In my area, Pasadena/Arcadia, finding a shop that specializes in older cars is challenging. Brea Auto Electric came to me by way of a referral from a local Chevy car club member. I needed a few things done and Kevin did a great job tidying up a few loose ends that someone else had started. While I was there, I noticed quite a few cars about the same era as mine in their lot in various stages of being worked on. That was good to see and reassuring. My car was towed to Brea Auto Electric on a flatbed and I brought things to read/do while I waited (dropping the car off and getting an Uber/Lyft back to Pasadena was a non-starter due to cost). Fortunately, there's a movie theater and a bunch of restaurants a few blocks down the street that helped pass the time including Starbucks (WiFi). This was the worst experience I ever had with an auto body shop and probably one of first negative reviews. It's a pandemic and all business are struggling, so I would never want to hurt a business, but at the same time, I want to save the customer from getting victimized. I was recommended this place by a tow service associate from AAA who jumped my car. I went there and a mechanic named KEVIN looked at my car. He was a bit off... I guess the word is rude. I have a feeling he must be a good mechanic but was terrlbe with customers. (I own a business). KEVIN gave me a price of $330 to put in a new starter and also I had a window that was not closing correctly and said it was the window motor. The quote seemed fair, and he wasn't pushing for me to fix it, but since the car was there I figured I should do it. I told him that my dad had just died and that this was a sentimental car to me since it was an older Lexus 300. 5 DAYS LATER. They called me when it was done in 5 days as they said but when I picked up the car... it was weird. Kevin had me pay... just gave me the keys. I asked him where the car was and he said on the street, fast forward... I noticed that the screen on the radio was shattered when I got home. I wasn't paying attention to it cause I was driving. I called IMMEDIATELy the next day in the morning. DOUG, the owner picked up the phone. I told him about it and told him I was bummed and asked him if I could text him the photos. I texted DOUG the photos. The owner Doug... never replied. . I called back later that day....AND KEVIN ANSWERED. As soon as I told him my name which is Sharon... and continued to tell him what happened, he told me he was the mechanic and that I was basically lying and that he didn't do it. This was over the phone. He hadn't even seen the photos yet. Why would I make this stuff up? Next day. I ended up driving there the next day and I talked to them calmly and asked if they would take a look at it and explain how this could have happened. The owner said that it may have cracked while parked on the street in the heat. He said he would look up any radios and get in touch. 5 DAYS LATER. NO word. I texted him. NO ANSWER. I think this place which has been around for 10 years... has gotten away with bad business. THE PROBLEM HERE IS NO FOLLOWUP. MISTAKES HAPPEN...but NO FOLLOWUP IS WORSE, then an accident happening. Great Experience with no repair. I have an older Corvette and was having problems with my A/C controller. I called and talked to Kevin (Super Nice Guy) who told me he'd take a look at it. A few hours after I dropped it off, Kevin called me with bad news that my controller was fried and there was no way to repair it. Worse news was that only refurbished controllers are available. Kevin was very honest and told me he couldn't guarantee a refurbished unit, so he wouldn't be able to fix my car. He said he checked everything else and there was nothing wrong with my car, just a bad controller. He charged me for only a half hour of his time, which I felt was more than fair. My Lexus headlights went out and the dealership wanted almost $800 to take care of them. Had them done here and saved lots of money. ZERO STARS I brought in my Corvette Z06 to Doug's Brea Auto Electric because I was having electrical issues with my car. I was told it was the starter. But mike claimed that dealing with electrical issues with cars was what they do for a living. They charged me around 1,350 for a new starter. These so called experts did not fix my gave my problems two days later. It was sent immediately to a dealer ship GM shop, and they told me it was not an original GM starter. I called mike and he said to bring the car on buy and that he would 'help me out with the starter' After having it seen at a real GM dealer ship. Mike now said that it was my car's solenoid and battery along with the brand the starter being faulty was the problem. I have no idea what they did with the whole starter, but they changed the solenoid and Mike claimed that my battery was bad and that he had put it a new battery in the car. Mike put in a battery in my car wit out my knowledge and consent and there was no work order signed when I dropped the car off. I asked for my "old battery", which I had just replaced 8 days ago and was brand new, I even told him to check the code on the battery to prove to him that my battery was new. He did not check my so called "old battery" in front of me to show me it was dead and not working. I at this point knew far beyond everything that Mike was full of it, just another hustler. I asked for my old battery and he even had the odacity to charge me a