Great for an Anniversary Brunch! Wonderful service, and the meal was worth every penny. From the made to order omlet area to the wonderful fresh oysters, baked clams, prawns, delightful Ceviche, artisan cheeses, savory baked goods, the most imaginitive hot line with all the basic bruch favorites, and a sweets area with not to be missed bacon topped chocolate eclairs!!! We called ahead for a reservation at 10 thinking we would be rushed to make a Sacramento flight at 1, but had plenty of time. Ask to sit by the windows, or overlooking the beautiful gardens. Definately will do this again!! Did I mention it was all you can eat ? Average out what it costs for a breakfast and lunch in Napa, and this is reasonable. read more

Had a group of five looking to dine well on a Friday night, every place in St. Helena was booked until 8:30, but Brix was open and accommodating. Great views of the winery and gardens in an intimate setting. The food was delicious, from wagyu skirt steak to short ribs to salmon. Wonderful service! I've eaten at Brix several times over the past 2 years and I have never been disappointed. The is always delicious and fresh and you cannot beat the setting. The garden and vineyard make it one of the most beautiful restaurants in the valley. Try to eat outside but if not, try for a table near the window. This place is right on the edge! The edge of great food, great service and with so-so attitude. We received numerous recommendations to visit this establishment prior to our trip and had high hopes, dare I say high expectations. Missed the mark by that much (fingers showing half-inch). After entering the place, we were greeted with a less than mediocre reception as if, "... you are here, big whup...". It was so noticeable we looked at each other confirming amongst ourselves that we all took showers that morning and did not stink. There was a wait but that was mitigated by some mixed drinks. Appetizers came and went and we all agreed they were good, solid efforts....great? No! We tried many and all were flavorful but they were missing that "Wow-factor". Next came the mains and we all shared to give it the ole college try with 95% confidence using Student's T-Test of statistical significance that we were sampling enough. Yet, all the mains missed being noteworthy by just a smidgen (technical term). We had a cab sav and a pinot that were both "good". To be fair, the outside back area (wine country walk-around) was very cool and we enjoyed it a lot. Competition for your dining dollar is super high in this area and there are some outstanding places that will blow your socks off with their food and wine. This is not one of those places. If you want to eat tasty food but have flies swarming around you and touching your food eat here. During the afternoon they keep the doors open and tons of flys come inside the dinning area. We had a reservation at 4:15pm and the temperature outside was 90 degrees. The doors were open causing hot air to come in and it made dinning unbearable. When our food came the flies attacked us and our food. Although the food was delicious, the experience with the flies touching my food was a disgusting turn off. When we mentioned it to the waiter, she explained the situation and apologized. She brought the bill and I assumed they would reduce it by 10% because she saw us swatting flies the whole time we ate but to my surprise there was no reduction. We asked for the manager and he came over and explained with a rude attitude that this is our restaurant and flies sometimes come in and sorry I can't reduce the bill although flies were touching your food. Am I crazy or is he crazy? Who wants to eat food that flies were touching. Long story short he did not reduce the bill and asked us how we want to pay. Very rude man. I'm going to call the health department on this restaurant for a random inspection on the weekend to assess the massive infestation of flies. I forgot to mention that our table was right by the kitchen so I'm sure flies were going into the kitchen area. So gross. What a jerk of a manager who did not care about his patrons dinning experience. read more

