3 1/2 Stars. I came here because I had a hankering for some Clam Chowder in a bread bowl and they serve it every day as opposed to most places just serving it on Fridays. I ordered the Boudin Combo which I customized to Clam Chowder in a bread bowl (duh) and a half Caesars Salad. It came to a tad over $9 with tax which I thought was a little pricey. I had a seat in a booth and enjoyed the quiet atmosphere. My meal was delivered to me after a short wait. The soup looked really good and the salad could have been more ample. Even so, the lettuce was fresh and the dressing tasted fine. The soup was good. I liked how it was all potatoes like Soup Plantation (which I contemplated going to since it is right next door and could have gotten a lot more food for the same amount of money). There was decent amounts of clams and the chowder had just the right amount of texture to it. The sourdough bread bowl was perfect. It better have been since it's what they specialize in. Very fluffy with a nice chewy crusty shell. My only complaint is the portion size for the money. I wish it was bigger because it was very good. A little better than Shore House's, but theirs is a lot bigger and a dollar or two cheaper. I have to try Panera Bread's version before I make a final judgement on where my favorite place for Bread Bowl soups is. read more

In my quest to be a chili connoisseur, a friend recommended Boudin SF for their bread and soup expertise. Was not disappointed, the chili and clam chowder were extremely satisfying. Portions are big. When you walk in, you are greeted with cute bread crabs and other creations made from bread adorning the back wall, it's endearing. read more

For years all I ever ate here was the chowda in a breadbowl and I realy like it. Then one day I got borred and started trying other stuff and was impressed. The food here is always high quality, tastes good, and is reasonably priced (borderline too pricy). Heck, this one place I've found where I am comfortable orderig a salad... and I'm not realy even a salad kinda guy. All in all, classy joint... I come here often and the food is consistently great but this review is strictly for the employees. The are always nice and courteous but today there was a gentleman named Peter than went above and beyond for a customer who was handicapped. Not only did he serve him his food but filled up his coffee cup asking him how many creams and sugars to make sure it was just right. It's these little things that you don't see often because everyone is worried about themselves or what the company is asking them to do aka clean this or clean that. was staying at a hotel right next to Boudin. went there on 1/28/10 for lunch. was packed and for a minute i was not thinking about corporate lunch hour. Flew overnight from Florida, not adjusted to the time change heh. but anyways. Boudin reminded me somewhat of Panera. Had the clam chowder in the sourdough bread bowl.. that sourdough was great.. Excellent service & staff - prompt deliveries & dependable!! My company orders catering from this branch quite a bit and we've had an excellent experience! I'm from San Francisco myself, and their sourdough bread hands down is the best. I've always loved their clam chowder in a bread bowl, and when I found out that they were opening up a store in Irvine I was beyond excited. Their catering menu turned out to be a huge hit with our clients as well. We order from a variety of different places to change it up for clients, but I feel like we order from Boudin's on average, once a week. Why? Not only because the sandwiches (like the chicken aioli, chicken pesto, turkey avocado, etc. are such hits) and their salads (Thai chicken salad & even their house salad with their croutons made from their sourdough bread) are fantastic but the service and dependability is unmatched. read more

One think I really, really love is fresh-baked sour dough bread. I had the sour dough bread bowl of vegetarian chili. It was delicious. The service is great, and fast. You walk in, order at the counter, pour your own drink, and seat yourself, and after a few minutes, out pops your order. The bread was perfect, crispy on the outside, fresh and doughy on the inside. The vegetarian chili was mouth-watering. I'll be back. Also, it was all for just $7.95. Great deal. read more

The chicken was flavorful but the sourdough bread was so hard I couldn't Take a bite.. So I had to take everything a part.. I don't like to complaint but I'm getting tire of ppl/ restaurant etc... Messing up what I order or what I want! Or maybe is my luck... Sucks when you are super hungry and no time to go back and return the food!... Literally the dirtiest Boudin I have ever been too. The restaurant isn't busy at all but there is no one available to clean a majority of the tables that have crumbs and lefts over food and plates on all the tables. On top of that I had trouble finding someone that would even wipe down the table for me so I can eat on a clean table without food crumbs and sauce spilled all over. read more

this has become one of my favorite lunchtime staples during the work week. after trying Boudin SF in OC for the first time at the Costa Mesa location (not the one in South Coast Plaza) with a friend, and both of us getting food poisoning, i hesitatingly took a second shot at Boudin SF here on Main. I was very glad to have had a vastly different experience. This place attracts the working crowd on weekdays at lunch (and so does the souplantation adjacent to this location). i try to get here around 11:30am. If I'm hungry, I go for one of the grilled cheese sandwich (Which comes with a mediocre salad), plus an additional cup of tomato soup for 2 dollars. If i'm not as hungry, I just go for the half soup, half sandwich combo with tomato soup and chick pesto sandwich. the servers are very nice and cater to any requests you need after they serve you your meal. If you come with a group of 5 or more, they usually have 1 table that can accommodate 6 people with a "reserved" sign on it. once the server sees your group, she or he will offer to open that table up for your group. i was given a survey opportunity after eating at the Boudin in South Coast Plaza, and decided to redeem it at this location for $3 off my purchase. they now have a rewards program. download the boudin app from your phone and get free boudin food! read more

