My daughter and I came here to study, we bought our laptops, books, pencils and pens for homework and we were prepared to really hunker down and be productive. We bought coffee and pastries and kettles of tea and really just tried to mash out some homework get some studying done but, FAILED. That was not possible because the buzz of all the people around talking and chatting. Plus there was some kind of construction going on in... I guess the basement of the building? Maybe even in the parking lot but it was Like the sound of a jackhammer constantly going and there was just no peace and quiet so I could not effectively study. The coffee and pastries were like $6 and $7 a cup, however I did get a tea pot of steaming herbal tea and that little tea kettle actually gave me about 3 to 4 cups of tea, that I was able to enjoy because it was rainy that day and a little chilly and that was only $4 also they refilled the pot for me with steaming hot water so so I actually used my tea herbs a 2nd time so that is one way to stretch your dollars there because you do have to make a purchase to utilize the tables in study areas. So that was a good option if you're on a budget otherwise you know, it's an OK place to go with a few business pals in to have a small business meeting you know because there is chitter chatter going on around you so it's good for that. There's also an outside seating area but like I said the day we were there it was raining outside and it was very wet thus just was not a comfortable day to sit outside on the patio. Also there is lots of street parking available, we parked about a block away and fed the meter because it is meter parking otherwise there's not much parking available that is free of course so these are the reasons I gave this place a 3 stars. read more

Bricks & Scones is the perfect place to study or get some work done! Every time I've been here (which is quite a few times over the years), the cafe has always been filled with people reading books, doing work on their laptops, or having low key conversations with friends. There are plenty of outlets to share, and a good number of large communal tables or individual 2-3 person tables to choose from. During the summer, the upstairs tables can get a bit warm, but generally the cafe has good air flow. There are also tables outside on the patio which is a nice place to relax on a beautiful Southern California day. The scones here are delicious! Better than some scones I had in London on my recent trip. They have a variety of flavors, and often change their menu around so that you can try something new each time. The scones are so buttery and flaky, each bite is one to savor! There are limited parking spots in the back that are accessible by a very narrow driveway, or street parking which is not too difficult to find in this neighborhood. I love this place! Seating is a little hit or miss though which sucks since it's a bit of a drive from home. It's not that they don't have enough seats, it's that they are so busy! Ive gotten lucky the last two times I went and got a spot on a cozy couch thing upstairs. I've gotten their afternoon tea which comes with a teapot and two scones. I've had the fig and rosemary, green tea, and berry scones. The fig and rosemary is my favorite! Subjective: Was scoping out a good place to get some work done and my caffeine fix while waiting for the S.O. to get out of work nearby. I had bookmarked this place since, I dont knoe, as long as I can remember. And finally in 2017, I got to come to this place with high expectation. First things first, the landmark itself, is very pretty and kept very clean and well. Love the patio area in the front and I love the vibe it gives. Second, parking sucks. I ordered 2 HK Milk Teas and the girl at the register didnt get it and only gave me one. It started to go downhill from there. I clearly told her what I wanted and she obviously wasnt paying attention. The whole time I was ordering, she was only staring at the POS, trying to look for something and it annoyed me. She was very slow and did not look like she embodied professionalism at all. Her gesture, attitude and everything else was very light and it made me feel like she didnt care. We sat on the second floor and later I went down to use the restroom and I didnt know where it was. I wanted to ask the workers there but they were busy talking to a customer and I waited and waited. They saw me but didnt even bother to talk to me until I got annoyed and asked wheres the restroom and the guy answered. The girl from the earlier incident was also there but she saw me and just ignored me, just like that. Our drinks were not up to the standard. I honestly dont know what I was drinking. It tasted like nothing. My friend agreed. Even after she added syrup or sugar, it still has no flavor whatsoever. Her Mixed Berry scone was missing mixed berries and its taste and my Green Tea & White Chocolate scones had NO GREEN TEA flavor at all. It was indeed, GREEN with a couple white chocolate chips but white chocolate overpowered and I didnt even get a hint of Green Tea. Never again. This place is only meant for studying. Literally, everyone is studying and on their laptops. We could barely talk here because we felt like we were bothering the people who study. So will I come here again? Never! We came in on a rainy day and the place was packed to the brim, but we managed to find a spot on one of the large shared tables. I don't love coffee, but I love eating, so I'm glad the menu offers multiple choices for diners and studiers. We had a crossaint sandwich with bacon, egg, and cheese and the chicken curry sandwich. Both of these items were suprisingly delicious, so I it's okay that our order took a while to come out. The only downside to our meal was the side salad - pretty much a few leaves and 3 grape tomatoes from a Vons (or heaven forbid, Jons) ready pac. Overall, the ambience is 3rd floor library. Expect about the same amount of computers as an Apple store. Maybe it was the rain, but the wifi was pretty dial-up slow at times. Quick coffee break at Bricks & Scones during my visit to Los Angeles. I was really amazed how beautiful the decor was, especially the stairs and the chandelier. While there is a lot of seating from outside, first floor, and to the second floor, it was jamming pack by afternoon hours! We went for iced coffee and I had the Matcha White Chocolate Scone. Decent coffee, although not quite the best. Stick with the regular iced coffee, that is probably the best choice. Matcha White Chocolate Scone went great with the iced coffee. Got here around 8AM when it was empty and was able to claim a good spot with an outlet. However there are plenty of outlets around the space. The upstairs is great for solos (a lot of 2-seaters) and the downstairs is set up for larger group seating. Patio is great, but I chose to sit inside upstairs since I needed an outlet spot. It starts to pick up with people right before 10AM, and by the time I left around noon - it was relatively busy with people working both upstairs and downstairs... even outside. Got the drip coffee and a bagel egg sandwich. The drip coffee was pretty good. Sandwich - eggs were scrambled and were cold which was kinda sad. Especially since it was not busy when I arrived. Wish they would have made sure everything was warm when served. Although since this is a great working spot... I'd still give another dish a try. read more

Parking is alright during the weekend, mostly metered. The scones are fantastic compared to usual scones you get in any coffee shop which are way too dry and flakey. It's so light and refreshing and different from other teas I've tried. 2. Get their Blueberry Scone. It's $2.50 and bigger than the size of your fist. It's the BEST scone I've ever had! It has a beautiful golden crust, and it is super light, fluffy, and soft with big chunks of blueberries all over. When was the last time you had a scone described as fluffy and soft? Yea, I can't remember the last time either. My friend and I spent a good 6 hours here and got a lot of work done, and I even managed to squeeze in some leisure reading. This is great for a matcha green tea lover like myself. It's not too sweet, and I like the addition of the white chocolate. Lavender White Chocolate Scone (4 stars) is good too. The white chocolate balances and tames the lavender flavor so it's not overly floral. I like that the texture of the scones are biscuit-like with slight crunch on the outside and a soft center. If you want something that is not sweet and different from the average pastry, try the Chewy Sesame Roll (3.5 stars). Made with rice flour, it is a chewy and hallow roll and reminds me of the sesame balls that I used to eat as kid. They do serve it warm, upon request, which I recommended. I've tried the Iced Caramel Macchiato (3 stars) and the Iced Mocha (2 stars). Between the two, I preferred the creamy Iced Caramel Macchiato, which is more like a latte than a traditional macchiato. I've had better mochas, and this probably needed more chocolate and espresso flavor. I enjoy coming here on my own. It's nice to get away from the busy and overly crowded locations like Urth Caffe or Starbucks. The service (4 stars) is good with nice staff from the bussers to the baristas. read more
