We came here for a Sunday dinner. I guess because it's a new place so not that many people know about it. We were the only group who sat indoor in this big restaurant and other customers all sat at the outdoor patio. The service was attentive (again not many customers there on Sunday night). We ordered a bunch of dishes to share. Grilled squid, lamb, and the skirt steak were my favorites. Overall all the dishes were pretty decent but small portions. Sea bass was soooo tiny. When I first heard of this place it was through a friend trying to celebrate their birthday here. We came, and I ordered the crushed avocado. I LOVED IT. The place was really snazzy and clean. Was staying at the hotel next door and tried this place for Brunch over several days out of convenience. It was audited decent, especially for a "Hotel restaurant", which sometimes has me weary of mediocre offerings. They stay was for more than a week and literally all the brunch items were consistently good. It is pricey given its location and hotel location, so my expectations were a little higher, but again they do a good job. I would come back even if I wasn't staying at the hotel. This is a lovely place to stop in for a quick meal. The vegetarian options are lovely here. I recommend the butternut squash soup and beet salad, which are both part of the small plates menu. The cocktails are worth trying, such as the vegan brandy flip. If you are by yourself, like I was when I wrote this review, you might only be able to get a table for yourself for an hour. If a table is not available, perhaps the bar would be your go-to seating area. Either way, the host and wait staff are well-mannered and professional. Given that this restaurant is a little pricey, I highly suggest this place if you want to treat yourself - especially if you do not go out very often - and you happen to be in between traveling to two appointments. read more

We made reservations for a Saturday Brunch and was pleasantly surprised by the nice décor. It's modern but still very cozy. Dimly lit but with some natural sunlight shining in. We got seated close to the bar at a nice booth. They offer a pretty basic brunch menu, but it definitely includes everything you need for a decent brunch. We started with two brunch cocktails, a classic Bloody Mary and a Spritz. Unfortunately, the Bloody wasn't that impressive, it was actually kind of blah. For food we ordered the Ricotta Spread, Whole Grain Pancakes and the Bowery Burger. The Ricotta spread was delicious with the prefect amount of honey and crispy grilled country bread. The pancakes were good but didn't really stand out to me. The Bowery Burger served with caramelized onions and fries was a favorite. Perfectly Juicy. This is the type of place you can bring anyone to and have a great time. It's good for friends, dates and family. It's no super loud or that crowded so it's easy to have a conversation. Let me start by saying how cute this place is! It's attached to a hotel so I didn't expect much but it exceeded my expectations. My fiancé made reservations for 6:30 on a Thursday evening. I showed up a few minutes early and the hosts happily greeted me and suggested I waited at the bar which I didn't have to as my fiancé showed up just then. The ambiance of the entire place was modern yet cozy. The restrooms are located downstairs which also has a private room for about 30 guests and an even more separate room near the kitchen for about 10; I thought that was really cool. We were seated promptly and our waiter came over to take our drink orders. He was very helpful in choosing drinks and even more knowledgable for apps and entrée decisions. We started off with the blooming mushroom, grilled squid, and steak tartar. The mushroom was perfectly cooked and had a beautiful aioli sauce that complimented it. The squid came with black eyed peas, which was a first for me but was tasty non the less! The steak tartar, although not my favorite, was a big fan favorite of my fiancé who usually doesn't usually like raw food. BUT LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THE ENTREES! The chicken!!! The chicken was cooked perfectly, juicy, and savory. It had a little Mexican flare to, with the red rice, which was subtly delicious. I had a flawless medium-rare angus steak with a delightful salad. The portions are just all the right size, shareable for two/three guests. Towards the end of the night, the managers came around and asked the tables how their dinners were going, which I thought was beyond their needs of hospitality. This is my go to brunch or lunch spot. It's great that this is one of few places