I moved here 5 years ago from the beach area. I've been spoiled with the variety of cafes and diners. I walked into the Broadway Cafe one morning, looking for steaks and eggs. I met the owner Nancy. She told me straight out, they don't do that and suggested a competitor. I was impressed. I ordered something else and was even more impressed. The breakfast was great and Nancy was super friendly. I came back next weekend with the wife and kids. We had the bacon avo cheeseburger, fish and chips, chicken strip and fries, and zucchini strips with the ranch dressing. Nothing disappointed. This review is long overdue. I have been going to broadway cafe for the past 5 or so years. It's definitely my favorite post snowboarding meal. I have tried a few things like their classic cheeseburger and their kahlua pulled pork sandwich. But the item I always go back to is the meat loaf sandwich. It just hits right every time. On my most recent visit I got a burrito bowl with no cheese and egg (for my girlfriend who is vegan) add avocado and a cheese and egg bagel for myself also add avocado. The food was all insane. They accidentally forgot the avocado on my girlfriends order and to rectify actually just gave me a full avocado to use!! Top tier customer service right there, if you ask me. And I got try there salsa for the first time, which is insanely good. I would get breakfast again solely for the salsa. Overall, broadway has been a staple part of my visits to big bear over the past years and the breakfast really drilled in how great this place is. My experience while visiting big bear was that The food and the service was great. Please try there pancakes, chili, as well as the tater tots. The restaurant was clean and smelled good. All of the staff was polite and had great conversation. I will definitely be visiting them again when I come back to visit Big bear lake. read more

Overall, we would come here again for the food but definitely could care less for the people. The lady working at the front desk with a sequins cheetah mask really needs to get a lesson in customer service. She could've been a lot more friendly and definitely does not understand the concept of repeat business. In addition, we came during the height of the pandemic and that same lady along with another elderly lady we're not making masks while cooking the food. When I asked them to wear masks because my parents are elderly, they remarked that by state law, they did not have to. I have a hard time believing this. There was a younger girl working who said that she always wears her mask and she was definitely doing that. I appreciated her very much. They need a better set up. I understand that with Covid they cannot hand out menus that are then used by another customer but when you go to the front to order, you don't have a menu to reference so if you have a large order, it's really difficult. The chili was good but not award winning IMO. Probably could've gone without so much cheese on top. Made it a little hard to eat since it clumped up from there being so much. the longgggggest wait ever for a takeout order! i called broadway cafe ahead of time thinking we would be able to bypass the long line out the door. upon arrival we realized there was only one line + it didn't matter if you ordered ahead of time or at the counter. it took about 25 minutes to get our food. i understand bc of covid, it's been difficult to accommodate safety measures. besides the longggggest wait ever, the food was decent. your typical no frills cafe. i got the deep fried zucchini. the ranch was delicious. it makes my mouth water thinking about it. i also felt like eating light + was pleasantly satisfied with my chicken garden salad. i wish they offered more than just iceberg lettuce, but i gobble that up easily nonetheless. read more

The burgers were kind of like fast food burgers with a little more bulk, which to me was frustrating because it took roughly 30 minutes to get our food after ordering. Thus, I would say my experience at this place was fast food quality with a 5 star wait. We sat at a table with a bunch of dirty dishes on it. No one came to bus the table. In fact, they left all the crap on the table when they gave us our food. I was really bothered by that. See the photo. A plus was that they had a dog bowl they let us borrow and I took it to my truck so my dogs could have some water then returned it when we were done with it. This was really nice of them. I understand we are all doing our best to cope with a post COVID lifestyle. However, after waiting more than 40 min for a tuna melt, we pick up one of the fried zucchini sticks to see a long grey hair fried into it. It gives the vibe that one person had a dream to open a diner and the rest of the family was forced into being the employees and no one knows what they are doing. We came across this restaurant at the last minute. The place we were supposed to eat at, said that they are only serving food to go and not for dine in. Which was odd because it was 2:00pm. We pasted by this little cafe before heading to our cabin and noted it down to try before we left. It was lower on our list since this was our first time in the area and wanted to try a few other places. We decided to stop by since another place was closed and I am so glad we did. I ordered a cheeseburger and was blown away! They even made my daughter mickey mouse shaped pancakes. The little cafe was so down to earth and the customer service was amazing.
