After getting my tires rotated at America's Tires they noticed I had some plastic stuck inside my brakes on the front left wheel. They tried to remove it but was unsuccessful. They referred me to Brake Masters and said they would be able to take care of it. When I arrived I met Benjamin. He inspected the brakes and confirmed he may have to take it apart to remove the plastic. He told me he would have it done before they closed. He couldn't quote me a price because he didn't know how serious it might be, but told me not to worry. When I arrived to pick up the car I was a little nervous about what he might tell me as far as price to fix and damage to the brakes. Benjamin told me the plastic was a diaper that got stuck inside the brakes and because of the heat it hardened the plastic and made it difficult to remove. Fortunately they were able to remove it. On or about Monday, August 13, 2012, my husband and I brought our 1998 Mercedes Benz S420 to BrakeMasters on Thousands Oaks Blvd for an oil change service. By the following Wednesday, August 15, 2012, we could see and smell burning oil and smoke rising up from under the hood of the car. The car had previously never had any problems with oil leaks and the entire engine was very clean and well maintained by our personal mechanic. Under examination we could see that the oil cap was never reattached to the engine after the oil change was performed by the mechanic at BrakeMasters. The Motor Oil had heated up and was released all over the entire engine which had caused the burning oil smell and visible smoke. We returned to BrakeMasters on Thursday, August 16, 2012, where we met with Donald who apologized for the mechanics failure to reattach the oil cap and tried in vain to search the shop for the missing oil cap. After his unsuccessful attempt to find the oil cap, Donald informed us that he would have to order a replacement part and asked us to leave the car with him for a few hours where he would add more oil and wait for the part to arrive, which we agreed to. About 6 months ago, the before mentioned 1998 Mercedes Benz S420 started operating poorly. It would have random and sudden surging in its acceleration and have moments where it would stall out completely which only became worse over time until the car became un operational due to safety concerns. It became so bad we returned the car to our personal mechanic for an inspection to determine the cause of the poor and dangerous performance on Monday, April 22, 2013. After 3 days of investigating potential sources to the problem including the Fuel Injection Filter and Fuel Injection System, our mechanic decided to check the Fuel Injection Relay. Under examination, the Fuel Injection Relay was found to be completely saturated in motor oil caused by the mechanic at BrakeMasters failure to reattach the oil cap. This Fuel Injection Relay component was dripping in Motor Oil and must be replaced. My husband and I returned to BrakeMasters and spoke to Jeremy, the Manager on Friday, April 26, 2013. We informed Jeremy of the situation and also told him that we could not find the receipt and asked him to look up the Record of Service in the computer. Jeremy informed us that he was able to find our information and the automobile in question in the computer system, however he was unable to locate the record of service on the day the BrakeMasters mechanic damaged our car. Our personal mechanic informed us that this is a common practice at some automotive repair shops to delete the invoice of repair after performed if the invoice is paid in cash, and we did pay in cash. I then asked Jeremy if they had the hard copy of the receipt we were given and he informed us that once we could give him the date of service, he could track down the hard copy of the receipt. We do however have the "Sticker" Proof of Service on the window of the 1998 Mercedes Benz S420 which shows the Suggested Mileage and/or Date BrakeMasters recommended for us to bring the car back for its next oil change. The date on this Proof of Service Sticker is listed as 11/17/2012. The Owner/Operator has REFUSED to pay for the repairs to our car. Quote, "If you dont have your receipt, I dont have a receipt, so what, SUE ME!' THIS GUY IS SHADY AND A CROOK! WATCH OUT FOR BRAKEMASTERS! read more

They were recommended by a local tire shop. I went in for squeaking rear brakes, which to me indicated the brake sensor was screeching. Turns out the brakes on a Range Rover have an electronic wear though sensor that trips a dash light, mine wasn't worn through and hadn't tripped the light. They said they'd save me $60 and reuse the sensor. HERE'S THE BAD PART, 11 months and 10,000 miles later the brake warning light on the dash goes off. I took it back to brake master thinking the front pads are now bad. Nope, the tech tells me the rear pads are gone and the sensor is now worn through. On the first visit I had indicated the car was going back on a lease return shortly, I just didn't tell them when. They mush have assumed it would go back to the dealership before I'd discover their failure. It's most likely the brake pad, along with that sensor, were not replaced the first time. I suspect the rotors got turned and old pads and sensor put back on. They charged me for the second rear brake job, they had completed the work without even a phone call. read more

