The sandwiches are decent but highlight is the bread. It's fresh baked foccacia that I wouldn't mind eating by itself. They sell their sandwiches in half and full portions. The size of their sandwiches is a very common question, so they have the sizes on display by the register to explain it. Basically a half sandwich is going to be the typical portion size you'd have for lunch. It's a square of foccacia bread but it will be sliced in a diagonal so you get two pieces. A full portion is twice this amount and it'll be so much that you can expect to get it on two separate trays. The service was friendly and pretty quick. We waited about 10 minutes for our food on a Thursday afternoon. There were a decent amount of customers there but it wasn't so loud that we couldn't hold a conversation. We got the roast beef and combo grinder. The roast beef was very tasty and more flavorful than the combo grinder. The Combo grinder was a sandwich packed with protein if that's what you're going for. The only downside I noticed with the combo grinder was what happened every time I took a bite. The sandwich contents would get pushed to the opposite side despite the toothpick going through everything. Don't forget their Zabs bottle that you can bring to your table. It's a chili sauce that goes REALLY well with the sandwich. It was a little pricey for sandwiches but that's just the area we live in I guess. Roast beef had good flavor and liked the horseradish spread. Chicken salad was a kind of a basic chicken salad with an addition of sweetness from green apple. But, the bread was not what I was hoping for. It was a little bit crunchier for my liking but not bad. I interpret this to mean that the best of the world hits you (both in small and big ways) when you have your eyes wide open and searching the canvas for a home for your next magnificent splatter or broad stroke. I want to believe that my eyes are open to opportunity and that is why I ended eating at this place that allowed me to try the best sandwich of my life. And yes, I know what I said, and I meant it. I subscribe to the South Bay Newsletter and its August 10th issue highlighted this place as their restaurant of the week. The small blurb noted that Bread Head was "founded by two Michelin star chefs Alex Williams and Jordan Snyder who previously worked at the acclaimed Trois Mec, this isn't your average deli - it's sandwich artistry at its finest." And I agree with the content, the joint did not serve deli fare it served sandwiches that were work of art best appreciated by the palette. I also have been to Trois Mec, specifically to enjoy their famed Big Mec. And if I had a rose to give that made either joint feel chosen, I would give it to BreadHead, their sandwich was best in race by more than twenty strides. As I neared the spot, I felt a note of excitement, I was about to get my daily carbs. The name of the place was fun and modern. Bold lettering centered in a clean wall. It was like I was seeing the spirit of Comic Sans, not just the tilt and color of the font. As I waited in line- that was well deserved and short- I took a brief example of all that I saw. It was too much to take in. Meaning, that this was not casual spot, it was an accessible place by intent but was styled by the same kind of force that dressed St. Tropez. The place had a vibe that did not just happen, it was curated, but they wanted you to believe it was effortlessly lazy, like a girl who spent hours for a lazy Sunday look. As I neared the stand, I saw a can with the word pickle. I will be brave and try pickle soda today. But alas it was Pickle Beer. And I never really developed the taste for beer or wine, which in some people's eyes make me a lesser foodie. I did not have my glasses, so I was going to order in cooperation with a staff member. I asked Kate- a cashier who was working during her summer break from Colgate college, and no it is not like McDonald's university, is small liberal arts college in up state NY- what was their most popular item? She said that everything tasted was ordered a lot regularly, but her personal favorite was the Calabrian Turkey. I will admit that I do not know what Calabrian (even sometimes mighty oaks tremble at small breezes) is. She did say the word spicy. I dislike chiili taste. It is no longer pleasant or welcomed by me. I should have asked more about the sandwich and its spicy traits. But there was a line. I should have trusted my gut, but I assumed that the chili taste was going to be subdued or one that somehow will spark respect within me. But the spice was the tragedy of the turkey sandwich. But let me be extremely clear, the sandwich was a bite to dream about. The cheddar was so forward in its taste that you knew you were tasting cheddar in its purest form. It was a clean and deep cheddar taste that was joy in a fixed point. The lettuce crisp the Turkey true and again clean and deep in taste. This sandwich would have been a unique treat for any lover of Tapatio or Sriracha or Habanero. But for me, it was a miss by concept, which is a me thing, not the sandwich's fault. However, the Chicken Salad sandwich was love at first bite. And what was great, is that the love expanded and solidified itself, for it was sublime, like I was surprised at how much I loved that sandwich. I went on a blind date and it is like as soon as I