Damn bummer. I would remember heading here as a kid to grab some sourdough before my dad would spend hours at Macy's and bore us to death. There was a time where my mom took my sister and I here to grab a bread bowl and my childhood self was delighted. The store seemed a little mismanaged at lunch time; it took probably 20 minutes for a line of six people or so and I would've left it weren't for my free loaf of bread. At one point another cashier left the register and started to make food even though there were already three other people in the back and not many people dining in? With that being said, the cashier I dealt with was very friendly but my order was completely a wash. I ordered a Turkey Cranberry with a side salad. The salad was probably half a cup sized at most and the sandwich itself was seriously, seriously skimping. I was eating pure bread at the halfway point of the sandwich since the inside was skimped on that bad. It's just dissapointing because Little Lucca's turkey cranberry (and obviously Boudin isn't a sandwich shop but the point stands) is cheaper and would have enough filled in one half to fill this entire sandwich and then some! I don't really ask for much -- and went here since I was tired -- but I can't recommend heading here in good faith. On the plus side, my free loaf was fresh I guess. read more

This Boudin is located on the first floor inside Stonestown Mall. They have been here for decades and most people know them for their famous clam chowder bread bowl. They've also caught on to the avocado toast trend, but I'll have to (sadly) admit, their avocado toast didn't taste good. There are a couple different versions you can get, but mine was the version with mashed up avocados on top of a piece of sourdough bread, then topped with a plain sliced hard boiled egg and a few black sesame seeds. It tasted very bland and unexciting. The bread bowl clam chowder on the other hand was pretty decent. It was nice and creamy and came in a hefty sourdough bread bowl. Boudin also sells a variety of soups, sandwiches, salads, and pizzas. Currently, they also have a rewards program on their app that can occasionally get you a free loaf of sourdough bread. Although their avocado toast did not blow me away, Boudin Bakery and Cafe is definitely not a bad place to stop for a light or hearty lunch while shopping in the mall. read more

I love Boudin and have frequented for two decades, but this location is hit or miss. The last time I placed an order for pick up, I experienced two problems. The first was my bread bowl was substituted with a small bread turtle without my knowledge. That was a little disappointing since the bread bowl is part of the experience, which I paid extra for, but I tried to brush it off since inventory might've been low. The second problem was cheese was missing from my CA veggie sandwich. While the food was edible, I was sad that it wasn't exactly what I ordered. I gave them another chance a month later and the experience was worse, to my surprise. The clam chowder tasted foul and smelled off, which I've never encountered before, and the loaf of bread molded within 12 hours. I know these loaves are supposed to be fresh, but I've never heard of fresh bread molding within a day, which leads me to believe the bread was old, most likely from the day before or prior. The sandwich has been consistently good, though. Avoid the clam chowder unless you want to gamble with your money and food. If you buy "fresh" bread, throw it in the freezer because it won't last long otherwise. The attention to detail needs to be improved, since I see others have experienced similarly. Please take the time to train staff thoroughly so simple mistakes are avoided. I'll consider trying again in several months if the reviews are good. read more

Pair it with salad and you got a semi healthy meal. 2). Customer Service. Fast and helpful. No issues on this end. 3). Atmosphere. Located on the far side of the mall where the old Macy's was. They have seats inside but they have seats and tables available outside if its gets busy. Warm and cozy spot. Not as crazy as the food court. 4). Others. They have fresh bread and canned clam chowder that you can take home. Very busy mall so parking is hard most of the time. One of our favorites every time we return back to the city. I really wanted some clam chowder since it was a rainy day. I do not have any pictures sorry I was really hungry. My husband and I waited in line and noticed the store was busy and understaffed. The cashier stated we would have to take our food to go since indoor seating was full. We waited and saw two tables open up. We had to clean our own tables and asked for our food to be placed "for here" instead of "to go". Everyone seemed miserable and looked like they hated their jobs. They ran out of bread bowls cause of the deal so they actually gave us dinner rolls instead which we can use. So they were pretty cool. If I could I'd give negative zero. I used to frequent Boudin's downtown for lunch. It was quality made and presented and good decent food. This sandwich was just plain bad in every way. Service, prep, quality of food, ambience; all bad. Got the chicken sandwich which I always used to get. There was MAYBE a quarter cup of old sad looking chicken salad spread thin on the bread that didn't even cover the sourdough slice. Way more bread than anything in between. The grapes in the salad were smooshy and old, and the lettuce was wilted. It was just plain bad and very poorly assembled and presented. I ate inside. They served me on a paper plate. The service was crap, no smile, no thank you, nothing welcoming a total waste of money and food. Terrible experience in every way. Don't know how they stay in business. Never again. read more