Two stars is purely from the great service and great view of the garden and hills. We however came here for dinner and the short ribs was a disappointment. I've cooked short ribs in the past and what I had last night at Brix was similar to my failed attempt to cook decent short ribs. Dry and flavorless. My boyfriend and I stopped here for my birthday dinner after visiting Beringer Winery. Once we got there we were seated and didn't like our table and asked to be seated elsewhere. They told us they had other reservations; completely understandable. They tables are placed so close that you can hear everything the table next to you is saying. The table behind us was having complications with their order and food. After having dinner we asked for dessert. Once our dessert came my boyfriends mood turned completely upside down. He had told the two hosts in the front that he had wanted something done for my birthday with candles for the dessert. Then we decided to head out, the two girls up front were laughing, giggling and talking to each other. My bf brought up how he had mentioned that he wanted to do something for my birthday. They responded to say they were busy, forgot to mention it, and said sorry while still smirking. We were there for over an hour, and still they couldn't find a minute to relay a message over... first off all we were there and could see how "swamped" they were, yet they had time to talk to one another. This has to be one of the few reviews that actually sadden me to write. I have dined at Brix over 5 times over the last couple of years, as it was one of my favorite restaurants in the area. I always had a good time and loved the food--but this last time was very mediocre. My boyfriend and I wanted to take some friends out to wine taste and show them around some of our favorite places, so we made reservations for Brix for Sunday April 29th. We arrive about 15 minutes early and are told we have to wait--even though there were plenty of open tables. We wait patiently for thirty minutes to be seated, but have to continue waiting for someone to take even our beverage order for another 20 minutes. Then, we ordered our food and can you guess how long it took for the food to arrive at our table...an 1 hour and 15 minutes. The wait was TOO long and I know it wasn't our servers fault, he was actually very accommodating and made us feel better. The food itself was amazing, like always. However, as many Yelpers have pointed out, Brix seems to have a very unpleasant manager. That same manager made us feel so uncomfortable to the point that two of the people in our party left the table. The manager was circling around us and making very uncomfortable staring-matches with us that almost felt like he was glaring at us. When we were obviously upset, he approached us and asked "Is everything ok here?" in the most bigotry-ridden voice in history. A few people have mentioned that maybe it could be race--but I sure hope not. Granted, we were a table of 6 with 5 of us being of Latin makeup--I can't help but wonder if your manager at Brix has a different view on what he wants his patrons to look like. I am embarrassed that I subjected my friends to this mistreatment and I have to re-think whether I will ever go here again myself. Brix, please do cultural awareness training with your staff, and find a better manager. This is completely unacceptable. read more

After going to Brix this Sunday evening I must say never again will I return, a group of friends and I had reservations at 6:30pm for a birthday dinner mind you we still waited to be seated 10/15 min after our reservation time. After getting seated and our orders taken we wait an hour and a half for our food to arrive!!!!! The server was super nice and always came back to check up on us and apologized for the food taking long, very professional of him. But what makes me not come back is the fact that whom seemed to be the manager in charge that day was eyeballing me and my friends since we stepped in that place. Every time he walked past us he stared us down and would just stand close by and watch us... My friends at that point felt very uncomfortable to which two just decided to leave and let me remind you one was the actual birthday girl. Not only did he eyeball us down the entire time but he at some point just stopped and said "is there a problem, everything okay here" what made him assume we had an issue ? Did we not fit your typical Napa visitors ? Anyways the food was great but with that type of attitude from a manager in charge I wouldn't want to come back.... Thanks! read more

