Good local spot for a sando. Great fresh bread. Boars Head meat - 5 star. Fresh tomatoes and shredded lettuce and killer pickles - big plus Excellent friendly quick (if not packed) service. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is it's super dingy inside. Equipment piled on top of each other. Don't go out of your way but when in Alamo this is the spot for a sando - 1000x better than Safeway and Panamera. read more

I was really dissapointed with the service/non service we received today. After a stop on a bike ride with my family on Father's day, we walk in and are the only ones in line. We waited literally 15 minutes without a single word from any employee about how "we will be with you shortly" or anything, just blank stares as they were making other sandwhiches. We kept waiting until my patient Dad says let's take off. I use to come here as a kid and come sporadically now, but no longer will I support a business where the employees look at you as if they are mad you even came in. read more

Sandwiches are pretty good and the ingredients are fresh...but they are SO slow. Like literally a snail's pace sandwich making. Probably better off just going to safeway next door if you're in a rush; they use the same brand meat and cheeses at a fraction of the cost and you'll be out of there much faster. I literally watched the lady take forever just to wrap a sandwich...then went to get ingredients for making another when she could have just made them both at the same time. Incredibly rude and unfriendly. When finished making the sandwhich, they tossed them across the counter at me. And what really upset me was one of the workers asked who was next, and a young kid said he was. The lady did not believe him - mind you she had just walked from the back moments prior so she wasn't aware of who was truly there. She went to skip him and he said he was next... she still wouldn't believe him. I had to chime in to say he was otherwise she would have completely skipped over him. I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place yet!! I've been here a few times already and I can't say enough about. Awesome prices, awesome service and awesome choices. I love these small sandwich shops that remind me of the east coast. It reminds me of Moriucci's in Walnut Creek except less greasy. These sandwiches are well put together and super fresh and super healthy, I LOVE the shredded lettuce with all the sandwiches. I've had the pastrami and mortadella so far and I wish I could give this more than 5 stars. The sides are alright, I had the potato salad so far and its decent... but I tried the orzo salad and it was meh.... But overall, everything here is awesome. read more

I was desperate for some food the other day after a long day of driving. I stopped in Alamo and just happened upon this Deli. I totally lucked out! I had the Ariana, which was handed to me in about 1 minute! Delicious! Next time you want a real sandwich and some gourmet snacks, this is the place. I grew up in Alamo so my family frequently visited this deli while I was living there. They have the freshest ingredients! I love how they slice the meat really thin! Actually everything is sliced really thin and I absolutely love that! Anytime I drive past Alamo I have to stop and get a sandwich from here! I get maple turkey on sliced wheat with everything! So good! Also they have freshly baked sweets! The chocolate peanut butter bar is amazing! They used to have a lemon bar that was a must have as well. I ordered 2 sandwiches....barely any meat??. Plus I also purchased some local jam & when I got hm it was expired *(10/2021) So I called to ask for manager... but didn't get a return call as promised. A few hours later I called back and talked to the "man" in charge telling him the jam was expired & he scoffed. Finally he agreed to reimburse my card. He is unprofessional! While waiting in line, I was watching the action behind the counter. I was a little bothered by the lack of gloves, worn by people making sandwiches. There was one person wearing gloves that happened to help us so we went ahead and ordered sandwiches. But I kept watching the younger woman. She was handling money and then handled the meat. The next dog I get is going to be named Reuben. They are my almost favorite sandwich and if the dog I get is cute enough I'll just want to eat him up. So if you couldn't tell I went with the Reuben. Their version was pretty good. They put it on a roll that wasn't to big but wasn't my favorite part of the sandwich. The absolute best part was the Sauerkraut. Yummy! It was tangy and slightly crisp and didn't overpower the meat or sauce. I also bought a big hunk of Red Velvet Cake for later. They don't make it in house. Their cakes come from a local bakery. It wasn't a very memorable piece of cake. They also have so many types of drinks it's hard to decide and quite the selection of chips. I'll admit. I usually come here after my post lunchtime gym workout and am ravenous with hunger. They may have better sandwiches but I've stuck to the Reuben on a Roll. read more

