We ordered our food to go, and it was ready quickly. The Arnold Palmer was delicious. I had the pesto turkey and my son had the Calabrian turkey. The sandwiches are generously sized and packed with fillings. I loved the sprinkle of salt on top of the bread and the crunch of the crust is so satisfying. Both sandwiches were delicious but I think the turkey pesto was my fave. I would have it again, but I can't to try another one next time!

I've tried a few sandwiches here now, and they've all been so filling. My favorites are the muffaletta and the mozzarella. The combo grinder wasn't my thing, but is a beast of a sandwich! The bread here is really delicious and has a good texture, and the value can't be beat. There is a decent amount of casual seating inside for small parties as well.

Their sandwiches are so tasty! I had the roast beef and it was so good. It felt very healthy too. Staff were very nice, service was great. Great open atmosphere, doesn't feel crowded, and nice flow of customers. I'm planning to try their other locations for their breakfast items. Heard those are worth a try :)

I stopped by around 2pm on a Saturday and it was really busy! Nowhere to sit inside and barely any space at the front patio, so I grabbed my food to go. I got the combo and the dark chocolate cookies (originally wanted to try the special chocolate chip, but they were sold out). Ultimately, that ended up being for the best because I'm pretty sure those cookies are the best I've ever had? I was shocked. Might have to come back and sample again for uhh science. The combo sandwich was also delicious--10/10, no notes. Loved everything they put on it too and the bread was SO fresh. Also good to note that when they call your name inside you really need to pay attention. I heard them call one person's name for an order maybe 3-4 times and on the last time, when no one showed up to pick it up, they threw out the sandwich. Probably a food safety issue, but I'd make sure to keep an ear out for your order!

This is two whole sandwiches! Only order if you plan on having an entire sandwich as leftovers

Since I wrote my last review, I've been back for several sandwiches at bread head. They now serve normal sized sandwiches (not "halves" as a normal size) and they're still sooo good. My top two are the Calabrian turkey and the combo grinder, but the Cuban isn't far behind. I wish it was an every day option, but they only offer it on Wednesdays I believe. My friend and I ordered a Calabrian turkey last week to split and it was great! Still perfectly fresh even when ordering from a delivery app. I'm so glad this place exists and I'll keep going back!

My girl and I got 2 sandwiches she got the Italian and I got the Pesto Turkey. They were both incredibly delicious to say the least! Service was quick, friendly and fast. There's plenty of parking and the shop itself was clean, simple and inviting. Wasn't overly done or any of that it's an awesome sandwich with great people running it.

I had the Thursday special which is their pastrami sandwich. This sandwich is fantastic for a few reasons. The first being the pastrami comes from RC Provisions, arguably LAs best meat purveyors. And then the obvious reason: the bread. It's easily one of the better toasted buns you'll get for a sandwich if you like a thin, lightly toasted, perfectly crunchy, flavorful bun. It's kind of like a focaccia (it could very well be) bread, and it is really something special. The toppings and condiments were the perfect compliment to the meat and bread. But know that if you're looking for a mountain of meat like you'd get a Jewish deli when you order a pastrami sandwich, this isn't the spot for that, but the sandwich is still excellent and worth trying. The service is counter service, and it was friendly. The guy was chill and pretty cool which was noticeable even with a brief interaction. And the ambiance is chill, and the seating area and bathroom are both very clean. The prices are sorta fair for Santa Monica, and parking is street only which can be a bit tough but not impossible. Overall, I enjoyed my meal, the vibe of the place, and I'd definitely visit again when in the area.

I tried the Ham & Butter sandwich and left a bit conflicted. The portion felt small for the price, and the salt level was so high it overwhelmed the sandwich. That said, the bread was excellent--light, thin, glazed focaccia that was crispy and perfectly golden. High-quality ingredients and good execution, but the salt and butter completely overpowered the ham. The ambiance was warm and lively, with high-top tables and what one would think is plenty of seating inside (it wasn't--placed was jammed packed), during a busy weekday in a holiday week. It feels crowded when busy. There's outdoor seating, though not helpful when it's raining. The Jimmy Buffett-themed bathroom was a fun surprise--my daughter loved it. Service was quick and the staff were super helpful with recommendations. Great bread, solid quality, friendly service--but the sandwich missed the mark for me due to heavy seasoning and value.