serve lunch until 4pm. I almost don't want to tell people since I want to keep it myself... Food is always consistent and service is nice. A few outside table is a big bonus for a nice day on this surprisingly quiet street near busy Union Sq Park. Bowery Road is the most unexpectedly wonderful restaurant you could dine at in Union Square. It's located in a hotel, but this inconspicuous little spot really packs a punch. They have a great patio that you can sit and people watch at and the interior has a super hip but relaxed vibe. This place is absolutely wonderful! I came here late on a Friday night about 2 hours before they closed and we sat out on the patio. The waitstaff was wonderfully patient, friendly, happy, and the food was delicious. Some friends and I split bottles of wine and a number of different appetizers and entrees. The waitstaff was patient while we sat for about an hour to drink wine before we even placed any food orders. Once we did place an appetizer order we went with the ricotta dip & the steak tartare. The ricotta was so delicious-- smooth, creamy, and the perfect amount of saltiness. They also served it with a good amount of bread so you weren't left with tons of extra dip and nothing to wipe it up with. The steak tartare was equally as satisfying. It comes with some type of potato chip on top which was great for scooping up the little pieces of steak. Mixing the ricotta and the steak tartare on the grilled bread served with the ricotta app was a killer combination! Once we ordered entrees, we went with the USQ Market Grain Bowl & the Certified Angus Bavette Cut. Wow, these entrees were outstanding. The grain bowl, albeit basic, had a wonderful seasoning added to it and came with a nice accompaniment of greens and some avocado. While we shared the steak and grain bowl, if this would be your main entree alone it could definitely satisfy you on its own. The steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and was served with some sort of mashed potato log thing. They called it a "root vegetable rosti", but it really did just taste like mashed potatoes that they formed into a log and then fried or somehow made crispy on the outside-- whatever it was, it really was surprisingly addictive and we could've had a plate of just that side! Overall the entrees were super delicious and I'd go back again and order these exact same items! To finish off our meal, we ordered two "Carter beats the devil" cocktails. These had Tequila Cabeza, Vida Mezcal, habanero, lime, & agave. Man, these drinks were awfully spicy and super strong! We didn't particularly like the taste due to the super spice of it, but it was fun to try something new. I wouldn't particularly recommend this drink unless you really do love spice, as the sweetness from the agave wasn't really present. They have a bunch of other fun creative cocktails too that I'd like to try some time. This place isn't overly expensive and the portions are really reasonably sized for what you pay. This would be a great place to bring a date, go out with friends, or even a nice dinner out with colleagues if you work in the area. What a great new spot! I came here for brunch with a friend and wow was the menu great! I will definitley be coming back to try more. We had the ricotta spread for an app which was to die for. We also had the two organic eggs which was filled with delicious flavors and the potatoes were to die for, and very garlicky. My friend had the egg sandwich and also said it was delicious. The bread here is incredible! For drinks we had a nitro cold brew filled with whisky and a spritz. The is HUGE for plenty of seating, super modern, and a full menu. We had a reservation, and the place was pretty empty. It took 30-45 minutes to get a drink, and the food was slow too. The server didn't seem to care about taking our orders, or cleaning anything up. He just kept leaving everything on the table, so we ended up having a big stack or dishes and glasses just sitting there. The humus, fries, sundae, and pizzas were very good though. It's pretty and spacious, disguised from the crowds by the hotel that houses it. New Yorkers are so easy to trick with canny marketing, especially for brunch. While the sheeple are filling up the walkways outside overrated no-reservations joints like Jack's Wife Freda and Grey Dog, my friends and I took our OpenTable seats (including a high chair for my friend's daughter) in calm, orderly fashion. Bowery Road was a fallback option when the place I wanted to meet a friend turned out to be closed. Located alongside the Hyatt Union Square, this former club space has been converted into