Went in. Was greeted right away and told it would take 1 hour to check my brakes. That was all I needed. I made an appt. to come back the following day as he said I would be out of there in 30 min. NOPE...I was there for TWO hours! Another lady and I were in the waiting room..but they were working on cars that belonged to people not there. One employee vanished. The 2 remaining had no clue where he went. I kept checking...FINALLY they took my car in..but just kept it up on the racks. I finally walked out and asked what the heck was going on? So, one guy went back to my car. He told me my master cylinder was bad and I needed new brake fluid. I said, just give me my car back. I took my car to the dealer. If I could rate this place a NEGATIVE 5 stars I would!! Made an appointment to have my brakes checked for 3:00pm, waited 40 minutes & my car still sat in the parking space untouched! There was only one other person waiting, so it's not as if they were busy. I watched the 2 men working finish and back out 2 cars (so they obviously had the space to move my car in, yet didn't). The 2 men working then had the audacity to stand in front of me & shoot the shit, while doing absolutely NOTHING for more than 10 minutes! At this point it's 3:45 & my car STILL HASN'T moved! Why the hell do you take appointments if they obviously mean NOTHING?!?! When I walked up to them to ask for my keys, he just pulled them out of his pocket & handed them to me without asking why? They clearly didn't FEEL like working and know that they get paid no matter what! WORST COSTUMER SERVICE EVER!!! I went in to have them check for a squeaking rear brake. Then then ended up telling me that all 4 rotors were too thin and needed to be replaced. I dont know what made them decided to check all 4 rotors unless they were looking to make some money off of me. I recently had a friend do my front and rear brakes and he turned the rotors and ever since then the brakes were not quite what they used to be so I figured maybe they were right and said to do it. They do work much better now so I will give them credit for that. The part I didn't like is that they said my front pads had 70% left even though they were replaced 2 months ago. Then they came in with the pads and they were gouged and had a chunk broken off the corner on one of them. There is no way a piece would break off while on the car so I asked them if they dropped it and they said no. Then they said I should have ceramic pads on my car which didn't make sense since its not a exotic sports car or anything! Since the pad was ruined I had to have brand new pads replaced and these pads put off some serious brake dust. The brakes do work much better but I think I was taken for the new pads which I'm not thrilled about. read more

Traveling north on 101 today the brake sensor on our Chevrolet Silverado came on. We were close to Brake Masters in Thousand Oaks and called. Spoke with David and he had us bring it in. David was the ultimate professional exhibiting exemplary customer service. He spent about 40 minutes assessing the issue, determined it was just a sensor problem and said everything still seemed to be in good order. All this on a Saturday with no appointment. And no charge. This kind of service is hard to come by it seems but David left us with a feeling that there are still some very honest, trustworthy people in the world. This place initially quoted me the highest price out of 3 places I qouted. They did offer to match the lowest bid, but then tried to charge extra to turn down.machine the rotors. I refused and was said I was firm at the lowest price I was qouted, for full service pad replacement and turning down the roters/ machining them down and they accepted. Would not recomend for my girlfriend to go in by her self. Pep boys was the lowests qouted directly on the phone. Calabasas Car care came in second only $10 behind pepbous and 20 in front of this place and Calabasas offered OEM pads. read more

Have had all my Toyota's aligned at this location and was happy with the work until this time. Went there for another alignment and after the tech inspected the vehicle, he advised that the front struts were leaking. The alignment can not be done until the leaking struts were replaced. I looked at the struts and just noted a film like of dry residue were on the struts, no liquid showing as leaks. I was advised for $250, both front struts can be replaced and Johnny (Brake Masters Office Tech) said, he would throw in the alignment for free. Sounded good, however, from my observations and feeling, was convinced that something did not feel right and advised Johnny to order the parts and I'll leave and bring the car back the next day. Went to a nearby Toyota competitor for a second opinion - there, I was advised the struts are original and they were not leaking just have standard road grime and residue but were fine - do not need replacing. I called Johnny and he said the struts were leaking. I advised him that I will not be needing their services. You, the consumer, make up your own mind but I'm not going to be using Brake Masters (Thousand Oaks) anymore. read more

Very upset with the customer service I recieved. That I actually ended up not getting my oil changed with them and going somewhere else. I called the morning of to make an appointment for 1:00 and brought my car in and they told me it would be a couple hours. I had no one to pick me up so he said what time can I come back I said 3:30 he said I had an appointment for 3:30 and they would be able to get it done. Showed up at 3:30 sat at the counter for 10 minutes & then he asked what I was there for told him oil change & he said it would be about an hour. Again, I didn't have a ride so that's why I came back... I said I would sit and wait and he told me that jiffy lube would do it in 20 minutes. And that clearly oil change wasn't there thing... So I said that my fiancé's grandfather owns the building so I thought I would give them business and I left. VERY FRUSTRATING to have wasted that much time in my day and ending up going somewhere else. read more

My husband called the Brake Masters in T.O. to find out how much an oil change was - quoted 18.95 on the phone. They asked the model and year of my car. When I took it in a day later without my husband they tried selling me a synthetic oil change for 49.95, when I told him no, he said, oh I have to check something under your hood. He went out and came back and said for MY car - the oil change is 29.95 - because I HAVE to have 5W20 oil...so I told him forget it. I looked in my owner manual and it says you can use 5W20, 5W30 or 10W30 oil. I have a 2010 Hyundai Elantra and I am really mad they are not honoring the price we were originally quoted and they are trying to take advantage of me because I'm a woman. I will never trust them now, because they lied to me. Great job Brake Masters!!!!! I also had a 5.00 off coupon , not that that makes a difference because 5.00 off a rip off price does me no good!!! read more

The next day I went to the Simi Valley location and had the work done for $318. Do not go to the T.O. location, they rip off customers and are just plain sleazy. read more