Picture this: You've just picked up your rental car, made it to the hotel, and now you're starving. You hear there's a restaurant packed neighborhood nearby, so you head over. And what do you spot? The legendary Bread Head. Cue the happy dance. Bread Head isn't just any sandwich spot, they build their masterpieces on thin, glazed focaccia. Yes, you heard that right. Light, crispy, perfectly golden focaccia. And honestly? These might be some of the best sandwiches I've ever had. We ended up sitting with two awesome women, and I mentioned the four sandwiches I couldn't decide between. Their response? "Those are all the best ones." So naturally, I got three of the four. My favorite? The BLT. As a certified BLT lover, this one nailed it. Crunchy lettuce, thick tomato slices, perfectly crispy bacon. It was sandwich perfection. And yes, I grabbed some cookies for the road. Because FOMO is real. The bathroom is also Jimmy Buffet themed which is so awesome.

What I Ordered: -Calabrian Sandwich $15.00 This was my first time at Bread Head, and I had heard it was one of the top sandwich spots in LA. I noticed jars of Duke's Mayonnaise everywhere, a clear sign of Southern influence - I learned the owner used to be a chef in New Orleans. Bread Head makes its own focaccia in-house, and it's the star of the sandwich. It's perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft inside. The roast turkey, sourced from RC Provisions, is fresh and high-quality, and I loved the sharp cheddar. The Calabrian Mayo, a blend of Duke's and Calabrian chili paste, has a nice kick. Overall, it was a truly great sandwich.

Overall, Bread Head's quality is outstanding, and the sandwiches were extremely flavorful! The only con is the sandwiches were a little pricey, but that's often the case for businesses in LA. I got the Combo Grinder, which I think was the most worth it and the most flavorful, and my partner got the Muffaletta. We ate them fresh and in-store (which I recommend) and you could immediately taste the crunchiness of the focaccia bread. The pepperoncinos gave the Combo Grinder a tasty, but subtle zing and super mild spice. I wish the Muffaletta had another vegetable aside from the olive salad, but it was still solid. Both sandwiches paired excellently with the hot sauce they provide in store, which is why I recommend eating it there. It's not too spicy at all, and gives the sandwich the perfect sweet, spicy aftertaste. We went on a Wednesday afternoon and there was no wait. There was plenty of seating, and the store is on a nice street in Santa Monica. The workers were super helpful, offering us their recommendations!

Sandwich here is overall tasty! Not sure it's worth $19 though, maybe more like $14.... Inside is bustling, went at 12:30 on a Saturday! Service is quick but nothing amazing in terms of friendliness. There's also outdoor seating too but when it's busy it's crowded.

Still in the conquest to find best sandwich in town, I was obviously overjoyed knowing another one opening near my neighborhood. Super close to one of my to-go coffee shop, La La Land, Bread Head was one of the latest hype on my FYP. As expected, line went pretty long on Saturday lunch time but fortunately it went quick up to the order point. It took awhile for them to prepare the sandwich, but as we could get seats and they delivered it to the table, surely no complaints. The venue was also fully air-conditioned, which was super helpful amidst this summer heat. We enjoyed their picnic nachos with tortilla chips ($13), which was essentially house made pimento cheese sauce. It was more on the salty side, but I quite liked it though I wouldn't say it's mind blowing and might be bit pricey for the size. It was nice that they offered the sandwich in half size so we could try more selections from the menu. First one we had was Combo Grinder ($14 half), which came in quite filling size considering this was half. It featured multiple proteins including Salami Cotto, Hot Coppa, Pit Smoked Ham, Aged Provolone, and Pepperoncini; for you who loved various kinds of meats in your sandwich. I appreciated the abundant stuffings here, though I would say it hadn't beaten some other recently hyped sandwich shops in town. Might score this 6 out of 10. Another one we tried was Muffaletta ($13 half), serving Salami Cotto, Mortadella, Pit Smoked Ham, Provolone, and Swiss. This certainly outpaced the first one for my liking as the Olive Salad and Garlic Mayo gave the overall taste extra kick, especially if you loved olives. Would score this 7/10 as for me taste was decent but hadn't made it to my top favorite sandwich list. Surely give it a try when you're around the area to satisfy the curiosity. read more

