The server had good knowledge of the beers, food, and was friendly. This is one of the best beer bars in the US. The Atlanta area is fortunate to have two killer beer bars, the other being the Brick Store Pub in Decatur.

Next was a 2018 barrel aged barleywine, then a 2021 mixed culture saison- sour and tart but flavorful, last was a 2020 raspberry lambic : acidic and sour but a wonderful sweet taste. It was fermented with wild yeast. The inside has a very quintessential old pub vibe. For lunch we ordered sage pierogis as an appetizer and the arugula salad with a balsamic vinaigrette and a scoop of flavorful chicken salad. Both were yummy. The only drawback was that our server seemed aloof and somewhat distant, which put a slight damper on an otherwise lovely experience.

Our initial visit to Box Car at Hop City West End in December 2025, after a Holiday musical, was intended to be an enjoyable experience. We made a reservation for a group of 11 and were assured of adequate accommodation. However, upon arrival, we were seated at two square tables and one round table, a clear deviation from our request, which we reluctantly chose to overlook. The delay in taking our orders was unacceptable, and it was evident that the restaurant was severely short-staffed. When our food finally arrived, it was disappointing to find that several orders were incorrect. The waitress returned the plates, but, to our dismay, they were brought back unchanged. My order was completely missing, and the food served was cold with improperly cooked meat. The manager's apology and the offer of a few 10% off cards were inadequate and did nothing to redeem the experience. Regrettably, our second visit in March 2026 was equally disappointing. My husband and I decided to give the restaurant another opportunity, and at first, the service and food seemed satisfactory. However, my husband discovered that one of his wings was still covered in feathers. We immediately alerted the waitress, who then brought the matter to the attention of the manager. Both the manager and the cook came to offer their apologies, citing "issues" in the kitchen. The situation was exacerbated by the cook's visibly dirty fingernails, raising serious food safety concerns. While the manager refunded our bill, which was the least they could do, it was too little too late. After multiple opportunities and consistent failures, compounded by significant cleanliness issues, we will never return to or recommend this restaurant. read more

This place is great!! Service was fantastic. Our server was handling a large party with no problem. The manager was on the floor with a smile and was very helpful in selecting a beer for my girlfriend. His beer knowledge was great. He asked what she normally liked to drink and then brought back a sample that she loved. The server was fantastic too, she was so sweet. The food was great for the price, very reasonable for what they are selling. So, service, management, and food are all the reasons why I will be back for another date with this group soon. Just had dinner and must say what a fabulous one! We had the Korean Fried chicken! It's a special they do and it was great! Service was on point tonight! My husband and I have been in several times because we live in the area and sometimes it is hit or miss. Things seem to be turning around though! We are rooting for you guys at Boxcar! I was a little too focused on my lasagna, but I did try a little of the grilled Moroccan lamb loin (tender) and the suya shrimp jollof pasta (bland, sauce too thin to coat the pasta, but shrimps were so yummy). And we did end with some dessert, which does not disappoint, though it was hard for me to choose.

I ordered the unique chicken pancake sandwich with home fries and my son raved about his stick-to-the-ribs Georgia trout entree. Waitress was friendly and helpful with sharing menu suggestions. Food prep was fast, but we did not feel rushed We were seated in one of the cozy dining areas with large booth seating and it was comfortable and only mild noise. Great dining experience and looking forward to returning again and again.

The place is large with lots of seating and some games to play as well (quarter operated). They have a giant parking lot across the street too. The food was good and very reasonably priced. The chicken fingers were crispy and tasty, and the horseradish sauce it came with was out of this world. They have a bunch of TVs over the bar and were playing the Braves game so it's a nice spot to grab some food and a drink and watch sports!

Don't miss the overflow parking across the street when the small lot behind the restaurant is full. Inside is dark wood floors and furniture, the walls are covered with old photos ands m, and memorabilia. There are a handful of pinball machines in an alcove by the door and TVs hung on some walls for entertainment too. I'm glad I was able to enjoy a m al here. The food was good, service was good, and I felt like a local.
