Great booth areas and very close to Regal Union Square movie theater. The host (don't recall his name but I know he's a cancer like my friend) and server - Gerardo were friendly, accommodating, and made for a lovely meal. Everyone was personable and in good spirits. Meeting friends for a birthday. I'm early, they're stuck in traffic, and I wanted a nice place to relax for the next movie time available. (Recently had surgery and didn't want to be cramped up in a Starbucks or sandwich spot today). Birthday woman went to exchange tickets and was able to meet me for a great impromptu lunch. Suggestions from host were perfect as we were slightly in a rush. Temperature of burger/fries were pleasurably hot. Extra dipping sauces without a fuss. An unexpected gem for the area Bowery Road is a gorgeous restaurant located in the Hyatt hotel off of union square, on what is generally a lunch or quick meal based street the food quality and decor of this place definitely overdeliver. My recommendation, sit at the bar, because if not your arm will get tired from the amount of times you want to flag down the waiter. (One exception the table always had water). And this was not because it was an incredibly busy night, the dinner just felt generally unattended. Service aside, the food is good, like really good. The fluke was bright and beautifully plated, the spreads were demolished as soon as they were brought to our table and I opted for the chicken two ways which delivers a lovely roasted chicken breast and fried thigh (the sauce really makes this dish). One note if you get this, get a side of vegetables or something to cut the heaviness (amazing heaviness) of the dish. read more

Eat at your own risk. My boyfriend and I have visited this restaurant twice. Both times we got the avocado dip, I got the grain bowl, and he got the short rib ragu. All the dishes were good, and the ambiance is lovely. HOWEVER, a few hours after our second visit last week, my boyfriend got extremely sick. He was in such bad shape that we went to the hospital in the middle of the night. The ER doctor finally concluded that he had a bad case of food poisoning. Came here tonight to get a nice, comfortable dinner with my fiancée after a long week of work. Amazing find by me! First, the restaurant has a very fantastic decor; very suitable for an after drink and small bites. Food wise I have to say is more than I expected. I love their veggie dishes; they were rich yet not too salty. I also had the chicken which is in line with good restaurants in the area. Finally, Max our server gave us supreme hospitality. First he offered us to turn the AC warmer after my fiancé requested. Just the gesture is appreciated. After my previous review I was contacted by general manager of Bowery Road and invited to come back and try the restaurant again. I will admit that the experience was much better this time around. Both the server staff and front reception were very accommodating. Upon entering we were shown to our table promptly and given a menu to view what was offered that night. While looking at the menu we were given complimentary rosé which was much appreciated. Drinks: I had ordered the blackberry smash which was not too strong and had a great mix of sweetness with bourbon. Appetizer: We had ordered the peekytoe crab toast and it was quite delicious. The crab was flavorful and not too heavy, the aioli and jalapeno complimented the flavors and served on a rustic piece of toast. We were also given the ricotta spread with grilled bread which was additionally very tasty. The ricotta was creamy and rich as if you were eating that layer in a lasagna. Entree: I ordered the roasted ora king salmon dish and my girlfriend ordered the creekstone skirt steak. The salmon dish had an interesting mix of both vegetables, pieces of clementine, and a buttery salmon with crispy skin. Overall it was a very well cooked dish. The steak came out a perfect medium rare with a topping of bearnaise butter. For sides, the watercress salad and charred shishito peppers were okay. I may not be a fan of the watercress salad due to the bite it had when next to the steak. Dessert: We ordered the coconut layer cake and were given the carrot cake/ice cream sundae as a complimentary gift. Both were very tasty although I am not sure how I feel about the cream cheese ice cream. It was definitely different. The coconut cake however was very very tasty. OVERALL: The food was never the problem for me at this place. It was as delicious as I remember from last time. The service is what really stood out this time. Our server, I will not try to pronounce his first name because I'll probably butcher it but I just called him Mr. Rivera. Both attentive and very nice, this is what the experience should have been from the start. We came here to check it out for an event we're