Fresh seafood appears to be hard to come by in Orlando.....which is effing ridiculous mind you. I found this place recently and while I was not wowed but I did leave happy. My only regret was having ordered the ipswich steamers which are NOT like the Rhode Island littleneck clams I was thinking of---an error on my part. I also had the friend shrimp dinner that was perfect. I was also the only person not employed by the restaurant that was under 75 years young. At the end of the day, I really could care less who is an AARP member so long as the food is good and the prices reasnable (which they are). I think I'll come back and give this place another try. ETA: I came back and gave the joint another try. I had the broiled shrimp (it seems like every damn thing on the menu is fried, fried, fried) and while they were fresh they were completely devoid of flavor. Sorry, but throwing a buttery, greasy heap of crush ritz crackers on top of the shrimp does not suffice for flavor. In fact it grossed me out. Coming from long island, I can appreciate a good plate of fried fish, or a swordfish steak and mussels, you name it, I grew up eating New England seafood. We had this place bookmarked for a while, but were nervous it would be expensive. It wasn't at all though if you're getting a basket, and there is more than enough food for one person. Fries and onion rings are very good and the mac n cheese was also good. Baskets come with 2 sides and vary based on the fish choice. Catfish was 7 and change, cod 9 and change, both were good but I prefer my fish a little more well done, not that it wasn't fully cooked. A quick note is that the fish here isn't so much southern style. Take the catfish, it's not what you'd get at a southern bbq joint, but it's still good. So first off I'm not sure I can call this a full service restaurant. You walk in and there are menus you help yourself to with a seating area to look over the menu. Once you decide what you want you go to the counter, order you food and pay IN ADVANCE. What threw me a bit is the place on the check that says "tip". I mean I always tip at sitdown restaurants but I would like to base it on my overall experience. Plus I don't tip at fast food places where I go to the counter to order and pay and someone runs the food out to me. What I should have done is put $0 on the tip line and pay with my card and then leave a cash tip on the table after the meal based on my experience. If I go back again that's exactly what I will do. After we paid, a person sat us at a booth and then a person (don't recall if it was the same one) brought our food out. What I don't remember hearing was something like "Hi my name is so and so and I'll be taking care of you today". The food wasn't exceptional but it was hot and it was good. The best deal was the $2.00 Boston cream pie. I didn't have to go to the counter to order it but nobody came around to ask if we wanted dessert either. I went up to a server and asked for two pieces of the pie and she told me she would give me a check instead of having to go to the counter. Well that didn't happen either. After we were completely finished with our meal and dessert I had to go find the server and ask for a check. They may argue that they are a full service restaurant but the service was not great. I may go back again and now that I know what to expect it may be a completely different experience. Now that you've read this review you will have kind of an idea what to expect as well. Oh, and by the way, I asked an employee whether this restaurant and the one with the same name in New Smyrna were the same owners and found out they are NOT. Ordered Uber here tonight and wow we were so disappointed. 1. Pan seared haddock with zucchini and carrots were good. Fish was cooked great and carrots were yummy , zucchini and squash were way over cooked. We ordered the crab stuffed mushrooms and we were sent fried mushroom instead, not very good either . I have been going to Boston's for over 25 years but hadn't been this year until last week. That is when I discovered that there have been many changes on top of the increased prices. I ordered medium boxes of fish scallops and fish and and am wondering how small the small portions must be considering the small amount that came in a medium. The baked cod looked like flounder it was so thin and even more disappointing was the change in the breading on the fried fish and shrimp. I could have gotten the same quality in the frozen section at Publix. The cole slaw tasted as if it was just made and hadn't had a chance to chill. The only reason they get a two star is that the scallops were perfect. Very sad to see such a decline in what used to be a sure thing. read more

