Very good corned beef hash. The looks of the Broadway Diner are very fun, a throwback to before my time anyway. Everything on the menu sounded very yummy. While visiting the Baraboo area, another restaurant owner suggested we try the Diner for breakfast. Amazing omelets, friendly efficient service in a real diner from the past. Vonnie and the crew at Broadway Diner are amazing!! They catered a birthday party at the American Legion for about 90 people and everything was delicious. They arrived when they said they would with everything prepared including a map layout of how all the food was to be set up making sure there was plenty of room. We had no idea how many people would be coming and they helped us figure out how much of everything to order and what items were popular. They have a great menu with lots of variety but I'll share what we ordered for light afternoon nibbles. Their deviled eggs were a hit (we ran out! Buy more) and people also loved the BBQ franks, potato cakes, bacon- wrapped dates filled with goat cheese (OMG!), meatballs with mushroom sauce, fruit tray, pin wheels (turkey and ham) and cheeses and sausage. And super good fresh baked cookies. We served water and punch and could have used a little more of both. What we ordered was a fraction of their menu options. This place was so cute from the decor but that is all they have going for it. The staff was surly and certainly not fitting with a diner. The food was so plain! I had the classic burger that had absolutely no taste. Kids had French toast and it too was really bland. So not worth it... Definitely skip it. read more

I am in the process of moving to Baraboo area, and have made several trips up there in the past couple of months for job-related stuff and house hunting. Happened to see the Broadway Diner while driving through town, and stopped because of all the cute. The inside of the diner is beautiful, pristinely preserved kitsch. I think I was expecting only basic standard diner food (burgers, fries, shakes, etc.), but found that the menu was a lot more inventive. The first time I was in, I ordered the meatloaf marsala, which was delicious. The second time, I ordered a portobello benedict, which was even better. The staff was incredibly friendly, attentive and helpful. The only downside I see about Broadway Diner is that I wish they were open longer hours, and that I wish they served alcohol because I bet they could put together a bad-ass bloody mary. Love the coffee and the veggie omelette! But hands down, their pancakes are even better than mine! You should definitely try this place out. Debated between 4 and 5 stars but every restaurant does what they do so I gave it a 5 I will explain in the review. Small diner with limited seating. They do have a few outdoor tables also. We arrived for breakfast and sat at the counter as there we no other seats. Service was quick and efficient. Waitress was always there for refills on water and pop. We sat directly behind the grill. This was the best part of the meal and the best seats in the diner. I watched the three kids running the cooking area and was amazed. At times I don't think you could squeeze another piece of bacon on the grill it was so packed. Yet the kid running it did an outstanding job with it. Daughter and I had eggs, hash browns and bacon. Thick cut bacon apple smoked. Very good, some of the best I have had. Son had the same with the addition of pancakes. Big fluffy stack and soaked up a ton of syrup. Wife had biscuits and gravy. All meals were great. Food was freshly prepared, served hot and quickly. The only knock I could give was when you get to see how they cook. Bacon is precooked in back kitchen and tossed on the griddle to reheat per order. Hash browns are only cooked on one side, so one side isn't browned, just steamed. and the potato pancakes are not really cooked enough on the second side causing them to taste a little pasty. Wonder why you gain weight when eating out. They don't cook like you do at home. They are trying to get it to you quickly. What speeds up the browning process, OIL. Lots of oil. As we were sitting there I was amazed at the amount of oil there were squirting on everything with oil in a squeeze bottle. In the time we were sitting there the cook emptied three bottles of them. They also had red ones filled with water to steam food to help assist melt cheese and such. Every restaurant does it but it is shocking to see it upfront. While I have worked my way thru a chunk of the Diner's menu, I do try to order from the daily specials when possible. The specials cannot be beat. Tried out the breakfast quesadilla on Tuesday and was very pleased. Even on a Tuesday at 1030am the place was busy. Good food. Friendly staff. Fun environment. Entertaining to watch the line cooks do their thing. Amazing actually. Talented group of cooks. In a small space the cooks and waitstaff work in synch. I don't know how they do it! Homemade good eats! Huge burger on a great bun. Employees are not just friendly but happy to be there as was I. Best coleslaw ever. Interesting decor & great oldies playing. Homemade pies to die for. I can't wait to go back & try breakfast. My husband said his Reuben taste like fresh sliced corn beef. Good prices for a great meal. Happy to pay for quality.