planning. The hostess was very nice. We showed up around 2:30 on a Saturday and we were seated immediately. They have two levels, the bathroom is downstairs and it is set up with open sinks and mirrors and individual stalls that are gender assigned, but used by anyone. There is access to a gym, so this restaurant must be associated with the hotel next door? They start you off with an guacamole dip and cracker like bread. the guacamole is fresh and tasty. The juice looks like it is fresh squeezed. The coffee is strong and tasty. We got the brioche French toast, it was really good. The chicken and waffles are really good as well. The chicken by itself is worth returning for. Chicken and waffles! we got the steak and eggs, it was also good quality beef and it was on top of a chimichuri? sauce. it comes with a side salad. Overall, the food was excellent beginning to end. The space and atmosphere are nice as well. The restaurant opens up to the sidewalk. I will definitely be back for the chicken and waffles. read more

Most sure if NYC is different than other cities in this respect, but the fact a restaurant is in a hotel is most definitely not a reason to stay away ... in many cases, it's a reason to go. Bowery Road is in this second category. LOVED the ambiance and decorations! It's intimate, but not stuffy and simply elegant. Cocktails are very good .. well I really should just say cocktail as I stuck with the Smoke Signal as it was very refreshing . Caveat it's on the sweet side so certainly not for everyone, but if you do like sweet you have to try it! Now on to the food ... I will definitely have to come back as we went with just appetizers and it was more than enough to do I was left wanting to try some of the entrees that looked amazing (eg., rigatoni). For appetizers. We shared burrata, ricotta, crispy brussels , mashed avocado and roasted beets ... nothing was left on the plate and it was 3 of us sharing! The one thing they could improve and the sole reason why I'm not giving 5 stars is because service is a tad slow. Very good food and service. James our server was attentive and accommodating; he recommended pretty much our entire meal for the evening and we got an excellent experience! The burrata was one of my favorites, as well as the mussels which were very fresh and super tasty. For the main course we ended up getting the steak which was cooked to perfection. The branzino which was one of the best I've ever tried, super good with that chimichurri sauce that it comes with. I would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. This is my favorite place in the area. I usually come here for drinks and have been serviced by the one and only Cesar at the bar. He has a great personality, wonderful service and is very accommodating. During my visits I have also had the pleasure of getting serviced by Mayte, just ask for her too. Didn't love this place. Writing this review because I had high hopes for this one given the high rating but was disappointed with the experience. I guess I would describe it as bland (food & atmosphere). We came in on a Friday night. When all of the restaurants around this one were packed with customers sitting outside enjoying the weather this one only had 4 tables outside (not available at the moment) and the inside was huge, dark and empty - not super cozy and inviting like a lot of NYC restaurants with character. We ordered the prefix menu which was actually a really good deal. For $38 we got chilled pea soup (really lacking flavor, regretted this one wish we ordered the tartare) and the ricotta (nice presentation, maybe could have used more honey? have had better) as appetizers, followed by a steak for each of us (pretty good! just came out a little cold), and two deserts - chocolate cake (have had way better) and the cheesecake (also not a fan). The summary? A ton of food but not that unique/tasty. Service wasn't the best which added to the experience. Waiter didn't know how to answer some of the basic questions we were asking about the food/drinks, ignored our directions (can we have an extra bowl for the soup? don't pack the ice cream in the desert to go box because it will melt) and was a bit awkward. Won't be coming back to this one. Experience was not at the NYC level that I was expecting given the rating. Just average and a little dull. read more

