This place has great seafood and is not overly expensive. Our waiter was great! Despite being very busy he kept checking in on us and refilling our drinks and was not hassled at all by our large party. If your looking for a cocktail where you order a spa day and she asks you if you want Tito's or kettle. Unknowingly I say ummmm Tito's... assuming it's the house tequila and then they charge you 15.50 for a cocktail. I'm sorry you weren't even nice to us. It should have been 12.00. Okay no worries I ordered your basic margarita. Nothing fancy. $19.00!!!! It's 99% ice and it came half full. We went to the bartender and said hey we ordered 3 and two are full and one is totally half way full. Can you add more mixer or something? He aggressively dumps the cup and makes a new one with such attitude, I was embarrassed. We spent $228. For just drinks and a dozen oysters. If they were at least nice and when we asked nicely can we please halve water which never came. It was like they were mad we were seated. I I'm not just sitting here drinking water and taking up space. I, just like you work really hard and I always try to at least be nice. It's my day off. I don't deserve to be treated unfairly because your in a bad mood. I would say the view is nice, but I wouldn't come back for the service being the way it was. I felt embarrassed and like took advantage. I can't tell if the food was good, they weren't nice since the beginning so we decided to eat somewhere else. Avoid server Todd H., unless you want to be ignored!! This is a long review, but worth reading if you want to avoid terrible service. My dad, my teen daughter, and I stopped for dinner at The Brigantine on Saturday, July 15th, 2023, on our way home from the San Diego Airport. We arrived at around 7:45 pm. We were greeted by a valet parking attendant who acted as though he couldn't be bothered to do his job. My dad described him as surly. We went into the restaurant and were greeted by a very friendly seating hostess who sat us right away, and was accommodating when we requested a different table than the one to which she first led us. Our server came right over and took our drink orders. His name was Todd and he was very friendly and chatty at first. We got our drinks, then ordered appetizers. The appetizers came out pretty quickly and everything was tasty. We were having a really nice time! Then things started to go progressively downhill. Our server Todd came to take our orders. I ordered the swordfish. Just as my daughter was about to place her order, the server mumbled, "Oh, just a second", and walked away. We all just looked at each other like, "What just happened??" After a minute or 2 he came back and said something about needing a different computer ordering gadget thing. He then took everyone's order, but was noticeably less friendly. When our dinners came, he hastily placed our plates down. Just as he was leaving (rushing off is more like it), I noticed there was no lemon wedge for my fish. I called out to ask for lemon, but he just hurried away. Maybe he didn't hear me, or maybe he ignored me, it was hard to tell. I ate my lukewarm/cool entree without lemon, because Todd completely disappeared after that. Like, GONE. He never checked on us, and we never saw him. I was honestly starting to wonder if his shift had ended and he had gone home. Literally about 20 minutes later, he showed up to take our plates. My dad asked for a dessert menu. He went and got one and literally tossed it on the table and walked away. Not even exaggerating, another 20 MINUTES went by before he came back. I could see him across the restaurant chatting with other servers, just standing around. He wasn't busy by that point, it was late. But he was too far away to catch his eye, and too distracted by socializing to care about doing his job. It was getting so late that we were worried about our 45 minute drive home to my dad's place in north SD County. We realized that we were not going to be able to have dessert, because by then we just didn't have time for it. So then Todd finally came over with our check, completely forgetting that he had brought us a dessert menu. He put the check down, and started to walk off again. As he walked away, he noticed the dessert menu sitting there, and then as an afterthought, hastily asked us if we wanted dessert. By then it was like no way, we just wanted to get the hell out of there. We were really upset. So my dad got out his credit card and Todd got out the computer pay thing and put it down. It gave you a choice to tip 18%, 20%, 22%, custom tip, or no tip. Todd stood there watching my dad to see which button he would push. It made my dad really uncomfortable. So Dad asked if we could have some privacy. Todd didn't seem to understand him, so I said, "Can you just give us a minute, please?" So he left. My dad tapped No Tip, which I totally agree with, signed his signature, and we got the hell out of there. By then it was 9:30 PM, and we still had a 45 minute drive ahead of us. The same surly, arrogant parking attendant gave us our keys, and we left. The Brigantine is a beautiful restaurant, and we've had good experiences there in