Brent's Deli is an institution in the San Fernando Valley, and it may just be its best. One thing for sure, the portions are generally humongous so you will never leave hungry. Nothing succeeds like excess. In fact, most people will need a take out box for one less meal to cook. Delicatessen means delicate eating in German, but at a Jewish American Delicatessen, the emphasis is on the Eating, which I am not complaining. 1) I requested an off menu item of having a Reuben sandwich where half is Corned Beef and the other Pastrami. Brent's Reuben has warm Sauerkraut, grilled Rye bread, melted Swiss Cheese, 1,000 Island dressing. Thinly sliced, multi-layered Mound of Pastrami is a bit on the dry side. Curing doesn't create a deep meaty Umami and spicing is present but attenuated. The Corned Beef is moister with bit more Umami & plush, thin multi-layered red colored meat. I have to say the Pastrami at Langer's is cured more intensely to bring out a deep Umami as well as more complex and complementary spicing of especially warm spiced cloves that adds aromatic richness. Brent's Pastrami doesn't seem to reach that kind of apotheosis. 1b) I asked for the steak fries to be fried two minutes longer for a crisper finish which was honored. Not much in way of that distinctive potato earthiness, but acceptable. 1c) Coleslaw is mayonnaise based, watery, bland, but a good cruciferous, fibrous veggie to add more fibre, healthful phytochemicals to counter the meat overload even though it isn't flavourful 2) Carrot Cake is closer to a delicate, dense, moist spice cake. A slice is enormous since it is cut from an extra tall cake studded with crushed walnuts and a cream cheese like not too sweet frosting. At $14 it could feed 4 people. Service is fine. I have been going to Brent's for YEARS!! I used to work in the general neighborhood and went quite often, however, I'm no longer super close by, so we only go on occasion. I always enjoy it when we do. The restaurant is located in a shopping center with several other businesses. There is a large parking lot, and I've never had any issues finding a space. The restaurant has both sit down dining and take out. If you enjoy pastrami, you can't go wrong with any of the pastrami options. All of the soups are really great, and I'm especially partial to matzo ball and mish mosh. The service is always attentive and friendly. On our most recent visit at the end of May 2026, we only ordered take out. Maria was the person at the counter who took care of our order and she was top notch. Everything was perfect. read more

I hadn't been to Brent's in maybe 15 years, came on a Saturday afternoon on a whim. First time I came was probably around 1996! We waited about 10-15 mins outside. No shade , so watch out if it's a HOT day. We split the signature Pastrami sandwich . Very good, as good as I recall. My cousin got the tuna sandwich. . I didn't love it , but didn't stop me from finishing her half - haha. Nice service , positive experience. If this is what you are desiring - a Jewish deli - you'll enjoy for sure. Brent's was ALWAYS the best deli in L.A.... and they still are. I moved to Palm Beach, FL 13-years-ago and it's better than any in Palm Beach County. For brunch my cousins & I had lox, or both w/toasted bagels. It was delicious. And as excellent as the food was, the service was just as good. First time coming to Brent's in Northridge. I liked the ambience and service was excellent. Since it was Tuesday, they had a half sandwich Reuben on special. I ordered this special. I was delivered a plate of three slices of pickle while I waited. The special came with super salad. I opted for the barley soup. The soup was very tasty though the mushrooms that were in the soup were old. There were nice chunks of meat in the soup. The plate with a sandwich some french fries and coleslaw came out next. The sandwich had a lot of meat and a nicely bread. I liked the sandwich. The french fries were thick cut and obviously frozen fries. They were OK but could be better. The coleslaw was sour and I found a piece that looked moldy. See photo. I asked for a replacement and was brought the potato salad. One taste of the potato salad and I could taste that it had bell pepper which I do not eat so I didn't like the potato salad. I went out of my way to come here. I would not do so again. I would come back if I happen to be in the area. I'm a bit spoiled, having had the best of Jewish deli on the East Coast. The West Coast deli is just don't measure up. read more