It was comical how bad my service was. I waited 15 mins for the hostess to stop talking to a table she knew so she could notice I was waiting for a table. The waitress had to tell her I was waiting. Then once I was seated I waited 15 mins to have a bottle of water after I watched two other tables who were seated after me receive water. Then when I received my water the manger rolled his eyes as if bringing me water was an issue and inconvenience for him. The restaurant was pretty empty. The waitress brought my meal and never offered to refill my drink or check on me. The food was good so it's a shame that the service was what it was. I blame the manager more than my waitress. Very underwhelming experience. Went with a friend, we ordered a tuna salad and a grain bowl with chicken. It took nearly 40 minutes and then the chicken was raw. When we asked the waiter to take the chicken back, there was no apology. Another waiter brought the dish back to the table and said nothing (not even a "sorry for the delay".... just literally sat it down and walked away). The food itself was good, but not great. Came here for brunch, and only at the end did I realize it was in a hotel. The atmosphere is upscale, chic, simple, but also made sense once I realized it was in a hotel. It doesn't feel like a place that your in and you realize you are in NYC, you feel like you could be anywhere. Would be great for HH ( food and alcohol for great deals!), and was suitable for brunch, but I feel like theres a lot better, more creative options. My omelette (cheddar/bacon) was delicious, extremely fluffy, with white cheddar (the best), however the bacon was canadian bacon/ham, which was still good. Bread was average and the greens it came with were a nice touch. Mimosas not served til 11, but were exactly what we needed. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here, and probably wouldn't go here for dinner as there are many more 'NYC' type places with specialized food, but it was great for what we needed it to be. read more

Arrived at 7:45, ordered at a 3 course meal at 8:00 and didn't receive appetizers until 8:40, which given our starvation we ate in a few minutes... it was then another half hour wait for entrees, and then another half hour for dessert. We asked for the food multiple times and the server seemed confused at our impatience, when a simple dinner took well over two hours to be served on a weeknight! I was happy to discover another happy hour place in the Union Square area. The happy hour is 4-7 and they have both food and drinks. The selections for both are very good. Most places give low quality choices for happy hour but the happy hour menu here has very nice choices. I had the tuna tartare appetizer, fries and a glass of rose. All was absolutely delicious. Service could have been better. The bartender was very nice and gave great service until the bar filled up. She had zero help. It was unfortunate as the rest of the restaurant was not busy and it seemed there were several other staff members who could help but instead they were standing around. While staying at they Hyatt Union Square, I ordered room service. The staff at the hotel was a bit annoyed with my dairy allergy, but the restaurant knew exactly what to do. I expected portion sizes to be small, but it was so big I had enough food for 2 and there was only 1 of me. Beautiful spot, horrible service. When you walk in you're immediately overwhelmed in a good way with the beautiful modern chandeliers and high ceilings. It's part of the hotel so if you venture off to the bathroom area you see a fitness center and locker room. By the way downstairs they have an oversized beautiful dining table for a private party, beyond gorgeous. Besides the decor, everything else fell flat. Service was sloowww. I like to be able to eat and talk without being rushed, but our server disappeared for a good 20 min between servings with no one to be found to ask anything. At some point the hostess came to our table. We came for brunch, so I was expecting yummy eggs and coffee. Didn't get any of it. Our coffee was served Luke warm twice and we had to return it. The only two dishes I could recommend are the guacamole and ricotta dip starters. Be warned that the ricotta dip only comes with 4 slices of bread and when we asked for more it took over 25 min and they brought us back exactly one slice!! It was comical at this point. Our table got the grain bowl, but had to return the eggs because they were liquid and gross. Took another 20 min to get them back and they were uneatable. We ordered two frittatas one which wasn't put in at the time of the rest of the orders and came late. The other made wrong and had huge slices of onions in it, which weren't on the menu and not requested. Only dish my friend ate was the chicken and waffles. I hope the chef will accept my never-ending compliments! My friends and I went to happy hour and just couldn't get enough of the food. The sliders were so juicy and succulent that I devoured the entire thing, bun and all, after taking the first bite. And hands down, the best dish of the night was the Japanese fried chicken, which I will always remember!! So unbelievable good, which is rare for me to say since I'm not really a fried chicken fan, but this was simply the best of the best. The