Ambience is first for me. I check out a review of coffee houses in some neighborhood I am about to visit, and I read all the stuff about how their coffee is the best-tasting in the whole world or not so great. But all I want is something that tells me: Do they have seats that are comfortable to sit in for hours while I'm getting my writing done, and is the environment lovely? They post 1001 photos of their cups of coffee, and all I'm looking for is photos showing the ambience. Bricks and Scones is about as close as I can get to being out in nature while getting work done in the big city, and there is a pile of cushions in a bin by the door. The workers. treat me like a friend. And, by the way, their fig and rosemary scones are great. What more could I ask for? Time spent in Bricks and Scones is definitely worth the two bus rides each way for me to get there. read more

The perfect European-themed cafe / study spot. I feel like a modern day Belle studying and eating at this cafe. The cafe has two stories. Both have ample seating. First floor's temperature is a lot cooler and there's a nice breeze (good for the summer heat). The second floor is more stuffy, but it is quieter and more individualized so you can focus on work. There's plenty of NICE seating outside too, where you can work or chitchat. The menu is very diverse ranging from drinks to whole meals. I always get their bottomless iced tea which is around $7, and you can refill it however many times you please. I've had their earl grey scone (couldn't taste much earl grey but you see the tea leaves in there) and matcha white chocolate scone with jam and butter - solid 3.5/5. I'd get it again because it's simple and easy to eat. I also tried the breakfast quesadilla which was pretty good 4/5! For lunch later, I tried the chicken pesto sandwich was really delicious 4.8/5. Their side of salad is pretty yummy too. Their menu is very captivating, and I definitely want to come back to try more. Parking is street meter parking. Service is very friendly. Hidden gem in Larchmont! My fave local coffee shop to get work done! It has so many different workspaces and the vibes are always amazing. Everything's super cute inside and out on the patio. The lattes and cappuccinos are so good! I haven't had their food, only croissants which were great! The staff is always friendly and accommodating and the crowd is always good. read more

Met a friend for morning hang. Lots of good snacks on the menu. We had baked goods, matcha and a smoothie. All great. I'd go back for a full breakfast, they have an extensive menu. The selling point of this sneaky treasure is the lovely shady green, green patio. So great! Lots of plants and space and vibes. Everyone was so friendly, the patrons seemed lulled into happy by the lush big outdoor space. Lots of greenery and open space really make this spot a winner. If I were rich, I'd live in Larchmont Village. Why not? Kind of a cross between Silver Lake and Wilshire with a cute bookstore, ice cream shop and cafes. And maybe my favorite is the Bricks & Scones cafe with hidden writing spots where wannabe screenwriters plot alien invasions, and outdoor tables where old women with delicate jewelry bring their dog Delilah, who sniffs out the phony producers who complain loudly about how their project was so damn close to getting green-lit (shucks) while yelpers write run on sentences. Despite all these Hollywood shenanigans, which I kinda enjoy, Bricks and Scones is a fun little cafe with a giant chandelier above a spiraling staircase that leads to the aforementioned hidden writing nooks. Just don't get caught under it during the next earthquake. The kitchen has some tasty options, especially now since the weather is so dang nice. read more

Since my first review of this location in 2015, I'd have to say I've gone over 25+ times in the last five years. It's honestly the location, aesthetics, and seating options that bring me back time and time again-- but not the food or drinks. I don't think their food or drinks are particularity special or good. As of right now their menu feels like a jumble of things (from ramen to grilled cheese to smoothies) and it comes off as if they don't truly know what they have to offer. I really want to understand what they excel in and what makes them special. Why should I choose this cafe versus others? If it's scones that are supposed to make you stand out, then let's see more unique scone flavors--and more vegan and gluten-free options so everyone can not only be included, but have options too. I'd rather have a small menu with quality food then a large menu with forgettable food. I will say though, they have finally included a single vegan scone/pastry, and it was surprisingly good. By the time my vegan friend arrived at 11:30am on a Saturday, the vegan scone sold out, so clearly there is a demand for this kind of food. So it'd be nice if they catered to their customers in the future by offering more of these options and prepare more to last longer throughout the day. I also take issue with this location because management has refused to work with me in the past to reserve tables. I've hosted many events at this location and brought them a lot of business, but when I've requested to please reserve a space for a book club or event, they've been uninterested in being helpful toward me. So we are now going to another location for our book club next month. Despite the feedback I'm sure will be perceived as negative, I do really want to see this location thrive, and that's why I feel detailed feedback is important. I will, without a doubt go again, but unlikely to bring them as much business as before. read more

