I wanted to see what all the hype was about so I Strolled in here at 1:30 on a rainy Wednesday afternoon 2/22/25 and no line and somewhat stocked! Plenty of MOU bread! Good timing as they said the line had just subsided. Tried MOU of course ( limit 1) the French toast, a chicken curry sandwich and a raisin bread. Total $35 this place is the bomb! This bread is off the charts! It's one of those things that once you try it, you will get it. Super sweet and friendly service. Yes it is worth the hype and yes there is a reason folks will stand an hour + for this spongy slice of heavenly yumminess! I'm a believer! This Japanese bakery & coffee place just opened two days ago and has a lot of hype that wasn't lived up to. The line is way too long for one small loaf of bread plus they weren't even serving coffee that is on their menu. One couple in front of us waiting at least 30 minutes in line to order coffee only to be told they weren't serving any so they walked out. They should have an employee out in the line telling the customers this or at the very least a sign. We did get a load the "famous" Mou bread and it was good but not earth shattering. I also grabbed one of the last prosciutto & mozzarella sandwiches in the to go fridge. I later ate it home only to find one measly piece of prosciutto and 3 little pieces of mozzarella which I paid a whopping $14.40 for, definitely not worth the money. I sure hope they work out the opening kinks and cater more to their customers. A hyped up new restaurant should be more prepared to serve their customers. read more

Okay, long line. It's a new place. That's cool. The Mou bread is tasty. But really, only 50 loaves of bread? There are workers standing around behind the counter looking at their phones - bake more bread people. Also, paid $14 for a potato salad and ham sandwich - that's fine, but the bottom half of the sandwich was a crust slice - at that price? What? Okay, I should have checked - my fault - but it was still disappointing. It's a new business (not truly though since they exist in Japan) so they get a tiny break, but standing in line for 40 minutes - they opened 15 minutes late - gives you time to think. They can, and should improve, but for now, they are definitely not operationally ready. read more

The french toast was do delicious! Next time im going to order the french toast on its own, for me the plate was too much food. The bread was so custardy and soft. I also loved the pastries in the cases, i got the chocolate melonpan and others. I will try to come back here again. I havent found any other japanese french toast restaurants. read more

This place just opened and the negative reviews are about poor logistics (which are legitimately frustrating). For example, they are running one register, you wait in line to get in Without knowing if any bread is available, they opened late, espresso machine wasn't working etc. Just to illustrate the scenario from the weekend -- I was 20th in line and by the time I got in the store many of the breads had been taken by the first customers who sampled the gamut of available items without consideration for the 100 people behind them. Pretty frustrating to need to wait to enter to then find out there isn't any bread left but I think you'd be able to buy their dine in items. FWIW the breads are as good as what I get in Japan so the product is five stars (but I wouldn't wait for it in a long line). Hopefully the lines die down and the workers also figure out some logistics of handling the crowds. --- Update: with the lines dying down it seems like some of the frustrations should as well. I have been able to go an hour or two after open and find something I'd actually want to eat (like melon pan, cinnamon bread, or French toast) read more

We came in & saw 'toast' on the menu for what we thought was alot for bread YET we also saw the pics so weren't quite sure...we were pleasantly surprised, The staff was friendly & everything on the toast plate was fresh & delicious. Both the mou and coffee were delicious. However, the medium iced latte was only 14oz and had a lot of ice, so after just a few sips, there wasn't much left to drink. Because of that, it felt a bit pricey, and I don't think I'll be visiting frequently. read more

The line is pretty long but its worth a try for sure. The chocolate mou bread and regular mou bread were both great. French toast was good as well. It has a very nice aesthetic and reminded me of my trip to tokyo. Def reccomend! If they run out of stuff dont worry because they did a restock while we were eating around 8:30! read more

i just wanted to start off by saying my alarm was set for 6:10 am this morning. i live about 15 minutes away, near mira costa, so practically the other side of town. i'm a huge fanatic about japanese bakeries, and i believe other than the french, they do it best. when i arrived there was a line outside the door of course, per expected hence why i had woken up before opening time to secure a spot in line. the line was surprisingly not too bad, considering other reviews/experiences I had heard about online. i waited about 8 minutes or less before choosing my bread. coming into the store, I had expected the "one mou bread per person rule" to stand. people were grabbing five breads per tray. since i saw as that rule did not stand, i decided to grab two. one for me and one for my mom, i mean come on. anyways, when i got to the checkout, I didn't expect my total to be that expensive, i mean my total rounded up to be $23 for two mou breads and a black iced tea, but did I pay it, yes. many bakeries, and restaurants around this area have become overall increasingly expensive and this is no shock per say. the iced black tea was one of the smoothest blends of tea, i've ever had. as a huge tea drinker myself, it is rare for me to find such a tea that delivers both flavor and texture. definitely some of the best tea i've ever had. the breads were delightful as well, though i wasn't jaw-dropped impressed. i believe if they were warmed up, it might've been a more pleasant experience. in conclusion, this place has four stars due to my experience and i would definitely visit again, but likely during their 1 pm batch to avoid getting up viciously early again. read more

