Headed to Bortells to watch our football game tonight. We've been coming to there for many years! Our bartenders were AMAZING!

We called and ordered 3 large custom pizzas. They told us it would be ready in 25-30 minutes. My husband left our house after 25 minutes for the 10 minute drive to the bar. They had forgotten to put our order in the system until we after we arrived and asked to pick it up. They put the order in and we paid about $120 with tip for the three pizzas. My husband waited for over an hour at the restaurant. No discount received. Many apologies from the staff though. Ultimately, the pizza quality was fine but one of them (pepperoni) had an abnormally sweet crust- like sugary sweet. It was odd. We all commented on it, not great. Pepperonis themselves were very tasty. Otherwise the pizza would have been decent for the beach. I don't like giving local island spots bad reviews since we've lived half our lives here for 20 years but that was a disappointing experience and our first ever experience at Bortell's. read more

For our last night, my family and I decided to check out Bortell's. We wanted to see how the place was doing since the makeover. The drinks were good, but the food was outstanding. I didn't have low expectations per se, but I just thought the food would be okay. I was totally wrong. Everyone in our group was pleasantly surprised by how seasoned the food was and how everything was cooked to perfection. I want to give a shout-out to our server Madison. Not only was she very attentive and checked up on us, but she was extremely kind and went above and beyond! When we come back, we hope to see her again! read more

We came in after dinner one evening and saw this is more of a local dive bar atmosphere. A lot of locals were hanging out and everyone was super friendly. Enjoyed drinks a few hours with friends and decided to go back the next night and try out the pizza as the reviews were pretty good. Order the pizza here!! Wow was it good! We tried a few options and were super happy with the flavors and the crust. Only a block from the beach so you can enjoy the sunset and walk back for evening drinks and dinner. We ended up being here a few hours after having car troubles but it ended up being the highlight of my entire day. We came for lunch based on location while visiting AMI. The vibe is definitely sports bar, but the food way surpassed my expectations. Husband and I ordered a pepperoni pizza and Greek salad with blackened chicken to share- probably the best Greek salad I have ever had. Pizza was fresh and cheesy. Our daughters had the fried chicken sandwich (not on the new menu but they will make) and chicken tenders- both were generous portions and the chicken was tender and juicy, not heavily breaded. Nothing's better than finding a friendly local bar when traveling to an area for a little downtime, we've all experienced the awkward feeling that comes when you walk into one of these local hangouts and everyone knows everyone one and you know no one. Well there's no need to avoid this one or get uptight, Bortells is definitely a place where the locals go but chances are half the customers drinking here are from somewhere else looking for a place to relax, let their hair down and have a good time. From the outside it looks like a smokey old beer joint that was what attracted me, once we entered I was impressed and somewhat disappointed lol, it was very clean, with a giant three sided bar, a few pool tables in a separate room off to the right. This full liquor bar also provides top shelf packaged sales. Along with the pool tables you'll find what defines a modern beer joint - a juke box, a small area for live entertainment, a few televisions, a very limited draft beer selection bud and bud light, a ATM and a cigarette machine (smoking area provided outside in the back, but I'm sure the later it get the more relaxed the smoking policy). The bartender was friendly as were her pours, the cash only pay as you go is another trait inherited from the good old days, so throw your cash on the bar, she will take what she needs and bring you the change, the old respect your neighbor and honor system policy is in full effect here, leaving your cash or cell phone on the bar while visited the clean restrooms or stepping outside wouldn't concern me at all if you took a few minutes to get to know the drunk sitting next to you... read more

I used to come to this place back before it was remodeled... It was a funky island dive bar. It closed for two years, and just re-opened. It's still a funky island bar but now it's updated, modern, super clean, and very friendly. It's a great place to watch football on Sundays... They give out free hotdogs! Fully stocked bar, purse hooks at every station, power outlets everywhere... love the huge bar! I just love the new Bortell's! read more
