Terrible service, food was mid and not really out in a timely manner. I asked the worker for his name and he looks at me and says "dude get away" how disrespectful!!!!! he wouldn't give it to me, I'm assuming because he knew he gave poor service and didn't want me to write about him and post his name, however he's not hard to miss the tall very skinny guy with very fine thin long string guy hair. we order $40 dollars worth of food and my friend order food as well as a latte. I wanted a lemon water with my food and he said I couldn't have any lemons because there was only a few left and that they were saving them for the customers who were ordering lemonade. I just don't understand the thought process of how he thought that was ok to treat a paying customer. He had the lemons and didn't even want me to have one? I didn't ask for the whole lemon. I must say while I chuckle that the reviews that are complaining about spending $3 on a coffee to tie up a table for 3+ hours on Brazil's WiFi is silly. Try taking an intro business class y'all The food is great & the menu is developing it seems. Complaints I read from the past are simply not the case now. The Chef buys from organic markets & makes special limited edition meals for the weekends usually & it's slowly about to make me a regular!!! The food is all delicious & as a note I'm 100% vegan. Lastly, I'll say I'm going tomorrow morning for their extended brunch (follow them on IG!) & I may bring my work lap top since I'm dining alone & want to do some work over breakfast. I'd been looking around for date night spots with outside dining to take my partner, and someone recommended Brasil. I was nervous because of the ratings on here but we went and had a great experience. The customer service was really good. My partner ordered a tequila sunrise but when we found out they didn't have grenadine we didn't have any issues with changing his drink order. The cashier was also very patient while I asked questions about some of the cocktails on the menu. $16 for a plate of steak and fries is a great deal. And the steak was perfect. We both ordered ours medium well and it didn't disappoint. Very juicy and flavorful. We'll for sure be back again. read more

I remember Brasil from a long time ago. That's the Brasil I love. This Brasil (of now) is pretentious, cheap (with the portions, not in price), and uninviting. Food: it's ... okay. Like, not great. Not terrible. Last time I was there I order the hummus platter, which FYI comes with "pita, hummus, and veggies. What I got was toast (apparently they were out of pita but failed to mention it at the register), a single tablespoon of hummus, and shaved carrots and a tomato what cut into corners. Not worth it. The rest of the meal was bland (tamales, black bean burger, and a few salads). Atmosphere: the owner walks around and makes sure that as long as you're there, you're ordering. He gives you a look when you don't have food coming your way or currently on your table. Forget the days of hanging out with coffee and your computer, owner man isn't having it any more. Feels very uninviting and cold. The staff: still friendly. Maybe they care about your experience, maybe not ... but it comes across as genuine. Though - no heads up on the toast (it was gross and I'm still not over it). Save your money. Go elsewhere for delicious portions. read more

The service here has never been the greatest unless you hit up on a slow night or day, which I did. I'll forever be a fan of this establishment as I've grown up coming here. I wrote this review simply to shout out to Ari, she was nothing but helpful as I struggled with my wheelchair to get to the patio. Ari even helped while they were buzzing tables to help me fix my broken hat. I'll forgive the lipstick stained glass and the bar tender unable to assist s disabled person (temp disabled) get into the narrow door. Over all good snd service is solid, this one is for you Ari. The staff is rude. I had sat down to eat and after about 30 min, a staff member came over and gave me some weird speech about how they don't like people sitting at their cafe for a long time. My friend has just gotten there and was about to order coffee but we decided to leave and go elsewhere because the behavior was so rude and invasive. I had literally just finished eating and was being rushed out. I understand a 2 hour limit, but no need to be rude. Plus the cafe was empty. We came here for my friends birthday and it's got nice vibes (especially the artsy + garden-y outdoors), but the food is meh. You order at the bar, take a number, and then they bring the food out to you. We had a large party (read: 14) and they didn't take too long bringing the food out. You serve yourself with water at a water tank. I got the Brasil Burger, but my burger bun was kind of soggy, and I felt like the burger was greasy overall. They could have been more generous with the vegetables (lettuce, tomato) and it was definitely one of the messier burgers to eat. The sweet potato fries were great though! I tried some of my friend's Garden Kabboule Bowl (a salad) and it was way too heavy on the sour dressing. I've been visiting this cafe for well over a decade and things really haven't changed here. I recently visited twice thinking the service was top notch. But after getting home and discovering they charged us on food we never even ordered; my thoughts changed immediately. Management is sneaky and fraudulent. I'm not really sure why you'd have the audacity to charge your customers on items they never ordered. It is a nuisance to revisit the cafe and wonder what really happened. Be very careful and aware of a situation like this! Make sure to ask for a