The consistency hits home and tastes so good with the sourdough bread. Shoutout to the worker who bagged my order because he gave me a sourdough dinner roll on the house! So nice!!! Whenever I think of soup and sandwiches, Boudin and Panera always come to mind. I am such a big fan of their Best of Boudin combo with Rustic Tomato soup + Ham n' Brie that I have no option but to give any Boudin 5 stars (unless something is just really wrong there for some reason). At this location, I always dine outside so I would take my number and cup of water to the tables out in the mall and the waitress would bring the food to my table. If you like bread, I recommend getting one of their loyalty cards, we just redeemed a huge loaf of sourdough for free the other day. Rustic Tomato soup -- be ready to chug a lot of water with this one, I am sure it is so high in sodium but it is so good that I crave for it regardless. I love the shreds of cheddar on top and the croutons are so savory. Ham n' Brie -- I LOVE brie, so being drawn to this sandwich was a no-brainer. This sandwich has smoked ham, brie, and arugula with a cranberry dijon sauce sitting between rosemary focaccia. I've never really been a fan of focaccia, this is the only situation so far that I don't mind it at all. They have so many options here, including a good selection of salads, I often see people standing at the entrance looking at the menu. Awful experience. Ordered sandwich and soup. When I went to go sit down and wait for my order, a worker took out a bag of garbage, walked near me and spilled garbage juice all over my pants and shoes without any apology or acknowledgement. I let him know about the spill when he came back and he just shrugged and gave a half ass "oh sorry". 5 minutes later while waiting, I noticed on my receipt that I was overcharged by $8. Every time I've come to this location, it's always been disappointing and a let down. After coming into the city from over a hundred miles away they either have always been out of the one pound bread because it was the afternoon, which I get goes fast. But after this current visit, this was the last straw where they messed up big. So this time, to ensure I had the one pound loaf ready for me, I ordered it through the mobile app along with the 12 pack cookies Boudin has. So once I finally picked up my order, they had my bread ready and correct, but as for the cookies, they gave me four gigantic ones. In which I didn't want, and just wanted a refund instead because I just wanted the 12 pack. And they were like "Oh, sorry, we don't carry those ones." Then why would you put that as option on the app when you don't carry it!?! Then the lady also told me she tried calling me, but I checked my phone and still didn't see any incoming calls from them. That goes to show the staff here at this location are disappointing, pathetic, and dishonest in their service! The quality too of the products here is a total ripoff! I haven't ate at this Boudin location in a while and my little sister was craving it since we were at the mall. We ordered my sister's soup and waited... and waited... and waited... mind you, no one was in line in front of us. We noticed everyone who ordered after us was getting their food. We ordered her little soup to go. No biggie, we weren't upset, just noticed this was happening. My sister glanced over and said, "Wait, the soup is in plastic bags and sitting in those metal cans warming..." I looked over, and sure enough, there are large metal pails where the servers were getting the soup from and serving. I turned to my sister and said, "I don't think that's safe, it's a known fact that plastic that's warmed is dangerous to your health, it goes into your food." She nodded and agreed. She's a nurse so she knows this already. She turned to me and said, "It's okay, I'll just ask for a refund, they haven't served my food yet anyways." She went up to one of the girls and asked for a refund, the girl didn't say anything and just pointed to the girl who was turning around about to face us. The girl that's getting pointed at with the other girl's thumb goes "huh?" And the girl says something under her breath super low and my sister says, "Oh, I would just like a refund." The lady, with black hair and looks to be around her late 20's early 30's says, "I can serve it for you now." My sister replies, "No, it's okay, it's just that I didn't know the soup was warming up in plastic." The lady's face immediately changes into anger and she got snappy and "We aren't cooking the food in plastic." My sister said, "It's okay, I just want a refund." Again, the lady gets aggressive and replies, "If we leave the soup in there for too long and it burns, it contaminates the food that's why they're in plastic." The younger girl who we originally asked for a refund looks over at us and looks irritated cause she can hear us talking about it, and then they make eye contact with each other. My sister then gets her refund. As we're walking away, we see a older white gentlemen coming out from the kitchen with a huge plastic bag with soup that is CLEARLY scolding hot and is attempting to place it into one of the pail. Again, horrible... Let's think about this logic for a second. Yes, you're not cooking it in plastic, but you're putting scolding hot soup into plastic and letting it sit under a heater that keeps the food HOT to serve to customers. What do you think happens to the plastic?!? If the food burns, what do you think is happening to the plastic when it's sitting for hours under heat while in those metal pails? My family and I have worked in the restaurant business all of our lives. We have a restaurant and a bakery. This statement made no sense whatsoever, if your soup is burning, that means you need to make less & change it out more often or make sure to stir it occasionally while taking off of the heat to give it a break from continuously being heated. The first thing my sister said when we walked away was, "I don't know what was her problem, I was nice about it. I just wanted a refund and she gave me hella attitude." Listen, if you don't enjoy your job, just leave. All you had to say was, "No problem, I'll give you a refund." Needless to say, I wouldn't recommend this location and I highly advise other Boudin locations not to have their hot soups in plastic or hire rude employees who have no impulse control. read more

