It's solidly 3 stars, maybe 3.5 stars. For one, the Yelp system and Google reservations let you reserve starting at 8:30am and sends you a confirmation for 8:30am but the restaurant doesn't open until 9am! After waiting for 30 minutes for them to open, I hoped that the food would have been worth the wait. However, my item was very greasy. Ordered the Pho Sizzle, which is described as chicken, eggs your way, mushrooms, tomatoes, which sounds very healthy but it is one greasy concoction. Soaked in oil/butter, the eggs came completely cooked even though I ordered medium (they should have considered the hot griddle that keeps cooking it until it gets to the table), and there were puny barely there mushrooms. The tomatoes are not roma or slices of regular beef tomatoes, but tiny cherry tomatoes that will burst all over you especially when it is piping hot. They also said the food comes out as it's ready, so my friend had to wait another 10 minutes for her beef Pho soup to come out. The restaurant reeked of bleach when we entered and just wasn't a appealing fragrance when you are just ready to eat breakfast. However, I did enjoy the cafe su da (iced vietnamese coffee), the ambience and central location, so they get 3 stars for being okay, but they can definitely do better given the price points they charge. read more

Great decor with a dj and an attentive staff. We came for a birthday and felt the atmosphere and Instagram worthy food made the celebration special. Favorite item: pho poutine. The fries and the mix of slow cooked beef and cheese curds was delicious and unique. Most recommended: the RBF (resting brunch face) was highly recommended and I agree the chicken was good and tender with a fun addition of panda green waffle underneath. On the other hand, I think I'm not a big chicken and waffle fan, so I don't know that I would need to get this dish again. Most surprising: I was most excited for the banh xeo taco, and the traditional Vietnamese savory crepes is one of my favorites. Unfortunately I felt the flavors fell a bit short and the sauce dripped out as I was trying to eat it and made a bit of a mess (especially since the plates are tiny). This is our newest favorite breakfast/brunch spot! Breaking Dawn Brunch is Vietnamese-American fusion breakfast located in downtown Los Gatos. The aesthetic of this restaurant is giving bougie modern with all the black and gold decor. We've ordered different items every time and we liked them all! We've had their ube pancakes, big hass omelette, fo sizzle with beef, op-la, and the crispy pork belly fried rice. I will admit that it is pricey but that's how everything is nowadays in most restaurants. The service is excellent here. They give really great suggestions and explanations of what the dishes are. They're attentive and friendly. I'll definitely try the Pandan waffles and chicken next time. We initially didn't really give this a second thought when reviewing the menu, but we saw a picture and were sold. It is a web of thin noodles that make the eggroll skin, so it's different than what you usually expect. I came back towards the end of our meal for another one, and it was still crispy! Highly recommend! 4. Resting Brunch Face (RBF), it's three pieces of boneless crispy fried chicken, on top of a green pandan waffle, with a side of cafe sua da syrup. 5. I ordered the Ube Pancakes, and they were ok. On the sweeter side. The coconut syrup didn't taste like coconut at all, it was more like straight condensed milk. I just added it to my coffee. Hubby ordered the crispy pork belly fried rice which comes with an egg, he added another 3 eggs as an additional side. The pork belly was over cooked, chewy, and dry. He finished the dish, only because of the 4 eggs. My friend ordered the RBF, fried chicken and pandan waffle. I thought the fried chicken was good, but the waffle was really bland. My friend ate some of my ube pancakes instead and left 3/4 of her pandan waffle untouched. The pandan waffle came with a syrup made with Vietnamese coffee (I think), I put that in my 2nd cup of coffee. Another friend ordered plain ol flapjacks and loved them. Go figure. Walking to/from the restroom was awkward. You have to pass through this really narrow little service/kitchen area that constantly had 2-4 employees waiting/picking up food. Felt like I was being disruptive everytime I walked through. There was a DJ (on a Sunday), kinda cool, kinda loud. I could see people turned off by this if you don't like the music. I didn't mind. The ube pancakes came with a coconut syrup. Delish. The chicken chorizo burrito was yummy and came with a salsa dipping sauce. This could be better with some orange sauce but this isn't quite la Victoria. I still give this place 5 stars because the burrito was everything I wanted and I can never get enough of sauces. The best service we observed came from the busboy, who was diligently clearing tables, and the DJ, who was keeping the atmosphere lively. When it was time to pay, the wait staff were completely