This new place is popping! We got there earlier, before it opened at 9 and the line was already long. We tried their edamame and bacon, the honey, the curry, the tuna filled, and matcha breads. We easily dropped 70 dollars on bread. With their above average bread quality, this place didn't disappoint in regard to taste. However, their limited quality/hours doesn't match/meet the demand that is present. It's definitely worth trying but I'd recommend coming during a weekday. read more

READ FIRST BEFORE GOING: Amazing bread and goods, went right when it opened and the pasteries tasted so fresh! The abundance of low reviews is NOT BECAUSE OF THE FOOD, but because people showed up too late when items were already sold out. FOOD IS AMAZING you just have to show up early. I went there with my friend for the first time. It was about 10:30. I thought there was no choice to queue up. As a result, there were many bread options, and the price was also very acceptable, because most of the breads now are at the same price. I don't know why others give them such a good quality with such a low evaluation. It's really not easy to do business now. Please support such a small store. read more

Went afternoon around 9 am. There wasn't much of a line which was great. But there wasn't much of a line because everything was sold out. I had my son as we grabbed two of the chocolate breads. They were still a bit warm too! Ripped one package open immediately and took a bite. It's ok, it reminds me of a popover. So it was nothing special, but still yummy. If you're a huge popover fan I'd check it out. Nothing bad to say about the place except I don't think the bread is for me. read more

Came on a Friday around 10:30AM. No line. Ample breads on shelf. 5-6 of each or more: Mou, Chocolate Mou, Tuna and Cheese Mou, Cranberry Mou, Croque Monsieur Mou. Devoured a Tuna and Cheese, I love how the bread is soft but a little crunchy. read more

Arrived at Bread, Espresso & around 1:15pm on Friday and the line was relatively short out the door. There was a good supply of Mou bread that was limited to 1 per person, which they were enforcing. I also grabbed a French toast, Bacon edamame mou, and cranberry nuts mou. While the bread tasted okay/good, it did not warrant the steep prices and did not stand out in terms of bread/pastries. In the midst of all the Asian bread shops in LA, it wasn't very unique and I do not understand the hype besides it being new. The store front is small but clean and comfortable. I went back when it got little slower. We tried lobster bisque and it was horrible. Its rare I complain about food and it was pretty bad. It was way too fishy, if I hadn't pay over $20 for it, I would not have touch the dish after one bite.. We also had ham and cheese toast, and this was okay. I get it, bread has unique texture to it but would I come back?.. hum.. I dont think so. I rather get bread from Japanese pastry shop in mitsuwas market. read more

I went with my best friend who loves checking out Japanese bakeries. We did their brunch and I was severely disappointed. You don't get much for the price, and my meal was literally a small piece of bread with one sunny side egg on top and a salad. Nothing special at all. I also tried their iced matcha blueberry tea and it was gross. They didn't even use fresh blueberries. My friend though did say she liked one of their baked goods. Maybe I just don't understand their food (even though I'm Japanese American though). read more

This is solely based on our experience on 2/2/25. Stopped by around 11am and everything has been sold out, except the lobster bisque mou. It was decent, but nothing special. Parking was a pain in the arse. Service was quick and friendly. Maybe it's not a fair review since we didn't get to try anything else, but we probably won't go out of our way to do so either. read more

This place was a poor experience. A lot of hype around but overall left pretty disappointed. They set out batches of their bread. One at 9a and at 1p. They sell out quickly, but only because they don't produce enough product. Once it's gone, you have to wait or order their $16-$22 plates. I don't understand how you have so much hype and can't produce enough product. Losing out on money. We arrived at 930. There was no breads left, only cold sammich options which can't event be heated up. Would have had to wait until 1p to try their actual breads. If you have the demand, you have to be able to keep up the supply. The bread wasn't bad, nothing memorable IMO. Coffee and matcha were very mid. Can't even order an espresso despite it being part of their business name??? There are better options, especially in Torrance. read more

Street parking is very easy here. We got here at 9:45 and everything was sold out. But I think everyone is here for the breakfast menus. We got the Lobster Bisque and French Toast. The Lobster Bisque was a bit too rich for me. The French Toast was nice. Anyway it was fun to try this place but it's pricey for what it is and I probably won't go back ;-( read more

