This place isn't technically fully open as they won't be having their grand opening for 2-3 more weeks, but I stopped by today and was very pleased with the service and my food. I'll keep this review brief and save a more comprehensive review for when they've fully opened. But the space was nice and inviting and the live edge table in the middle of the restaurant was beautiful and had numerous plexiglass dividers as a COVID-19 precaution for when in person dining is allowed again. Food wasn't cheap nor was it expensive for the area...I thought it was priced fairly and was a decent portion for a downtown lunch. I got the Strami sandwich and upgraded to a Dutch crunch roll and it was fantastic. It had pastrami, havarti cheese, caramelized onion, pickled shallot, purple cabbage, and thousand island. The ingredients were perfectly balanced...all of the flavors melded and complimented each other perfectly. None of the ingredients really stood out in their own individually to me but together I loved that the pickled shallot and slaw balanced out the richness from the dressing and the pastrami. I loved the variations of texture and mouthfeel from this sandwich as well. Interior wasn't completely finished and that was fine. Customer service was very good. Will review again in after the grand opening. read more

Just ok. We used to go to Beaverton Sub Station for years before they closed and we've been on the hunt ever since for a great sandwich place. Gave this one a try based on all the strong reviews and bread was a little crunchy/hard which may just be the style but came off a little stale to us. Sandwich overall was fine just not great or something I'd make a special trip for. read more

Based upon reviews, ordered five sandwiches to go. Portion sizes are generous for the price but we found the sandwiches to be fairly average. Enjoyed the BYO option, but the bahn fell fairly flat in terms of flavor. read more

I have tried literally every sandwich on their regular menu. Chubby puffy, bahn mi, and the VLT are definite standouts. Recommend the Dutch Crunch bread. Order ahead and pick up to avoid the lines. The Pearl District location is now closed. read more

On an afternoon stroll we walked past this place and decided to try somewhere new --- and Break Bread definitely exceeded expectations! We ordered a take-away sandwich with Bacon jam... and now it is one of the most memorable sandwiches I've ever experienced. The ambiance was adorably decorated with wall art, the service was prompt, the price was reasonable for the deliciousness we had. Talk about underrated hidden gems. I am glad my initial lunch spot was closed so I stumbled upon this. Open for lunch hours only, Break Bread is an elite lunch experience. They have 5 different breads to put your sandwich on and they all looked very fresh (I went with Dutch Crunch). I tried the special sandwich which was called See Ya, Space Cowboy. This had pastrami, grilled onion, jack cheese, roasted mushrooms, tomato, herb aioli and horseradish sauce. The blend of the aioli and horseradish sauce was a beautiful melody in my mouth becoming more delicious with each bite. I also enjoyed the all decor in Break Bread as its very simple. Big fan of my lunch at Break Bread. Can take your sandwich over by the waterfront and enjoy a hopefully not rainy day in Portland! read more

Do order the "don't pastrami me along" sandwich. It's a delicious mash up of flavors in this pastrami sandwich- using artichoke accents instead of what typically happens to these sandwiches at most restaurants (too much 1,000 island dressing.) Great French bread. Clean environment. read more

I worked downtown for several years and the one thing missing was a decent sandwich shop. Now with a new Breaking Bread location I can finally say I've found the perfect one! The store was nicely sanitized and had such a fresh look with a fully stocked beverage area in front. The line was moving swiftly but I was torn by which sandwich to get. One thing jumped out at me was the pepper bacon jam so I went with the Chubby Puggy on gluten free bun. As all sandwiches were half off on their opening week, I knew I could come back for more. This sandwich was SO good! The sweet of the jam definitely blew me away. I also appreciate that their bun choices aren't just white/wheat but so many others, including the Dutch Crunch which I'll have the check out next time. Definitely a superb sandwich shop! It's busy, so definitely order ahead. It's the fresh bread and ingredients that make it above par. There are places to sit indoors and out, but I recommend taking it to the waterfront to eat. They do offer a gluten free baguette. It was a bit sweet for my palate, but I am grateful for the choice. read more

Came here for lunch today, the place was mostly empty. We spent $94 on 5 sandwiches and 3 bags of chips which was a steep price. We let the workers know we would be sitting right outside at the provided tables. They couldn't be bothered to let us know when our sandwiches were done and they were just left sitting on the counter top as we continued to wait. Food just okay, service not so much. Won't be returning. read more

This was close to my hotel, so I walked there after checking out the menu and some reviews. I enjoyed my sandwich very much- I got "better than chipotle" and especially enjoyed the cilantro. I was visiting my buddy and he was raving about this new sandwich spot that was opening up near his house. We ordered two sandwiches and pick up was easy, in and out in under 5 minutes. Tons of options and all really fresh ingredients. They definitely didn't skimp on the meat and I was full after half a sandwich (who doesn't like leftovers?). The inside was pretty funky/colorful and SUPER clean. When I'm back hopefully they'll be able to have people indoors, the space was really cool. read more