Boston's is a family run business and has been around for over 20 years. The owner takes great pride in his business and ensures that only the best seafood is served! The seafood is shipped in fresh daily from New England. Boston's closes daily from 3:25-4:00pm to change out their cooking oil. This just shows how much they care about their quality. If you go in for dinner, you know that your seafood is not only fresh, but also cooked in fresh and clean oil. I am a huge fan of pretty much everything they serve, but there are a few things that must be tried. First off, their Coconut Shrimp is absolutely heavenly. The shrimp are luscious and juicy and never overcooked. The coconut batter is tasty but not overwhelming, so you can still taste the sweetness of the shrimp. They serve it with a delicious pineapple "salsa" that is great to dip them in. Another highlight is their calamari! Amazing! Their clam chowder is also to die for. This place is a gem! If you want the best seafood around this is the place to visit. They fly seafood in from Boston every day! That may sound like overkill but it is worth it! First let me say, this is not a fancy place to eat but it is amazing! The staff is friendly, the place is clean, the food is unbelievably fresh and delicious. Second, the preparation of the food is top-notch! My husband and I always share the Admiral's platter, it is a tower of fried seafood, (you can get it broiled but as a treat, we usually go with fried) but it is light, crispy, and best of all, enormous! However, for a place that specializes in fried food, it doesn't smell greasy. They change the oil often so that your clams taste like clams and not old fryer oil! One of the better seafood restaurants in the Orlando area, Boston's Fish House has the quaint New England charm of a mom & pop crab house in Bar Harbor, ME. And as someone who has had many lobster rolls in the beautiful coastal town of Bar Harbor, the roll here may actually rival a few of them. Sans the lettuce of course (it's not necessary, pick it out). But a hefty lump of claw meat on a toasted split bun, this roll was delicious. Now it comes with 2 sides and my consensus on the sides are "eh, pass". But that's okay because the seafood is the real star here, and I look forward to returning to try many of the other dishes as well. read more

I had such high hopes for this place. I often saw lines of people waiting to get in and I even learned that it was family owned. The staff was nice, but the food was beyond bland. My partner and I ordered "spicy" fried pickles and fried mushrooms for appetizers. They were both completely devoid of seasoning. My salmon only had flavor because of the teriyaki and pineapple glaze. My mashed potatoes were instant and also flavorless, along with the green beans and my partner's zucchini medley. The rice on which my salmon was served was undercooked and all of my partner's Seafood Combo Platter was also flavorless. It's tough to get good seafood in Orlando. Especially at the chain restaurants; however, Boston's is on top of their game. I always start with a bowl of lobster bisque. It is the best I've ever had. It is full of chunks of lobster, they are very generous with it. For the main course there is a variety of stuff to choose from. The fried boxes are excellent and so is the lobster roll. Obviously the lobster roll can't compare to the ones you get in the northeastern part of the country but it's the best around here. Holy smokes! This is the most delicious baked haddock with ritz crumbs and is just like home in Boston. Generous portions and lots of side dishes to choose from. This is a fantastic place if you like seafood. It's bare bones, you order at the counter and are seated at a table, and your food is brought to your table, along with water and condiments. This is one of the best finds in this city:) All our out of town guest request to dine here. Nothing is fancy with crazy sauces, but the seafood is cooked well and to order. I'm not a fan of fried food but here the breading is light and airy and the fish/scallops and shrimp aren't over cooked. I have had the Captains Platter (which every time I say way too much food) but delightful to have the variety....I also order Shrimp/Scallops fried (with tater sauce /cocktail sauce) or broiled with either the garlic butter or sweet butter w/ cracker crumbs, both yummy! Salmon kebobs which are tasty as well---- order extra rice to soak up the sauce...some veggies or salad on the side. One Kebob is great if you don't want left overs. I can't really say I have a favorite. Everything is great! Service is attentive but if you are there on the weekend, a little slower than usual as they are super busy. But really friendly staff, quick to tend to tables after your meal comes out. Their sides are a nice variety, I just stick with their coleslaw (slightly sweet but not mayo like, a nice mix), Broccoli Salad (savory but sweet) or the onion rings (super great)! My dinner guests have had the mac & cheese (sure to please any kid, not my thing), green beans good if you like them (not a fan), squash good, and baked beans good. I'm still working on trying the Lobster Roll, I keep going back for the same favorites, so that is next on my list! I am sure it will be fabulous! read more

