Stopped in randomly today at 5pm before a dinner date at forma down the street. Didn't know any of the back story behind the place being insta famous however stopped in as I'm a deli/sandwich aficionado on both the west coast (California) and Northeast (Boston). I have top 10 lists of best sandwiches and delis that friends and acquaintances usually ask for me weekly. Anyways I saw deli and bread and was ok I need to try this place. It was quiet I was the only customer in at 5pm. Friendly service everyone working said hi. I ordered the Calabrian Turkey as if you can't get a turkey sandwich right I'm not sure you should be selling sandwiches. Anyways my sandwich was ready in like 5 minutes. I eat it on the sidewalk on a bench. First let's talk about portions. I got the half sandwich and I'm a large guy (200lb) and if the half sandwich is what I had then I'm not sure who or what could eat a full size but it's definitely not a single 200lb man. I was most looking forward to the bread as it's in their name unfortunately it was hard and a bit stale. It was like pizza crust which is ok but gets chewy after a while. The turkey was solid and seemed to be nicely sliced fresh turkey meat. The dressing seemed like a simple thousand island dressing. The sandwiches had triple amount of lettuce compared to anything else on it which drowned the other flavors a bit Finally the cheddar cheese was ok but I could have used more as the lettuce drowned it out. Otherwise the sandwich was maybe a 3/5. Nothing amazing, it was ok. Did it make me want to go back? No. Anyways I appreciate another sandwich shop being open and admit maybe the bread was stale because i came at 5pm though if you're open till 7p I expect the bread to be made every 2 hours or so. My friend mentioned this place to me last week, so I took a peek at the menu online and I've been thinking about this place since! I'm so glad I finally made it today. It's located in Santa Monica, cute little small sandwich shop but very crowded! It's open seating but limited, so grab a seat as soon as you see one available! Parking is terrible (street/meter). I did not see a private lot. Now to the food, delicious!!!! I ordered the daily special which was the Reuben (pastrami and sauerkraut) and I asked for a side of garlic mayo. Chefs kiss! My friend really enjoyed his sandwich as well (combo grinder). The half size portion is enough but the whole size is a lot! So if you want left overs or want to share, definitely order the whole size. The staff were so friendly and attentive. Constantly cleaning tables and asking if you need anything. I got the mozzarella sandwich (half size) which was $14 I believe. I thought it was good, nice spread and the mozzarella was good, but I think it was a bit pricey especially for a sandwich without meat. My partner got the muffuletta sandwich which was pretty heavy on olives. Overall, good tasting but I think there's sandwiches for similar prices that taste better and have bigger portions. read more

Half sized sandwich is decently sized for one serving. Loved the freshness of the mozzarella and tanginess of the pickled onions paired with the hot sauce. As someone with average spice tolerance, the hot sauce is a must to pair - especially with the mozzarella sandwich! It's more sweet than spicy, and more of a "kick" than hot. Friendly neighborhood and service. The space tends to get crowded since there's not much space and most are waiting to pick up their order. Extremely mid. I mean lets be honest. The "half sandwich" is a full sandwhich. Maybe I came on an off day but the bread wasnt it. It was hard to bite and didnt give me a crispy light airy focaccia bread vibe that I'm used to. It hurt my mouth. There are a lot of sandwiches out there. I'd say its good to try once, but theres nothing special about it . At least they have a tiny parking lot behind the store which is nice. Staff is nice and welcoming too. But if im going to spend money on something fancier than a subway sandwich, I'd rather got to All antico vinaio. I believe it did not live up to the expectation. The Pesto Turkey, while I do not like pesto I liked all the other items on the sandwich, so I requested no pesto and asked for mustard instead. I was charged for the mustard. I have never encountered a sandwich where I leave off one item and then get charged for mustard. Also there was only one slice of turkey. I guess my expectations are high, as one slice of turkey does not make a sandwich in my opinion. I do not recommend this sandwich place. read more