ten dollar core for it. He ultimately told me that he was unable to fix my electrical problem and to go to my tuner and have the car looked at there because he had no idea what was causing this. Who does work and changes unnecessary parts around without proving to the customer that they aren't working properly? I did not grant him any priviledges to do so. Especially without a work order. I'm a 26 year old Corvette owner and that it why these clowns take advantage of me because of my inexperience and youth. This is just another Hustler shop. Avoid them at all cost and I will look into the legality of this situation, I just wanted my the hell out of there. So, now I am stuck with my brand new original AC Delco battery, and stuck with an new Interstate battery which mike repleaced without my consent and knoledge read more

We finally found someone that we really feel comfortable with and can trust. We took in our 1960 C-10 Chevy truck in for electrical issues. I took my vehicle to bring electric per strong recommendations. They looked at my vehicle after about an hour and a half of diagnostic time they determined it needs the main computer board for my vehicle. Due to the estimate of repair of the most $1300 I picked up my vehicle I got yet another opinion on the issue of my engine light being on. I know the mechanics opinion suggested that I replace the O2 sensor that had not yet been replaced in attempt to resolve the issue. I went to dodge in Corona to pick up the O2 sensor and had it replaced. Throughout the following day after driving a vehicle of possibly 50 to 70 miles the engine light actually went off. I contacted Brea auto electric and informed her of the situation. She was more than willing to oblige regarding the concerns that I had. She's very willingly address the issue and we came up with a resolution that was quite satisfactory. I can't say enough about Brea Auto Electric. Three years ago, my daughter's car broke down in Pasadena and it was towed to one of those chain auto places. Turns out it was a bad alternator. Since we live in the SF Bay Area (she's going away to school) I was very concerned about my 18 year old daughter. To make a long story short, we ended up taking the car to Mike at Brea and got nothing but excellent service. I felt like they treated my daughter like their daughter and they were great about picking her up and taking her back to her dorm as required. We had other work done there when her car got hit by another car and again experienced great service. So, three years later the alternator went out again. I thought that was short for an alternator and called Mike. He agreed that it was and said he would take care of the problem for a minimal cost. He did not have to do this as it very likely wasn't the alternator, but a different problem with the car. But, he said "It was the right thing to do". In any case, I had the car towed to Brea. They took the alternator apart and discovered that it was only a bad brush. They replaced that and it was even less than what he had originally told me! I'm always suspicious of car places, and he could have easily told me more money and I would have still been happy, but he didn't. I found that these guys are very trust worthy and a class act. If I lived in LA, I would drive miles to take me car to Brea Auto Electric. read more

So my knowledge of vehicles doesn't span much further than knowing where to put the gas in. When the head gaskets in my lemon of a car blew (at only 68,000 miles mind you) I was in a panic. I don't know of any car repair businesses locally so I came here on the recommendation of the general manager where I take my vehicle for general maintenance. Mike was great to work with, they stay open late so they were available even though the issue with my vehicle happened after 7pm. My vehicle was in the shop for approx 2 weeks which kicked my butt for rental charges, however I'm not sure how much of the wait could have been avoided considering it was a large job. The price I paid was about average for what I was hearing this was going to cost me. Mike dealt with me calling daily (yes I'm one of those crazy people when it comes to my car) and stayed patient, clearly explaining everything that was happening so I constantly felt "in the loop". Doug wasn't rude at all like the previous poster stated, he was actually pleasant to chat with. They did lose a star because of a comment I overheard from the repair bays. One of the guys left his sunglasses in my car and I took them back the next day. Mike took them in the repair bay area and asked if they were one of the guys and one guy shouted "they look pretty gay, must be ______'s". Recently purchased a classic truck that was rewired by a previous owner. I took it to a local shop with good reviews. They had it all day and said they could not figure out lighting problem. I took truck to Brea electric and dropped it off thinking it would take all day or longer to trace the problem. I was called within an hour and told truck was done. When I arrived to pick it up he explained problem and said it was so simple it would only be $20. I anticipated hundreds of dollars and several days to rewire. I will return for repairs. We took my husband's 56 Ford pickup in for an electrical problem (scared that we would be spending HUNDREDS of dollars for repairs), but we extremely surprised that they were able to fix the problem for less than $100!!
