First time here and last time here. I wish I could review the pizza, but I can't because it never got to me. Upon walking in we were told there was a 30 minute wait for pizza. After being seated we ordered immediately. Almost an hour went by with very little communication. Eventually the server came over and explained the kitchen was behind and asked if we wanted to cancel our order?! That was a first and given that our party had hungry children that was not an option. Some more time passed at which point I went to find the server. We were then told that there were a lot of take out orders and no timetable for when our order would be ready. We were then offered croutons. Another first for me! At that point we opted to end our stellar evening at Brewport. Luckily McDonald's saved the evening for my son. The service at McDonald's was prompt and excellent. Perhaps the quote-unquote manager at Brewport could shadow at McDonald's to observe what descent service looks like. Yelp requires me to give one star, Brewport deserves a 0 out of 5. read more

Great place to stop before a Bluefish game. Brewport is a spacious brewery with ample parking (if you arrive on weekends before 5pm), decent beer, and OK pizza. I ordered a flight (loved the South End Pale Ale) and a Brew Master pizza. (Note: The Small pizza is ~14" and the Large pizza is ~16", so it's never worth it to get a Large if you're a party of two. Better to just get two Smalls and have a decent amount of pizza leftover for the next day.) Also, I'm not a fan of greasy thin-crust pizza that's cut into squares, so I didn't particularly enjoy my meal, but my flight, La Fin Du Monde beer, and Disco Paloma cocktail were delightful. I also spent an hour in their game room (jumbo Jenga, checkers, chess, and Connect Four) which was filled with energetic kids and their parents. Ultimately, I think Brewport's space would be better suited for 20-30 somethings, and should move away from being the "family-friendly" brewery that it is now. (Note: SHOTS ARE NOT ALLOWED, for the purpose of keeping the environment casual, but I think it would definitely bring in more traction if they turned up the music and let the liquor flow.) read more

Great place. Can't believe it took us this long to visit. Beers were good, pizza was fantastic. We didn't have a salad, but they looked good also. Can't really go wrong with pizza and beer. Looks like it was wired for TV's, yet no TV's. Wasn't looking to watch TV, but that struck me as odd. Might wanna add those for football season, but place is very cool regardless. Horrible service. Came with 7 people on a Sunday was sat at a table that was tight for us. All other tables had a reserved sign. However place was not busy. We asked to move to a reserved table and was told that they were for 8 or more people however there was a table with 5 people sitting at another reserved table. We spoke to manager who offered us a chair which would not have helped the uncomfortable situation. We decided to leave and not spend our money on beer and pizza as planned. I recently booked Brewport for mine and my Fiancés 30th birthday party. Upon reading the contract it was clear to rent the side room that i had to spend a minimum of $500.. which was not a problem. When I arrived at Brewport I was speaking with the manager and I made him aware of my order or pizzas/salads... i then told him guests would be going to the bar for their drinks. He told me that was not allowed and it all has to be on my bill (my bill) I was very confused because no where in the contract does it state that. I then went over to speak with him again and i told him that is just not possible ... I would not be able to keep track of what everyone orders and then ask them for money at the end of the event? He told me " this is how it has been done for years this is how the owner wants it" He also told me he had 3 other parties and the bar was not fully staffed. I made him aware if he was going to have 3 parties staffing the bar would of been a good idea. The manager did not want to work with me at all or budge in anyway. The waitress we have for our party understood our concern with the bill and told us she would do her best to cocktail our event with separate checks. We had around 50 people at our event with ONE waitress... it took about 25 minutes for our guests to receive a drink. Keep in mind our waitress was great but unfortunately she just didn't have the help she needed. The pizza at Brewport is always great but i am so disappointed with the management and how the whole situation was handled. I understand we are in tough times and sometimes it can be difficult to hire adequate staff but the attitude I received was very unfortunate. To start none of the waiters were friendly or seems like they wanted to be there. They were all short and very monotone. After ordering dinner my pizza came fully burnt. I was able to eat maybe 1 slice that wasn't completely charred. No one even seemed to care that the pizza was inedible. read more