Sandwiches are inconsistent, I suggest watching while they're being made. Last week I requested the Italian with light dressing and pepperocini. Take out. Got home and the bread was absolutely sopping with dressing, yuk, and zero pepperocini on there. Also the lettuce is chopped in a processor which is not to my taste. read more

Meh. Finally came back after a couple of years and wasn't so impressed with the sandwiches this time. I would not recommend ordering sandwiches later in the day as the bread they have left to use is minimal. There is no choice. What usually makes a standout sandwich is the bread and this place does not make their own or source any that is amazing. The bread they had available was all pre-packaged sandwich bread. Blah. They do have an impressive array of quality cheese and meats (Boar's Head) available for their sandwiches. Too bad I don't eat cheese or meat and my son only cares about cheddar and ham. It's such shame that the 2 women working there are so incredibly rude. The owner is a sweet man and I've been a loyal customer for so many years but it makes me not want to go back. There was a sign that said limit one customer inside at a time, and since there was no one in there I went in and they screamed at me to wait outside. The table of guys sitting outside said, "dont worry, they yelled at us too". I used to go here years ago with the kidlets but somehow we've ended up at other places lately so it's been quite awhile. But I must admit in disgust I marched in on Friday really just to buy a bottled water since "RiteAid" couldn't be bothered to fill their refrigerators at noon. And I was one of those annoying people you hate talking to my daughter on my cellphone. Like I said i really needed water after being at the gym. But as I stood to pay and waited a moment, and stared at some mighty fine looking sammies go by....I got weak. And I didn't actually have any cash in my wallet, would they let me use my atm just for a bottled water? So why not just get a sammie and a water and atm it, I mean it is lunch time and I've got errands to run? So it's now my turn and they ask if I'd ordered (hold on kiddo) I see a nice fresh looking dish of eggsalad, okay I'm sure I'm grossing some of you out. But I love a good eggsalad on rye, and they put the works on it (- the mayo since it's already in the eggsalad). And armed with my bottled water I was in and out and still on my cell for like $8. So when I bit into that monstrous delicacy with the shaved thin lettuce and thinly sliced red onion and eggsalad squishing out of every end, I have to tell you I was in heaven. Plus these peeps put pickle too so important on any deli delight in my book. Could only do half because it was a beast, saved the other half for later. But I have to say it was a good hearty deli sandwich and I must go back soon. Though not after just visiting the gym...did that cancel it out? read more

Classic sammys at a classic delicatessen in Alamo. I love this place. I have been coming here for over two decades and the quality has remained the same, excellent! If you are picky about your bread I would suggest getting here early because the lunch rush definitely takes a toll on bread selection. They have a large selection of meats and cheeses which are always in stock, and plenty of snacks and deserts to make your mouth water while you wait in line, or for your sando to be completed. Coronavirus alert! When they go to wash their hands they FAKE wash them using NO soap! Again, using no soap for their 5 second-hand wash. Completely gross. Why don't they use gloves??? Love a good sandwich shop, and Brass Bear is one of my newer favorites. There is plenty of parking, great sandwiches and pasta salads as well. My favorite is their turkey club sandwich. They also sell cheeses, appetizers, drinks, desserts and more. Alamo is lucky to have this deli. read more

Nothing tops off my weekend like a sandwich on a Sunday afternoon at the Brass Bear. Whether I am sitting outside enjoying the warm weather or sitting inside watching the 49er game, I always enjoy eating here. They offer premium deli meats, cheese and wonderful homemade side dishes. The Brass Bear has a great local, family feeling to it, as evidenced by the large number of local customers that frequent it. I always know I am going to get a great, tasty sandwich here.