I have been a fairly regular customer at Bread Head over the past few months and usually enjoy their sandwiches, but unfortunately my experience today was very disappointing. I ordered a tuna and a turkey sandwich on August 30, 2025. Within just 10 minutes of picking them up, the sandwiches had become extremely soggy and were nearly inedible. On top of that, they were overwhelmingly salty to the point where it seemed like a mistake had been made in their preparation. Considering the price point, over $50 for two sandwiches, I expect a much higher level of quality control. Normally, Bread Head has been one of my favorite options in the Santa Monica and Brentwood area, but today's sandwiches felt rushed and poorly made, almost as if the person preparing them was inexperienced or careless. This is not the level of consistency one should expect from a place charging nearly $30 per sandwich. It is very unfortunate because I've genuinely enjoyed Bread Head in the past, but after today this may have been my last visit. I hope management reviews this feedback seriously and ensures better oversight of preparation moving forward. I would be happy to speak with management directly about this experience, as I think it's important for longtime customers to voice concerns when standards are not being met. read more

Been coming nearly every weekend since it opened. This line may seem intimidating but it moves quick and the inside feels like a friendly local spot. Shared tables that turn over pretty quick. Haven't had a sandwich I didn't like and all of the workers have been super friendly. Highly recommend the turkey pesto! The tuna is also super delicious with a very yummy cheddar. So happy this came to Montana. Don't skip out on the dessert either - the chocolate cookies are super fudgy. Also recommend grabbing some Zabs to add to the sandwich! read more

This was our first time to Bread Head. We have been so excited because there just aren't very many options for great deli type sandwiches in the area, and I LOVE a good sammy. I dare say, I might even be a sandwich connoisseur. I have to say, the bread was LEGIT. The hype is real. It's the best texture. It has the best chew. It holds up well with all the filling. If you're going to have a sandwich and eat bread, this is the one to have. We got the Tuna sandwich and the Calabrian Turkey. My review of the sandwich is that there isn't a lot of protein to the bread ratio. The price felt a little high for the amount of meat on the sandwich. Also, the tuna had a lot of onions. If you like onions, it's a hit. If you like less of that onion flavor, I would get something else. The full size was too big for one meal. You could definitely do a half, and maybe get extra meat, if that's your style. Our bill came to $50 for two sandwiches, and it was probably something we could have split. The staff was super friendly, and very welcoming. I was really impressed. They seemed very grateful and that was cool. The inside is small, and it gets busy. This is definitely more of a grab and take to the beach or park kind of situation for me. All in all, I am a fan. We will definitely be back in. read more

Bread Head's food is solid, but the service and organization were extremely disappointing. We ordered in person and waited over an hour for sandwiches, only to see a steady stream of online orders being completed ahead of ours -- even some that appeared to be placed after we ordered. There didn't seem to be any system for managing in-store guests versus online tickets, and no one communicated about delays. A better approach would be allocating staff specifically to walk-in customers so they aren't left watching online orders jump the line. Good sandwiches can't make up for poor service and inefficient operations. At this price point, the experience should match the quality of the food -- and it simply didn't. read more

I heard this place was good just from reading some online reviews for good sandwich soots in LA but then I disolver were considered one of the best in LA. I had to try it. I ordered their turkey and cheddar and my mom ordered the vegetarian mozzarella sandwich. My sandwich was good. I could tell the bread was fresh baked and had a bunch of flavor. The vegetarian was the star for me. The fresh mozzarella paired with all the fresh veggies were amazing. I understand why The NY Times did an article on it. A friend brought me to Bread Head. I thought it was great! I had the muffaletta (and then a few days later I tried the Italian grinder--that's not the exact name). Both were really delicious. I also got to try my friend's chicken salad sandwich and another friend's ham and butter. All were made with truly the highest quality of ingredients. It definitely made a difference. The meat and cheeses were super flavorful and the lettuce and tomato were really top quality. Most unique was the bread. A kind of crunchy foccaccia, I thought it worked really well and contributed a nice uniqueness to the sandwich. I didn't get to try it yet but the cookies look great. Also, the Zab's hot sauce they have on hand is REALLY good. I will say, I didn'r really need it on my sandwich, but it is really good. read more