Finally tried their toast honey and butter plate and their mou bread! It was better than expected! I really love how it comes with salad and yogurt which for me, is a perfect breakfast to start your day! The mou bread is thick and soft on the inside, it's way too good! The service is excellent, it is small inside, but there's a lot of tables and chair where you can eat and chill. I definitely recommend this place and for sure will be back to try all their mou breads. You do have to come early because they have limited quantities. Forever love Japanese food and cafes! read more

I get that some people can line up right at 7 AM when they open, but not everyone has that flexibility. Just feels frustrating, if you are not ready to serve more people, maybe adjust the hours or the supply. read more

Decided to try this place today based on the reviews. Pastries looked great and I had to try a couple. They didn't disappoint. But my main reason for going in was a cup of coffee to join the pastry. Coffee was mid. Nothing special. I don't remember the last time I struggled SO much with a coffee cup lid. It kept dripping all over the place. Stained my shirt. It was a bit annoying. Service was friendly and the place is cute with cool vibe with music. Not too sure if I would go back. A lot of places with good baked goods and coffee combo. I recommend you spend on better lids. read more

$18 (!?!) for bread, butter (not even melted on bread), and honey (served on the side in the bear squeeze jar - nothing special or unique), with a thimble of yogurt and berries, and a salad (at breakfast???) with little to no dressing! Ummm, what? Go for baked goods or coffee (still overpriced and good, not fabulous) if you have to. Do not go for breakfast! Side note - their French toast is not served until 11am. read more

From the perspective of a first time guest: My friend and I were in the area and wanted to come in and try this new place that's being hyped. They have a pretty good location with parking in the back, and the interior is gorgeous with wood and faux cement ceiling tiles, cute seating and a seemingly well-designed bakery lane and counter. Taking a step back though, when we first opened the door there was a line seemingly going the opposite way of the order counter. The end of the line was actually at the counter. So in function, the layout is a bit confusing, but we quickly understood why. What we didn't understand is why the person at the front wasn't choosing any of the displayed items, so we asked the staff and they said that the bakery sections opens at 1pm (it was already passed 1). They finally made their way out with the rest of the bread and by about 110 they allowed us to start going through- yay! Fair enough! What really left a bad taste in my mouth though is not the food, but the young Japanese-American girl that works there basically talking sh** about the customers in Japanese. Hello, you're in the South Bay, in a Japanese bakery/cafe, in a room full of Asian guests and otherwise. You don't think some people will understand you? She was essentially inferring that we, the customers, were stupid for queuing inside of the cafe and not outside. That we were somehow annoying and in the way. Sorry, but you as staff need to control that by either directing the line as it begins to form, setting up a line barrier, etc. When they brought out the remaining items to stock the bakery, she was directed us as if we were staff to clear the area, very coldly, instead of kindly asking us to make space. Like zero common sense or hospitality. Even her co-worker said "maybe it's because it's cold outside" to which she responded "well they shouldn't wait inside". Poor service ruins the vibes, and does a disservice to the hard work that goes into operating a business and creating a special product. It's a spit in the face to the customers and to your coworkers, and has no place in a Japanese bakery cafe. So many thoughtful little touches, great music, the owner obviously put his heart into this. Sorry to say it's being ruined by one of your staff. The bread is good. read more

As of my visit last week, they only make 2 batches of their Mou bread a day. I lined up before their second batch at 1PM came out on a rainy day and wasn't able to try flavors I anticipated most. They only make a handful of random flavors per batch despite demand. They didn't make the cinnamon roll Mou and the red bean Mou sold out 10 people into the line. Only tried the french toast and cream Mou in store. They were good but really overhyped. I don't think it's worth coming back for. read more

Was able to get in line early and was able to snag one of their limited breads! Tried the matcha French toast which was so rich and delicious. Also tried their lobster bisque bread bowl and it was amazing and exactly what I needed, the bread is SO SOFT!! I will definitely be coming back to try their clam chowder bread bowl and also excitedly waiting for them to add matcha to their menu!! read more

Loved that it has a rich matcha flavor and mango sticky flavor didn't overpower the drink. If anything, it complimented well with the matcha. I love it and would absolutely order it again. Unfortunately, they didn't have any pastries left other than a couple bagels. I wanted to try their croissants but maybe next time when I'm in the area again. The place is super clean and organized. They have a wifi, an outlet, a couple tables for single or multiple customers as well as comfy couches. The restroom was also clean and smells great. Highly recommend this place. Not only was I able to complete so many tasks but was also able to just relax. Loved the vibe here!

