Yet another up-scale taco bar. My buddy and I are on a weekly quest for the perfect taco in a sit-down restaurant and we're yet to come close. The ambience, service and appearance of the food are very VERY good but the tacos were lacking in flavor and were very dry. The nachos were pretty good but expensive at $16. As I wrote in my review of another such place, if you prefer your Mexican food not too mexicanny this may be the place for you. Brewers Row exemplifies something I love about Tacoma: It's full of little places that exude passion and love for the craft. Stepping into this unassuming bar, one meets a lively, enthusiastic wait staff, a large but accessible menu, plenty of beer, and tasteful decorations. You have to order at the back of the restaurant, but walking through you'll hear the staff joking with guests as they buzz around attending to every need. It feels extremely welcoming. When we approached the counter, the cashier was discussing Spanish linguistics with a more fluent colleague. We'd order a few items, and then there'd be another spat of banter, then they'd apologize and continue taking our order before getting interrupted again. It was delightful; they were animated, entertaining, and while they were debating, the bartender was showing off just how deep their pours are. The food is pretty straightforward Mexican fare. My $9.50 carne asada burrito was only about 5-6" long and needed more seasoning - even the chipotle salsa didn't do much for the flavor. The pollo frito featured sumptuous dark meat and crispy skin, and the tortilla soup was very comforting. The food felt a bit pricey, especially with a taco truck available at the gas station across the street. (We didn't get to try the nachos but my god, they look amazing.) My wife said her margarita was one of the best she's ever had. They forgot my beer but promptly brought it out when I reminded them, and then returned after the meal with a complimentary order of churros to apologize. Not having my beer before the food was the smallest of inconveniences, but going above and beyond to make it up to us shows commitment to customer service and the guest experience. Being in Brewers Row is a delight. You're made to feel right at home in this little tavern. Maybe I just didn't pick the right entree, so I'll have to go back to find out. read more

Very good breakfast burritos. Their food is fresh and tasty. There's a wide variety of options. There seems to be a lot of other good foods and drinks too, so I look forward to trying something else (maybe). I wish I could give 4 stars. I cannot, for the life of me, understand why they would subject customers picking up to go orders to have to stand in the same line others have to wait in to place orders. It can get pretty busy at times - you may have to budget at least 5-20 mins longer for pickup since you cannot just pick up an order that's sitting there waiting. We were planning on grabbing a drink at Cook's Tavern but didn't realize they did not open until 4pm....little did we know they also own this spot! Such a cool bar/restaurant! Lots of beer to choose from but if that's not your thing you can get a Bloody Mary, Margarita, or head over to the cooler to grab yourself a cosmopolitan or Knob Creek old fashioned! Can't believe i haven't reviewed Brewers row as I probably eat here at least once a week. I love this place, its small, casual, quick, and delicious. Everything on the menu is BOMB - don't forget to get the avocado crema & carrot habanero sauces (my personal fav's). Normally I get an al pastor quesedilla. Swear, I could eat this every single day. Love this place. Visited 10+ time with my dog as we can sit on the patio. Only spot in the Proctor district area I've found that is dog friendly on the patio ~ and even better, the people working here have always been friendly and without asking offer to unlock the stools on the patio regardless of the weather. I really appreciate the quality food but even more the spirit of service to the customer. My dog and I will keep coming back. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in Tacoma! I have been coming here for years and love how they have not only staple dishes but seasonal ones as well to mix things up. I love their tacos, especially the sweet potato kale option. They also have amazing breakfast options such as their biscuit egg sandwiches. Ordered the Gallinero (chicken) nachos. Chips were way overly salty, chicken tasted like it was from a can, and I was charged for extra jalapeños, but received the world's tiniest smattering of diced jalapeños. When I asked for more, I was met with incredulity and disbelief; last I checked, when you pay for "extra" of something, it ought to be visible on the plate. Do you see jalapeños in the pic? This place puts the "taco" in Tacoma, literally! If you want tacos, beer, or even coffee then this is the place to be at! I came here to eat an early lunch and decided to order an iced horchata latte along with their Del Fuego Nachos. These nachos are so bomb by the way, a must order for me! Better than your average nachos for sure and if you don't believe me, then check it out yourself but bring a friend because the portions are huge. Leftovers are never a bad thing though, I'll end up hungry again sooner or later. They're basically chili powdered chips with al pastor pork, chipotle salsa, house pickled chiles en escabeche, tapatio aioli, and cilantro. I'm a lover of spicy food so if you aren't, I suggest ordering something else. After eating, I got a box for the rest of my food and bought a growler for some beer to go. Note: you need to buy the jug separately ($6) and you just pay for them to fill it so don't forget to bring it with you next time you come back! They come in 32oz and 64oz sizes. I only did not give this place the full 5 stars because the horchata latte didn't taste like horchata to me and they didn't have a TV anymore (there was one last time playing sports). If I ever had to claim a place as "my spot" I would do Brewers. You can't go wrong! Want breakfast? The cheddar jalapeno biscuit with bacon is life changing! Want lunch? Share the gallineros nachos or get the taco salad! Dinner? My husband always gets the carnitas burrito but I love their sweet potato mix. Their churros are always fresh made. The beer is cold. The service is friendly. the place is small so not great for your group of 10 (though they do have a big table) but we haven't struck out on finding a place to sit yet. read more