I'm a bit puzzled by the negative reviews of this place. A lot of microbreweries get inflated 4-5 star reviews before developing a track record of brewing consistently good beer, or turning into anything more than a counter in a warehouse. Attempt more than that, as Brewport has done, and you're exposing yourself to some harsh criticism. But I for one am glad they did, and couldn't have had a better experience visiting this place on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Make no mistake: when it comes to beer, they know what they're doing. After some sampling, I opted for a pint of the Hefeweizen (the "Schleuter"). It isn't the trendiest style of beer right now, but to create something like that, you really need to have mastered the brewing process. A lot can be covered up by throwing in all kinds of hops or fruit or spices, or by brewing something really dark. But Brewport's beers have a richness that only comes from years and years of experience working with water, yeast, and grain (and though Brewport itself hasn't been around long, their brewmaster, Jeff Browning, has been in the industry for years). Sitting at the bar, we received great service. As for the pizza: well, I'm not from New Haven, and I also was a few pints in by the time we ordered it. It came, and the next thing I knew, my girlfriend was complaining that she only got to have two pieces because I had apparently devoured the rest in a matter of minutes. Needless to say, I found it more than satisfactory. It was great to be able to show up for the beer, and then get quality, reasonably-priced pub food delivered to our table once we got hungry. The building, a renovated newspaper distribution facility, is both sleek and comfortable. Accessing it via I-95 and parking there was a cinch. I will be making special trips up the interstate to come back here, for sure. read more

Not sure what they are going for here. First of all they have best parking spaces blocked off (i suppose they're for the owners). You walk in through a gift shop and the feeling (and noise) is of a large, noisy cafeteria. In my opinion, not worth the daunting pot-holed-strewn back roads to get to this mediocre (at best) place. TVs in the bar would be nice but the reaction we got when asking about TVs, I would compare to what I expect the reaction would be if we had asked if they served Shlitz by the can. read more

Great place with super large pizza (excellent by the way) that can be shared with 3 people without starving. The individual salad is a must, one of the best I had in the area. Great value for money, great atmosphere, easy and ample parking lot. A must. On the improvement side, service somewhat slow and not very focused (missing the order, offering to replace plates and forgetting to do so..) Nice people overall and great decorum. First time here. The blood orange blonde beer was reallly good! Also got the Tree Hugger pizza without mushrooms, and it also was good, but needed a little something more. Definitely was better once we asked for some garlic powder and put that on it. The root beer that they brew there was also fantastic. When our server came to the table, he said he was training and it was only his 4th day. Never would've guessed if he didn't tell us. Good food, good service, good beer. Brewport is an okay pizza joint with craft beer. Overall the pizza is basically trying to knock off bar in new haven and does a mediocre job of it at best. Service at the bar has usually been pretty good not fast but not slow. Prices seem pretty fair for food and beer as well. The biggest thing I struggle with is the beer... the brewport beer itself is not good whatsoever so at least they offer some more mainstream options. For being a craft beer bar though those options are not great you may find one beer on the more rare side if you're lucky, but highly unlikely. As a side note there are no TVs so don't expect to watch a game here. Overall it's not a bad spot for a pizza and a beer but don't expect anything spectacular. read more