Outstanding sandwich! The focaccia bread was really good. Light but crunchy. I ordered the BLT and added avocado. I thought it was tasty but I was a little disappointed by how little bacon was in it. I would definitely eat here again! Line can get long though so keep that in mind. read more

Like I usually do, going to start with the positives. The store's ambiance and location are terrific. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They have a cute interior with decent seating. So the negatives here are the high price of the sandwiches and what is it included inside the sandwich and with a sandwich. The sandwiches need much more protein and cheese in them. I'm still not sure why La Diners don't insist on this with many of these high-end deli places. A $14 half sandwich better be full of meat with thick cheese, it is not here. As is the case with most of these high-end sandwich shops, the sandwich comes with nothing extra... Shame that LA restaurants refuse to give a side of chips on a $14 or $22 sandwich. While they have indoor seating, the stools that are in there are torture devices and unstable. So now to the focaccia, it is thin and crispy... I like it, but it was not as substantial as I expected. If you want good focaccia, go to Haute Mess on Melrose. read more

We got the jumbo full sized $29 turkey pesto sandwich and the half sized $17 combo grinder, It was OK!!! Not as flavorful as Carla's sandwiches. Wish the bead was crunchier and the turkey to be softer and perhaps warm. read more

Outstanding food and service. It is delicious, the staff are fantastic, and there are many options including some great sounding daily specials. My son and I wanted to try Bread Head and figured we would sample and share two of their more popular creations: Combo Grinder and Turkey Pesto. Their homemade foccacia bread is excellent...one of the better breads we have enjoyed on a sandwich. They come in half size ($13-$14) and full size ($24-26). Admittedly, the half size is likely enough for one person for lunch and is about the size of a normal sandwich - the full size can easily be shared by two people. The Combo Grinder is a tasty version of an Italian, with cured meats and peppers and great lettuce. The Turkey Pesto is delicious, with great combo of avocado, arugula, and garlic mayo. Both sandwiches were tasty and filling. The only caveat is the price/value. For the amount/quantity of ingredients in the sandwich, the value seemed average/low. The price is high, and while the food is delicious, it is a very expensive sandwich for what you get. Given that, we felt it rates a solid 4 stars. read more

INCREDIBLE SANDWICH END-STAGE-CAPITALISM PRICES I know it means it's in Santa Monica, which probably means there's some local tax that demands customers pay for the employee's health care - or whatever - but damn. $16ish for a half sandwich that should be max $12, and up to $30 for a full size sandwich which should be max $18, and this isn't even counting the infuriating obligatory forced shaming tip screen, which means when all is said and done, you could be looking at a $40 sandwich. Unbelievable but here we are. But again, sandwich is incredible. I just wish it would try and even remotely cater to real people who just want to have something good. You don't have to make SO much of a profit. I'm sure the business liaison will respond saying they barely make anything because of costs costs costs blah blah blah but Jesus. It's out of control But again, sandwich is incredible... I guess it was a nice one time treat. Wish it was somewhere I could frequent regularly. But only special occasions I guess. read more

I don't fully get Bread Head. Yes - the bread is good. Yes, the ingredients are fresh. But the price is... ooof. It just feels hard to justify the sandwich, even if it is great, with the price tag being high. Maybe if you're a huge fan of focaccia sandwiches. read more

Overall good sandwich! The filling to bread ratio was *chefs kiss*. People rave about the bread they make because it's a cross between focaccia and ciabatta, and it definitely tasted as good as they say. The fact it didn't cut up the inside of my mouth but also had enough structure to not fall apart in my hands was stellar. The flavors in the Cuban (and generally the sound of rest of the menu too) didn't blow me away, but the bread 100% makes it worth a try! read more

The shop seemed very bright and airy. Easy to place order online. For a shop with bread in its name, maybe that was the worst part of the sandwich? The sandwich was SO wet and yet the bread was super dense and dry and somehow oily at the same time. Ingredients did taste super fresh. It was all confusing like this review. read more