batter was freshly fried, proper crunchy, non-greasy with a hint of lemon zest. The chicken was juicy, tender and bursting with flavor. They were pop in your mouth sized chicken popcorn delights that had me searching for the biggest piece on the plate!! I don't know how many times I went for seconds, thirds and fourths! It's conveniently located near Union Square, but just a hop skip away from the hustle and bustle of the most crowded and popular areas. You can tell they spared no expense with the décor to give customers a great dining ambiance. They also have outdoor seating if you choose to people watch. My friends and I have no issues with the staff as they were very attentive and friendly. Technically, this should be a 4.5 rating as I was quite disappointed by the wine quality. The fact that they had such perfection in food and ambiance makes me feel these imperfections even more. I tried the happy hour house white wine and also the Malbec. Both were less than desired. I switched to the rose and finally found my drink of the night. They also have a tasty lemonade Vodka cocktail that's pretty dangerous. Do not overlook this place because it is a 'hotel restaurant!' Bowery Road is fantastic - and set-up in a way so that you do not feel that you are in a hotel restaurant at all - exactly the right way to do a hotel eatery. We came here after seeing a play at The Public theater. It was a bit quiet - likely because it was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. The restaurant is ginormous! Two floors, both decorated with impeccably trendy decor. Definitely ask to sit in the back. The prices were extremely fair for the ambiance, location, and most of all, quality! The food and cocktails stole the show here. I had the Blackberry Smash ($13), my idea of a perfect slightly sweet whisky cocktail. Very balanced. We began our meal by sharing the burrata ($14) - so happy we did as it was so unique, being garnished with blackberries, basil and pesto. My fiancé and I shared two mains - short rib and pork rage rigatoni ($18), and the skirt steak ($25). Both were phenomenal. There were pretty thick, tender pieces of short rib in the pasta dish - a nice surprise. And no complaints about the steak. Overall a very pleasant experience. I was looking for a quick dinner spot in the area and came across this restaurant that does have outdoor seating available. We were seated immediately and chose to sit outside. For the appetizer I tried the hummus which came with flatbread. The flat bread and hummus were delicious. We also ordered the steak tartare which is a small plate item and Creekstone skirt steak entree. I wish I had taken a pic of my entree it was delicious and the skirt steak was made exactly how I like it and was flavorful as well. Everything was fresh and delicious! For drinks i ordered a Cigar City Jai Alai IPA on draft and my friend ordered the Blackberry smash. The blackberry splash wasn't that strong in my opinion. Definitely a must try restaurant in the Union Square area, whether or not you are staying in the attached hotel. But note that the restaurant is not "inside" the hotel, though it does have a connecting door for guest convenience but the Main entrance is directly on 4th Ave. It is not what I would describe as a hotel restaurant in the old sense. It appears that many guests do take advantage for breakfast but it seemed that dinner on Saturday night was a destination for outside diners looking for a trendy, quality, New American menu with two bars, one in the main area and a specialty late night bar downstairs in the "Library." We heard that the same is true for their Sunday Brunch, though they do serve a regular breakfast menu starting at an earlier hour that may better accommodate travelers. A win for all in my book. Between us, we shared a variety of items for dinner though we started with our own drinks. I had a Downeast natural Cider from Boston, so fresh tasting, we could have been by an orchard. My husband had some beer he really liked, I don't remember the name, but it was a red or brown ale, his usual. We had a crushed avocado dip that was highlighted on top with a spicy oil and served with a housemate crisp for dipping that was baked from crushed corn seeds. Light and crispy and just strong enough to hold up for dipping. Avocado flavor and ripeness were perfect. A plate of roasted lamb riblets were tender, well seasoned and served with a yogurt sauce. The burger was good, fresh ground beef from a famous NY local purveyor, cooked just right. We asked for medium and it was decidedly pink and tender but not rare. Caramelized onions, new pickle slices and fresh tomato and greens on grilled bun, and big enough to share! The fries were very light, hot and fresh right to the table and though not my usual prep choice of earthier skin-on potatoes, were