I work in the building adjacent to this location and tried it for the first time today. Really excellent sandwich - the bread was a standout and the flavor combinations of the turkey sandwich I had was awesome. Really a next level Lunch offering in this part of downtown. Must be hard for a sandwich shop to get started up during COVID, downtown, with only 10% of the foot traffic. But they are holding their own and I hope they stick around because I am going to be at this place multiple time's a week! No doubt others will find it as well. Definitely a place worth trying. read more

this place is honestly the best.. i have picked up lunch from here four times in the last week and a half since finding out they opened this location downtown. the sandwich options are creative and SO good. the bread is a highlight in itself, and i even opt for the whole wheat(but you should def get the dutch crunch, it's the best) my favorites so far are 'the italian one' and i can't remember the name of the other but it has shredded chicken with a carolina bbq sauce, cucumbers, lettuce, tomato and a special sauce but honestly you can't go wrong with any of them here. they also have a location in the pearl so whether you're downtown or over that way, you should most definitely stop into Bread Bread and try them out. read more

Delicious sandwich spot in Portland! I got the Jimmy pesto which was delicious and HUGE. I was only able to eat half and had to save the other half for later. You could just order a half a sandwich though, for $3-$4!!! So reasonable it's amazing. I can't wait to go back and try the CAR. read more

Just went there for the first time and i work in the building above. Had the Italian. AMAZING quality and service. Sandwich was prepared in less than 3 minutes, bread was "Parisian" quality fresh, ingredients great, right amount of toppings, was absolutely not expecting it to be this good. I am a very snobby foody in Portland and this was likely the best sandwich i have seen in the city. Way better than Bunk, Charlie's Deli, even Ken's Artisan. read more

One of the best sandwiches in PDX. Ordered from them because they have bacon jam, which I had never had before. It complimented the sandwich incredibly and the cookie was a wonderful dessert. The bread itself held the sandwich together while remaining soft on the inside with that perfect combo of chewy yet crunchy French bread crust that did never became soggy. 10/10 will continue to recommend and be returning soon! ~ it should also be noted the owner went above and beyond when DoorDash was not responding and delivered my sandwich themselves. Had the "Someone on the Blazers" - insanely delicious! The bread has a nice crunch to it (I got sourdough) the Dame sauce and bacon jam... no words. The Fresh Prince is probably the best sandwich I have ever had (I'm vegetarian, for the record). Unique, great flavors, perfect amount of crunchy, right amount of heat, moist but not too sloppy. And the crispy jalapeños were super crispy. I don't live in Portland but will be dreaming of this sandwich until I can return to savor it again. read more

I liked it a lot, although I generally appreciate a bit more lemon taste in hollandaise sauce, but this hollandaise was so creamy, smooth and flavorful, I'm not mad. The breakfast potatoes served with this are very tasty - delightfully seasoned and perfectly cooked - crispy outside and fluffy inside. The coffee was very good. Perhaps because of this, my order of Sawmill breakfast was very poorly prepared. The gravy was luke warm at best. The eggs had the texture of frozen powdered egg that was just thawed. The biscuit was like a brick and hard to eat. I also saw numerous other patrons who were leaving their scrambled eggs untouched. The chicken tenders were warm and delicious, and the quiche was decent. Salad was probably the highlight. Besides that, I think the vibes inside the restaurant were very beautiful and memorable. Just unfortunate that the food was very sub par. I probably wouldn't recommend if you were trying to impress someone important.

The space is cozy and inviting, with an open kitchen right in the center as you walk up the slight incline from the entrance. There's a charming little café area to the right and restaurant seating to the left. The large windows overlooking the city from this beautiful old building create the perfect atmosphere, especially on a cold, rainy day. We were greeted with fresh, hot beignets to start, which was such a treat. My husband enjoyed the Mexican Mocha, and I had the London Fog, both were perfect for warming up on a chilly morning. We couldn't decide what to order, so we split the Huevos Rancheros, and wow... it was AUHMAZING too! It was loaded with zucchini, broccoli, potatoes, carrots, spinach, and caramelized onions. We added linguiça sausage, which took it over the top. Every bite was delicious. To make the experience even better, Georgia brought us a sample of the Portuguese Fried Rice, which was incredibly thoughtful and gave us another reason to come back and try more of the menu. By the end of our meal, our bellies were full, we were warm and cozy from our drinks, and we were already talking about our next visit. So glad we found this gem thanks to Yelp.