I came here on a whim after I realized I was walking the wrong way to a bookstore. I didn't know what to expect. I looked at their menu and decided to get the Calabrian Turkey. I'm a fan of Calabrian Chilies so why not, right? I sorta told the guy at the counter how I ended up there, he so lively and assured me that sometimes things happen for a reason... And yes!! The Universe totally conspired for me to stop there so that little ol me can eat the best Turkey sandwich ever. The bread was perfect, the cheese was perfect, the Turkey was perfect, heck even the iceberg lettuce was the best I ever had. Anyways all I know I will definitely travel from OC to SM to have that sandwich again I'll take photos next time. read more

I think I found my new favorite sandwich spot! I checked out Bread Head with a couple of friends and tried 4 different sandwiches. All the sandwiches feature bread head's homemade foccacia bread, which is so delicious, I'd happily eat it by itself. Order's come out in a reasonable amount of time, but if you're in a rush, they've got a grab and go option, with 5-7 of their popular sandwiches. Seating area is nice and clean, with giant windows looking out onto Montana. There's tables, as well as counter / bar type seating. I ordered a full size sandwich, which is probably the biggest sandwich I've ever seen in my entire life. It can easily feed 2 people. The half sized sandwich is a normal sized sandwich you'd get from any other restaurant. If you're hungry for a full size, I'd recommend getting it cut into fourths. Combo Grinder: This was my favorite. It's similar to a Italian hoagie, with cured meats, peppers and a really delicious vinaigrette. Calabrian Turkey: This was a pleasant surprise! The Calabrian mayo gives the sandwich a nice spicy kick. Would love to have it again with avocado. Turkey Pesto: This was a delightful, fresh, light tasting summer sandwich. Love combination of the arugula, avocado and garlic mayo... Muffaletta: For olive lovers! This is a Sicilian classic, and Bread Head's take did not disappoint! No leafy greens. I can't wait to visit again to try some of Bread Head's weekly hot sandwich specials. I noticed on the menu they do a Cuban on Wednesday, Reuben Thursday, and Sausage and Pepper on Friday. PS - Parrot Heads will get a kick out of bathroom. read more

This place is bustling on a Saturday afternoon and people are packed like sardines waiting for their order. Service is fairly quick and the line goes by fast so don't feel intimidated if you see one. The store only has seating for around 20 people so it's best to order your meal to go. We ordered 1/2 Calabrian Turkey and 1/2 Combo Grinder. 1/2 of a sandwich is already a full sandwich so only order the actual "full" size if you're sharing or really really hungry. I LOVED the turkey sandwich since it reminded me of an elevated turkey sandwich that I'd have during my childhood. Especially love the big wedge of iceberg lettuce in there for an extra crunch. The grinder is a classic Italian sandwich and sooo juicy from the peppers and peperoncino. I especially love these sandwiches for the thin focaccia since it's crunchy and well seasoned--such a nice crunch and texture for a sandwich. read more

I've hit up Bread Head twice now in 3 weeks! The sandwiches are delicious and it always hits the spot. I've now tried the Muffuletta and combo Grinder. Both were very satisfying but I'd probably go back to the muffuletta as the olive spread was just that extra special hit. Half sandwiches are more than enough for a meal for 1. Also tried the pimento cheese & chips, which were good, and they seem to have rotating sandwich and dessert specials. The space is small, and because it gets pretty crowded & popular, I'd plan on taking this to go, because seats may be hard to come by. Service is fast, and friendly. read more

Really amazing bread but inconsistent sandwiches Ordered 2 combo grinders. Both were huge but one sandwich had less meat and a single slice of lettuce and it also took an extra 10 minutes to come out. Really loved the sandwich but the quality can vary depending on who makes it I guess. read more

Why? Why is this place getting such amazing reviews. My sandwich was bland AF. Were the ingredients fresh? Yes. Was the bread good? It was good but not mind-blowing. We got the turkey pesto, and while I'll readily admit that turkey is not the most flavorful of meats, I was more disappointed that I couldn't taste the pesto at all. I could barely taste the cheese. Mostly I tasted turkey and mayo so that's a cafeteria level sandwich. There are plenty of other sandwich places in Santa Monica that serve a better sandwich. Sorry for the bad review but there's no point in returning here. Oh, and my husband wanted me to point out that he wasn't sure if he wanted the lemonade, so asked for a taste, but they wouldn't give us a taste so we both ended up not getting drinks. read more