Had a craving for some fried shrimp and saw this location with good reviews and decided to give it a try. The portion size of their "lunch" platter was very generous. Unfortunately that is about the only pro I could name. The fried shrimp had no seasoning or taste to it and left me unsatisfied. The fries were okay just had to add some salt and the macaroni was decent. My boyfriend got the combo plater that came with fish, shrimp, and clam strips. He also felt that the meal was bland and did not have any seasoning. The breading was also falling off the fried fish. He got the onion rings and broccoli salad for his sides. Onion rings were as expected and the broccoli salad had an overpowering amount of sauce. Giving it three stars because of the portioning, but all in all would not return. read more

We will definitely be back, but I was let down by a few simple things that could be improved. We went on a Sunday night and they were out of a few fish and seafood items as well as Key lime pie. While I understand that it was the end of the week, it was disappointing to have to narrow down our menu choices. This is a pretty minor point, but it was frustrating to miss dessert. Also, the format of the restaurant is order your food then be seated. While I appreciate this concept in a "no-frills" kind of restaurant like this, it would have been nice to have a more friendly interaction with the front desk cashier. He didn't even greet until after I said hello and did not make any helpful recommendations other than listing other desserts. The beer selections were poor, but they did have one or two craft options. From there, the experience got much better and the food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. The servers were friendly and never let us run out of anything, but again, not overly interactive. Just about everything was delicious, especially the onion rings (house made). We all got the butterflied shrimp which were perfectly sweet and savory. The coleslaw is solid too. While I would have given 3.5 stars, my initial impression was not very positive at all. That being said, with some minor customer service improvements, this place could definitely be a good Saturday evening family "go too" comfort food - and definitely is for a lot of people as it is very family friendly. There are not a lot of good options for fried seafood and Boston's takes advantage of this with prices notably higher than similar casual dine-in's. I love this place & I've been going for about 15 years, since I was in college. My go to comfort food is the calamari (huge portions & it's terrific - the batter is amazing & it's so tender) & the lobster bisque (best I've had). The most delicious is really anything fried, TBH. :) Last night though, we went for the healthier options - my husband had the teriyaki salmon which is AMAZING. I had the lobster salad (lobster roll without the bread) with zucchini & squash and broccoli salad. As an appetizer we also had steamed mussels in butter & wine sauce. Seriously this place is amazing. Portions are huge, the sides are delicious & you can eat healthy or have comfort food - all of it is good. I've never been disappointed here, ever. The only strange thing is the pay before you sit, this place is always crowded for dinner & my mouth drools as we're waiting for a table to clear when I see all the delicious food paraded in front of me. It's kind of awkward. Sometimes it is just better to call in order out & enjoy sitting outside on the patio. It's just the food is so good, I'm okay with the slight torture. Another thing is, it is pricy - just be forewarned, but I promise it's worth it. I'd eat here before any Red Lobster any day - the food is superior either healthy or comfort & super fresh. Hubby's fried cod was really good as were his sides Father in law fried haddock nicely done Mine seafood platter NOPE. Seafood fish, scallops and shrimp were garlic and wine and way over cooked. I didn't eat the shrimp. Hubby ate a few. The scallops though over done weren't as tough as the shrimp. As for the choice of my other seafood, fried oysters. I nearly broke a tooth on a piece of shell that was 1/4 inch big. Thinking it was a one time problem, the next two oysters went into the napkin because I just got a mouth full of shell. I didn't eat rest of them. Since you pay before you eat no recompense for the uneaten food. At the end of the meal a server did offer to box up my uneaten items and I told her why I didn't eat them. She did offer to get me something else but the meal was over. I wish they would have checked on us earlier but the overworked staff was very busy bringing out piles of food to the tables. I would recommend the fried seafood just not the oysters. I am guessing the staff doesn't get much experience in the other styles they offer and that's why mine was so rubbery. As for the shells in the oysters someone needs to be more careful before some looses a tooth read more