This small bakery / restaurant is still in soft opening phrase, and it is already overwhelmed due to media coverage from press and the social media across LA, so there is a lot of hype going on, and causing the long line. To me, it is a 4 to 5 star bakery, but I can understand the frustration for those giving low scores, as it is not easy to buy bread until the hype slows down. If you live far away, I recommend you to wait for a few months before the visit, just wait all the hype to die down first. If you really want to visit and buy bread to go, as of right now, you either come before 7am, or before 1pm as the new batch of bread is ready to roll-out. Of course, expect to wait in the line. This is a small shop, due to the hype, it sell outs quickly in between half to 1 hour. Let's say if you come to visit at 10am or 3pm, the bread shelf may be empty by then, although there are some other stuffs left in the fridge to buy. If you want to get a taste of its bread cube, then you can dine-in and order the combo dishes from its menu. I did order one of the dishes, it comes with salad, bread cube and yogurt, the food did not disappoint, it tastes great. This place is quite expensive, but it is definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. Service is good, and you can see the workers are so tired after the morning rush. The bread sold here is truly unlike anything I've ever had before. This shop became a huge success as a chain in Japan, and when I heard they opened their first location in Redondo Beach, I had to check it out. It was so delicious that on my second visit, I bought a bunch to share with my family, and everyone loved it. I left the bread in the bag open all day, yet it remained just as soft and fresh as if it had just been baked. The store itself is beautiful and cozy and the staff is incredibly friendly. Once you try their bread, you won't be able to go anywhere else! read more

Wowwww. Bread is super soft and yummy! Our favorites are the matcha melon bread and red bean mou! Highly recommend :))

This place is very nice on the inside with lots of tables and a wide space. They have a patio seating area to enjoy your coffee and pastry. Their service is excellent. The staff are very welcoming and warm. The Hojicha bread was our personal favorite. Light, not too sweet, and delicate! The bacon and edamame Mou bread was okay. It was lacking bacon and edamame, I believe I only got 3 edamame beans total. Will have to try the other Mou breads for a definitive answer. For now I would personally go without the Mou bread. Note: purchased a Mou bread that was listed under the raisin sign but it was misplaced with a regular Mou bread instead, very unfortunate. I did go at the end of the day though so maybe another customer misplaced this. However, this bakery was very nice to visit and try, and will definitely be coming back to try alternatives. read more

Tried this location twice now. Arrived both times in the mornings yet they completed sold out of fresh baked goods. Coffee drinks were good, and the cold French toast in the refrigerated section tasted surprisingly good, almost like a canele. The iced matcha sadly wasn't good, which was unexpect because this chain is from Japan. The iced matcha tasted like plain oat milk with too much sweetener and only a faint hint of matcha tea. The cup was filled only 3/4 full though it cost almost $8 for only a medium size. Kiari West Bakery, which is just down the street and also originated from Japan, is much better than this new place. read more

I went mid day Friday, they had a lot in of bread available and more coming out. The custard square bread was the best and chocolate was also very good. Sadly didn't get to try this place after driving 1 hr and waiting for 45 minutes worker came out to announce that bread was sold out and it will take another hour to bring more bread out. 10 minutes later of waiting the worker comes out again to announce bread won't be available until 12 noon, whole 3 hours later. Very disappointed and feeling like we wasted gas time and sleep for kids. read more

Went there twice in one day. First time at 11:35 and there was no bread left. Understandable. Was told to come back at 11, which I did. Only two kinds of bread left and found out I was only allowed to buy one of each when I had originally planned on getting three of each to share with friends. The bread is good but not worth the hassle and price. You can go to any other Asian bakery and get similar quality of bread. read more

I'm a huge fan of crunchy buttered toast. This place excels in that for sure. I got lucky on their opening day and arrived 30 minutes prior to closing and snagged a single Mou and a refrigerated French toast. Both were outstanding and enjoyed the next morning!!! Subsequently I went back the next morning to try more and arrived at 9:15am and line out the door and everything sold out, so I bought a drip coffee. Which was fine. I went back again Saturday morning at 7:20am and the word has gotten out the line was out the door and down the block. Sadly I couldn't wait today, but will definitely come back to enjoy more of their selections. So glad to have another fine bakery within walking distance. read more

Not sure why they can't make more but my family and I will no longer even attempt to go there anymore, as there are so many other great bakeries in the area. I came from far away to try this bakery. The hours said it closed at 5pm, I arrived at 3:50pm and they said they were closed. I wasnt expecting for there to be any bread left since it's so popular, but I wanted to at least have some espresso or check out the place. But they wouldn't even let us inside! The doors were wide open too and I could clearly see customers inside and seated outside. So very disappointing. They open at 7 AM, and we arrived at 8:45 AM after a 45-minute drive. By the time we got there, all the bread was sold out. We waited in line for an hour just to get one mou (a small square loaf). The taste was okay--soft inside, but nothing particularly special. Given that experience, it's hard to want to go again. read more

I waited outside in the cold and rain for 40 minutes, and noticed they were not letting anybody inside despite having a lot of prepared food on display. I went inside to ask what is happening and the server told me I have to wait my turn in line like so many other people are happy to do. The personnel is very disrespectful of a potential customer's time and they have enough people working there that someone should be able to come outside and explain the long line of waiting people that there is a good chance they would not receive service. This is not an establishment that caters to normal working people, disabled people, elderly people, people with disabilities, etc. Who has time to wait outside in line for 40 minutes on a workday for such terrible service? I agree with the other reviewer that it is not great form to review a place without even trying their product, but management is exceptionally poor and clearly doesn't care about serving clientele. If the food is as good as the reviews say it is doubly unfortunate because I can't see this place staying open for long the way they are going. read more