I wish I could give more stars. From someone who knows and loves sandwiches, I am picky about them. These guys are doing everything right. The ingredients are so fresh and well thought out, & the ratios are perfect. They have so many good ones that I'm overwhelmed whenever I order because I want them all. Ones I've tried and loved are the muffuletta, turkey pesto, mozzarella, roast beef and BLT. Also, the pricepoint is great since the "half" is a normal sized sandwich. SO happy this place opened so close to me. The ONE critique I have is that sometimes you can get bread that is too crunchy and can hurt your mouth a bit. This happened to me with the BLT and it wasn't ideal but of course I still ate the whole thing. read more

There's a lot of hype about this place so we decided to check it out. Got 3 half sandwiches: Combo grinder, roast beef and mufaletta. Out of all three, the combo grinder is definitely the best but the other two were disappointing. The portions for the size were decent and it all came out pretty quick. As for the taste, the bread was thin and dry. The roast beef had way too much horseradish so that threw me off. The olive salad on mufaletta made the sandwich too salty so keep that in mind. Overall, nothing special but probably won't come again. read more

Waited a while before trying this place and was really happy with the quality. I got the roast beef sandwich and it was both filling and filled with flavor. I am addicted to their BLT...so tasty! The servers greet you pleasantly and wish a good day on the way out...it is nice to be treated with respect and see a smile. I often order online, and the sandwich, etc. is ALWAYS ready on time. Delicious bread is the key, and the cookies are a nice, sweet touch. Wow. Every single bite of the Combo Grinder was simply heaven. The sandwich was like Parisian bread got married to Jewish deli. Bread was crunchy at every bite. So splendid!!! Seriously delicious sandwiches in Santa Monica with a great interior design on the inside. The front is a bar with different types of drinks, featuring June Shine, and in the back is where you order the sandwiches. They offer large portion sizes and come in half or full size. The bread is also terrific and crunchy and really adds to the overall flavor. The sandwiches here are honestly addicting. Today we tried the Roast Beef (my fav), the BLT (large and delicious), and the Mozzarella (a great vegetarian option with great flavors). Parking in the area can be tricky depending on when you go but they do have a large pay lot in the back if needed. Never knew I needed focaccia in my life until Bread Head. They create the perfect sandwich. Thin focaccia. Crispy on the outside. Soft on the inside. We had the mozzarella which is great for vegetarians. Also has the turkey and BLT. Really can't go wrong here. I love that they give you a bottle of hot sauce too! History

Established in 2024.

Longtime friends chefs Alex Williams and Jordan Snyder first met while running one of LA’s finest kitchens, Trois Mec. Together, they earned a Michelin star rating, one of the very few such restaurants in Los Angeles. Among many things, they shared an appreciation for the art of the sandwich and set out to build one that was simple yet refined. It needed to taste incredible. Over the past several years, Alex and Jordan perfected their menu through several pop ups and catering events. Their sandwiches and sides were well received, even winning awards and appearing on “best of” lists from major news publications. In 2023, they partnered with Venice Brands (founder of Joolies, Kinderfarms, among other companies) and Michael Pasternak (former Director of Operations for Night + Market restaurant group). Together, they formed Bread Head Restaurant Group. Our first restaurant opened in June 2024 at 1518 Montana Avenue in Santa Monica, and we are actively working on our second location.

Everything came close to $20. I sat in my car, (which thank goodness, this seafood market has its own parking lot, so that was greatly appreciated), and dug into my soup. Unfortunately, the soup was pretty bland and needed a bit more salt. But, I will say that the ingredients used in the fish chowder were all very fresh, and fish wasnt overcooked, but it needed to be seasoned more. Hawaiian poke was great, excellent taste. Overall, a so so experience, I would have liked better scenery to eat my food being I was very close to the beach and wished I had a more seasoned fish chowder. I could be convinced to come back and give it a second try, but I think I might prefer to visit Malibu Seafood which isnt too far from here and has great ocean views.