the past. Most of the food is good. But if we go back, you can bet that we will specifically ask NOT to sit in Todd H's section. (I know his name is Todd H. because it was on the check when he finally brought it.) Two stars because the beginning of the evening was nice, and most of the food was good. But it's a shame how one server ruined an evening that started out so pleasantly. At first the server made us feel like we were that "inconvenient" table that was out of her section. My mom got a giftcard for a free appetizer from a San Diego giftshop and has been waiting to use it and dine with you for the longest time, it was our first time after many trips to San Diego. As soon as she asked she was told it was only good for calamari and Brussel sprouts. It was a shame we were not given the option to pay an up charge to get something we liked or wanted. We were able to walk from our condo which was less than 1/2 a mile up the little street from Brigantine. Parking is very limited here, so if you are within walking distance, I'd suggest walking. This restaurant looks out towards turn 3 of Del Mar race track. The way Del Mar is situated there's quite a bit of distance between this restaurant and the track so it's not like you can easily watch the races from here. But you can definitely see the track. This place has a fun vibe! Definitely a great place for groups as it is lively and a tad loud. The service was pretty good, but the food was just 'ok'. I started with the 1/2 size shrimp and crab cobb salad. ( It's nice to be able to order what is normally an entree salad as a starter. ) The lettuce was a bit limp... meaning it had lost it's crunch, so it was a bit lackluster. For my main, I ordered the Wok Charred Ahi which I could barely eat because it was way over seasoned and all I tasted was smoke and shoyu. While it appeared the fish was properly seared, the flavor was just unpalatable for me. The vegetables were also drenched in the shoyu sauce. I would not recommend this dish. read more

We live about 45 miles north of Del Mar and selected The Brigantine to take friends from New York who were staying at the Omni in Carlsbad to dinner. We were greeted warmly and efficiently by the hostess, enjoyed a glass of wine at the bar and were seated on time for our reservation at a table indoors that still had lovely views. Our waiter, Matt, was kind, informative and attentive. The food, a mixture of fish entrees and a chicken entree were all excellent. The four of us thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. read more

Great outside seating with Ocean view we ordered the crab/shrimp salad and it did not disappoint as it was packed with clumps of crab and plenty of shrimp the large can easily be for 2 people ... order of blackened salmon tacos which were just as good. Came in for some small plates for lunch and sat at the bar. While the restaurant is super cute with great views, the food we had was mediocre at best. The shrimp in the shrimp cocktail was extremely rubbery (tasted thawed) and the calamari fries were soggy. The Caesar salad lacked flavor and the dressing barely resembled a true caesar. Such a good time at the Brigantine! Pretty views and yummy food. No self parking on site - $6 valet. You can try finding parking on the hill I guess but it seemed like a waste of time, street was packed on the weekend Reservations with a view requested and I'm happy we got it. They have big clear windows where you can see part of the beach, a lake, and del mar fairgrounds. We were watching the hot air balloons take off My table ordered the the NY steak + mashed potatoes, fish and chips, roasted chicken + potatoes and capers, and mahi mahi + mashed potatoes. I personally enjoyed the steak. I ordered it medium and thought it could've used a little more pink but still enjoyed it. Great flavor and texture. All dishes was presented nicely. Service was friendly from our server. Very patient with my family and their dad jokes. Food came out timely. I've been to Brigantine many times over the years and have always happy with the quality of their foods and service. Today, I am completely disappointed. I called ahead of time and checked to see if they sell their cheesecake whole for a special occasion, instead of by slices. The hostess checked with the chef and confirmed that chef will make an exception this one time and quoted me the price. I made arrangement to pick up the cheesecake the next day at 1:00 to avoid the lunch crowd. When I showed up, I waited for 15 minutes for the cheesecake. I was annoyed that the cheesecake wasn't ready at the agreed upon time. Then I found out why. They brought out a cheesecake that looked like it was poured last minute because it was still in the springform pan! It was a half-assed job! I was surprised. The girl told me that I need to put it in the fridge for 2 hours before cutting, so the cheesecake can set. And btw, if I could return the springform pan some time, it would be great. I looked at the cheesecake and asked " are you sure this is the very berry grand manier cheesecake I ordered? I don't see any berries or even a hint of berry color." The girl assured me that