My point is, it felt like they gave me an old salad. I understand in this economy you have to salvage what you can but a salad that cost 20 bucks after tax/tip should be fresh and edible at the very least. I had to throw a good majority of it away. I just picked up lunch at Boudin San Marcos. Everything tasted good. I got the spring salad and Havarti sandwich. The lettuce was fresh in the salad. I was not asked if I wanted to add chicken, which I probably would have added. My husband had an Italian sandwich with soup. Both were very good. Let me start this review by saying that I have eaten at this location several times. The food is consistent, the service not so much but as a semi-quick meal restaurant without a real wait staff it's acceptable. Today I placed an online order for a whole tuna melt. A half sandwich was made, but I was charged full price. Thankfully I took off the top piece of bread to inspect what looked like an onion melted in the cheese. Yesterday my wife & I stopped by Boudin for lunch. Pretty long line to order. After waiting for our lunch at a table for at least 20 min. and seeing others get served that ordered after us we started wondering what was up. One of the order counter staff came to our table and remembering our order apologized for the wait said she'd check for us. A few minutes later they brought out our order and the staff member stopped by to apologize again and gave us free cookies as a token of appreciation. We gave her a good tip and were quite amazed by her conscientiousness. Kudos to Boudin for hiring great people! First of all, I ordered this through Doordash. They ran out of clam chowder which was quite disappointing. Never heard of any Boudin Bakery running out of clam chowder if that's what they're known for. Second of all, the food. I'm quite disappointed at the food. For someone who was born and raised in the Bay Area, Boudin has always been the best for me except here. The Pizza Bruschetta was horrifying. It came to us super cold, brick hard, and tasted like cardboard and super doughy. So I'm assuming I've been served leftover pizza that they cooked when? Hours ago, a day ago? And the fact that the dough was still raw underneath the sauce?? This is completely unacceptable and dear god, I hope I do not get sick from this. 0/5 for this pizza and definitely I don't recommend ordering it to go or for delivery if anyone is thinking about ordering this. Came in at 2:00 on a weekday. I appreciate the menu at the door as I was unsure what I would want and it felt less awkward than standing with a cashier waiting awkwardly for me to be ready. Customer service was excellent. I had a few questions he was happy to answer. Coffee was a little stale but it's 2pm so I'll probably skip it next time. Food took a minute but I did see they had a lot of to go orders popping up and it wasn't over the top waiting. Overall very pleased with my experience. Oh and the clam chowder was truly delicious! Probably one of the easiest and most convenient locations. With Awesome parking. Therefore prob my favorite Boudins. Another plus it's not too far from my house:) I love everything on the menu here! Hearty healthy and who doesn't love fresh bread! Today's lunch was delicious- Cali veggie sandwich w/ tomato bisque, and bowl of clam chowder & grilled Brie Granny Smith apple fig jam sandwich -dessert my Royale cookie :) ordered to go but you can dine in now but only on the patio- slowly but surely we will all get back to the normal. Several months ago I had an issue with this same location but I thought I would give them another chance. I ordered via online and when I went to pick up my order, not only was I ignored, I seemed to be bothering the lady who appeared to be a manager asking her what the "bread reward meant". I wasn't able to add it to my car before checking out online so I thought I would ask when I got there..but, apparently I was a bother. She gave me a lot of attitude. When I got home and unpacked my items I was shocked. The salad looked just like a bunch of lettuce thrown in a container with a few pieces of chicken, tortilla strips and that's it! I think I see one grape tomato. I specifically asked in my "comments" online order to CHOP THE LETTUCE and EXTRA DRESSING-NEITHER OF WHICH OCCURED! Then I got my bread bowl and soup. The bread looks delicious, the soup likes like soup...but the cheese they gave me to put on my soup. I don't know why you would even waste a plastic container. A miserable experience. Zero stars if possible. The were out of bread bowls for the clam chowder Saturday at 2pm so I ordered a patty melt. I asked if I could get it medium rare and the answer was yes. After 20 minutes of waiting, the server approached the table and you could see it coming. The burger was cut in half so from across the room you could tell it was well done. So I sent it back. 25 minutes later I went over to ask where my re-do was. As I waited, I could see the burger sitting under the heat lamps. Really? You don't expedite a redo? I asked for the manager and told her what happened. Then I asked for my money back. She didn't seem to care about either. Her ONLY thing she said to me was "It will take 3-5 days to go back on your credit card." Wow. So I left without getting lunch. The lady at the next table over told me it took 1/2 hour to get her meal. To me, I felt the the person who orders the supplies like bread bowls was incompetent. I felt the cook was incompetent. Not the best first experience here. While the customer service was nice, the things we paid for, the food was not. Ordered the French dip which I got with NO au jus dip so it's just a FRENCH sandwich which was also cold, not warm actually cold. I could have made a better sandwich drunk, in the middle of the night with only a nightlight to see what I'm doing. Along with this we ordered the roasted portabello which we were told by the nice cashier lady would be a warm sandwich. Again upon receiving it, it was refrigerator cold. It wasn't a particularly busy time around 7pm on a Thursday night. We waited around 15-20 mins to get our order to go, so I'm not sure where the disconnect is. Unfortunately I will not be returning to this location. I can get a nice, warm and delicious French dip sandwich at WhichWich which I should have just done in the first place. Sometimes trying something new is disappointing. I really hope this location can get things together and better train their employees and have someone check the order for accuracy before handing it out. It's better to have the customer wait a little longer to get the order correct as expected instead of rushing or w/e and lead to a massive disappointment. That's what this is; disappointment. One of our favorite places so when we are in the area we try to get food to bring home. Usually they are very good but today our order was missing our bread bowl and the fishy bread from the kids soup. I should have looked before we headed home but it was sealed up and figured it was all in there.
