My partner in crime and I moved from Pasadena. Which only has 25 restaurants for every restaurant in Redlands. I'm not kidding. For some strange reason Pasadena has the distinction of having the most 'seating' for diners nearly anywhere, presumably outside of NYC. So while many may compare pizzerias in or near Redlands, we're also comparing to Pasadena. Which for our new local vendors is BRUTAL competition. Take pity. So far we've been impressed. RUI'S SHANGHAI BISTRO is good Chinese this side of MAMA'S LU DUMPLING HOUSE in Monterey Park. Not the same or as good, but real good just the same. TOKYO RESTAURANT competes well against TOKORO SUSHI in South Pasadena. Believe it or not we can't find as good Mexican. Yet. And by Mexican I mean both informal (the lunch 'burrito' spots) and fancier marguerita restaurants, although DON ORANGE may be that winner. And now pizza. I'm Eyetalian and that eye is rather picky. I can and will make pizza if it comes to it. Bricks and birch is going up against the infamous SETTEBELLOS in Pasadena's Playhouse District & Las Vegas. Before I ordered I eyeballed REAL scones. (Scones?!? In a pizza joint?!?) I didn't hesitate to order one. It's a visual thing, I knew they'd be great. We got a lemon and blueberry and it was better than great. It was phenomonal. It promised a really tasty pizza but I still had my doubts. So silly of me. My swineapple was TERRIFIC -- and I almost never order a ham and pineapple pizza. It left SETTEBELLO in the dust, which kind has harsh bitter crust. This location catapuluted to my BEST OF REDLANDS so far because the interior was as good as the food. BRAVO B&B. It breaks my heart to write this review, because I love this place. But I've had it. I've absolutely HAD IT. It appears that the owners of Bricks and Birch are either not familiar with California law, or they are not familiar with the hazards of preparing and eating food in a shared space with animals. Or maybe both. I've watched it happen numerous times while sitting and enjoying my drink/food at Bricks and Birch. Someone comes in with their pooch in tow, orders their items at the counter (with uncovered pizza ingredients just a couple feet away), and then often times takes a seat inside to eat/drink. With their dog. A couple feet away from others who are eating and drinking. And throughout the process, the staff of B & B don't even bat an eye. Seriously?? Other cafes and restaurants in the Redlands area are starting to wise up and not only post a cautionary reminder of the California law in their windows, but they also ENFORCE it. (I'm including a few pics of those signs.) I've spoken with other patrons of B & B and other establishments. It seems that a growing number of people are becoming fed up with the dog issue. We came about an hour before closing on a Thursday night and the place was not crowded at all! I usually come here in the afternoon though and it is always so hard to find a seat with all the students frequenting here to study. I've honestly tried pretty much all their pizzas here and my favorite so far is the Thai pizza! Very unique idea to this place and Thai food is just my comfort food so obviously this is my fav! We got the ham and pineapple pizza this time and was a little underwhelming but still yummy! They were also offering an art of tea event with an extensive variety of teas! read more

Loooove the pizza. Damn near the best crust I've had in awhile. Similar to Woodhaus in Yucaipa, but thinner. Which is fantastic to me! Flavorful toppings - especially the cheese - what kind is it? Sooo good. Oh - the caprese salad - the lettuce so crisp and tasty and the dressing was perfection. why 4 stars? The tables were all dirty probably b/c the staff was totally preoccupied with their mobile devices. Seems to be a hangout for the locals - half the tables were occupied by people not eating or drinking, which made eating amongst them a bit uncomfortable. Also, I whacked my head on a hanging lamp that really should be raised up, or, a table should be centered underneath it. Went on a date here. Not the best spot for that. I cleaned my own table and there were lots of flies. The food however, makes up for all of this. The salad was great with large slices of pepperoni. Besides this being a cute coffee shop that's good for studying, their pizza and pastries are so yummy! Their fresh baked pastries always taste great, and I personally think they have the best cookies in town. I'm a big fan of their pizzas, and I can't recommend them enough. I'm vegetarian, and they have the best veggie pizza ever. I also love that they are now offering mini pizzas during lunchtime hours; they are the perfect little portion. Their staff is also very kind, I once requested a Breakfast pizza but they were out of eggs. They had also changed their hours for serving it, but the changes weren't reflected online yet. So they let me know about the changes and offered to make it for me anyway without the eggs, and I really appreciated it. One thing to note is that when it gets busy, the pizzas can take awhile, upwards of 45 minutes. All in all, I love this place! read more

