Hard to believe that my last review was 7 years ago, but Breakfast Republic is a North Park staple for breakkie. Pancakes, waffles, Shrimp & Grits, and my personal fav: Breakfast Mac-n-Cheese. You do need to get here early on weekends or you are going to stand in line for a bit. Love their coffee - comes out in these big bucket cups so you remain well-caffeinated. Staff is awesome - I didn't have to ask for a refill - they are that attentive. This is the OG of Breakfast Republic - it has nice outdoor & indoor seating. read more

This restaurant is screaming and desperately asking for a deep cleaning!!!! There's mold by the sink where they serve the water!!! Tables are sticky, , flies galore, food has an ok flavor, pancakes are a bit on the dry side. Not sure what went wrong here, it used to be a a bohemian and chill place, but sadly that's not the case. I don't enjoy the ketchup decor on the ceiling, dirty walls. Completely lost my appetite but since my family ordered I just didn't want to be that Karen walking out in disgust. I don't think it's necessarily the employees fault--it's more of a management (or lack there of) problem. I think the flies near my food would've been a nice add if I was eating street food or road kill, but honestly, I don't see the difference between here and outside. read more

I visited the Breakfast Republic with some of my friends for brunch this Sunday around 12 pm, it's a very cute spot for brunch but the place gets really busy. Their brunch menu was versatile and had great options catering to diverse palates. I got the guava mimosa which was a burst of tropical goodness and the speciality latte my friend got was honestly a coffee lovers dream. 10/10 for the drinks I had here. I ordered the breakfast burger and I was very satisfied and happy with what I had. The patty was perfectly cooked and the combination of savoury bacon and avocado created a great flavour profile. My friends were satisfied with their meals as well except one friend who ordered the mac and cheese and didn't like it very much. The only downside was that the pace of service was regrettably slow. Besides that I had a great time here, the breakfast burger and the mimosa made this brunch experience noteworthy. read more

This hits the spot and super spacious with a so many breakfast options. Chocolate Oreo Pancakes- who says cookies can't be for breakfast? Ordered as a side which came as 2 chocloate cakes so that it mimic an oreo cookie as the soft and fluffy cakes sandwich a light cream filling and topped with oreo crumbs. The maple syrup helped balance the chocolate goodness but its definitely a shareable plate. San Diego Benedict- eggs poached well, and the fresh avocado helped cut through the silky hollandaise. The turkey was ok but the addition of the Asiago Chicken fennel sausage was a plus. Great service and nice atmosphere but the paid parking was a little steep so recommend finding street parking if available. read more

I live right nearby and have tried this place a few times and I finally just have to throw in the towel and say it's flat out not worth it First time was a breakfast burrito that id probably rate 3.5 considering yhe high price, but it made me sick to my stomach the whole rest of the day. This most recent time I got the strawberry cheesecake pancakes. They were super dry, cant even cut with fork/knife without them crumbling apart. Bottoms of them overdone with a slight burnt taste. Just grocery store pancake syrup and I got so little it didnt help the dryness. Cheesecake filling is just slightly sweet cream cheese. So in all dry and not sweet. I cruuush pancakes and baked goods in general and I ate a third of these and tossed the rest. Thats very telling. That said service has always been super friendly and warm everytime ive been so kudos to front staff. Just wish food was worth it . read more