My friends and I had a late lunch on Sunday, July 18.2026. My friends order a half pastrami with cabbage soup and three sliders with fries. I ordered the special. The "special" food poisoning. I ordered sweet and sour green peppers and mushroom barley soup, with an egg creme. ( no eggs ) I ate Hal of one pepper began sweating profusely. My nurse ran to get my walker. She helped me to the restroom. And I was EXTREMELY ILL. MY waiter was very concerned. He asked my friend what happened as did patrons close by. I felt that the meat was not yet not cooked completely. Went there again. It was great. I love the corn beef. One of my granddaughters had the pastrami and she loved it too. The coleslaw I was a little dry, but that's OK. Next time I'll tell them to add more liquid. The corn beef have just the right amount of fat. That's what makes it taste so good. The service was really good. They were busy but still got the stuff out fast. The place is interesting vibe to it is like an old Jewish deli. I would give it 5 stars if it wasn't so pricey. The food is good but I don't understand why does it have to be so expensive. I've had their hot pastrami sandwich, bagel chips and matzo ball soup. I like their pastrami sandwich because it's not so packed with the pastrami. It's a good size sandwich. The bagel chips are delicious. Such a good savory treat. However, the matzo ball soup is okay. It's been 27 years since the last time we were at Brent"s Delicatessen & Restaurant. I use to live in Northridge and Brent"s was one of my go to restaurants. The Bay Area is a deli desert so we were craving some pastrami and Matzzo Ball soup. I met up with an old college buddy and spent hours eating and catching up. Yup, I made it out to the SFV! What got me here is meeting up with some friends craving pastrami at Brent's Delicatessen. If you make it out here, trust me. Go with the Black Pastrami Ruben. Ask for thick hand cut pastrami. It comes with grilled rye bread, Swiss cheese, hot sauerkraut and Thousand Island dressing. Comes with fat fries and coleslaw. Fries serve piping hot and the cool refreshing coleslaw were a good contrast with the Ruben. Aside from that, the crew shared a few items. Potato Lakes are deep fried potato cakes served with sour cream and cherry apple sauce. The interesting dish that we had is the noddle kugel. It's a sweet casserole of thin egg noodles, sour cream, cottage cheese, cinnamon and spices. Interesting enough, it's baked with a cinnamon corn flake crust. I'm not a big fan of beef liver. Chicken liver I don't mind but beef is a different story. The version here is chopped liver with specs of egg, and mayo looking like a tuna salad served with rye bread, side of tomato and onions. Anyways, I sucked it up and tried it. Well, I didn't die and I guess it's good for me. That iron grittiness is hard to get over. I had a sampling of the matzo ball soup. Great broth, tasty matzo ball and shredded chicken make for good comfort food. Service here is great and this place is packed like a can of sardines. From the outside, it seems empty but it's full to capacity inside. The ample parking is great for any visit. Worth trying if you're in the mood for some good deli food. read more

Went with my mom here. Wasn't my choice. As others have said, this is really not a place for vegans. I asked about a few items and was shot down. Are the fried pickles vegan? Nope. How about the optional veggie patty on the burger? Nope. Went for the veggie wrap with no cheese and side of fruit. It was the safest bet. There is a Beyond patty available but decided against it. Service was very good and enjoyed the complimentary sliced pickles they bring to the table. If you wind up here as a vegan, just be prepared for slim pickings. Would love to see a JustEgg option with vegan cheese for at least an omelette offering. That would go along way. read more

I usually get food to go from here but last weekend I went in person for the first time. First off I never expected the place to be so busy on a Sunday. We were there around 1pm and had to wait 30min for a table. The restaurant is located in a shopping plaza and there is ample parking. The inside is a bit outdated but very reminiscent of a dinner. The menu is big with lots of options. I opted for half a sandwich and soup option. I ordered the chili and have to give it a 9/10. Comes with cheese and onions on the side. It was flavorful, rich and hearty and I was already full. I had the turkey pastrami for the sandwich and wow was it big! Ate the leftovers the following day but it was really good. I went with the "555" which is pastrami, cole slaw, swiss cheese, russian dressing and mustard on an onion roll. I went with onion rings as my side. Total was around $28.00. How was it? Bomb! 555- This sandwich was great! They use a thin sliced pastrami here, and they piled it on pretty high. The swiss cheese was melted nicely and the cole slaw gave the sandwich some texture. I liked the combo of the russian dressing AND mustard too. The onion roll was nice and buttery and soft too. A damn fine sandwich! Onion Rings- Meh. This is where it fell short. The onion rings looked good, but they were not. They were all batter and barely any onion. No bite or chew to the onion, basically like eating batter and air. Would definitely get fries or something else instead, next time. Bummer too, because I love me some onion rings! Service was ok. Not much to it. Brent's Deli is a true New York style Jewish Delicatessan. The look, the feel, and the food transcend you to a typical Jewish deli. Brent's Deli located in the San Fernando Valley rivals the more famous Langer's in town in the Westlake area of Los Angeles. So it was without a doubt that I had the Brent's #13 which is similar to Langers #19 --- pastrami topped with cole slaw, Swiss cheese, and thousand island dressing on a double baked rye bread. The specialty sandwich was exactly what the soul was looking for and certainly as good as Langers #19 without the hassle of the drive to Westlake. Brent's is very popular and gets very crowded for almost the entire day. They do take reservations for 6 or more. Parking is easy and free. Prices were reasonable. Service was good and wait staff was attentive. I will definitely be back to try their chicken matso ball soup and other Jewish comfort food. read more