The first time I visited Brix was over 10 years ago when I was a college student. Even though it was obvious that my girl friend and I were students for a girls night out, we were treated like royalty and were waited on with attentiveness and kindness and generosity (drinks were on the house). A year or so later, while planning a dinner event, I stopped by Brix to pick up some menus for the table decor (they gave the menus to me), I accidentally locked my keys in the car...and it was raining. This was before cell phones, so they generously called AAA for me and gave me hot tea while I waited (on the house). The topper was that they served the hot tea with honey and lemon. Usually I have to ask for those. I moved away shortly after and hadn't been back until last weekend. I took another girl friend for a girls weekend to the Napa Valley and took her to my favorite places. Brix was one of them. A lot of changes had been made, but ones that complimented the restaurant, and I was so pleased to find out that they haven't changed in their service. I am vegetarian, and my friend doesn't drink wine. The menu does not have vegetarian entree options, nor is it clear what the non-alcoholic beverage options are. However, I have learned to ask. The waiter was not thrown by our questions and neither was the chef. The chef created a magnificent vegetarian entree option by blending some of the side dishes together and taking some parts of other dishes and arranging them beautifully on a wooden board for an exquisite presentation. The flavor did not disappoint. Because of my unusual entree accommodation, I deferred my wine selection to the discretion of the waiter. At first taste, the wine was unremarkable. However, when drunk with the entree, it was spectacular! My friend got the lamb special, which she said was the most amazing lamb she has ever eaten. The waiter also recommended a sparkling wine-flavored non-alcoholic beverage that was so delicious that I almost regretted getting the wine. I ordered the creme brulee for dessert and savored every morsel. It was smooth and creamy and the top was perfectly caramelized to a golden color...no burning anywhere. Yes, the prices are a bit high, but they aren't unreasonable. For the quality of service, quality of food and the quality of the ambiance, I am more than willing to pay their prices, and I am so pleased that 10 years later my experiences with this restaurant continue to be so wonderful. My fiance and another couple ate hear over the 4th of July weekend. I have to say, the food was really bad. For starters, two people ordered the steak. We had to send it back because it was charred, cold and leather-ish. It was like beef jerky basically. The mac and cheese was stiff and tasted like it was made hours before. I had the halibut, because, well, how can you go wrong, right? WRONG! My halibut was really overcooked and dry. Also, I am not sure what they did to it, but it gave me really bad heartburn and made my stomach hurt pretty bad. I'm unsure how you mess up halibut. The location was really nice- I'll give them that. Maybe this is a good place to have drinks. The food at I-Hop is about one million times better. My guess is that if you are from a state with really bad food, or from the UK, you might like it. read more

Saw another reviewer in July having duck croquettes, wish it was there but not in October. The " Sunday Brunch " experience: The amazing yummy ones were: The orange segments were fabulously sweet, think think they were organic. Got some every time I got up, so delicious. The flourless chocolate cupcakes, the frosting was decadent and to die for! The quiche, mmmmmmmmm, what is in them? I like quiche, but I love quiche at Brix! Homemade sun dried tomatoes plus this heavenly kind of yummy for tummy cheese, need the recipe for this one! The waitress was funny, attentive, caring and perfect! The other staff the same. They had only 2 organic herbal tea choices, chamomille and mint. Very good brand, will hunt for the mint one at the store. The light colored, I think it was mortadella, OMG! so tender, so thin, so freaking good! Think I emptied the whole plate except one. People were aiming for the red colored one, little do they know! Inside tip: go for the pink! Carrot cake cupcakes, wish I was gourging on them know,- the triffle: the blackberries, blueberries and strawberries in that homemade whip cream yum! Great coffee. Truffled deviled eggs very good, ate four. The okay but not addictive list: oysters, raw, do not like 'raw' oysters, plus the so called cocktail sauce had too much horseradish in them. I asked for regular cocktail sauce but they had none. The shrimp, pre-frozen, I can tell by the texture. The corn beef hash, too much beef, needs some potatoes to mellow them out. Smoked salmon kind of fishy. Hubby liked lemon bars and brownies, both a tad sweet for me. Eggs benedict had a different kind of sauce, that was not hollandaise, Overall: Yes the price is a tad up there, but I'd go on a special occasion in a heartbeat. I say: KEEP ON DRIVING. There are FAR BETTER places in this part of the country to get a better meal. This is the second visit that I've been very disappointed in the food (and the service). So, I won't be going back here. Every single person I dined with said the same thing: rather than being torn over what to get on the menu ... it was difficult to decide (because NOTHING sounded good). They all defaulted to their favorites (one had duck, the other pork and another pasta). No one finished their dinners and everyone was sorely disappointed. It's really too bad ... as it's a great location and beautiful setting. I especially like sitting on the patio out back and enjoying a stroll through the kitchen garden prior to ordering to see what's in season. This spot has a LOT of POTENTIAL if they could just get a decent manager and chef. read more