Donna our waitress was pleasant and always checking on our table to make sure we were doing okay. Our food was delicious, warm and promptly served. We had two birthday celebrants at our table, and Donna made sure they felt special for their Birthday month. She provided complimentary cake desserts for each celebrant along with candles to make a wish. Better yet, she stayed at our table and sang the birthday song with us. Food was okay . I didn't care for the eggs Benedict I ordered . The green sauce on top didn't serve a purpose and the brown sugar bacon was good but I particularly didn't care for the combination. Although usually it is . Perhaps the flavors in the eggs Benedict didn't blend to well in this instance . The potatoes flavorless and dry . Super great brunch spot! It's pretty small inside so you may need to wait but trust me you should! We got the veggie breakfast tostado and it was pretty good. The breakfast jambalaya was super good and flavorful. I really enjoyed the flight of 3 pancakes. I selected the plain, strawberry cheesecake and the cinnamon roll. We enjoyed the coffee cake too. I use to love coming here more frequently but like most restaurants they're not the same. The steak and eggs is not good, I don't recommend, but I do recommend the fresh OJ. Parking is a pain in the ass, there's both inside and outside seating but again service is not quick. Expect a wait. I love coming here for grits, they're really good here, I always ask for the eggs on the side (they don't always listen)!! read more

Stopped by on a Thursday morning and was able to get a seat right away which was a relief because we'd passed by the Gaslamp location a few times earlier in the week and there was always a line out the door. The decor was cute and the food was good. I split a pancake flight and the chilequiles with my partner. Our favorite part of breakfast was the drinks though, I had the Big Boozy Shot and I might have ordered a second depending on the day! read more

We came in on Saturday morning party of 12 ,and let me tell you they couldnt have accomdated us better! Sophie our gracious host was on it thinking of a way and not once made us feel it wasnt possible. She provided us this beautiful private room that had plenty of space and perfect for our group to talk comfortably, and even helped us with using the internet to listen to our worship music!!. Then our server Alex was so attentive, helpful and polite that we couldnt of asked for a better server! Im sp happy we chose here for breakfast when there are so many in that area. Very first time dining here based off the reviews we decided to give it a try. Upon arrival there was a wait so we decided to sit at the outside "bar" style table. It took some time for anyone to acknowledge us so we asked someone when they could send someone over to attend to us. We ordered several different food items including shrimp & grits, chicken sausage, potatoes, just to name a few. The food was overall good but the service for sure needs tweaking. read more

I ordered the Vegan Harvest Omelet for takeout. The online menu said it came with a choice of bread, so I selected sourdough. I also added a side of breakfast potatoes for $6. When I got home, the bread was missing (though they included jam), and I realized the omelet already came with potatoes. The menu/ordering app doesn't say that, which is misleading. I wouldn't have ordered the extra side. They did agree to comp the potatoes when I called, but I still never got the bread. The food itself was also very disappointing. The potatoes were dry as hell, stale, and flavorless, some undercooked, others overcooked, clearly reheated multiple times. The omelet itself was okay, but the vegetables inside were literally raw and crunchy (except for the spinach). Without the bread, the meal felt incomplete. If I hadn't already walked home, I would have returned the entire order. For over $30, it was barely edible and missing items. Sadly, this isn't my first bad experience here. I gave it another try after a long time away, and it was the same. Other Breakfast Republic locations in San Diego don't have these issues from my experience, but I can't recommend this one and definitely won't be back ever. read more

Parking was hard to find and you'll probably have to end up paying for it. Food was alright, I think they are more known for their sweeter food items and drinks which we ended up not getting. This is one of our favorite breakfast spots. Great selection of breakfast treats and drinks. Speciality coffees and drinks with unusual flavors combos make it interesting. We loved our entire experience here at BR! We had a large bachelorette party of 20 girls so we had some trouble finding a chill brunch spot that would accommodate us. From making the reservation to the actual brunch and service, everything was superb. We coordinated with Leah on the reservation and details and she was incredibly accommodating with our large group. Drew was our server and he made sure we had absolutely everything that we needed. The mimosas, brunch entrees, and the french toast sampler were all super delicious! Parking in the area is tough. So be sure to drive around. Also no reservations so drop someone off to sign in. Got the shrimp jumbo. Delicious! Lots of shrimp and sausage. BR is a staple in breakfast and brunch and is that clucking good! The OG, original BR in North park has a back room newly renovated and now open for private parties and that private breakfast vibe. The steak-n-eggs with potato-tot-cake style hash browns was chef's kiss good! The beef was great quality with a chimichurri style adornment, the potato, savory and home-style yum! The eggs, served in a mini-pan, were delish! My yogurt was rich. Greek yogurt with pan-seared banana, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries, garnished with oats, was so satisfying. A great spot with a cozy, vibrant, kitchy-in-a-good-way style, with a last-supper-style chicken mural brings charm and barnyard-chique style to the eatery. The long wooden dark-stained table and simple, stylish hanging light fixtures bring to mind rustic-royalty and I dig it! A fun and tasty location :) read more