I've always loved Brent's because it brings me right back to my New York days, when I was always in delis. The atmosphere has that true NYC deli feel, which makes the experience even better. Carol ordered the Cobb Salad, and she said it was absolutely delicious. I tried something new and ordered the 555 after our waiter suggested it. I'd never had it before, but wow--what a great choice. I'm a Jewish deli snob. Heard great things about Brents, and was very much looking forward to it. I judge a deli on 5 things: kishka, egg cream, pastrami, fries, and bakery/dessert. Brents scored for having kishka. Serving it on farfel is a choice I would have made. Didn't look as rich and enticing as I expected, but the flavor was great. Again, points for having egg cream on the menu. The server didn't seem to know how to make it, and needed to get help. They brought extra seltzer, and at first I thought I had to mix it myself. (Not the case.) It was ok. Not great. And maybe the first egg cream I didn't finish I had the Reuben with pastrami and tasted the pastrami on its own. Lots of flavor, tender, very good! (Not as good as Katz's but probably as good as Langers.) Yay for steak/thick cut fries. Could have been crisper, and should be seasoned even a little as they are removed from the fryer The bakery gets an F. Most of the stuff was prepackaged and looked meh. Very limited selection. We left without getting anything. (Unheard of!) Honorable mention: Pickle plate on the table as you are seated. And the pickles were pretty good. Honorable mention 2: I saw matza ball soup on a nearby table. It looked fine enough, but I make my grandma's soup and see no need to order it out. I have been on a collision course with a black pastrami Rueben sandwich and I crashed into one today. I haven't been to Brent's in years and I am not sure why not. Went on a Saturday afternoon around130 thinking it would be empty. Well I had a 20 min wait that actually only took about 10 mins. The restaurant was packed the tables and booths were full. Started with a potato latke app that came with sour cream and apple sauce. Perfectly cooked and completely got me ready for the star of the show. The Rueben sandwich. It came with fries and Coleslaw. It was topped with the Russian dressing Swiss cheese and sauerkraut. Tender pastrami, flavorful dressing and a treat to eat. The staff was super friendly and very attentive. Our drinks stayed full and they gave us drinks to go. The sandwich is piled high with meat and honestly half would work. Next time I'll try the half sandwich and soup combo! Recently went back to Brent's - pretty much an iconic restaurant at this point in the LA area. A few friends and I were talking about matzoh ball soup and I just so happened to be in the area visiting a friend, so I thought it would be perfect to hit this place up on the way home. I came in the late afternoon so I was able to get seated pretty much right away. Since it was almost dinner time there were groups starting to trickle in (it was a Sunday). I saw that they had a soup and sandwich combo with the pastrami and I couldn't pass it up lol. And of course I had to order a chocolate egg cream on top of that to wash everything down. I had the pastrami on rye with Cole slaw and Russian dressing, and a bowl of matza ball soup. My mother ordered an omelette. First off, if you're going to charge $14 for a bowl of matza ball soup, you would think they could afford to put salt in it. I NEVER add salt in restaurants...did multiple shakes to make it palatable. The pastrami also had little flavor, and the cole slaw and dressing had NO tang....just flat. My mom enjoyed her omelet, but a mushroom and avocado omelet should not be $24. I was looking forward to this meal, as it got high praise from my boss. But....will not return, and now looking forward to Canter's on Monday. How can a deli get matza ball soup wrong?????? The decor is old school, there is a full on deli that you can order from, in addition to plenty of baked goods like black and white cookies, chocolate eclairs, carrot cake, and Lemon bars. Everything looks fresh and delicious. As we sat at our table, we were greeted with a plate of kosher pickles and a plate of rye bread with butter. The service here is great, and your waiter is constantly checking on you to make sure you have everything you need.