Passed this little gem on the way home today and had to stop in. The menu had options for any café craving you might have but we couldn't decide what we wanted. Giovanni was so kind and helped us through the menu. We ended up getting an egg ham and jack croissant panini, a white chocolate matcha scone, and a brown sugar latte. The service was great and everything was delicious. There was garden patio seating in the front, some outside seating in the back, and the inside was a cute library lounge vibe. So cozy and cute. Cute neighborhood cafe to get some work done in! I'm pretty sure the owners know this is their shtick too, which offerings like unlimited iced tea and free wifi. Came here on a weekday afternoon to crank out some work. Walking in, you will be greeted by an overwhelming menu of both food and drinks. I opted to order the bottomless iced tea and an earl grey scone (because when it's in the name you can't not). There's patio seating in the front, as well as outdoor seating under the car park in the back, plus some tables/chairs inside. I started by sitting outside, as I had a call to take, and eventually moved inside to a table. For working here for a while, there is a decent number of outlets but folks will likely be squatting on them, so make sure to show up with fully charged electronics! Also, while the wifi is free it's not very strong. Definitely cannot handle any video calls and at times would disconnect entirely. Personally, I'd probably come back to curl up with a book versus using this as a spot to work when wifi is required. The ambiance is cute and folks seem to be polite and quiet, which is always nice. read more

Every time I come here, I try a different breakfast or lunch menu option (excluding the pastries / baked goods which are awesome) and I always want the food to be better than it is. I love the space they have outdoors and indoors. In front terrace with green nature around, birds and shade to work comfortably outside. They have a terrace in the back, and great rooms where you can find your perfect spot to work. The coffee was good, it could be better. I only give 3 stars for the food. The menu has great selection but when it comes in paper plates and super small plastic forks is disappointing. The egg Benedict's I ordered were ok, not much flavor and the salmon was almost not present, and they charge extra for it. It's ok, but I won't eat here again. I'll just grab a drink, a friend to chat and enjoy the weather. The people working there looked tired and and bored already early in the morning. This review is based solely on a gluten-free Chewy Roll and caramel macchiato made with oatmilk that I had delivered by DoorDash. The caramel macchiato was, to my taste, perfect. It was a well constructed latte made with lightly frothed and fresh tasting oatmilk. There was just enough caramel to add a caramel flavor and a bit of sweetness. I could taste all of the elements of the drink--espresso, oatmilk and caramel--and they were well balanced. I chose this restaurant primarily to try the Chewy Roll. I am a gluten intolerant fan of baked goods and I enjoy exploring unique, house made GF pastries. I was impressed by the Chewy Roll. Wheat affords baked goods structure, texture, flavor, protein and other qualities that are difficult to replicate without wheat. There is no single alternative ingredient that can take the place of wheat, so bakers who create gluten-free breads are forever experimenting to develop recipes that taste good and have good structure and texture. The Chewy Roll is a non-sweet, round crusty roll that resembles a pistolet roll with an airy, chewy interior similar to a popover. Garbanzo flour adds protein and complexity of flavor, while black sesame seeds balance the garbanzo flour's metallic notes. The Chewy Roll was a delicious accompaniment to my coffee, both plain and with strawberry preserves. read more