Service is super slow, and there was an over 30-minute wait. I was keen on switching venues, but we endured the wait. We ordered the flight of three with churro, oreo, and pineapple upside down. We also ordered the American breakfast. Of the three, the churro and pineapple upside down were my favorites. They do not have conventional ketchup but rather their own, which is spicy. My partner in crime liked their buttermilk pancakes better than Flap Your Jacks. The bathrooms. were a bit messy. read more

We drive an HOUR to this freaking place to get turned away at the door because it's technically "a bar" even though they have a full dinner menu. When I point out none of this is advertised anywhere, I'm informed it's on Open Table, and that we should've seen it there, and were dismissed. They said they could give us another restaurant recommendation and then proceeded to just dismiss us without even that courtesy. We go back to verify this age limit, and it's there... one TINY line 2 scrolls down on the page, WAY beyond any of the information needed to just book a table, which is the only thing Open Table is used for. Complete waste of time for a poorly advertised bar with zero helpful staff on a dumpy street by the airport.

If I could give no stars I would…read more... I celebrated my 45th birthday on Friday, July 17, and I had been looking forward to visiting Born & Raised for the very first time. I don't frequent San Diego, so this was a special occasion for me. I was excited that they were able to accommodate my 8:30 p.m. reservation. In fact, it meant so much to me that I even canceled our sunset cruise so we could enjoy dinner there. We arrived on time and were immediately impressed by the beautiful ambiance. I asked one of the hostesses if it would be possible to be seated on the rooftop because of the beautiful lights everyone raves about. She told me there was a waitlist but promised she would continue checking since it was my birthday. Unfortunately, that's where the experience began to decline. Our waitress greeted us initially, but as the evening went on, we noticed we were receiving very little attention. She only had three tables, all within our view, yet she consistently attended to the other two parties while we were largely ignored. After we finished eating, we sat for over 30 minutes without anyone checking on us or acknowledging that we were ready for our check. To make matters worse, a photographer came through our section taking photos of every table except ours. While that may have been unintentional, combined with everything else that happened, it added to the feeling that we simply didn't matter. Eventually, we asked a concierge to locate our waitress so we could get our check. Fifteen minutes passed, and still no one came. I finally got up myself and walked to the hostess stand to ask for assistance. Only then did a manager come over. I explained how disappointed I was with the service. She apologized and offered complimentary desserts and cocktails, but at that point I had no desire to extend my stay. The issue was never about free food or drinks, it was about how unwelcome we had been made to feel. As a Black woman, that feeling is heartbreaking because you never want to wonder whether you're being treated differently. I can't say with certainty what motivated the treatment we received, but the consistent lack of attention, being overlooked while others around us were served, and how invisible we felt left me questioning whether we truly belonged there. The manager ultimately comped our entire meal, and while I appreciated her taking responsibility financially, no amount of money could erase what should have been a joyful birthday memory. The waitress never returned to our table after the manager became involved. As we left, several staff members stood at the host stand watching us. The manager had promised to bring me her business card but never did. Instead, she simply watched us walk out. I had anticipated an unforgettable birthday dinner for all the right reasons. Instead, it became unforgettable for all the wrong ones. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Born & Raised. Every guest should feel welcomed, valued, and treated with the same level of care and respect. Unfortunately, that was not the experience I had on what was supposed to be a very special night.