This place is a lot smaller than I thought it was from the photos. That's not a bad thing (unless you're looking to dine in and the place is packed...which, does occur). Anyway, though the location is relatively small, the pizzas and the flavors they pack into them are HUGE! I went with the Thai Pie pizza for lunch and it was REALLY GOOD. I didn't think my favorite Thai taste of cashew chicken or spring roll would come through being added to a cheese pizza....boy, was I wrong. That peanut sauce they drizzle over the top of the pizza is on point! Mixed with that moist chicken, bean sprouts, carrots an green onion....wow, really made me feel like I was eating at my favorite Thai restaurant. The pizza crust here is delicious, too. It's not flavored, but doesn't need to be . It's just a perfect blend of airy, doughy and crisp. I'm ashamed to say that I ate the entire pizza in one sitting. Oh boy.... Place is located on a corner and has such great curb appeal. Was really excited to dine here for lunch. It was around 1:30pm on a Saturday and we were happy that the place wasn't packed. We ordered two pizzas bbq chicken and Margarita. Their soda machine was down so we opted for the ice tea which was refreshing. This place is pretty much self serve. They don't bring any of your order to your table. This isn't a problem, however when my pizzas were ready and my name was called to grab the pies from the counter I almost dropped them because the the silver trays the pizzas are served on was HOT! They offer paper plates and napkins at the same counter. The pizza crusts were awesome, but the toppings were not impressive. The chicken on the bbq chicken pizza was extremely dry, overcooked, and had the day old chicken taste that is super unappealing. There was way to much tomato sauce on the margarita and it resembled and tasted like tomato soup. While we were eating the pizzas I couldn't help but notice how disheveled the tables and chairs were. The table tops were not wiped down and the the trash was full to the brim. I was surprised at the lack of cleanliness especially since we noticed the 4-5 staff behind the counter were just hanging around and chatting. To top it off the bathroom didn't have any toilet paper. It's frustrating because their pizza, when not burnt, is some of the nest pizza I have had in SoCal. And I am from NY so I am PICKY. Unique + quaint cafe style place with exposed brick hidden near downtown Redlands. Cool, relaxed vibe here. They serve an interesting combination of foods, with oven fired pizza as their namesake, they also have pretty good coffee and pastries, along with salads as well. I ordered the BBQ chicken pizza, and and iced latte during my lunch break. The pizza came much quicker than I thought it would(within 10 min), and it had that fresh, brick oven fired goodness to it. The chicken was succulent, and the cheese and toppings were flavorful and a delight to the senses. Tlthe relaxed vibe, good food and quick wifi make this a perfect spot for lunch or a an easy and unique Meetup spot....I shall return again! Update...I came back and tried the BLT pizza...if you like BLTs with fresh ingredients, then you'll love this pizza as well! Bricks and Birch is one of my favorite restaurants in the entire Inland Empire! All of the food they offer - pizza, salads, pastries, coffee - are all delicious and use high quality ingredients. The pizzas are all wood-fired in a brick oven and have a perfectly crispy yet still chewy crust. I usually order 1 pizza and 1 pastry to split between me and another person and the total comes out to around $20. You can even order half-half pizzas but they'll charge at the price of the more expensive pizza. Some of my favorite pizzas are: -Mushroom brie: sooooo good but I'm probably biased because I love mushrooms & brie. -Rocket man: comes with prosciutto, arugula, burrata, and pine nuts. It's a great choice and you can't go wrong with this one. -Thai pie: a unique pizza that tastes kind of like pad