This is our second time here. The first I held off writing a review. The place was packed and there were service issues. Today friendly greeting, knowledgeable bartender, efficient service. The build out is beautiful and really gives a cool vibe. The beers brewed in house were solid. Also guest taps are a great mix. Yesterday I came to this establishment for the first time & I'm not the biggest fan of beer but my friend wanted to go so I agreed. We had the most wonderful waitress Emmy. She advise me to get a flight which I'm so happy I did, it allowed me to try a lot of different beers. She was VERY patient with me and even recommended & let me sample a few beers before deciding on the perfect flight for me. One of them which was her favorite and now my new obsession is the strawberry downeast LOVE LOVE LOVED IT! They had a lot of good house beers as well my second favorite, I would have to say was a tie between the Cream Ale & the Blood Orange. For a soft open, it went pretty well. I see a lot of negative reviews here but as far as I see it, they are improving their service. Remember this is their first attempt to fine tune the service. Ambiance is 5 stars, pizza is definitely 5 stars (watch out neighborhood pizza places I.e., frank Pepe, fire house) this place definitely got them beat. Thank you, Brewport, for creating another great environment to socialize, appreciate new beers, and satisfy the ever-present urge for good pizza. The Venue's blend of industrial and modern design creates a spacious, welcoming, sharp-looking atmosphere. Take a look at the online images to see the seating arrangements. Choose from a large bar, surrounding high-tops, standard-sized tables, raised areas along the borders, or on either side of the opened garage-style doors. They're south facing so you get plenty of sunshine on the patio beyond the doors, or right on the cusp. Both were perfect on the sunny 72-degree day we spent there. Well done, Brewport, on the scrap metal tabletops, lantern boxes, vat arrangement, and most certainly the keg urinals. Liquids: A friend and I found a selection of beers that suited us well. First up, of course, is Brewport's own beers. We started with a $14 flight that offered four 7 oz. pours. (Flights are a great way to start, in my opinion.) The Pale Ale was excellent. Dr. Prescription was a winner for my non-hoppy compatriot, who can be hard to please. The session IPA (7th Inning SIPA) was a win too. My thumbs are up for most session IPA's. (Founder's All Day; Blue Point Mosaic; and Lagunitas Day Time and Stony Creek Little Cranky. Two Roads Lil's Heaven isn't bad either.) Barrett Brothers Brown Ale was well crafted but struck me as the choice for a colder day. We both migrated to the Blood Orange Blonde, eventually, since the afternoon sunshine on the patio seemed to warrant it. And again, another great beer - brewed with a well-rounded palette and delicious blood orange. There are several others to taste, and I imagine most, if not all, are worthy of a tall glass. The bar offers a number of rotating guest taps too, which adds to the selection for beer fans. While Lawson's Sip of Sunshine was no longer offered, though still listed on their webpage, there were several other prime choices, like Hobbit Juice. I mention this so you're aware the online tap list may not be most current, but that's probably standard for places that offer such unique choices. In fact, I was near certain Sunshine would be gone by the time we got there. Rest assured though, there'll be other choices that will make your beer belly jiggle. In addition to the great selection of brands, Brewport offers 3 glass sizes. One is just 7 oz (for about $3.50), which is great for the patron looking for just a little something more. Don't worry, you can still ask for a sample of something if you're considering it and not get locked into ordering the small glass. Spending time with the brewmaster, Jeff, enhanced our experience. We spotted him picking hops out of vines placed on a table on the patio. He welcomed us over, and like a true Tom sawyer, got us helping him pick away before long. It was a pleasure getting my hands in the greens while chatting with the man behind the beers I was enjoying at that moment. He's a CT native and certainly a beer lover, so he had plenty to share about the craft and its history. I join him in celebrating that CT residents are now looking within state for craft beers so there's a base to support breweries like this one. While crushing a few hops and adding them to our beers, as recommended by Jeff, we met a number of other patrons that were interested like us. Since one of the main draws of a bar is socializing with new people, I appreciated the opportunity to meet so many people and hear bits of their stories. Our server, Levi, deserves points for her tableside manner, too. She was the kind of chill waitress that fit our chill day there. Food: The menu is simple - pizza and salad are your two options. We took on the Korean BBQ pulled pork & kimchi pie. The kitchen was quick and the presentation was good. (It's worth noting that the setup allows you to watch the kitchen at work, which is always of interest to me.) The pie is very thin and asymmetrical, so the beauty of the dish is found in its other aspects. The pie was good, but I found myself wishing the pork had a richer flavor and had sweeter bbq sauce. I also sought after the pickled kimchi flavor I know of. Again, we both enjoyed it, but I did recognize room for growth. That said, Jeff later explained to me that this style of bbq and kimchi is more traditional, so I think it's important I mention my idea of Korean bbq & kimchi may be warped by my exposure to non-traditional dishes. There were some other good-looking pies, but our second one happened to be one of the specials, which was full of goodness. It had cheddar, ricotta, tomato, spinach, spicy sausage, egg, and perhaps another ingredient or two. It was quite good! I even switched over to a fork and knife to really take in the flavor of each bite. The leftovers came home with me so I could share with more family. They all gave the thumbs up. We went here last Friday with friends before the Kevin Hart show. The Barrett Pizza (Korean bbq pulled pork with Kimchi) sounds dubious, but it was the most delicious pizza I have had in a longtime. Sweet and salty with bursts of flavor in your mouth on a ultra think crust dough that has open pockets of air so the crust is extra crispy. Soooo good. The antipasta salad was amazing too. I was torn between 3 and 4 stars but I had to go with three. The service was THAT bad. We waited 15 minutes at the bar just to be order three beers then another 6 minutes for the actual beers then another 5 minutes for the bill. We then got seated at the table. From the time we sat until the time the waitress picked up our check we were there for two hours. That was for two small pizzas and three root beers. We waited an hour for our food and then about another 20 minutes for our to go box then another 20 for her to bring the bill then another 10 for her to pick up the bill. I would chalk it up to a bad server but it was JUST as bad at the bar. The food was pretty decent. The pizza is a LITTLE to thin for me but it had great flavor. The beer was awesome and I would go back just for the homemade root beer alone. I was very impressed to see a new food establishment in Bridgeport actually doing well because the place was full which was exciting. Now if they can just get a handle on the service they would probably not have had so many people walking out of the door angry. My boyfriend and I went there for a late lunch early dinner, he has been there many times before, for me it was my first time! It was absolutely fabulous from start to finish. For me, it was a bit nostalgic as back in the early 90s, I worked in that building for many years. Fairfield County News, which was a newspaper and magazine distributed, also housed a paperback book division. But I want to give a shout out to Rich the manager(he actually brought our salad over to us and engaged in conversation), and Ted, our waiter was awesome! We will definitely be back!