In the heart of the N. End, I drive by this location often and never knew it sat next to Cook's Tavern until a friend invited here. The vibe is light and chill with indoor and outdoor seating. You order at the counter and clean off your own plates and table when you're done. They serve Mexican food and beer with a couple Bloody Mary options. Customer service is good. If you are looking for some dang good breakfast burritos, this is the place. My husband and I come here solely for their burritos. You can choose from a variety of meat and they have really great salsa. The place is small...ish, but lots of seating. I love the vibe; very welcoming. There is also outdoor seating. I'm saving my 5th star for when we come back during the evening for food and drinks. We heard the nachos are suppose to be delicious. This place also has a decent amount of beers on tap (20?) and canned. The service has always been friendly and fast, but we've only been here during the morning (between 7am-9am) on the weekends. I don't even know where to begin when it comes to Brewers. My love and I order take out breakfast here almost every Sunday. Our favorite thing to do is pick up Breakfast burritos and then go to Point Defiance for a walk/picnic. Online ordering system is beyond simple and they really allow you to customize your order with more add-on options. Food is always ready when we pick up and service is always welcoming. We have tried the Asada Breakfast burrito (BB), Bacon BB, and Carnitas BB. Loved each one individually especially the carnitas is nice and flavorful. The potatoes in the burrito are YUM also with nice and fluffy scrambled egg. Tie everything together with the Avocado Crema and Habanero sauce (AN ABSOLUTE MUST) I also add Bacon each time to my burrito (extra charge), it really elevates it and you cant go wrong with a lil extra bacon 10/10 would recommend. If you don't have the appetite for a huge ol burrito, Brewers also has breakfast taquitos that are just as yummy and perfect size for a quick breakfast. On another note, THE CHURROS. They have them down to a science. Freshly made to order each time. Hot and crunchy on the outside, and so perfectly soft and chewy in the inside. I no longer crave Disneyland Churros because Brewers now stands as best churro I have ever had. Worth getting half a dozen each time. read more

This place is, arguably, the best Mexican food in Tacoma right now. I am obsessed with the nachos here. The vegetarian options are both amazing- these are not half-hearted 'obligatory vegetarian section' consolation offerings. As a warning, the nachos are huge and tend to be heavy on cheese from what I've experienced. But for $11.50 for a literal tray full, I'm not complaining. I also had one of the seasonal offerings last time- artichoke heart tacos. Also fantastic. The rice is flavorful and beans are whole bean and seasoned with just enough cotija on top to add cheese flavor without drowning out the beans. $11 for 3 tacos with rice and beans, it's a great buy. A girlfriend heard about his place via one her clients. Despite being open since, I believe, January 2017, I had never heard about it. I'm thankful that the recommendation was made, however, because it is an awesome joint. The atmosphere is very casual and laid back. It's gotta bit of a hipster vibe to it. Kids are welcome so it's family friendly. There's also a projector screen on the wall so it's an option for Seahawks games! Let's start with the essentials: the chips and salsa. They aren't free but they are fantastic. You can order a small or large. A small is plenty for two people. The chips are light and crispy and not at all greasy. They have just the right amount of salt too! The salsa the chips come with is more of a pico de gallo. It's fresh and yummy but I, personally, craved a traditional salsa. Luckily they have quite the assortment of *housemade* salsas -- avocado cream, salsa verde, chipotle tomato, and roasted habeñero. I can only speak to the chipotle tomato and roasted habeñero The chipotle is great and a good go-to for the majority of peeps, but the roasted haberñero, albeit understandably spicy, has unique sweetness to it that I loved. As for more hearty food options -- my friend had the del fuego nachos and I had the autumn vegetable tostadas (a seasonal dish). My friend *loved* the nachos, saying they were the perfect amount of spice and she particularly enjoyed the Tapatio aioli. The tostadas were equally good and really filling. Drink wise, it's just beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages, but the selection is vast. There are 24 beers on tap, all from local brewers. There are enough wine options to satisfy nearly anyone (unless you're truly a wine snob). If you can't find anything on tap, there is a cooler of additional canned beer and some bottled wine. JFYI -- you can purchase beer and wine from the cooler to go! All in all -- this place gets a solid 5 stars. Service is friendly, food is relatively fast, and other patrons are noticeably friendly. Fun place--great beer program, really good food. Prices are okay, but this is not the place to come for unbelievable value. It's more on the get-what-you-pay-for end of the spectrum. They have a nice open space with some pubby bistro seating on the sidewalk. They have huge gatefold windows they open during nice weather. You order at the counter and the staff expedites your food when it's ready. They even have a drinks-only line to keep it moving. They pour a couple dozen beers, mostly local (even hyper-local T-Town breweries). There's cider and wine as well. They pick good kegs, and don't fill the whole list with big names; they clearly pick beers they like and want people to try, not just stuff that sells itself with no sampling or describing required. They keep the lines clean and pour a good pint, but no fancy glassware, just shaker pints. Prices are okay, not great; $6.50 and up after tax. The food is REALLY good. Four of us had pork belly tacos (great), burritos (equally good), nachos (fantastic--seriously), brussels sprouts with crispy pork belly (also fantastic) and side salsas. The salsas had tons of heat and flavor. Tons of food on the table, two beers each, came to about $150-160 for four. Perfectly reasonable but there are definitely less expensive places in town. I will definitely be back for more of the food and beer. read more