Passing by this place for years, I'd been wanting to try it out for just as long. Finally I decided to give it a go today. Major major major let down. A big sad disappointment. If I could take my tip back, I would. I had trouble seeing the overhead chalkboard menu both with and without my glasses, so I was happy to see bright yellow handheld menus right next to the cash register. I picked one of them up and ordered the salmon plate for $14.99 and a small orange juice for $5.50. When the cashier rang it up it came to $27 and tax. I asked how $14.99 and $5.50 came to over $27. "You were looking at our old menu." "But you have the old menu iright here for people to look at!" "Sorry. Our 2022 prices are on the menu board," the cashier pointed to the chalkboard above his head. "I can't read that menu. That's why I picked up this one." "Sorry," he shrugged. 10 minutes later my food was ready. The skimpiest shreds of salmon strewn on the plate like clothes dropped on a bedroom floor, some sad looking wilted tomato slices and a few painfully old thin red onion slices. In addition to the toasted everything bagel there was one leaf of romaine lettuce for adornment, a dollop of cream cheese and a few capers rolling around on a paper plate. The salmon plate looked disinterestedly and sloppily thrown together by a 12 year old. About 10 minutes after finishing the plate I was heaving in the bathroom with burning, watering eyes. Great for scones and nice outdoor dining patio but wouldn't return for anything else. The scones were buttery and crumbly, yet crispy on the outside. We spent about $45 for a breakfast we could have made at home. I would have rather gone to Go Get 'Em Tiger, down the street, which is our normal breakfast spot the my toddler loves. -The coffee drinks (latte and cappuccino) were light on the coffee flavors. -You have to order eggs in 1 or 3, not 2, which was weird. -The avocado toast was regular store-bought bread with smashed avocado on top and a slice of tomato garnish. 4/10/2022 This place has very good seating and vibe for both indoor and outdoor. They did have a plug point extension if you plan to work in the outdoor seating. The same doesn't hold true for their beverages. We ordered a hot macha and cold macha with whole milk and easy on ice. The beverages were so watered down. I went back to ask if they could add more milk and less ice as it's too watered down and can taste better. The guy replied that's how the whole milk is and just removed some ice. Bricks & Scones is a coffee and tea cafe owned by Jinah Kim, located in the Larchmont area. They offer various breakfast items, salads, sandwiches, as well as teas and coffees. The hubs and I came here to kill some time before having dinner in the area. We ordered a cup of Hong Kong Milk tea latte and a cup of Chai Tea latte. While both came in a large, generously-sized mug with a bit of latte art, both were just a bit too watered down. The Hong Kong Milk tea latte could have been good, with its creamy milk flavor, served all piping hot. The Chai Tea latte hardly had any of the spices and was just super flat. The staff here are very friendly and are open to making recommendations. Just note that they do run out of certain beverages later at night (I wanted to try out their English Rose tea latte T___T) The cafe is interesting, as it's all brick, gives off some type of an old world charm, has a winding staircase upstairs, and little pockets of seating areas. The chairs/armchairs a super rundown, with either lack of cushioning or springs, and some legs are shaky where you feel as if the chair will break at any moment! The tables are not wiped down at all, with watermarks, mysterious liquids, and/or crumbs on the surfaces. There's also some patio seating in the front. This is a lovely cafe that is incredibly underrated! If you're looking to support a woman of color owned establishment, this is a great pick! I'd also suggest this cafe, if you're trying to find a middle ground between the West and East side. From a pricing perspective, their menu is reasonable and more affordable than other cafes in the area. The menu is extensive and has something for everyone. I really loved their rosemary scone and definitely recommend it, for those a fans of savory scones. Can't say enough good things about this spot! Was a 10/10 for sure. My friend and I came to do some work on a sunny Wednesday afternoon. We split the Fig and Rosemary scone and the Earl Grey scone, and each got Earl Grey lattes. The scones were delicious and a great texture; I'm especially obsessed with the Fig and Rosemary one! Came here to study on a Sunday at noon and it was super crowded but ii was able to find a small table However, the bigger tables all cleared up within an hour and there was lots of seating. This place is super cute and has a huge lovely chandelier. They also have an upstairs full of tables and chairs to study at as well. One drawback was that the internet was really slow and i had to use my hotspot at times. i got their chai latte and it was one of the best i've ever had! I also got the coffee crumb cake which was also amazing! People around me ordered food which came in huge portions and looked really good as well.