Walked in to this small shop off Montana - very small with little seating, I would plan to take your sandwich to go. It was a Sunday afternoon, but it was pretty crowded. This place is the best sandwich spot on the westside. The bread is obviously the focal point of the uniqueness of the sandwich. They stack a ton of meat in the sandwiches and have a solid portion of veggies and spread on them. I always get the turkey pesto. That's my absolute go to. Turkey is excellent quality. Pesto with avocado complements the delicious bread. I add some raw red onions with the lettuce. Not overly complicated of a sandwich but oh so delightful in every bite. I order online and they always have it ready super promptly. The inside has a cool vibe. It's not a huge spot but is ALWAYS packed and has a line (that's why I pick up online). I've tried basically every sandwich shop on the westside and I can confidently say this the hand down the best spot (and no disrespect to bay cities). I ordered the half Muffaletta, What is with people, do they not shop and realize how much things cost lol. I do not think the price of $14.00 was alot for the quality of meats and cheese on the sandwhich. SUBAWAY is crappy and they are over 10.00 for a sandwich. The swiss cheese on this sandwhich was delicious and my favorite part. The meats were good, the bread I really wanted to like the bread, but it was extra oily to me along with the olive salad. I love bread head. Well, I love bread in general, but this bread is superior. It's fresh, soft, and super flavorful with the fixings. The interior is a bit small with communal tables, so be ready to be cozy with strangers if you're dining in! Free street parking in the neighborhoods, or if you're lucky you can find metered on Montana. The turkey sandwich is my go to. The half sandwich is ginormous, and I usually have enough for a leftover/snack. I suggest ordering ahead for pick up to avoid the lines during rush hour, but it does move quickly. Wandered into this place around 12:30 on a Sunday. There was a line going out the door once we got in line. My husband tried the combo grinder and I tried the BLT. We both got the half size which was around $14.00. Seems kinda expensive, but still a good choice - definitely filling and can't imagine how big the full one must be! The star of the show is obviously the bread, which is a focaccia bread with a nice crunch to it. I think MAYBE they sprinkle some Parmesan cheese on the bottom of the pain when they bake it to get a very nice crunchy layer? Their house made Arnold Palmer was very good and refreshing as well. Bread Head, from chefs of Trois Mec, brings delicious sandwiches made with lightly glazed focaccia to Montana Ave. Expect a decent line of maybe 10-15 min - if you come at opening, the line will be out the door but if you come ~20 min after, the line will at least start inside the restaurant (or you can order online!). The Combo Grinder was great - good amount of meat balanced with LT. Ate well flavorwise. Can be a be tricky to eat at times as the bread may slide but not too hard to fix. Would recommend using their Zab's St. Augustine to add a little more spicy sweetness. At $14 for a half and $25 for a whole, you do get a good amount of food that is quite filling. Would recommend splitting a whole for a better value for sure. Some indoor seating with chill vibes. read more

I wanted to like this place - it's conveniently located on Montana, and is just a cute spot. But I've tried it twice and both times were meh.... I'll start with the good. The bread they use for sandwiches is amazing. But they lost me on the actual sandwiches. The first time I went I tried one of the Italian sandwiches (I don't remember which one). It was incredibly bland. The second time I tried the roast beef. It was not good either. This time they put way too much mayonnaise and it just made the sandwich kind of gross. If you're one that likes to call in your order on "the go" this is not the place for you. If you want to try their picnic nacho cheese before purchasing - not allowed! They charge to swap out any cheese on the sandwiches ($1.25 for small $2.50 for large!) They charge to add toppings as well. I ordered the Turkey Pesto. The sandwich was good. But it was also $32.11 with no tip or drink. I will say It was giant and like 2 sandwiches in one. I ate half and that kept me full for lunch & dinner. To be nit-picky, the avocado was only in the very center of the sandwich, so only a few bites included it. Overall, I enjoyed it. It was good.