The clam chowder bread bowl is so good! My friend and I got a bowl each, and were both full by the end of the meal! The service was amazing also! I truly wish they had these in Arizona because I would seriously go all the time! My group came here for a late breakfast, a little before clam chower was ready. I was enticed as soon as I walked in with the amazing loaves and rolls sitting and waiting for you to purchase. Since I don't live in the area, I did buy a bag of sourdough rolls to take home. I ordered the ham and cheddar breakfast sandwich and was told clam chower would be ready in about 20-30 minutes (this was around 10AM). Clam chowder in a bread bowl was really the reason I came here in the first place! The breakfast sandwich was good, we sat out on the patio in the amazing weather so that made it even better. About 30 minutes later, we ordered the clam chowder to go, along with some sourdough turtle loaves (yes, they are shaped like turtles!) and some chocolate chip cookies. I wasn't crazy about the cookies but they did have some other baked goods that looked divine!! I ate the clam chowder in the car on the drive back to AZ...WOW! The soup was incredible!! The bread too is amazing...tried the rolls when I got home and loved them! Good food, good location, good service. What more could you ask for? read more

Review is for this location only. Food: 5 stars Service: 1 star Food: Food is fantastic and consistent with the NorCal locations. Clam chowder was piping hot. Salad was a little too wet for my liking, and I like a lot of dressing, but not enough to mark it down. I think my soup was supposed to be in a bread bowl now that I think about it, but I may be mistaken. Service: 1 girl working the registers. Manager was on the side on the phone for literally 10 minutes while line kept getting longer. When somebody ordered a coffee drink, she had to do it herself. Her back was to customers for a couple minutes (big no-no) then she realized she did it wrong, so she had to do it again (manager still on phone). Finally, the manager gets off the phone and starts ringing up customers...no apology, no personality, and softest voice ever. Busser brought my food over...this one too had no personality and barely even said a word. Lastly, the cleanliness...There were so many crumbs all over the floor it looked like someone got a bag of bread crumbs and waved it above their head. I understand everything there has bread, but at least clean it up some during the day, it was awful. Also, parking is confusing. There's signs everywhere but every space is limited to a certain business, mainly Souplantation. There's a big garage behind, but who wants to park in a parking garage just for a quick bite. It would take longer to park than actually eat. Corporate needs to come down from SF and make some managerial changes here. read more

I just had their Chicken Caesar Sandwich, a relatively new menu item I think. The sandwich for me is a 5+ star item. The best chicken sandwich I have had in recent memory period. I have lived and worked near this place for fifteen years and come here only occasionally due to the terrible parking arrangements. If you can find a place to park though, highly recommend the sandwiches, the bread is awesome as well and the soup is quite tasty. I will likely come here more often on account of that sandwich... Excellent service! We came all the way from Yorba Linda to have a brie fig jam apple sandwich. Unfortunately they were out of the fig jam and we didnt want to have the sandwich w out the fig jam so we ordered something else and the attendant apologized and was so kind and comp'd us for what I had to order as an alternative. Later as we were eating they came out w the brie fig sandwich as they were able to find fig jam! We were over the moon excited. Boudin employee didnt have to do that but she went above and beyond and we were so grateful. My husband loved the food. We are customers for life!! read more

Food: French Dip: comes with a lightly dressed side salad. The French Dip comes with a decent amount roast beef between sourdough bread. The sauce with the French Dip is absolutely Delicious. Highly recommend. Turkey avocado sandwhich & clam chowder: The turkey avocado sandwhich is average but good. It doesn't have avocado slices it has an avocado spread. The claim chowder was good as well. Service: very warm environment and the employees are very helpful when ordering and serving. They forgot my sauce for the French dip and were very apologetic and brought it out in a very timely manner. Great service. Would recommend for lunch or dinner. read more

My roommate and I both ordered the soup in a bread bowl and salad combo. We both got clam chowder and the Asian style chicken salad. Very delicious! The portions are generous, I wasn't expecting so much food! Nor was I expecting the salad to be as good as it was. The only reason this place didn't get 5 stars from me was because the girl at the cash register was not their best employee to say the least. When my roommate asked how the butternut squash soup was the girl's response was simply, "I don't know. I've never tried it." Mind you her tone of voice wasn't exactly friendly. She didn't even bother to ask one of her coworkers about the soup or anything. Being the sarcastic smart a$$ that I am I wanted to reply, "Mmmm, well that sounds delicious!". Haha... i did not eat at the restaurant, but go through the bakery line to grab 2 loaves of bread. I'm glad it did. I got the garlic volcano bread was really great for days after I bought it. Make sure you have friends to help you take down one of their monster loaves! I was amused by their bakery - complete with moving conveyor belts and alligator cheese loaves staring at you from behind the counter. After all, baking is an art form. read more

We go here twice a week at least. FIrst off, GET A REWARDS CARD! It's so worth it. Every month you earn free bread- which i take home and make garlic bread or sour dough french toast, and you get money off next time you come in. it gets busy during the week at lunch because of surrounding businesses, but its empty during the weekends. The service is great here and the people are nice. There is a window were you can se them make bread, its pretty cool. Oh yeah, The Boudin bakery is different then the Boudin SF. They serve different soups, and we prefer Boudin SF. My sister and I are tomato soup fanatics. There aren't many places that have good tomato soup, seriously. I love their spring salad too. Everything is really fresh and tastes great! The cesar salad, turkey with cranberry, turkey with havarti cheese, veggie chile, and clam chowder are other entrees we love and order frequently! The only thing i've tried and not liked was the garlic tomato soup they serve on Saturdays. I LOVE sourdough! read more

Don't come here if you don't like sourdough! One of my friends tried to have them replace the sourdough bread with regular bread but sadly got denied :/. Normally I'm not a huge fan of it either but it's very subtle and it compliments the soup and sandwiches very well. LOVE how hot the soup comes out. Order the soup and half sandwich combo! If you order just the soup and breadbowl then it'll be 6.78 but if you get the combo then it'll be 9.26. Might as well spend a little more and get a decent sized sandwich out of it. Sadly I'm never completely full after coming here and I absolutely HATE finding a parking spot here so that's where the minus 1 star comes from read more