I've been coming to Brix for a long time with my late husband. Today I went in for a quick brunch, I ate the Honey Sesame Glazed Pork Sandwich and it was absolutely amazing per usual. My one star however, is for the horrible service I received from a newer waitress named Ayla. Her poor attitude showed throughout our time here and it was almost like I was a burden to be helped. She seemed to also forget to check on the table once my meal was brought to me. I absolutely love the food however, I would not return if she was my waitress and I would suggest better training. Out door patio and grounds are beautiful. Food was okay. Service was not good. It took a very long time to get out main course. Gaps between beverage pours (not just wine) were extremely long. It was our anniversary but no one bothered. Our waiter addressed the table next to us first after seating them 10 min after us. We are locals and won't be back. Ate here with my wife and some friends a while back. No one was impressed with thier food it was just mediocre at best. I ordered duck confit and it was a little dry once more it came with a bernaise sauce and the sauce was broken ... What resaurant sends out a broken sauce it's just oily and to runny. What a lovely, quintessentially "Napa Valley" restaurant. The view from Hwy 29 is unassuming, but the interior and the patio/backyard are spectacular. I came here a few months ago with a couple of friends on our way to pick up some wine. We ate outside by the garden for lunch. It was absolutely beautiful outside. We ordered the stone fruit salad, panzanella salad, a flatbread pizza, truffle fries & a few other sides. Everything was delicious and service was excellent. I can't wait to go back with my hubby. This place is a true wine country experience right on hwy 29. It is sad that the fires have consumed so much, but as soon as the fires are out, we must all go and support these local businesses so they can start recovering. read more

I attended a wedding at Brix over the weekend, where we were served Caesar salad and choice of beef filet or salmon. Everyone at my table had varying comments about how their meat or fish was cooked, so consistency seemed to be an issue. I'm sure food quality suffers to some extent when it's made in larger quantities, so it's a little difficult to judge the actual quality of the food. Despite Brix being one of the most perfect settings for a wedding or any special occasion (if money is no object, if you're a trust fund baby, or if you've just won the lottery), I'm not sure that it necessarily stands out from any other comparable Napa Valley restaurant. The servers, who I'm sure were MF-ing some of the demanding bitchy bridesmaids behind their backs, handled themselves with decorum, in addition to facing the challenges of serving a group of 100+. The timing of the evening, from the passing of the hor d'oeuvres to seating and serving everyone, etc. was also very well executed. Despite everyone freezing their cojones off (even with heat lamps and dancing to hideous 70s and 80s rock music that was popular before the bride and groom were even born), I would recommend Brix for a wedding or special occasion and perhaps lunch on their patio overlooking the garden. As for dinner, I would probably be more inclined to try another Napa Valley restaurant that I haven't been to before coming back here so soon. read more

We have to imagine that we were bumped by a big party or that someone who they think is more important needs our table. They did not offer another time or evening or compensation. I have eaten at Brix several times but my last visit earned one star and made me decide I will not return. Most of my earlier visits would have averaged three to four stars because this place had flashes of excellence. Generally my experiences here were positive with occasional hiccups but my last visit made me realize that this is a business that I want no part of. They served me a meal that was made with a steak that was OBVIOUSLY spoiled. It looked bad and smelled bad. They offered to replace it but had no comment on how something so rotten could have gotten past the server, the line cook and the chef. They only offered a "sorry" when i complained at length. They added further insult by lying to me about their steaks always being freshly butchered. "Butchered" is right in more than one sense. This callous disregard makes me question their attitude toward all of their guests and their complete disdain for the quality of their product. Like many of the restaurants in Napa Valley, Brix knows that most of their customers are not local and not likely to return soon. The menu seldom changes and the staff become accustomed to a regular routine of people they don't know and probably will not see again. At Brix this has apparently evolved into an attitude where they just don't care. I don't write many reviews but Brix rates this one because of their toxic attitude and spoiled food. read more

