but it was all good and tasty! Service was top-notch. A classy establishment that serves phenomenal cuts of beef! The "Marinated Boneless Short Rib" was tender, melting, and one of the best cuts I've eaten in Houston! Definitely would recommend! Thank goodness for Yelp because I would not have found this place on my own! Meat was delicious, service was great. They cook the bbq in front of you, and cut it up to serve. We ordered the butchers feast large, and it was just enough for three hungry people. This is definitely a good spot to take someone on a date, or family/friend get together. We didn't go all out with the wagyu this time, and I will give it a try next time I'm in town! read more

The food is excellent, I usually come with a group and we get one of the pre-set combinations. The steamed egg is divine, and the side dishes are all delicious, and I appreciate they provide a bunch of different wrap options and a bunch of different kimchi variations as well. The service is fast, but the last time I went, we were asked to leave so they could have the table after an hour - I felt this was a bit odd for an ala carte restaurant, but we were finishing up anyway so it wasn't that big of a deal. Quite pricey but the meat quality and service make it so worth it! I love how the staff would grill the meats for you so they will always be perfectly cooked. Wagyu beef was $15/oz with a minimum of 10oz per order. It lives up to its reputation of the tenderness and you should try it at the beginning when your stomach is still empty and your taste buds haven't been mixed up with other flavors yet. The Butcher's Feast XL $190 is my always favorite and also the perfect option for a group of 4-5 people. You will feel full and content by ordering this set only.