We were looking for a place to eat when we spotted this place. We noticed a long line to get in so we were not sure if we wanted to wait. We figured if people were willing to wait in line that long for food it must be good. We got in the line and waited for over 25 minutes just to get in the place. Once I got in I noticed all the Boston red sox decor. I am a die hard Chicago Cubs fan so I loved all the baseball decor. You order your food at the register and then get seated. They bring the food to you. I got the mahi mahi with coleslaw it was very good. My fiancee got the salmon over rice. He said it was delicious. I think next time we go back I will try something new and got those onion rings I was drooling over all the night. read more

WOW!! Have been in Winter Park for years, and kept saying that we were going to try this place. Today was the day!! Absolutely phenomenal!!! It was so good that we forgot to take a picture! The whole experience was top notch, we called ahead to place the order, they told us it was going to be 25 minutes, the guy over the phone was so professional, pleasant, it was a joy talking to him. We got there exactly 25 minutes later and they were even nicer in person, got home and enjoyed an amazing dinner, so fresh, it was cooked to perfection, excellent flavors! I have looked at past reviews on this website and after last night's dinner, I am SOOOO sorry to join the chorus of "What happened?" Literally, we have been fans of Boston's for about 30 years. We were standing in line snaking around the little house across Aloma when it first opened to eat there. But the glow is gone. We didn't have to wait at all in line- just walked right up to the cashier to place our order. The servers were fine-just fine- and that's all. Of course the prices have gone up,up,up; and that's ok if the quality and quantity goes with up with it. But something is just off- My whole belly clams were supposed to be large last night, and they may have been, but after over cooking, they were hard and smallish. The others liked their shrimp and onion rings. I don't know, maybe it has been sold or something, the original founders worked their hearts out, but it seems to be the end of an era- read more

I was in the area of Aloma Ave. My New England friends said oh you have try Boston Fish house. It was disgusting please don't waste your money. I tried the whole belly clams. They gave you a handful for the price. I had a side of onion rings that were soaked in grease and the batter falling off. What I thought was a broccoli salad. Was whole pieces of broccoli with raisins and mayonnaise. It was disgusting please do not waste your money or your time. I been to Boston Massachusetts and they have great seafood. The seafood is fresh and so good. I can't get enough and I wish they were closer to my side of town. Everyone I've ever brought loved it as well. Friends in Ohio still talk about it and missing it. Very disappointing. I have been going here since the 80's.(*We would eat there 4 times a week) Always one of the best places for seafood. The last few times I have been here, it did not live up to the old standards. My wife gets the shrimp diner, and it was over baked. The shrimp was like rubber. Mine was fried, and it also was not what it used to be. (Smaller shrimp, a little over fired). We spoke to several of the customer who have been dining here over the years, and they too feel it has changed. Speaking to the staff said nothing changed The onion Rings are not very good from days gone by. Talking to the staff, said the two sisters who owned it, sold to an employee. Many items have changed. We will no longer eat here. At one time, there would always be a line to get in, not anymore. The last three times we were here, the staff was NOT their normal self. (Up beat, fast service, etc) It has been a very long time since I've waited in line, it wasn't like that the last three times I was there, and even before that. If you love seafod like I do, you need to stop what you're doing and go here. This is Hands Down the BEST seafood restaurant in Orlando and probably in Central Florida. I love everything about the ambience here. It's like an old Boston Seafood house right off the dock where you walk up to the window, place your order and then they bring out the most delicious and fresh seafood. I ordered a lobster roll and a side of their french fries and coleslaw. It was soooo good. I normally order the Shrimp Salad roll, but they were completely out so I just HAD to upgrade to get the Lobster roll, lol. I have eaten here many times and have never had a bad meal.