Breadhead in Santa Monica has been on my must-visit list ever since we fell head over heels for their sandwiches at the Santa Monica Food & Wine Festival. We loved them so much that we kept tabs on the opening of their Santa Monica location. Finally visiting felt like a full-circle moment, and it was everything I hoped for and more. I came here to meet up with friends, and the vibe was just perfect--super cute, with a welcoming atmosphere. That said, it's definitely on the pricier side, but the portions and quality make it worth it. We ordered two sandwiches, and let me tell you, they were gigantic! I now understand why people often opt for the half portion, but honestly, having leftovers for lunch the next day just added to the excitement. The sandwiches are seriously next-level, packed with flavor and so satisfying. To complement our sandwiches, we ordered the Picnic Nachos, which were a fantastic addition. They were flavorful, and perfect for sharing. But the real surprise of the day was the apple pie. It's not an everyday menu item, so having it available felt like such a treat. I love that Breadhead includes special items from time to time--it keeps things fresh and makes each visit feel unique. And I can't forget to mention the lemonade--it was magical. Seriously, one of the most delicious and refreshing lemonades I've ever had. Every sip was perfection, and it paired so well with the meal. Overall, Breadhead absolutely lived up to the hype. The portions, flavors, and thoughtful touches (like the rotating specials) make it a standout spot. It was so fun to come full circle and visit the Santa Monica location, and I can't wait to return for another epic sandwich experience--and maybe another round of that lemonade! read more

I walked into Bread Head not knowing what to expect, and I was pleasantly surprised. It's a small but well-designed space--high ceilings, great lighting, and a welcoming vibe. The walls are decorated with Louisiana-inspired scenes, and the bathroom? Pure Jimmy Buffett vibes with island and Southern influences. They even have Louisiana hot sauce on hand, which adds a nice touch. The customer service was fantastic. The guy behind the counter was super friendly and helpful. Since it was my first time, I asked for a recommendation and mentioned I couldn't eat cheese. He assured me they could adjust anything and suggested the roast beef sandwich--great call. The roast beef was high quality, thick but tender, making for the perfect bite. But the bread? Absolute magic. It looked like focaccia, but the texture was unreal--crispy on the outside, soft inside, and packed with flavor. I don't know what they do to it, but it's next-level delicious. The garlic aioli with horseradish added just the right kick, and the arugula brought a fresh, peppery balance. Even though the place was busy, the line moved fast, and I had my sandwich within five minutes. Bread Head is a hidden gem--great atmosphere, friendly staff, and some of the best sandwiches I've had in a while. My only regret? Not coming here sooner--I live right off Montana! Breadhead in Santa Monica has quickly become one of my favorite little spots to stop by. The vibe is super chill, clean, and calming without feeling too "overly wellness-y." It's the kind of place that makes you want to take a deep breath the second you walk through the door. I have to give a special shoutout to Sadie at the front. She's seriously the sweetest--welcoming, friendly, and just has this warm energy that makes the whole experience better. She didn't just ring me up and send me on my way--she actually took the time to chat, answer questions, and made me feel like I was more than just another customer. And she brought the sandwich out to me!! Stuff like that goes a long way for me. Good products and a nice space are important, but when you're greeted by someone like Sadie, it makes you want to keep coming back. If you're in Santa Monica and need a reset, definitely check this place out! It doesn't hurt that the chefs in the kitchen are world class!!! Try the muffelelata!!! read more

Came here after hearing it's the spot for a good sandwich, and it definitely delivered. Parking was a bit of a challenge--we ended up parking a few blocks away and walking over--but it was worth it. Service was friendly and quick, which made the whole experience even better. We decided to share the turkey pesto sandwich, and it did not disappoint. The bread was perfectly done--soft and fluffy on the inside with just the right amount of crunch on the outside. The pesto added a fresh, herby richness that tied everything together really well. We paired it with the Dirty salt and vinegar chips, which had that bold, tangy crunch that hits just right, and washed it all down with a cream soda for a nice, nostalgic touch.