I decided to visit on a weekday to avoid the weekend rush and arrived at 6:45 AM on a Wednesday. There were already about five people in line. Although the shop is supposed to open at 7 AM, they didn't open the doors until 7:20 AM. This also happened to a friend on a previous visit, so delayed openings seem to be a recurring issue - without any notice or apology. Hopefully, they can improve their prep time and open as scheduled. The shop still feels a bit underprepared and understaffed, but I hope it improves with time. Once inside, I noticed a sign limiting purchases to one bread per person, but no one followed it, and the staff didn't enforce it. I didn't mind since it gave me the chance to try multiple flavors. I grabbed several varieties of MOU bread -whipped red bean, honey, tuna, chocolate, edamame, curry, and custard. My top three were the honey, tuna, and whipped red bean. The rest were decent but nothing extraordinary - similar to what you'd find at other Asian bakeries. Would I go back? Maybe if it was way closer to me and there was no wait. One thing to note even on a weekday, they sold out within 30 minutes, with the next restock not happening until 1 PM. If you're looking for a standout brunch spot near the beach, Bread, Espresso & is a must-visit. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious, and you can really taste the quality in their signature Mou bread. Their bread and pastries are incredibly fluffy and flavorful. We ordered the clam chowder bowl served with their Mou bread on a skillet; comforting, rich, and so satisfying. The chicken sandwich was another highlight, perfectly made with that same soft yet slightly crisp Mou bread. But the real star for me was the French toast was truly one of a kind. It's made with their Mou bread and filled with an egg custard in the center, giving it this amazing texture: fluffy on the inside with perfectly crisp edges. Drinks were just as impressive; the hojicha latte and matcha latte were both spot on, well-balanced and not overly sweet. The space itself is clean, spacious, and welcoming, and the staff are friendly and attentive. Today, I went to "Expresso and Bread Bakery" and bought a super delicious bread called "MOU Red Bean." The outer crust is incredibly crispy and chewy, while the inside is soft and filled with plenty of cream and red bean paste. The red bean paste is very smooth, and the cream is wonderfully sweet, but not overly so. Each bite makes it hard to stop eating, and once you finish, you feel really satisfied and happy! read more

We've been coming since the beginning and have worked through a pretty good chunk of the menu. Sweet, savory, tuna, sausage, fruit, ice cream, mochi. There's a lot here that I like. The tangerine and yuzu crepe is delicious. Bright, sweet, tart, refreshing, probably the best thing I've had here. The mochi ice cream was excellent too. The tuna crepe works, although mine was buried under a little too much Kewpie style mayo. At least the lettuce underneath stayed crisp, which gave it some needed texture. And that brings me to the crepe. The flavor is good. The batter has a pleasant chew. But every one I've had has been soft from edge to edge. I keep waiting for that whisper thin crispness around the exterior, something to contrast the softer center, and it just never arrives. Instead, it tends to eat a little mushy. Not bad. Just less interesting than it should be. If I were reviewing the food alone, Wakaba would probably be closer to four stars. The reason it ends up at three is the service. We initially gave them the benefit of the doubt because they were new. Opening jitters, figuring out systems, whatever. But enough time has passed and the same strange coldness is still there. Nobody needs to perform happiness for me. I don't need some fake Disneyland routine while somebody makes a crepe. But there's a difference between efficient service and making customers feel like they're interrupting you. We've brought our kids, ordered plenty, said thank you, tried to be friendly and repeatedly walked away feeling like the people behind the counter would rather we weren't there. That matters. Especially because this is supposed to be a fun food. A crepe wrapped around fruit, tuna, sausage, whatever ridiculous combination you've talked yourself into should not somehow come with the emotional atmosphere of renewing your driver's license. And that's the frustrating part, the food is pretty good. The yuzu tangerine crepe alone convinced me this isn't a two star restaurant. There's a real product here. I just wish the hospitality matched it. Good crepes, inconsistent texture, genuinely delicious combinations and service that makes the entire experience harder to enjoy than it needs to be. I'll probably still come back occasionally, because there aren't many places doing this anymore. I just wish walking through the door felt as good as the food sometimes tastes.