absent, huddling in groups instead of taking care of customers. As we left we noticed a group of waiters all huddled together again at the side door of the restaurant as we walked to the car. I really wanted to like Breaking Dawn. The concept sounds fun, the vibe looks trendy, and it seemed like the perfect brunch spot to try in Los Gatos. But unfortunately, the food and experience didn't deliver. We ended up maybe over ordering since we were eye hungry but definitely recommend. Some of the other things that the people I came with enjoyed the Goi and the soufflé pancakes. This brunch spot is in the perfect location to walk around after brunch. The interior of the brunch spot is really nice and feels super upscale. There's a DJ that plays music on the weekends. It's the perfect spot to get dressed up and catch up with friends. We ordered the Pho Poutine, Loco Moco, and RBF. Pho Poutine (3/5): This is a nice twist compared to Poutine from Canada. I liked how they made it asian fusion. When our server brought it out to us, it smelled just like pho and had great garnishes on top. However, we've found this dish to be a little too salty and wished there was a little more meat on top. Loco Moco (3/5): This dish is good but there wasn't anything amazing to it. It didn't really stood out. RBF (3.5/5): This is the dish I was most excited out because it takes a Vietnamese approach on American chicken and waffles. The dipping sauce is so good! It's a nice addition to the dish and makes it taste so yummy. The chicken when it came out was dry and the waffles were soggy. I like the concept of it and it's a nice touch but the execution of the dish was lacking. For an upscale restaurant, I'd expect the customer service to be on par with other upscale restaurants, but it wasn't. It was little things that are minor but does make a difference if you're paying for an upscale price tag such as not refilling waters. We ordered three plates, a drink, and had 2 waters on our table and it was overcrowded. When we had leftovers, the server did not offer to pack it for us, but it would've been nice since there was no room on our table. The server also dropped the dipping sauce on our dish with food and only said sorry.... Overall, I think the idea is good but the execution is slightly lacking with the dishes and customer service. read more

I've been seeing rave reviews about Breaking Dawn Brunch for the past year and finally had the chance to try it for a girls' brunch. Ambiance-wise, the decor is cute, and the chairs are comfy, but they've packed in way too many tables. It felt like we were dining with the tables next to us rather than beside them. Also, the acoustics are terrible, at 10:30am the space was at 1/3 capacity and it was soooo loud. They have nothing to absorb noise and it wasn't the music or the DJ (we couldn't even tell what song was playing--just felt the bass). Service was a mixed bag--it felt rushed and inattentive. Water refills were frequent, but getting anyone's attention for anything else? Nearly impossible. It seemed like only one person was actually taking orders while the rest of the staff were just running food. Now, onto the food: The banh xeo tacos were gas--the nuoc cham sauce was perfect. Pro tip: break them at the fold and eat them tostada-style for a cleaner bite. For my main, I got the Fo Sizzle with beef (essentially Bò Né but done shaking beef-style). While flavorful, it was waaay too salty. My dining partner had the RBF--the fried chicken was well-marinated (flavor was reminiscent of chicken karaage), but also way too salty. We each took a bite and didn't go back for a second. However, the waffle with the café sữa đá syrup? Absolutely delicious. I wanted to love this place for the concept. Vietnamese infused brunch sounds like a fun idea. However it lacked in execution and service. My husband and I came on a Saturday and we ordered the recommended Banh Xeo tacos, pandan waffle and the loco moco. I will honestly share the highlight and that was the pandan waffle with the coffee infused condensed milk syrup. However the loco moco lacked in depth, flavor and amount of gravy. Suggestion: the gravy could use more of the Vietnamese anise / cinnamon pho flavoring, add in a bit of Thai basil/lemon grass over broken rice, that feels more distinctive. I grew up in Hawaii and know that Zippy's has a better loco moco. I also had high hopes for the Banh Xeo tacos however my skin was inedible because it was truly too thick and chewy. My husband said his was slightly better. I also think that it maybe too thick and over fried. The pork needed to be chopped up into smaller bite sized pieces not 2" hunks (think like a Mexican taco) for easier consumption. We gave this feedback to the waitress and I don't think she knew how to receive that except for "oh... I'll let the chef know" no apologies whatsoever. I think that the last 10% is always the hardest on execution. For the $$$ I expected more or else I would've gone to my local S. San Jose joint and gotten a better meal. read more