receipt and watch if they try to swipe your card twice. I have always enjoyed the pizzas and tamales here. Soups are not bad as well. Many vegetarian and vegan items to choose from which is always a plus. There cafe au lait is one of my favorites and served in a tall glass. Just the way they present it in European cafes. I always ask for maple syrup in my coffee which creates a more cozier beverage. Sitting outside the patio in beautiful weather or inside the dimly lit cafe is equally as nice. The cafe style atmosphere appeals to me because of the casual yet chic feeling. It's one of the originals in this part of town as well. No try hard factor here. They've got a diverse selection of food and drink items. Its a quick choice that keeps ya belly warm and full. After a disappointing breakfast at Brasil's awhile back, I decided to try them again. Unfortunately the food let me down a second time, so I'm taking them off my list for breakfast spots. I ordered the most basic eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast. Everything but the eggs came out lukewarm to cold. The bacon and hashbrowns were not freshly cooked. My guess it was cooked earlier and just reheated. When I asked for my plate to be microwaved to be reheated, I'm guessing they decided instead to throw the bacon and hashbrowns back on the griddle and just overcook them to a hard mess of a meal. Sadly, the drip coffee was stale and not flavorful at all. I don't understand why the restaurant can't hang out at Baby Barnaby's or House of Pies and learn how to make a great tasting breakfast. I thought this was a cute little hole in the wall on Montrose! They have their breakfast menu from 8a-12p, a special brunch menu for the weekend, and then their lunch and dinner menu from 11a-10p. They have a full bar as well as outdoor and indoor seating. The decor seems very "hipster" and clean. My husband and I came here for breakfast and we enjoyed it very much! We both had their Morning Eggs which comes with two eggs any style, a crispy hashbrown, wheat toast, and a fresh jam. Their hashbrown is divine! They also have pastry items and bake them daily, once they're sold out they're gone for the day. Everything was fresh and made to order, I also had their strawberry mimosa which was great as well. I have been coming to Cafe Brasil on a regular basis for over 10 years now. Their food has always been great and the atmosphere is very pleasant. Unfortunately, unpleasant service can really ruin such experience. The "cashier" who took my order couldn't been more unpleasant. Apparently he does not like to be bothered with questions about the menu (even though there was no one else in line) and looked like he had better things to do than to be at the counter. Just really poor attitude for someone that is dealing directly with the public. The only real reason to go to Brasil is because of their copious outdoor seating. The back patio is lovely - ample shade and shielded from the busy traffic of Westheimer. Yesterday, for example: --Beet and goat cheese salad: 4/5 - no complaints here, it had the right balance of components, although the beets weren't the freshest. --Hawaiian pizza: 2/5 - enough pineapple, but really skimpy on the other components. And no sauce, just cheese :/ they threw handfuls of arugula on top to make it "gourmet," which is a huge pizza pet peeve of mine. (I will die on the hill that throwing wilted greens on top of a pizza is NOT something that should be done in order to raise the price by $3-5) --Margarita carafe: 2/5 taste, 1/5 experience - this was particularly bad, but also on-brand, for Brasil. Their happy hour chalkboard clearly advertised an $18 margarita carafe, on the rocks or frozen. We proceeded to order a carafe on the rocks, which our server argued wasn't a thing, until he turned and read the chalkboard. He then turned to discuss with his manager(?), who informed him, "yes, the carafe is $18 during happy hour, four margaritas for the price of three." Five minutes later, after we (finally) ordered it, they brought to our table a half-filled carafe that was mostly ice. Half-filled not being an exaggeration, it looked like someone had already poured out half of it. We barely got two margaritas out of that thing I've been to Brasil many times over the past 4-5 years. The servers are all great, I recommend the breakfast tacos and the California Dreamin Hamburger has a kick to it- you need to share it with someone else. Everything is good and the music is specifically picked to suit the Bohemian atmosphere of the Montrose and the cafe. Music especially good at night. Pay close attention to the flowers and the music if you visit. I have never had bad service and we visit alot on Sunday morning for breakfast with friends and other times as well. After a great brunch, continuous rounds of their mixed drinks, and being asked to move once, my boyfriend and I were approached at least 6 times to pick up my not yet finished beverage by various wait staff as well as the owner who asked us if he could get us anything else or if we were "sharing the one drink" even though we both had ordered so much. There were plenty of open tables, we even moved tables "preemptively" to accommodate the owner's request since he had a few phone calls requesting large tables come in. At no point was the patio full. After we moved to a smaller table, another couple took our place at the larger table that seats four. To spend as much money as we did, we did not feel welcome which is really sad as we love to come by since we live down the street and have been coming here off and on for a decade. It's just a really disappointing hospitality experience I've yet to experience here.