That was a fantastic meal. The place is gorgeous. You know you are in California. They had their own vegetable and herb garden. I could see the kitchen staff go out on pick ingredients from the garden, so cool. Since I consider myself a Phoenician, the weather for me was perfect, even though I heard people complain it was hot. Let's agree it was like a typical April day in PHX. We decided to dine outside since it was comfortable and the view of all the greenery was so nice. We started with the cheese plate to share, it came with some nuts, jams and bread. The Humboldt Fog was so creamy and delicious. I decided to have two small meals, since I was having dessert. I requested the ricotta gnocchi and the asparagus salad. The gnocchi were perfectly smooth and light, the peas were so sweet and the pancetta was divine. I wish I had more of that dish. The asparagus salad was to die for, you could taste the freshness of the ingredients. For dessert, I had their version of the carrot cake. It was like a deconstructed version of it. Very good indeed, although not my favorite. I can still taste that fabulous meal, what a treat! read more

Ordered the cooked oysters and they were good (I'm a big raw oyster fan which they didn't have so that's why it's 4 stars) and the prime rib. The prime rib was delicious. It came with horseradish creme fraiche which was more buttery than I would have liked. It didn't have that kick that horseradish is supposed to give. My hubby ordered the chicken carbonara and he liked it but we ended up having it for lunch the next day since he ate my prime rib. Overall I had a good experience. read more

Sunday Brunch at Brix is a slice of culinary heaven on earth. Nestled in the vineyard-laced hillsides of St. Helena and warmed by a rare winter sun, dining at Brix feels like luxuriating in the heart of Provence. First, the chacuterie and fromage - creamy, delectable, rich. Onwards to the entrees, the corned-beef croquettes were crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside, and perfectly seasoned. The persimmon and frisee salad was surprising and refreshing. Poached egg croustada was savory and crisp. The seafood bar delivered raw oysters, smoked salmon, and chilled jumbo prawns. As for desserts - they easily rival those at Bouchon Bakery - gasp! - and this, at a buffet! Try their version of the Oreo, indulgent but thankfully bite-sized.The chef is a genius for Brix's small-batch take on buffet dining, which keeps all of its offerings fresh, fresh, fresh. No stainless-steel chafing pans here! Looking out into the gardens gives you a sense of the care they take in growing and cooking with local, seasonal ingredients. My wife and I have eaten at this restaurant 3 previous times and have always found the food and service to be quite good. However, a lunch there on 3/21/15 was the worst dining experience we have had in many years and we eat out a fair amount. Since there was a wait for patio dining, we opted to eat in the dining room which was less than half full. We got our table immediately...and then waited and waited and waited. After 20 minutes, a serving assistant finally came over to take our drink order and to tell us that our waiter would be right with us. 15 minutes later, the waiter finally arrived, thanked us for our "patience" and took our order. After another 15 minutes, the food arrived. I ordered the leg of lamb sandwich and it was tasty. My wife ordered the French dip sandwich which had so much fat and gristle that it was inedible. We flagged down our waiter, told him the problem and sent it back. He apologized, said he would alert the kitchen and promised a new sandwich quickly. A manager came over, also apologized and said she would expedite the order. We were discussing how incredulous we were that they even let it out of the kitchen (it was visibly chock full of fat and gristle) when another manager overheard us and came over. We repeated our concern that an order looking like that would even be served. His response was that he hadn't seen it and that, after all, it WAS prime rib which tends to be "well-marbled," as if we were ignorant of that fact. We responded that it wasn't well-marbled, it was mostly fat and gristle; his response was to walk away before we even finished talking. Her replacement finally came after another 10 minutes and was fine this time. I was already done with my meal. Both of us couldn't wait to be finished and get out of there. Can't really blame the service on the waiter, as they were clearly understaffed and he was running back and forth serving both the dining room and the patio. The responsibility for this dismal meal's lousy service and poor food quality belongs squarely on the shoulders of management. Shame on them for resting on their past laurels and taking their customers for granted. No excuse, especially in the highly competitive Napa Valley. Looks like they lost our repeat business. read more