the berries are inside the cheesecake. At this point, I had to return to work, so I paid and rushed out. Well, guess what? The cheesecake did not set after 2 hours in the fridge. It was for the boss' birthday and here I was, presenting a lame cheesecake soup. And what else? There was no berries inside, nor was there any berry flavor. You would have think that a very berry cheesecake would have a hint of berry. A coworker commented that she makes better cheesecake out of a box. I felt completely stupid and embarrassed. To think that I paid $54 plus tax and tip for this half-assed job. Being a San Diego Native i have heard their commercials but just never visited. I was given a couple of gift cards that were rattling around at home, and since I was going to be in the area, I figured we would give them a try. Just amazing and relaxing, and the trains rolled by every so often making for a picturesque afternoon. First I just want to give a shout out to our server Jennifer. She found out this was our first time dining there, so she went out of her way to ensure we understood the menu, and tried the items that the Brigantine was known for. We started with the Oysters, sorry cannot recall where they were from, which were plump, juicy, and just overall tasty, an order of the calamari, again plump and full of flavor. She also brought us a wonderful basket of bread. Since it was lunch we had the fish tacos, short rib tacos, and the cobb salad. All solid selections, full of flavor, excellent portioning and presentation. My only gripe, as other YELPers have noted was the clam chowder. I ordered the Clam Chowder and expected to be WOWed. It was presented well, but was lukewarm in temperature, lacked any clam flavor, and honestly I have had better out of some roadside diners. Definitely good, but definitely not all good. When it works, Brigantine is a charming, swanky anchor between Del Mar and Solana Beach. Some of their food is delightful, and well-prepared. But, the service behind the scenes and on the floor never found any rhythm. Alas, Brigantine feels like two restaurants struggling to be one complete place. Walking in just past the dinner rush, we were seated immediately. We received water ASAP, but no sign of a server. No greeting, no indication that we were on the radar. A solid ten+ minutes later, we were greeted by a friendly server who seemed unaware of our status. He was responsive, though. He deftly pivoted out of the awkwardness and made us very feel welcome, which we appreciated. Given our downtime, we had already determined our entire order and placed it with him. Starters included the clam chowder, which is fantastic. Creamy, clammy and just the way clam chowder should be. (They were kind enough to split the bowl, as our table wanted to all try it). The Shrimp Cocktail was fine, but really unexceptional. I wouldn't re-order that. The shrimp had not much snap to them, and the cocktail sauce tasted too much like weak ketchup with a schmear of horseradish. The accompanied rolls are good, served with whipped butter. Some time after our starters, our server Matt let us know that our entrees were in process and should be by soon. If only. There was an uncomfortable amount of time before the entrees appeared. Almost to the point where you wonder if you even still want them. By now, the restaurant was much less busy. At least 20 minutes later, we got our mains. I had ordered the black mussels, which is listed as a starter. To me, though, that can sometimes be size (and flavor) for me as a later-dinner entree. Temp-wise, they arrived lukewarm-to--cool. They also tasted bland, and not particularly good. I can't tell you what the broth tasted like, as I was so taken out by the mussels. Again, it took maybe a bit longer than one might hope for a follow up (other than then 'How's everything looking' upon plate drop). Yes, I sent it back, and no, by now I was no longer interested in anything more. The fish and chips were well-received and were enough to bring some home. The cod is covered nicely with the fried breading -- and not too greasy. The shrimp and crab fondue is a creative dish that appeals to those who are fans of creamy dishes. It's got rich flavor, it's got cute presetation in the mini-cast iron skillet. We were given a Mud Pie on the house, which our server had instantly offered after our awkward intro. It's delicious: chocolate frosty ice-cream and whipped cream sitting on a thin chocolate (and espresso?) graham cracker crust. I'm hopeful that this dinner experience was an anomaly at Brigantine. If there was only one hitch during our meal, I'd say that that's the case, for sure. But, because there really were several important times that ball got dropped, I sense there are bigger issues being worked out here. This place is physically very attractive and has a creative menu. At a minimum, Brigantine should be a 4 Star experience, but we didn't get that on our visit. Valet $6. Wednesday is half price wine bottles. read more

The reason I didn't give 5 stars is because a few of the steaks were full of fat and the dessert no-one liked as it had a strange texture. It was the cheesecake and brownie duo.
