Bugs in food! I have…read morebeen writing yelp reviews for over 14 years and have been elite for 12. I've never had anything like this happen and the way it was addressed is unacceptable! I have been going to Nifty Fifty's since I was in HS in the 90's. I was so excited to have this location open, until yesterday. You can see I went when this location first opened and gave them 5 stars. Things have changed. I stopped by and got a milk shake and cheese fries to go. I sat outside on their bench for 5 minutes. Ate a few fries and finished a phone call before heading home. When I got home I opened the fries and there were bugs in them. I immediately got sick and ran the food outside to the trash. I tried to call the restaurant 4 times with no answer. I called another location to make sure I had the right number, which I did. Today I went back to tell them what happened. I asked to speak with manager privately as this was something I didn't want to talk about openly. I asked for a refund, which they denied. They said they were so busy they couldn't answer the phone. It was empty when I was there less than 30 minutes prior so I find that hard to believe. They said I sat at the bench for the 5 min and that's where I got the bugs. They said they would remake the food but I couldn't sit at a table even though the place was empty. At this point I did say very loudly there were bugs in my food and I wanted corporates number, which they would not provide. They then asked me to leave when people were asking what happened. I'll take up a dispute with my credit card. I didn't photo the bugs as I was physically ill from thinking about the ones I ate at the restaurant and had drank 1/2 my milkshake. I'm very sad that this will be my final visit to Nifty Fifties but even when offered replacement food. At first I said yes but I immediately felt sick about it and said no thank you. I won't be able to ever go back here. I filled out their online form for customer service but at this point there is nothing that can be done. Update: I did hear from corporate within 24 hours. They offered me a gift card that can be used at another location and asked that I update this review. I can't honestly update this experience because I wont be returning to this location.

One of them was crying and clearly trying to hide it, while the other girl rubbed her back and comforted her before we came up to the register. I asked what was wrong, and she said she had fallen. Not even a minute later, a manager came up (she was wearing a shirt that said "Manager") and said to the girl, "I'm sorry for yelling at you. I just didn't feel like having a hurt employee." I was in shock. I felt horrible for her. I haven't gone back since because of what appeared to be poor treatment of their staff. Today, after my niece's graduation, I decided to stop in for some fries and a shake. Horrible idea. I walked in and was not greeted. I was stared at, given dirty looks, and I'm pretty sure an employee took my picture. The girl who took my order was wearing gloves and was boxing food with the same gloves on. I can't complain about the taste of the food, but I think both the cleanliness and the treatment of staff need a BIG upgrade.

Our party of 4 were "walk ins" since our reservations got messed up elsewhere. We felt fortunate to get a table last minute. We were seated in the front room which was a bit too bright (!!!). It was a large table for four. The room was quiet (other than a noisy kid a few tables over but that was short lived). So many restaurants are too loud and you have to shout to have a conversation therefore we truly appreciated the solitude. The owner, Bruce, came over to greet us. We appreciated his gesture as he obviously cares about his customers. He told us a little bit about the restaurant. We ordered a round of cocktails. The only Rose wine on their wine list had to go back as it had a nasty taste...3 of us agreed on that. It was quickly replaced with white wine. House Scotch was a generous pour and very smooth. Martini also good. I thought prices were reasonable on the alcohol. On to the food. Crab cakes were excellent as Bruce recommended. I enjoyed the fish and chips and our other friend seemed to enjoy the meat loaf. I thought the menu was ideal...sandwiches offered as well as dinners. I believe it is the same menu all day...which I like...sometimes we just want a sandwich for dinner. Our server was very good (thank you Christine). It was all timely and not rushed. Next time we hope to be seated in the room that faces the river. It had better atmosphere and view of the river. Much nicer than the front room. Hubby would like to add King George in our rotation of restaurants. We will definitely be back. I am glad to see that Bristol has improved a lot over the years. The walkway along the river was all lit up and it was such a beautiful night. Lots of people strolling around and others fishing on the dock. Right amount proteins and sauce, and I'm always a sucker for a place that offers me sweet potato fries. The Apple Long Island Iced Tea was an interesting twist on the usual drink. Overall I enjoyed my food and it was incredibly reasonably priced too! I would definitely come back again.