a modern American restaurant with a gorgeous and welcoming decor. Large windows let light flood into the front whereas the back is lit by Edison bulbs resulting in a very warm feel. Dark wood and a wide open area make for a very inviting space. Since I was just meeting a friend for drinks, I sat at the bar. The bartender set up my seat quickly (small mat, bottle of water etc.). The cocktail selection was right up my alley. I wound up getting the "Secret Garden" featuring Four Roses Bourbon, Lemon, Rosemary Infused Simple, Chartreuse, Unsweetened Iced Tea Cube. For some reason, I thought "unsweetened ice tea cube" was some type of euphemism. But no, when the drink came there was indeed a giant iced tea cube in there! The drink was really tasty. Interestingly, while the flavors of bourbon, lemon, rosemary etc. are all very present, there was not much of an alcohol hit, which I liked. The cube was big enough that it lasted the entire drink and then some. If you're into bourbon, this drink is definitely worth it. Oddly, the bartender that had served me disappeared partway through my visit and did not appear again until it was time to get my bill (maybe about a half hour). During that time, I did see a couple people doing things behind the bar, but I could never get their attention (one gent was very furiously mashing something that I couldn't see). Had this not been the case I would have easily given this place a 4 star review (think of this one as 3.5). As a snack to share with my friend I had the Greenmarket Frittata (mushrooms, tomato, spinach, fontina cheese) which was nicely cooked and tasty. I would definitely get it again. One of my favourite restaurants. The food is incredible, as are the drinks (the large can give about 3-4 cocktails). I highly recommend the burrata, mushroom flatbread, rigatoni (mushroom bolognese), and the chicken. I believe their menu changes seasonally. Recently went twice in one week. We had the tartare, which was nice and fresh with some homemade chips and shaver cheese. Really peppery with well cooked shrimp and immaculately poached eggs. Absolutely polished the bowl. Lastly the eggs sandwich which was nice and large and came with a side of potatoes that blew our minds. Crispy and salty and homey. They were worth getting all on their own. I was really anticipating eating at Bowery Road: the combination of New American food, cocktails, and hotel atmosphere was poised to scratch my bougie spot good. What can I say? Some days you want to treat yourself and also have a conversation at a normal volume. I'm relatively soft-spoken and I was nearly the loudest person in the restaurant. I'd come back here for the sole reason that I didn't leave with a sore throat. That's not to say Bowery Road is stuffy. The waiters are friendly and will give you recommendations; the menu is not at all pretentious (though I did have to fish out a massive garnish out of my drink); and did I mention how nice and peaceful it is inside? Unfortunately, the one drawback involves the high prices. The three dollar signs is pretty accurate. Just a note that Bowery Road is inside the Union Square Hyatt hotel but they have their own street entrance. I did not know this and spent a good few minutes wandering around in the hotel lobby and making confused faces at the diners sitting right by the windows leading to the lobby. Don't be me. The entrance is closer to 12th Street than 13th. Started off with a fizzy blueberry drink. It was nice and light enough but I liked my friend's spicy jalepeno drink way more. Everything on the menu screamed at me but we got the grilled squid and the crushed avocado to start. When they say "small plates," they do mean small. I suppose that's where the bougie-ness comes in. The squid, though perfectly cooked and galaxies away from the rubbery, deep-fried mess that I grew up eating, came in four slivers. The black-eyed peas on the side also had awesome bits of bacon. The crushed avocado (... it's guac, for crying out loud) was nicely seasoned but what really stood out about the dish was the seeded crackers. Those things are so good, I couldn't stop eating them. I could eat a whole plate of them on their own. I wasn't terribly hungry so I got the summertime salad. Let's just say the "Plants & Grains" section of the menu certainly befits the appetite of a rabbit. It came with a tart dressing and lots of shaved carrots but the portion size definitely does not justify the $12-13 price tag. If you don't mind paying about $25-30 for a plant-based dinner, I would get two items from "Plants & Grains." My friends' burger and pork looked more filling. Overall, a great place to have a quiet, grown-up dinner but the price tag to portion size ratio doesn't quite push Bowery Road into 5-star territory for me. read more