There were plenty of people inside and outside seating was also packed but despite of all that they managed to get our orders in. Soon after we were seated our food came right away. We ordered two of the clam chowder bread bowl. Which was fullfilling. I just thought that the bowl wasn't deep enough just like how they have it on the pier. But its ok tho it was delicious. 01/31/2014: Nice location conveniently adjacent to Macy's Stonestown Galleria Shopping Center. A healthier alternative was part of my finding and I also wanted to find a quiet spot to eat at. That is also when Boudin came to my mind. I ordered the Rustic Tomato Soup and Chicken Caesar Salad. The soup and salad combo was absolutely delicious. Flavoring of my meal was perfect, it wasn't too light nor was it too heavy. Bread and butter came as a complement! The bread was so delicious that I'd buy a loaf of it to munch on as a quick snack. Reasons for rating: - Clean facility (+1) - Nice friendly staff (+1) - Good food (+1) - Good service (+1) There are seats available so that is a good thing. I only come here for the clam chowder and the salads! I know other people may disagree with me but I love the clam chowder here. I only get the salad because I like the portion size of the salads here. I always say that I won't eat the mall food at Stonestown but if I do I always try to go here first before anywhere else. I like that when I come here I feel as though I get my food fresh and it has a clean taste to it as opposed to some of the other food places in the mall. The other plus that I really appreciate is that there is plenty of seating. Whether you choose to sit inside Boudin or in the outside seating. Either way you can sit and wait to be served, that is winning for me! Table service for me is hospitality at it's finest, in my opinion. I appreciate those who are willing to wait tables because shows that they not only work hard but have humility, at least from my standpoint. Good service all around. The clam chowder though is just fantastic. I rarely get the breadbowl because I make a huge mess and my chowder tends to spill out of the bowl, bowl issues! The caesar salad is not bad either. They give a lot of lettuce and chicken but not a lot of croutons. For whatever reason, I always wind up with a less than a handful of croutons but I make due. Haven't been there in over a year and decided to go with my aunt. I got the California Veggie sandwich and it just wasn't as good as I remember - it honestly tasted like something I could have made at home..nothing special enough to make me want to order it again. The bigger problem was that we were overcharged for a 3rd entree we didn't ever order. I didn't realize it until we got to the main food court in the center of the mall (there was no room in the restaurant to sit) and by that time we were settled and I didn't feel like walking all the way back to complain.