thai on a pizza. Even though it has both sweet chili & peanut sauces, they weren't overpowering. Their pastries are also really good and I really like their cheesecakes. For their coffee, they actually use Stumptown coffee beans. Stumptown isn't a local roaster, but it's still a high quality one. I've had a lot of coffee both here and at Augie's close by, and I actually think they're comparable. Interesting fact about me: the first cappuccino I had here was so good that I started getting into espresso and even purchased an espresso machine. It feels pretty spacious on the inside with high ceilings and the wood furniture is nice! Has a somehow intimate, yet also industrial feel? They had me hooked with pizza and coffee, and mimosas!! What a place to offer such enjoyable delicacies!! I really wanted to try some of their more adventurous pizzas, but I was splitting amongst friends so we went with the essential pepperoni pizza. It takes about 10 minutes if the place isn't too packed. It came out warm, gooey cheesy, crispy crust and pepperoni - totally delicious!! We cleaned the plate and would've ordered a second if we had time!! I needed caffeine badly so I went with a cold brew - black. Totally did the job. Next time if I'm having a more leisurely visit I'd love to try their lavender latte :) Last but not least, their fucking scones...YUM!!! I had the lemon blueberry and that to me was probably the highlight, only because next time I can buy one or two extra to take home with me!! Lol!! My husband and I love this place. Yet, tonight we waited forever to get our two pizzas because a take out order came right before we got there. Our little girls were having trouble handling the wait as were we. Then our pizza came out burnt! We decided to eat the girls' burnt cheese pizza anyways but couldn't find it in ourselves to eat my husband's special. It was just too burnt. So I took it back up to the counter and have it remade. The guy making the pizzas wasn't sympathetic which was disappointing. Yet, as i look back, he was probably just stressed out of his mind trying to make all those pizzas. Frustrated, I went over to the dark-haired girl behind the counter to just get a refund for the pizza we couldn't eat. To my surprise, she offered to remake both the pizzas and refund the price of my husband's special. She even threw in two m and m cookies for my girls! She was so kind, generous and understanding that I totally regret complaining. She gave me some of the most restorative customer service of my life. My family was very thankful. read more

Love the idea of supporting local businesses and there aren't that many good ones in Redlands. So, I want to support this place but it's too expensive for the staff to be so rude. Feels like a Williamsburg, BK coffee shop while most good Redlands places are small town feeling and welcoming. There were three people behind the counter when I was here. One focused 100% on pizzas, didn't even look at customers. I get it, can't have burnt pizzas! 1 cashier who was nice and helpful but disappeared from time to time. And, one barista. The barista was the backup cashier but he either has the wrong personality to be a backup cashier or there is something else going on. When the head casher disappeared, which happened frequently while I was there, the barista always seemed annoyed to have to talk to customers and provide service. There was no other visible manager type around modeling good behavior. Various times he didn't even greet a customer as they walked up, he just stared at them and waited for them to order. I saw various people offput and surprised by this. Anytime I pay for food, I don't want to be put in a bad mood. The food I tasted was a 4 but the service was among the worst I've had. So, it gets a 2 for putting me in a bad mood when I'm paying you and tipping you. Yes, I'm a tipping customer and tipped them when completing my initial transaction out of habit. I wish I could take it back. If you do go there, don't tip until you leave, because you might realize they don't deserve it. I can forgive any kids working behind a counter. They have great pastries and coffee at the Redlands location in comparison at the Food Lab they don't serve coffee nor scones only cookies. I had to go ask for it after my 2 friends received their orders (they ordered after I did). They also forgot to make one of my friend's pizzas....she ordered 2. I'm not sure how they missed it. I could understand the mix ups if they had been busy, but the place was nearly empty. My advice: Save your money.