the best I've had in the lighter category and perfect with the meal. They also went very well with the lamb ribs as they did not compete in spice which some fries recipes do. For dessert, I had the pannacotta served with a blood orange sorbet scoop, candied orange rind accents, all in house made. My husband had his usual, vanilla ice cream, also in house made and he said perfect flavor and texture. The staff members at each level at service were efficient, friendly and helpful but not intrusive. Professional with good training shows. We also had two breakfasts here,over the weekend, eggs were organic, nicely cooked in a variety of plates over the different servings. The omelet I had one morning did come with what they called greens so I was expecting just a garnish, but in fact it was a pile of dressed salad, too much for the plate or my appetite that early and I would not order it again as the dressing even got on some of the cheese omelet. Just my preference, perhaps not others. I would definitely eat here again, even if not at this hotel, even with lots of other places in the area, as many others appear to do. read more

My mother threw me a small baby shower at Bowery Road, and we had an awful experience. She planned a brunch and specifically asked for non-alcoholic beverages only. It was not identified in the contract that alcohol would be offered to guests, but during the shower, the menu included alcoholic drinks without the price noted as if they were part of the prix fixe, and servers kept bringing trays of alcoholic drinks to guests who did not order them. My mom had been told that if people ordered alcoholic drinks, she would have to pay for them, but none of the guests requested alcohol - servers just kept bringing them to people. And weirdly, the menu she agreed to had coffee, tea, soda, and juice, yet none of this was on the printed menu or offered / served to guests unless they asked for them. When my mom went to pay the bill, they said the alcohol cost $500 and billed her an extra $850, but they wouldn't provide an itemized bill and told her that they were counting beverages poured, not consumed. Since the restaurant was pouring the beverages and offering them to people who didn't drink them, that seems extremely shady - they could've poured as much as they'd like. We had a super small shower, so the idea of $850 in alcohol seems like a bit much. It's also impossible to know if they're being honest since they won't give an itemized list of how many beverages they poured and how many they were consumed, nor would they tell her how much each drink cost. When my mom brought this all up, they were incredibly rude and condescending to her. She authorized a payment for the rest of the bill but not the alcohol, but then after she left, they just went ahead and charged her card for this extra $850. Avoid this restaurant at all costs - it was such an unethical thing to do for a special event. We don't have a lot of money and my mom stretched her budget to throw me the shower, which is why we chose not to have alcohol. The fact that they did this makes me feel so sick. I'm sure they're going to respond and say something awful, given the rude way they spoke to my mom, but I hope this will make people think twice about planning an event there. read more

Came in last night with 8 of my friends for after dinner drinks and were turned away it seems by a Eastern European woman manager. She said, "we are not accepting walk ins at this point." It was around 9:30pm and the business in dining room and bar seemed to be slowing. I have been in the hospitality business for over 20 years working for organizations like STARR, Jean George and other chef driven groups and we would never turn away extra business. I just saw a 10 top at the back of the bar, against the wall clear and that could of been an ideal place for my party. I also noticed at least 5 tables cleared and not sat so I felt they didn't have any other reservations on the books. There were also at least 3 barstools open at the bar with the walkway cleared. I am generally not a bad review person, but I felt this needed to be brought to attention as most of my party was Asian and some of them feeling it was because of that we got turned away. I went to Bowery Road for food and drinks yesterday and I had a fantastic experience. Everyone I interacted with was friendly and the atmosphere was warm. I sat at the bar and enjoyed their happy hour (4-7pm), ordered shishito peppers and pork belly sliders. The flavor of each of these was perfect. I had never eaten shishitos with anything more than lemon and salt, but the sauce was an excellent addition. I could have eaten 3 more orders of pork sliders, they were recommended by the bartender and he did not steer me wrong! I will definitely recommend Bowery Road to others read more