I went with my friend, and we ordered two appetizers and one main to share. All three, Roasted Brussels Sprouts, Roasted Cauliflower, and Branzino, were amazing and cooked to perfection. I would order the same three dishes again if I go back. Brussels sprouts were well seasoned and cooked thoroughly, leafy part tender and center part still retaining the texture. Cauliflowers were juicy, complemented by the garnishes. I was pleasantly surprised to find mayonnaise as the sauce, but great nonetheless. The only complaint I'd have would be the portion size for branzino. While I'm aware we shared a single main dish, but if I were to eat the whole thing by myself, I'd still want a little bigger size for the price. This is a fancy pants place for brunch nestled away in a Hotel off from Union Square park. I came in for brunch with a friend the other week and we threw down. Drink I would recommend - The Clover Club - London Dry Gin, Strawberry, St. George Raspberry, Lemon, Egg White. I haven't had a drink this good in a long time and I was just sipping my friends because I honestly was too hungover to even drink at our brunch. But this was sex in a cup. The pure definition of everything you want out of a drink in life. Okay, I'm moving on to food. We were situated outside so I didn't see much of the inside other than noting that it was dark but with gorgeous details in the architecture, lighting, a winding swirly staircase that leads you downstairs to a winding passage of bathrooms. The service was outstanding. They checked on us constantly but at the right moments to make sure we were fat and happy. I was somewhat in my happy place because a dog costume contest also was going on down the street at the time. Small plates - My personal favorite was the Peekytoe Crab Toast. It was light and with a hint of citrus but the crab tasted insanely fresh and delicious. The steak tartare was also delicious and innovative with crispy sunchokes and shaved pecorino, maybe some capers I tasted. For our mains my friend went with the Bowery Burger - they cooked that thing to perfection. It was so medium rare it was mooing. The accompanying sauce had a nice tang to it. Short ribs egg benedict - pretty good. The short rib tasted excellent. I think I wasn't feeling the english muffin like base. There was nothing wrong with it but it didn't impress me as much as other things that came to the table. If you like a wow taste of flavor order the dish called 'the chicken or the egg' in a mole verde sauce with fresh crema and buckets and buckets of cilantro. It's like eating a fragrant broth with cilantro and a cheesy sour cream sauce with ribbons of succulent chicken and perfectly poached eggs. What a dish. Also, their pineapple upside down french toast is one of the more unique and tasty spins I've seen on french toast, which isn't something I would normally eat or try (I like savory brunches) but this is a winner dish as well. Really impressed with everything Bowery Road has to offer and I bet their cocktail hour and dinner is just as great as their brunch. read more

Had a lovely al fresco dinner with my bf on Sunday night. After having this place bookmarked since it opened, it didn't disappoint. Food, wine, service, and setting were perfect. The menu changes a bit every now and then (I guess depending on seasonal ingredients as they source from Union Square Farmers' Market). We shared the crushed avocado and tomato chutney appetizer ($12) which came with homemade flaxseed and sesame crackers. It was such so perfect! Avocados were fresh and ripe and the crackers were like something I haven't had in a while. I wished they sold those separately. Server said they make them in-house with ingredients from Chelsea market. As mains, I had the grilled branzino ($24) with Jersey corn succotash and sauce verte. The sauce was incredible and made an otherwise plain dish stand out. My boyfriend had the burger ($16), which he said it was good (Pat Lafrieda beef). Wine selection was very good. I love the menu is divided by the body of the wine (for reds "Lean & Elegant", "Sturdy & Savory" and "Robust & Rich"). We had a 2008 Tempranillo Lopez Heredia from Spain ($58) which was delicious and perfect temperature (I could tell they had it in a wine fridge). For dessert we had the cheesecake, sent with complementary vanilla and caramel ice cream. It was amazing! Save room for it. Will be back to try that beer can chicken and their appetizers that looked very interesting.