opened the door my date said, "face it tiger you hit the jackpot!." and meant it not from unearned confidence or superiority but because it knew that I wanted that moment and it arrived being its own messenger. My spider sense just tingled. At one point the most present bite of the sandwich was the saltiness and crispiness of the foccasio, at other times it was the tang of the apple butter, and at other times it was the crisp and flavor of the green apple. The serve was also elegant and choreographed so that the chaos of the place became part of its charm. Evertime an item was going to be taken away from me, first I was asked. I was allowed to say no when I wanted to eat the remaining cheddar and lettuce on my plate. And trust me I did out of indulgence that was mandated. My only point is that the chip selection did not meet the height of the sandwiches. Like there chips selection had Rusty's (which I can find at Smart&Final) and zappo boxes were present across the counter. And when I dropped the cap of my twist of cherry soda (which did feel unique and special) I picked it up and reprimanded myself for adding a smdge of dirt to the beach of pearls. read more

Service and ambiance was friendly, laid back. They are proud to use: Dukes Mayo, and offer Zappa potato chips. The chips we ordered were made locally in Huntington Beach: Rusty's Chips Island Style. They were the best bagged potato chips I've ever had. I noticed the BLT sandwich had Nueske bacon. Wow. A small meat shop in Northern Wisconsin. These people have really done their homework. Happy accident stumbling upon this Italian-sandwich-inspired spot! Apparently they opened literally a week ago and their grand opening was yesterday. Per rec, my friend and I got the combo grinder and mozzarella to share - half size of each. When we first opened it, we were shocked at how big the "half" was that we thought they gave us a whole on accident LOL but the portions are just that generous! As for the taste!!! Combo grinder was solid if you want more protein. Gets pretty messy with everything inside. But for flavor, we both liked the mozzarella more because of the sauces in it and the pickled onions! Game changer. Taking a bite without much sauce and pickle and mostly sprouts tastes more bland but the two with the mozzarella is really nice. The Muffaletta sounds interesting so will need to try that next time! May be helpful to order online on a busy weekend day, esp, or expect to wait a bit! I visited Bread Head this weekend with my son and have mixed feelings about the experience. The restaurant is cute and clean, the service is really warm and friendly, and the sandwiches are delicious. However, there's not really enough meat in a half sandwich to feel fully full at lunch. And then, if you wanna get a full size sandwich, it's $30! For a sandwich! My son loved his kids sandwich, which is about the same size as a half sandwich with way less meat and general fixings inside. And one of the servers was really sweet and brought us some cookies which were fantastic. But at the end of the day, this place is just doing focaccia bread and charging an arm and a leg for it. Focaccia bread is not hard. It does not take Michelin star chefs to produce. And it certainly does not cost $30. If this place charged a reasonable price for a sandwich, it would be our new favorite spot and we'd be coming here all the time: that's how much we enjoyed it. But I can't in good faith spend $15-$16 on a sandwich that doesn't fill me up or spend twice as much for just more bread. Even the plain potato chips are almost $4 for a bag - not housemade or anything, just brought in from elsewhere. And when you bite into the sandwich, everything falls right out. Now that I've been to Bread head a few times, I think I have a good assessment and thought I would share. Overall, food-wise, Bread Head is a decent choice. I rounded up to 4 stars on the whole. The sandwiches are good but not over the top good. The 3 that I have tried are, the Ruben, the Chicken Parm and the Calabrian Turkey. The bread is, of course, what makes the sandwiches unique. The bread is tasty but pretty crispy. I didn't think it went well with the Ruben as much as the other two. Maybe I am too into having the rye bread flavor with that combo of meat and sauerkraut but it really didn't enhance the flavor there for me. Loved the flavors for the Chicken Parm but the chicken breast I got was a bit on the tough side. The Calabrian Turkey was overall good. Also got to try the dark chocolate coffee cookies - those were really good. Service was for the most part good and it is in a great spot in DTMB. Note that if you order on-line for pickup, it says ready in 30 minutes. It's really like 15 minutes, and if you order a hot sandwich, it might be less than hot. read more

Was excited to try this place. I got the Grinder and the Mozzarella veggie one. I wish their bread wasn't so burnt at the top. Mine was a bit more burnt than the ones in the yelp photos. Hope they fix it. If they are charging premium prices, quality should be better. But maybe it's just me but I saw another reviewer mention this as well. Also, would recommend eating within 10 mins. After some time, the sauces will start to soak the bottom of the bread and it gets kinda gross and soggy so I wouldn't suggest takeout if you live farther away.
